FAQ's
Q: I have a specific question in regards to Elder Scrolls lore and trivia, where can I find the answer?
A: Many Elder Scrolls questions can be answered by visiting this free online website: http://www.uesp.net/
Q: I just joined: does it matter how long I take to create a character to roleplay with?
A: You have three weeks from your acceptance date in which to create a character. Failure to do so may result in removal from the Guild.
Q: How many characters can I have?
A: You may have up to two different characters.
Q: If I have two characters, can they both be in the same roleplay?
A: No.
Q: Can my character be a Vampire or Werewolf?
A. No one can create a character as a vampire or werewolf. However, a member may have the opportunity for their character to become one if they have completed at least three quests and are in good standing with the guild. If you have completed a minimum of three quests and are interested in having your character become a hybrid you may send a request to the captain. If approved, the actual opportunity will likely take place in roleplay.
Q: I see that unlike the game, my character can only have seven skills. Why is this and is there any way around it?
A: See the Character Advancement Guide for answers to this question.
Q: Can my character have an enchanted item or weapon?
A: Not to start out with. During special 'events' or quests, characters may receive one as a quest reward, and in the future may be given an option to enchant an item. A system for enchanting needs to be worked on by crew.
Q: How does the reward system work?
A: Please check the rewards page here.
Q: What level can we have our characters start off at?
A: The Character Creation Guide has all the details one needs for making a new character. Characters begin between levels 1 to 5, and are limited to Tier 1 equipment. For an explanation about Tiers, see the Tier Access Guide.
Q: What level can we start off at in guilds? (Dark brotherhood, etc)
A: This query is answered in the Character Creation Guide--check "Faction Ranks."
Q: Can just anyone set up a quest?
A: Yes. Please check the 'how to set up a quest' thread.
Q: If I set up a quest, does it matter how many people join, and can I create private invite only quests?
A: For most quests we recommend no more then five roleplayers. It is fine to create your own private quest between you and just one other character, or other characters. For more information on Quests (group RP) and Duets (1x1), see the Faction Promotion Guide and the Character Advancement Guide.
Q: I'm interested in helping out and taking on a leadership role, (aka crew) how do I go about that?
A: Well in most cases you should have been an active part of the guild for a decent amount of time and have a good record with the guild. If you can attest to both of those qualities then you may fill out the crew application and pm it to the Captain and VC's via personal message. They will discuss it and come to a timely decision. Please note - not everyone can become crew so sometimes the decision may be based alone on whether there is a need at that time.
Q: I'm having problems with a specific person in the guild (member or crew); what should I do?
A: Please bring it to the attention of leadership via a personal message and be detailed. DO NOT, if at all possible, create drama and have a scene in the forums. Leadership will resolve the issue one way or another.
Q: I have unexpectedly had personal issues come up that are going to interfere with my time on gaia and with the guild. I don't want to be kicked out for inactivity, what should I do? And what if i'm part of a roleplay?
A: Set up a leave request in the leave request thread and do your best to specify how long you will be gone. Activity is very important, so if you specify you will be gone for say a month, and several months go by without you returning, you will likely be removed from the guild and have the opportunity to later reapply. If you are part of a roleplay and will be gone for more then two weeks or so you may need to remove your character from the roleplay. It will depend on the speed at which the roleplay is progressing.
Q: How does the leadership role work in this guild?
A. We have a captain who is advised by several vice captains. They in turn listen to the ideas and thoughts of the crew. It is a sort of democracy if you will.
Q: Who founded the gulid and how long has it been around?
A: xxColdHandsxx founded the guild in 2009. He is no longer in an active leadership role.
Q: What is the guild's main emphasis?
A: This guild is mainly a roleplaying guild for Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and then a community for Elder Scrolls lovers.
Q: Can I invite some of my friends to join?
A: Yes, please do! We are always welcoming new members and the more the merrier! That being said the only requirement is to fill out the application posted on the home page as this guild has a certain literacy expectancy.
Q: When it comes to RP, do all RPs need to be quests with a purpose, or are we allowed to have "general RP" threads, such as a tavern or forest, for characters to meet/interact in?
A: Anyone can create general rp threads.
Q:Is there a limit to how many rp's/quests I can be a part of?
A: At this time no, but please be careful not to take on more then you can actively handle.
Q: Can my character have a home?
A: At this time no, characters are assumed to live at one of their guilds/factions.
Q: My character is mainly a magic user, I don't want to use too many spells at a time but its sometimes difficult to keep track of how much mana my character is using. Are there any tips that can help me refrain from misusing mana and magicka?
A: A very good question. Willpower is what directly effects mana regeneration. With willpower at 50 in real time it would take 57 seconds to fully regenerate one's mana pool. At 100 Willpower it would take 36 seconds and at 0 Willpower it would take 133 seconds. That should give you a basic idea of how long it takes for your character to regenerate their mana usage. Please visit this webpage for a better understanding.
Q: Is it ever possible to make changes to my character?
A: If your character has not yet been in any quests or events then the answer is yes, as much as you would like. HOWEVER if your character has done quests or is involved in any then the answer is ONCE. Every character can have ONE change made to the profile ONCE. PM a VC your change and if you have any questions on this.
Q: Can my character ever take something from another character and keep it?
A: Under no circumstances can anyone take any gear, weapons, accessories ect. from another character being roleplayed. That being stated, giving an item away is acceptable.
Q: I'm a mage at the Arcane University. Can I create custom spells using the enchanting alter?
A: At this time no; in the future there will be a system similar to enchanting that will be created and used for a small fee. For now stick to the spells listed on the UESP Oblivion wiki.
Q: In TES: Oblivion one is only allowed to wear up to two rings at a time in gameplay, does this crossover to the Scars guild as well?
A: No. Unless your character had an accident and lost a digit he/she can wear up to ten rings, one for each finger and thumb.
Q: My character is a mage and I would like he/she to have a staff, what are my options?
Mages may begin with a Mage's Staff. The staff has the following requirements:
- It can only cast one spell from a single spell school. You do not have to have that spell school.
- Only spells of Novice, Apprentice and Journeyman level are allowed to be selected. DLC spells cannot be selected.
A Novice Spell Staff will have 20 charges (1 charge per use of the spell).
An Apprentice Spell Staff will have 15 charges (1 charge per use of the spell).
A Journeyman Spell Staff will have 10 charges (1 charge per use of the spell).
Q: Does my character get faction gear for joining his/her guild?
A: Yes, however specs and details are being worked on by crew so although your character can for example currently where Dark Brotherhood robes, do not list an specs for the robes.
Q: Can we use DLC spells, (tomes) ?
A: Yes and No. Tomes are awarded in special events or quests, and cannot be used until a character has earned one.
Q: If I choose Mercantile as a skill for my character, does it have any benefit in roleplay?
A: Yes. If your character has mercantile selected as a skill, they start out with a 10% discount on store purchases. When your character moves up to tier two that will jump to a 20% discount and at tier three, 30%.
