Ninetales (#03 cool
NU Tier

Art:
ANOTHER very straightforward named pokemon. I LOVE Ninetales.

How can you see this and not go "Awww"
CLICKIE
10/10

Casual:
Standard Fire type, which is actually really good, because if you didn't pick the fire starter, there is a real drought (lolfirepun) of good fire types ingame. It's stats are sorta low-ish. With it's highest 2 stats as speed and ... special defense?

One of the weird things is that, Ninetales cannot learn any HMs.
7.5/10

Competitive:
Ninetales is a special sweeper with great speed, simple of that. It has Wisp-o-Will which is great to mitigate physical damage. Also learns Hypnosis. Flash Fire is great for predictions, block a Flamethrower, overheat, etc and boost your STAB Flamethrower.

Although in the NU tier, there are better fire sweepers. First thing that comes to mind is Entei

Starmie starts off strong at 7.3 matching Electivire and Charizard. (I think I'd actually bring my vote up a bit more)

Rampardos follows suit, dropping down 0.7 points down to 7.3

Yes, it's Dart. and I personally like to read what people say about the pokemon since I'm not a very good trainer, and like to see what better people think.

Like I want to try an OU team with starmie now @__@

As a former Ninetales trainer, I can tell you the despair I felt, the day I first realized that Hypnosis got nerfed in Platinum. The days of Hypnosis + Nasty Plot were done.

The drop from UU to NU is unfortunate, but understandable, given Hypnosis's uselessness in Gen 4 and beyond. A shame, though- it had great coverage, what with being able to breed Energy Ball on it via Stantler. It's a beautiful, fast, and dependable Pokémon that happened to be on the bad end of a generation switch.

Kinda like Cloyster's fall from grace after the Def. and Sp. Def. split. ><

It's seen better days, and it's still with reluctance that I push Ninetales aside in favor of more reliable Fire types.

That actually made me a little sad. My Ninetales still gets lucky every now and then with a Wide Lens in hand, but I agree, it seriously got nerfed with the release of Platinum. For those still wanting to use the glory that was the Ninetales, from what I can tell, as long as you host the match with a Diamond or Pearl cartridge, whether your opponent uses Diamond/Pearl, Platinum or HeartGold/SoulSilver, the move Hypnosis will retain the 70% base accuracy. Of course, this is just my own personal observation.

I'm not an online battler. Usually. (I've gone online a few times on PBR and lost only a couple times) So I can't make a good judgment on Ninetails based on it's stats and whatnot.

However, I do enjoy using Ninetails and I have fun hitting opponent's with Confuse Ray and Will-O-Wisp. I don't choose a Pokemon for it's stats often (I do when it is too slow or has too low ATK/Sp ATK for my tastes. That rooted out Azumarill for me). I usually just choose what I like and go with it.

I suppose I can't call myself a true Ninetails fan because I didn't know it could learn Hypnosis, or I could've just forgotten since I don't use Hypnosis that much.

Well as a person who loves fires types, I can say this. Ninetailes isn't considered in my opinion one of the best. In terms of Fire special sweepers, one of the first ones that comes to mind is Houndoom. Who I consider one of the better Fire types. Now there is a few good reasons why Ninetales is NU.

1.Not a great Atk. or Sp. Atk. Stats-can't make good sweeper in higher tiers.
2.Hypnosis is nerfed.
3.Not the best movepool.

though Ninetails is one of my favorite fire pokemon, I rarely use it, I use Vulpix more, just when I want to have fun and battle random pokemon. I agree that Ninetails isnt the best pokemon, but people still seem to like it.

Having run Ninetales since Gen 1, I can tell you right now that this set won't work.

Ninetales' frailty is its downfall, and without status, you're taking its greatest asset out of the equation. Its defenses won't let you live past that first Nasty Plot turn without a seriously stupid opponent (or an inept wall, at which point they're likely to Roar or Whirlwind the bonus away, anyway) unless you have a Focus Sash- which leaves you horrendously open to priority attacks.

If you're gutsy enough to move forward without buffing your Sp. Attack, Ninetales lacks the offensive stats to consistently secure a kill.

Kyrenx: Damn, now I have to find my Diamond. I miss using my Ninetales. ;_;
