Character Creation Guide
:: Guidelines & Rules
tabtabtab. . .for one and all!

:: Note: new members have three weeks in which to create a character. You can have a maximum of two characters.
:: Getting Started: here, enjoy some useful links: Elder Scrolls Races, Birth Signs, and a List of Classes. You may feel free to create your own class, if you wish.
:: Non-standard Races: with regards to vampires and werewolves, no character may start out as a vampire or werewolf. After your character has completed five quests you may request they be infected and if approved, the event will likely take place in active roleplay.
:: Starting Skills: your character will begin play with seven skills (here is the listing). To determine the proficiency of your skills, use these simple guidelines:
tabtab▫ The maximum rank for a starting character's skills is Journeyman. No Expert or Master skills are permitted at creation.
tabtab▫ Regarding non-magic skills: for every Journeyman skill selected, you must balance it with a Novice skill. The rest may be Apprentice level.
tabtabAlchemy counts as a non-magic skill.
tabtab▫ Regarding magic skills: characters may start with as many magic skills as desired, but can only have one Journeyman-level school:
tabtabthe rest must be Novice, unless increased to Apprentice due to a racial bonus skill (see below).
tabtab▫ Your skills may advance as your character completes quests. See the Character Advancement Guide!
:: Racial Skill Bonus: all races have two or three skills they provide a +10 bonus to (major bonuses).
tabtabDepending on your race, you can apply one of these major bonuses to increase a skill by one level.
tabtab▫ You must already have the skill in order to improve it, and you are still limited to the Journeyman maximum.
tabtab▫ You can only choose one racial bonus skill, and it must be a major/+10 bonus-providing skill.
tabtab▫ This skill bonus does not count towards Journeyman/Novice balance except in the case of magic schools--
tabtabcharacters may only have 1 Journeyman magic school at creation no matter what. A Novice magic skill can still be increased.
tabtab▫ You can't use the bonus to pick up an eighth skill.
:: Faction Options: your character may belong to as many as three factions, not including the Arena. It

:: Faction Ranks: your character may begin in the first or second rank of each faction. Your character will advance in rank as they complete 'Assignments' for that faction. Check the Faction Promotion Guide for further guidance in rank advancement. Consult the list below for clarification of what ranks are available for all starting characters:
tabtab▫ Fighter's Guild: Associate, Apprentice
tabtab▫ Mage's Guild: Associate, Apprentice
tabtab▫ Thieve's Guild: Pickpocket, Footpad
tabtab▫ Dark Brotherhood: Murderer, Slayer
tabtab▫ Arena: Pit Dog, Brawler
tabtab▫ Unaffiliated: Sight-Seeker, Wanderer
tabtab▫ Custom: First two ranks
:: Starting Equipment: all newcomers are restricted to Tier 1 equipment. Tier 1 equates to levels 1-5 and contains fur, iron, leather and steel as common item materials, while magical items are of petty strength at best. Your gear may include a couple of weapons, a suit of armour, a few changes of clothes, a couple healing, antidote, or magicka potions and no magic items. All characters may have 100 gold pieces starting out--hold onto that for when the store opens! Your character will gain access to higher tiers of goods as they achieve rank--the Tier Access Guide has further guidance.
:: Faction-specific Gear: items such as Mage's Staves or the Brotherhood Blade of Woe are forthcoming!
:: Lastly, please feel free to use the character's already created in the character thread as a reference in creating your own!
