Shin grew up...kind of, with a rough life. He was abandoned at a local orphanage when he was a baby and doesn't know who his biological mother or father are. The orphanage that raised him was in a local church and he grew to like it, somewhat, but always felt odd and out of place. He didn't really have any friends, or even the chance to get close to anyone. A lot of the other kids tried to avoid him, because he was 'different' from them. He was odd, a little disturbed, and a little 'creepy'.
As soon as he hit 15 he started to gradually leave the orphanage, working on the streets, getting into selling pirated and fake merchandise, but stayed away from drugs. At some point he came to realize that information sold for much higher than DVDs, CDs, watches, what have you, and started getting into that instead. At first he worked for someone else, but over the years he realized that he was more valuable to his 'boss' than his boss was to him, and left the group that he had been working with. They were upset about it, but by that point he was already fairly capable and managed to leave pretty much unscathed, with the help of some information that he had gathered on all of the 'threatening' members.
Now Shin lives in a high rise apartment, at times, and also in the slums of the city in an abandoned building. He likes having the choice of living either way, and the old habits of exploring abandoned buildings alone as a child die hard. He likes their dark and dreary atmosphere, it feels almost like home to him. But, when he's tired of roughing it in the run down building that he's pretty much claimed as his own, he'll stay in his fancy apartment, mainly to keep himself a bit cleaned up or when he needs to meet with a high end client.
The Haunter has done well for himself, but being as big and well known an information dealer that he is, will his 'luck' eventually run out? There are some who seeks to 'own' his services and vast network, and others who'd sooner see him dead than have him work under them. Shin has made both many allies and enemies over the years.
