meaning and origin : Fortunate, or of good luck, Faust's first name is Latin, a language Kali isn't exactly studying, but she encounters often in her magical studies. She chose it because it sounded cool. His middle name, however, comes from her great, great grandfather. Or is it her great grandfather? She's not sure. He's just really old.

Surprisingly, he attached himself to Kali, coming forth from his vial as soon as he came into contact with her.
As he grew, he went through a phase of serious biting, which came to be known to Zak and Nigel as a regular thing, for Munsters. They called it Gnashing; however, knowing what it was didn't make it any better. The little munster chewed through everything; and, inevitably, sank his teeth into a person. This came from his attachment to his mother. When she wasn't paying attention to him, he became rather upset, and bit the man she was talking to in order to get her attention.
This didn't seem to deter the man, who he came to know as Lance, which didn't please Faust in the slightest.
What also didn't please him was the method his mother chose to punish him for his behaviour. She consulted some baby books, and they told her to just ignore him. So, she did.
In the end, this resulted in Faust breaking his mother's ankle by biting it. She bit him back, and he realized that he'd been hurting people by biting them. It didn't immediately cure his biting issues, but it did help him to understand what he was doing.
Currently, Faust is rewarded with stars for his good behaviour. He's been doing pretty good, for the most part, save a few...run ins, you could call him, with his mother's prospective boyfriend. Lance. Faust still doesn't like him, and he doesn't see much happening to change that fact in the near future. He's decided he's a hooligan (Something he heard from Grandpa Viktor) and that he has to protect his mother from him. (Also something he likely heard from Grandpa Viktor.)
fillerfillerPERSONALITYFaust is a rambunctious little fellow, and rather attached to his 'mother'. He does not like to be apart from her, nor does he like being in enclosed spaces, or being still. Always moving, he is sure to be an adventurous little boy. He seems to be very outgoing, though at this age, it's hard to tell. One thing's for sure, however. Like all Kovaks, he has a dominant personality, and is very stubborn and determined.
He has a temper that is hard to handle, and when it gets very bad, he often resorts to violence to express his feelings. Talking is hard for him, and simply frustrates him even more when he tries to do it.

meaning and origin : Erik, Kali's father, chose her name upon seeing the bright fringe of red hair on her head as a child. Kalinka means 'little red bud' in Danish, and it was deemed quite fitting by both of her parents. She, on the other hand, despises it

She was born a bright, happy, and healthy baby, and lived a fairly normal life, all things considered. She grew up in TallenPoint, daughter to a factory worker in an unhappy marriage. The area they lived in was a fairly 'rough' side of town, and there were...incidents. One of which was her magic awakening.
When she was six, or seven, two men tried to kidnap her. They failed, but mostly because she blew up her heads. This was the first time she used her magic, ever; it was also the first awakening. Her body couldn't handle it, though, and locked it away, along with the memory of the kidnapping. She was found on the road, hanging out of the car, with one man dead on the sidewalk and the other in the front seat. The police believe she was saved by a vigilante, who had to leave her hanging out of the car when he heard the cops coming.
After that, strange things, small things, happened when she was in trouble. Boys who tried to pick on her ended up with strange ailments, or mysteriously stuck in trees. One particularily nasty boy disappeared for a full three hours before reappearing with an affinity for flies and a strange croak in the back of his throat. She never took much notice of this, however, chocking it up to luck, and living her life as normally as everyone else.
When her Aunt Elisa died, the whole family was affected, though perhaps not as deeply as Viktor. It didn't take long for them to notice that he was no longer able to properly care for Katia, but no one had the heart to tell this to the proud man.
Instead, they sent Kali to watch over Katia. Unable to accept this as her sole objective, Kali quickly set to 'fixing' her uncle, tongue-lashing him out of the room and berating him back to work. She helped Katia with her school-work, and even rid her of a particularily nasty group of bullies. Katia and Viktor soon became as close to her as her own father and mother; and she was rightfully upset when the time came for her to leave.
Upon returning home, she found things were not as she had left them. Her parents were holding world war three nightly at the dinner table, tossing insults back and forth until it escalated into a full-blown screaming match. The situation is less than bearable. Her father, always a temperamental man, hated having her mother in the house. He often took his anger out on household objects; chairs, dishes, walls, doors, they all felt his wrath. Then, one night, he turned on his wife. He accused her of being a whore, and of cheating on him with another man at the factory. Finally, the truth came out. Nova no longer loved Erik, and she HAD had an affair.
This would have been bearable, though they did not separate and were still fighting in the same house, had something else not been happening in her life. Only a few weeks earlier, she had found a mysterious book in the library at which she worked, and ever since touching it, weird things had started to happen. Levitating chairs, her room turning vibrantly green, and purple splodges appearing on her skin were only the mildest of issues it caused. She didn't know the explanation. That is, until a strange blonde man appeared. He told her she had stolen his book, and was causing chaos with it. He also told her that he was being blamed, and he needed her to clear his name. She agreed, and somehow this turned into the revelation that she was magic. Not long after, she became his apprentice.
Bouncing between lessons with Zak, school, and her wartorn home was not easy on the young mage. She quickly discovered that Zak was not all he had first appeared to be. Charming, yes. Intelligent, yes. But he was also selfish, rude, obnoxious, and arrogant. He placed an enchanted collar around her neck that forced her to obey any verbal command he gave, and was often less than helpful with the magical lessons.
It all came to a climax one night, when her mother and father were fighting, Zak was demanding that she come to his house, and her school was threatening to expel her for all of the days she missed when her magic was surfacing for the second time. A fight exploded between her and her parents, and in a huff, with most of her things, she left.
Only then did it occur to her that she had nowhere else to go. It took her a few hours, and a lot of phone calls, but she finally remembered Viktor and Katia's house. She hitchiked out to their house on Point Island, only to find it empty and deserted.
She was now homeless.
She wandered for a while, breaking into the house and sleeping in the porch for a night. The next day she headed to Viktor's company and asked for a meeting. They told her that she'd have to wait for a week. So, she did, squatting in his old house and buying food with the money that she'd had sense enough to bring with her.
When her uncle finally saw her, he was outraged. Not at her, but at his brother; also at his secretaries, for not letting her in immediately. He quickly whisked her off to his new home in Tallenpoint, and sent a very angry message to his brother, letting him know that when he knew how to care for a child, he could have his back. This message came in the form of a fist to the face, followed by a messy brawl at their grandfather's house. Axel didn't stop them. They haven't spoken to each other since; and Erik has made no attempt to get his daughter back.
Kali, however, didn't mind. She was quite happy living with her uncle and cousin, though her parents' behaviour does bother her. It also bothers her that they have done nothing to get her back.
Her lessons with Zak continued, since she had no choice, and after a long chat and a meeting with her Uncle, Zak convinced him to let her study magic full time. The issue with the school disappeared at a wave of Zak's hand, and Kali fell full and true into the magical world. Eventually, she fell so far that she moved in with Zak, though she does go to visit her family from time to time. And, by family, she means Viktor, Katia, and Dimitri. Her own mother and father don't even register as relations any more. If they tried to apologize, she isn't even sure that she'd accept it.
fillerfillerPERSONALITYKali's personality, in many ways, matches her hair. Fiery, and unwilling to go down without a fight, she has a spark that can burst into either excitement or anger at the slightest touch. Most of the time, however, she's happy, calm, coy, and sly. A fan of subterfuge, sometimes you won't even know she hates you. But if she hates you, she hates you. Vindictive to the core, she holds grudges, and will never forget a wrong done to her or one of her friends. Fiercely loyal, she won't stand for anyone hurting them; even if she often hurts them herself, from speaking without thinking, or acting without thinking, or...well, pretty much not thinking and being inconsiderate.
She's a very judgemental person, and is always quick to form an opinion. She's also quick to inform everyone of her opinion. Talkative, she loves to argue and to fight. This trait doesn't do well for her relationship with Lance, and they fight a lot. And then she sulks, and pouts. She's pretty good at it. Stubborn, she doesn't like to admit when she's wrong, and adores being right, though that has nothing to do with her being as stubborn as an angry old goat. She gloats a lot, and is embarassed easily. She cries when frustrated, and laughs when she's angry, a strange and often scary habit. She also hiccups when she cries, something she can't stand, but can't get rid of.
fillerfillerAPPEARANCEKali is porcelain pale, almost scarily so. Her eyes serve a steep contrast to her skin, dark and almost black, often seeming like two dark bruises on her face. She is merry and rosy, however, most often and avoids looking like a corpse. Her pale skin is 'marred' by freckles that she hates and covers with make up or an illusion when it suits her. Which is...well, pretty much all the time. Only those closest to her learn that she has freckles, and even then, they are sworn into secrecy.
Her hair is perhaps her most distinguishing feature, flaming red and down to her waist. When the sunlight hits it, just so, it almost seems as if her head is on fire. Her bangs sweep off to the side of her face, and she keeps it all out of her eyes in a large ponytail.
She constantly wears a black choker, imbued with magic that marks her as Zak's apprentice. A more apt description of the necklace is 'collar', as she has no choice but to obey any verbal commands he gives her. She has, however, found loopholes in this rule.
Most of her wardrobe is what many would describe as 'skanky', short skirts and tops that show off the perky breasts that she's rather proud of. However, she is not a slut; just a flirt. She has just as many pants as she does skirts, and always wears underwear. Frilly and lacy, but it's still underwear.
Her body shape is slim, and curvy. Her grandmother likes to point out that she's made to bear children, with hips to handle twins and breasts for feeding. Kali truly, truly hates it when they're referred to in this context. She's fairly short, though, and lacks the long legs that usually go with her physique. (She's a bit bitter about this.)
Standing at 5'3.5 (and don't you ever forget that .5!) and weighing in at 110 pounts, she doesn't cut a very formidable figure, but don't underestimate her. Posessing a bright, acid green magic, she is not afraid to blow up some heads or melt some faces.
After years of running around with Zak, and just from coming from the family she does, Kali is fairly lean and fit, able to hold her own in a physical fight and posessing endurance to rival a horse. She doesn't tire easily; something Lance is only too happy to take advantage of.

Faust adores his mother with all his heart, and hates to be apart from her. He sometimes gets cranky, like any baby, but it's more because he wants something, or is discontent, than that he doesn't like her.
Shade
Faust likes Shade almost as much as he likes his mom. He especially enjoys flopping down on him like a limp jellyfish and shaking around, though the reason is anyone's guess, really.
Aside from that, he's a baby. He doesn't really HAVE that many opinions.►►KALI'S RELATIONSHIPS◄ ◄Faust
Faust is Kali's baby, and like a mother bear, she would rip the throat out of anyone who threatened him. She adores him, and wants to do her best for him. Certainly, she will be better than her own parents were.
Zak
Kali and Zak have a very love/hate relationship. Zak orders her around, she kicks him in the shins, he makes a suggestive comment, she blushes and runs away. Or kicks him again. You never really know which it will be. She hates him, she respects him, fears, and likes him, all in one. To put it easiest?
It's complicated.
Her Parents
She pretty much hates their guts.
Viktor
Since his 'recovery', Viktor has all but legally adopted Kali as his daughter. He is almost as protective of her as he is of Katia, and while she is touched that he cares so much, she wishes that he would just back off a bit. She loves her Uncle, with all her heart, but she just might lose it if he chases one more cute boy away from her.
Katia
Kali and Katia are as close as sisters, and Kali is fairly protective of her. However, like sisters, they fight, bicker, and argue, and while Dimitri is usually the brunt of Kali's wrath, Katia is not exempt if she does something that Kali believes is punishable.
Dimitri
She loves her cousin, she really does. But if he goes in her room and touches her things one more time, being hung by his underpants off of the ceiling fan is going to be the LEAST of his worries. Of course, she isn't always punishing him for things. Sometimes she's in on the schemes.
Nigel
Kali isn't sure WHAT to think of Nigel. One moment, he's as big of an a*****e as Zak is, and the next, he's doing something nice. She understands that he's a d**k, but the question here is how much of a d**k is he?
Megg
Megg is quickly becoming Kali's best, if not only, friend. They get along rather well, all things considered. She enjoys spending time with her, though she does believe that she could stand to grow a bit more of a backbone when it comes to people who aren't Nigel.
Shade
Kali thinks Shade is adorable, and like Megg, she's a bit worried about his health due to his size.
