I heartily dislike thieves. However, they pay quite well, when you can get them to pay you fairly. Normally I'd not have had any sort of trafficing with a thief. Much less a whole guild of them. This thief, Rae is what she calls herself, stole a few magical items from a House of no little importance. The thieves were riled at the rouge theif's presence and success. The sum offered was too tempting. Twenty Thousand gold just to catch some thieving elg'caress and drag her back to be dealt with by her own kind? It had a multitude of pleasing aspects. The gold of course. Plus the opportunity to rough up a female. Yes, I will admitt that there was a certain enjoyable aspect to the job.
I had only minor difficulty tracking her down. Primarily due to the fact she had left the city. I had to journey on my own just to keep ahead of the House hounds that had been dispatched to find the thief. Competition. Normally I am unconcerned by it, but when it is a high house that is involved I begin to worry.
She is a elusive thing, and I nearly lost her trail twice. So cunning... Eventually I did manage to corner her. I wonder if she was aware she was being hunted and that is why she was so well prepared? She evaded my darts, my ropes, my nets, my daggers. She kept manageing to free herself every time I managed to grab her. I honestly tried to kill her!
Rae then proposes the most inane compromise. Silly girl. Foolish girl. She offers to play a game of Sava with me. If I win she would agree to come with me as my captive with no fuss. Of course I didn't believe her one whit. I'm not a fool after all. However she had in her possession a magical scroll, I assume it was the one from the heist I had initially been hired over. This magical scroll was, in fact, a Gease spell. I wonder if she understood entierly the power of that scroll? I certainly did. Even if she had no intention of signing the scroll when she lost, I figured it would buy me enough time to recover my strength and place me within arms reach of the girl after I won.
She played beautifully. Sava is a game that shows true mental skill on the part of it's players. Like the crossing of blades or the beauty of a cunningly laid trap. She was... stunning. I do not know how I could have lost, but I feel no sense of shame. It was a honestly won game. So I signed the scroll with only a small amount of relculance. Becoming her Battle Captive was certainly not something I wanted, but I am a man of honor and I live by my word as well as my sword.
Silly girl. Foolish girl.
She's damn lucky and Goddess blest that she has me with her now. Stupid..stupid...beautiful girl...
The House hounds likely stalk her still. The thieves guild still wants her hide pegged to their wall. If she did not have me she would most likely be dead now. I cover our tracks as best I can. Even without her orders I do my best to protect her. She has a horrible light hearted attitude. She laughs too often. She is noisy and too bouncy. Foolish girl...
I think I love her.
Stupid man.
