Well, this was creepy as all hell.
Those were Carrie Lemmings' first thoughts as she strolled up the walkway of the mansion, her handbag slung over one shoulder as she took in the sights. The blond woman could honestly say that she'd never been in a mansion before – not many people COULD say that they'd been, really. Even fewer people could say that they'd gone to babysit in a building that looked as though it should've been in a horror movie. That was what it looked like, quite honestly, and Carrie was half-wondering if she was going to end up chopped up in the basement.
That was ridiculous, of course – she knew that Megg and Shade lived here, as well as a few other people, and she was quite certain that none of them were serial killers. Strangely enough though, she hadn't been called here by Megg to babysit her son, Shade. The person who'd called her had actually been Kali, a friend of Megg's who apparently needed a babysitter for her son, Faust. Luckily, the blond woman liked kids, and she hoped that Faust would be as pleasant as Shade was. With that thought on her mind, Carrie rung the doorbell and stood out on the porch, glancing about as she waited for someone to answer the door.

Little did Carrie know, her day was only about to get creepier. Faust, though a charming little boy in his own right, was certainly not as pleasant as Shade. His was a wilder charm, and had he been older, some would have described it as rugged, perhaps. But, he wasn't older, and so most described it as hellish. Kali hadn't yet decided whether or not leaving him with a stranger was a good idea, but she had no other choice, really. Zak and Nigel were certainly not good choices for it, and Megg was busy. Which left absolutely nobody who could watch Faust. She'd been about to turn Lance's invitation down when she received it, and happened to mention it to Megg - thank god she had, or she never would have gotten Carrie's number. She was in her room getting ready with Faust when she heard the doorbell, and the small boy was quick to leap up and off of the bed, scurrying down the stairs and reaching up for the door handle. He pulled it, and hung off of it, swinging back to pull the door open as if there was no one behind it. However, he gave himself away as his tail flicked, flashing out from behind the door, and besides that he really could not help but peek around the big wooden door at the lady who was supposed to watch him while his Momma was gone.
"Hi, Carrie!" Kali smiled as she hurried down the stairs, covered by a loose fitting sweater. Faust slipped out from behind the door and hugged one of his Momma's bare legs, looking over warily and curiously at the pretty blonde lady at the door. "Thank you so much for coming. You're really a life saver." Her cheeks were flushed with excitement, though no amount of excitement would make her ignore her son. She bent and lifted him, poking his nose and making him giggle. "This little Munster is Faust. Faust, say hi to Carrie." "'Hullo mish Cawwie." He didn't seem to have completely gotten the hang of talking around his teeth, enormous, sharp, and visible as he opened his mouth to speak. He didn't look as if he'd formed an opinion of her, yet, and was watching her almost like a cat did a mouse, waiting for it to do something that would save it from being eaten. Kali smiled and set Faust down, patting his head and gesturing at the living room. "Why don't you go and play for a few minutes, Faust? Momma needs to talk to Miss Carrie." "'Kay." Said Faust, as he scurried away, well aware that it was not a conversation he was invited to hear. That didn't stop him, however, from peeking through the small vent in the wall to eavesdrop.
"Um. Before you start..I know I mentioned that he's kind of a handful on the phone, and that he's a bit of a biter, but I have a few things you can do if things get out of hand and I'll write down my number...If a blonde man comes in, just ignore him, he's a d**k. Don't let him bully you into anything, and if you can, just take Faust and leave the room. He should stick to the basement, though, for the most part...I don't know what Nigel, the redheaded one is doing, but Zak shouldn't bother you too much. Um..." She seemed fidgety, and nervous, wringing her hands. Part of her didn't WANT to leave Faust alone. What if he hurt Carrie? Or worse, himself? What if something went wrong, and Carrie didn't know how to deal with it? However, another part of her wanted desperately to go out and, hang her for her selfish thoughts, to be normal for a change. To not have to worry about magic, or babies, or anything, and just...have fun. Did that make her a bad person?? She was sure it did.
"If anything goes wrong, just call me and I'll come back right away, okay? I think there's a pen here somewhere...oh, and I still have to get my skirt on and..." She was muttering to herself as she rummaged around in the drawer of a small nearby table, looking away from Carrie for a moment.

The door opening was initially quite unsettling for Carrie, and a chill ran up her spine when she didn't see anyone at first - then, she saw a tail flicking out from behind it, and followed by a little face peeking out at her. The blond woman blinked before she gave the little boy a smile - she assumed that he was Faust. Megg had mentioned that the only two children living in the mansion were Faust and Shade, so it would only make sense. Blue eyes sparkled in a friendly manner as she gave the little boy a small wave before looking up at the redheaded girl who was coming down the stairs.
"Hello Kali." Carrie beamed at the young woman, watching as she lifted Faust up off the floor. "It was no problem, really - I like kids." She looked to the little boy and smiled. "Hello Faust; it's very nice to meet you." She wasn't entirely certain if Faust appeared to be shy, or if he was just examining her - maybe a bit of both. She'd find out soon enough, she supposed. For now, it was time to get the infodump from Kali. A blond man. Ah yes, Megg had mentioned both him, as well as Nigel. From what she'd heard, they were both assholes - honestly though, Carrie wasn't worried. She was quite accustomed to dealing with dickweeds anyway.
"He won't bother me - trust me. I'll keep away from him though, if he happens to come up." And now came the part that all mothers seemed to go through when they left their kids alone with a babysitter for the first time - the worrying segment. "Everything will be fine. I'll call you if anything happens though, okay? There's nothing to worry about."
"He seems like a cute kid." Carrie had to admit that she'd been a little shocked by Faust's appearance initially - the big teeth had been quite surprising. Faust was still cute in his own way, however, and she wasn't about to judge him based on the fact that he looked a little strange. She just hoped that he'd like her - it was always hard to connect with shyer children.

"Cute, but deadly." Kali's smile was strained as she grabbed a pen and paper. "The teeth aren't just for show. If he starts biting, remind him that Momma won't be happy, if he's not biting you and you can still talk. Er...if he DOES bite you, scream for Zak, and if you can, try to pry him off?" She really didn't want to scare Carrie away. Her cheeks flushed as red as her hair and she moved her hands animatedly as she spoke. "But it's just a slight possibility! He's been getting much better with not biting, and if he goes to bed without destroying something or biting anyone he gets a gold star on his chart in his room - the stars are in a small box, he can show you where it is. A-and...um...he hasn't bitten anything yet, today, so we're having a good day..." She quickly scrawled her number down and set it down next to the phone.
"I just-" "Momma?" Faust's big eyes, and his head, were peeking around the corner from the living room. "I pwomish I won' bite mish Cawwie." He was making 'the face' at her - with big eyes and a pout, innocence embodied. She knew very well that her son was anything but 'innocent', but couldn't help but smile at him and crouch down. "You promise?" She asked softly, and he nodded, padding out from the living room and hugging around her neck. "Pwomish." He said, nuzzling her cheek. Then, he stepped back and pointed at the stairs. "You should go get weady, Momma. I'm gonna show mish Cawwie my Dwagons, kay??" He smiled sweetly, and Kali sighed, running a hand through his bright green hair with a slightly tired smile. "You're sweet." She kissed his forehead, and stood. "You don't mind, Carrie?" She blushed again, her hands fiddling with her hair, which was not yet done. "I, uh...am running a bit late..." She'd been hoping to not do the whole 'make her date wait at the door while she fixed her face' thing, but the clock was nearing seven, and she wasn't even near being finished.

The bit of information on Faust's biting did, in fact, worry Carrie slightly. She didn't particularly like the idea of the kid clamping down on his arm with those sharp teeth of his, but she wasn't about to back out now. She'd already agreed to babysit, and Kali was clearly looking forward to going on this date - it was rather obvious. The redheaded girl gave off an anxious air as well, yes, but that was to be expected. Faust was a very....SPECIAL kid. It wasn't hard to believe that his mother would be nervous about leaving him with a babysitter that she'd only just met.
"We'll be fine, I'm sure." Had she already said that? Probably, but she was trying to calm the poor girl down. "I'll make sure to do that tonight after he shows me wear the stars are." Good God, Kali seemed to be a wreck! The girl certainly needed a night out, that much was certain! It would do her some good, Carrie was sure. The blond woman couldn't help but smile as little Faust charmed his mother with a small promise - it seemed to be enough for the red-headed woman, luckily. "No, of course not. You go finish getting ready." She smiled before shifting her gaze to Faust, giving him a grin. "Now, what's this about some dragons? I would definitely like to see them."

"Thanks..." She smiled at Carrie before hurrying back up the stairs, shucking her sweater in the hallway and kicking the door shut behind her. She flew about the room like a chicken with it's head cut off, her feet a patter on the ceiling of the living room.
Faust looked up as he heard his momma running around and frowned, padding back into the living room to find his dragon collection. Fennrys was lying on top of a block tower, the clear ruler of what seemed to be eight different dragon plushies.
"They're storming the keep. To try and bring the Queen out. But they're all smelly and gross, so Fenn won't let them." He said, looking up at Carrie.
"Can you help me keep the dragons out?" He offered a small smile, pointing at his block tower. "They'll ruin everything if they take the Queen."

"No problem." Anxious, anxious, anxious - that was the only word that Carrie could think of to describe poor Kali with at the moment. She hoped that the redhead's nervousness would lessen once she actually got out on her date. Hopefully, a break from her usual routine would do her some good.
Now wasn't the time to think about that though. Now was the time to get acquainted with the little boy whom she'd been babysitting. Carrie followed Faust into the living room, quickly spotting the munster's dragon plushie collection, as well as the stuffed wolf who was sitting atop a tower of blocks. A grin spread over the blond woman's face as Faust asked her to help keep the Queen safe and the dragon out. "I would be most honoured to help you in that task, young knight." she said, quickly taking to her new role in the game. "I'm quite unfamiliar with the nature of such beasts, however; perhaps you could teach me a thing or two while we fight off these creatures?"

Faust eyed Carrie as she referred to him as a Knight, and decided that he quite liked her. Mostly because she'd agreed to keep the Dragon out. Or, oops, he thought. Dragons. In their game. ...Yeah. "Dey haf cweepy, cwooked shmiles." He said, picking up one of the stuffies and poking at it's face. "An' dey hypnotize the queen so she vants to go out. But she shouldn't." He huffed. "She shoul' shtay inside, vith Fenn." He prodded his wolf, then looked at Carrie.
"Right?"

As far as Carrie knew, Faust was just talking about a game. A harmless little game in which they had to protect an imaginary queen from pretend monsters. Simple enough.
"Well, if these dragons are dangerous, then she should definitely stay in the castle with Fenn." the blond woman agreed, grinning as she knelt down next to Faust's tower of blocks. "So it'll be our job to help Fenn keep her safe, right? I'm sure that no dragons will get her when there's three of us on the job." He was cute, Carrie thought. His appearance had been a little surprising at first, but he seemed to be just like any other little boy his age. Heck, she might even have fun babysitting him tonight - she was sure that the two of them could come up with a number of different games to play while his mother was out.

Faust's eyes lit up as Carrie agreed with him, and his face split into a wide grin. She may have done it unwittingly, but by confirming that his mother should not, in fact, galavant with the pierced man, Carrie had become Faust's hero. He abandoned the stuffed toy, moving over to wrap his small arms around Carrie and hug her as hard as he could.
"You're nishe!" He said lovingly, snuggling into her. "I won' bite you. Promish." Not that he'd been PLANNING on biting her - no, he had simply not been against the idea, before. But now? He couldn't bite Miss Carrie! She was on his side! They were partners!
"Oh! An' thish ish de worsht dwagon." He said, pushing his clawed finger into a bright green dragon with black spines running down it's back. "It'she de leader! An' it'sh got metal in it's fashe." The more excited he got, the worse his lisp became, it seemed. But, he didn't notice as he moved back to his dragons, moving them around the tower. "The queen'sh in hew towe', and she shouldn't know dat de dwagons awe hewe. She'w jusht get upshet."
~*~
Had she known that her son was essentially plotting to ruin her date night, Kali would have been very upset indeed. However, since she didn't, she was simply nervous. The sweater had been the first to go when she got upstairs, abandoned just inside her door. She had deliberated even about the underwear she wore, not sure if she should wear nice ones or normal ones. If he happened to catch a glimpse of them, she didn't want him to think she had been expecting him to see them; but if she decided that she did, she didn't want to be caught with old, ratty, as-sexy-as-her-grandmother underpants.
Oh god. Why was this even an issue? Face red, she grabbed a pair made of white lace and cotton, compromising somewhere in the middle. The rest of her outfit followed; a black skirt and a green shirt that hung off her shoulders, long sleeved and swishy. Was it too fancy? Was it not fancy enough?
Oh, god, she was going to barf. Taking a breath, she calmed herself, running her hands through her hair as she tried to think of what to do with it. This wasn't a big deal. It was a date. With a boy. She'd been on dates before! Loads of them! Just...none recently.
Would she even be able to do it, anymore? Or had she lost her touch? She supposed they would just have to find out.
Thankfully, she wasn't given any more time to worry - she heard the knock at the front door even from upstairs, and nearly fell over as her heart gave a start.
~*~
Faust's head jerked up as he heard someone knocking on the door, and he dropped what he was doing, running over to the door and leaning one large ear against it. His nose twitched as he sniffed, trying to figure out who it was. But, really, he knew who it was. And he did not like him. Glaring at the door, he held his little hands against it, not opening it like he had with Carrie. And he really didn't have any plans to open the door, either.

Lance McCoy was, for once, dressed in a fairly decent manner. That wasn't to say that he was decked out in a suit or anything, but the young man had still managed to clean up rather nicely. His shirt was clean, and his pants were (for once) free of the holes that they normally sported. He probably still looked like a hooligan thanks to his piercings, but he wasn't about to take them out any time soon. It was a good thing that they weren't going anywhere exceedingly fancy, because he most certainly didn't HAVE anything that was exceedingly fancy to wear.
He couldn't really afford a date like that anyway. That being said, Lance had still managed to scrounge up enough money to afford a fairly nice place to take Kali out to dinner. When was the last time he'd been out on a proper date? Quite honestly, the boy couldn't remember, but it had certainly been a while. He hadn't really tried anything like this with a girl since he'd been with Marianna; hopefully, this would be nowhere near as disastrous as that had been. Lance had been told to just come in when he got to the house (which was really a mansion, honestly), but he'd knocked anyway upon arriving before moving to push the door open. The dark-haired boy was confused when he was met by interference on the other side, however. Was the door...blocked? Why the hell was it blocked?
On the other side of the door, Carrie had gotten up to follow Faust over from where she'd been sitting in the living room with him. She was surprised, however, when the little boy began trying to hold the door shut. "Faust, what're you doing?" she asked, moving to put a hand on the boy's shoulder. "It's not very nice to hold the door shut when someone comes and knocks." Gently, the blond woman pulled Faust back from the door before grasping the handle and turning it, pulling it open - she was soon greeted by the sight of a dark-haired young man. He was cute, she noted, but resisted any urges that she might have had to flirt with him - he was probably Kali's date, after all. "Can I help you?"
"Yeah, I'm here to pick up Kali." Lance grinned slightly, his eyes wandering down briefly to look at the the little boy who was with the blond girl. He quickly recognized the child, but was confused by his appearance - wasn't Faust a baby? This kid looked far too big to be the infant boy from before. But then again, maybe it was a magic thing - after Kali had given him a brief summary of what she was capable of, the boy found himself wondering if maybe Faust's quick growing was a result of the magic that Kali played around with. "Hey kiddo; it's been a while." He grinned at the boy, though he was silently hoping that Faust wouldn't decide to try to bite his leg again. That would not have been pleasant in the least.
"She should be ready soon, I'd think." Carrie said as Lance finally stepped inside. She noticed quickly that Faust didn't seem to be happy about Lance's appearance - did the little boy not like him?
"Alright. I'll wait." God, the kid looked like he wanted to murder him. Was he really that bad? Lance admitted that he was a skeeze a lot of the time, but it wasn't like Faust could know something like that!

Faust looked over his shoulder as Carrie came closer, scowling as it became clear that she wanted him to open the door.
"M'not allowed t' open the door f'r shtrangersh-" Faust started, but was foiled by Carrie opening it for him. He would have sworn, had he been allowed! As it was, he ground his fanged teeth together and seethed at Lance silently, sliding back to hide behind Carrie's leg. He kept silent, listening to the adults talk until he himself was spoken to.
"Coulda been longer, metal face." Faust bared his teeth at Lance, slightly, holding onto the back of Carrie's leg. He made a face, then fled the entrance way, hurrying up the stairs like a shot. He could hear his mom in her room, and cringed slightly at what he was doing. But it was for her own good. He didn't trust this man! He smelled funny, and Faust didn't like him. He didn't want to share his Momma. She got all...funny, around Lance. He didn't like it.
So, for her own good, he reached up, and bit the door handle off.
At the sound of the thud of the handle on her side of the door falling to the ground, and the other snapping off in Faust's jaws (although she did not know what the noise was) Kali turned, purse in hand and just about ready to leave. She just needed shoes and a coat, which were downstairs... On the other side of her broken door.
's**t!!" She gasped and hurried over, peering through the hole that was left in the door. It was blocked by the center section of the handle, though, which was still securely holding the door shut. How was she supposed to open it NOW?! She dropped her purse and looked around for something, anything to pry the stupid door open. What the hell had happened to it, anyways?! She swore, rather colourfully, and began her escape attempts.
"ZAK! If this is you, it isn't ******** FUNNY!" She half whispered, half yelled, not wanting Lance to hear her. God DAMN it all!
Faust was rather shocked to hear the language coming out of his mother's mouth. Usually, around him, she didn't swear. Around uncle Zak, yeah. But not him. He grinned, though, glad that she didn't know it was him. That had worked out better than he'd thought.
Scurrying down the hall, he snuck into his mother's study, and grabbed three small marbles. They had been gifts from Uncle Zak; which weren't usually good things, and his mother had been exceptionally angry when Zak had agreed to give Faust these. But she hadn't hidden them well enough, and it certainly hadn't taken Faust long to find them again. Enchanted, they were as good as water balloons - just smaller, and easier to hide. He grinned, and stuffed them in his pocket, sneaking back toward the stairs. Lance wouldn't know what had hit him. And then he'd HAVE to go away! Yup!
This couldn't possibly go wrong.

Carrie raised an eyebrow at Faust as she heard his response to Lance and was about to scold him for being rude, but found that she wasn't fast enough as the little boy bolted up the stairs. Clearly, the little boy was definitely not fond of his mother's date. Was he jealous, perhaps? She supposed that it wasn't an uncommon phenomenon among children - she could only hope, for Lance and Kali's sakes, that he would grow out of that. Lance was currently hoping for the same thing.
He was also resisting the urge that he had to throttle the kid. Lance didn't have a particular dislike for children, but Faust was a difficult one, and he had to admit that his patience was wearing thin - it seemed that the kid was trying to thwart him at almost every turn, and nothing he did made the kid want to do otherwise. The dark-haired boy blinked as he heard a loud curse from somewhere in the mansion and raised an eyebrow immediately. It had most definitely sounded like Kali, and it hadn't been a happy yell. Both he and Carrie frowned, and Lance found himself wandering towards the stairs, wondering if Kali was alright. It didn't occur to him that Faust might have done anything - he loved her, after all.
"I think I'm just gonna go check on her." Not that he knew where the hell her room WAS in this place, but he was sure that he could find it. He heard footsteps behind him and glanced back, seeing Carrie scurrying up the stairs as well.
"Right; well, I might as well go with you." She needed to find Faust, after all. Where had the little boy gone off to? She hoped that he wasn't getting into any trouble...

It wouldn't take Lance long to find Kali's room. Really, all he would have to do is follow the swears and curses, for a long and colourful stream of them was currently pouring out of the young mage's mouth as she tried to remember a spell that would open the door. Of course, Zak's ******** mansion had enchanted doors, so any old spell would not work. The few that she could remember off the top of her head had either done nothing, or back fired on her. One had decided that 'open' was interchangeable with 'tear', and so her shirt was abandoned, ruined in a corner. She was not happy, and her ginger temper was flaring. This, perhaps, was what lead to her current position. Which, to clarify, was standing across the room from the door, gathering magic in her hands to BLOW the door open. If it wasn't going to work nicely? Fine. She didn't have to play nice with a ******** DOOR. And even less so if Zak was on the other side of it, smothering his giggles.
To be fair, the blonde mage was not outside the door. He was in his study, and for once, innocent of the accused crimes. The real culprit was a few feet away, armed with a sling shot and glaring at the stairs, daring Lance to walk up them. He had magical ammo, and he wasn't afraid to use it. Of course, he was surprised to hear Carrie speaking as the voices neared the stairs. Why was she coming?! Sure, she kind of sucked for opening the door for Lance, but Faust liked her, so he was making allowances for ignorance. He couldn't shoot if SHE was there! Quietly, he mimiced a word his mother had said a few moments previous, and scurried back farther. Maybe he could draw Carrie away from Lance, and then shoot him when he was alone...?
