Shayera was born a twin in Kumogakure to a normal family. Her mother was caring and supportive and her father was a dedicated Jonin. Once Shay entered the Academy, her father changed drastically, becoming overbearing and pushing Shay too hard to become a great kunoichi. During a spar with an old friend of hers, her father pushed her to perform a jutsu that she had never tried, a jutsu that was dangerous to the person performing it if performed improperly. Her nervousness and stress caused the jutsu to backfire, hospitalizing Shayera and scarring her face across her right eye and the bridge of her nose. She ran from home with her twin sister, Sela, to escape her father, breaking her mother's heart. She seems cool, collected, and confident, but inside she is terrified of failure and terrified that her jutsu will backfire again. She tends to be very unsure of herself and is easily irritated. She has a lot of hostility towards her ex-boyfriend, Zephyr Uchiha.
