Kua'kua flinched as the energy rolled over her, but somehow - didn't actually hit her? Kua'kua blinked, squinting at the shield that had sprung up around them. She frowned for the briefest moment, glancing around before she located the apparent source of the shield: a Knight. She had no idea from whence this Knight came, but she made a mental note to find out after they all survived this whole thing, and to thank them for their services.

In the meantime.

"Petal Perfume!" Kua'kua shouted, this time extending her hand to the construct that towered over them. "Everyone, hold your breath!" She shouted belatedly to the group of Senshi and Knights that were all clustered around the construct's base. The petals scattered up and into the gyroscope, and Kua'kua just hoped that this creature would be affected similarly to how the previous ones had been.

With the magic rising through the chamber the glow of the walls intensifies, bringing with it an almost musical sound that echoes across the battlefield. Someone scrutinizing the phenomenon might realize that the crystals set into the wall seem to be resonating with the many-pointed star at the center of the shrine.

Of more immediate concern, however, is the shrine’s large protector. Though there is no apparent crack in the defenses of the Wellspring’s faceless guardian, a noticeable wobble in its motion betrays the fact that the party’s attacks have not been in vain. Despite Blarney’s best efforts, the unstable construct does not make itself easy to climb and its rings knock the young knight back before he can reach the core.

As Cardinal searches the fallen Teruda construct a small hatch in the chest opens, revealing a series of three small holes, likely the places from which the darts Tempesti mentioned would have fired. It isn’t clear how to access any of the construct’s other mechanisms.

Under the waves of power battering it the construct suddenly freezes, hovering silently for several seconds before the crystalline rings surrounding its core begin to glow, their intensity matched by the sphere at their center. The eyelike structure spins wildly until finally, dozens of beams of colorful light fire across the battlefield, striking anyone they hit with feelings of intense and painful heat. It is unclear if this is the construct's last stand, but its systems do not want to go down without a fight.

Athene’s beads can’t quite restrain the entirety of the construct’s onslaught, but they mitigate some of the damage, successfully blocking a significant number of the beams before they can hit their targets.

Flaming nausea streaked through him as he looked around the battlefield, eyes dancing with the flashes of light that lingered in his retinas. <******** ********. This.

The senshi wanted to believe that there was a chance to fix…something about a planet. Maybe not as badly as Tempesti did, but he was willing to admit to at least some level of investment in all of this.

He wondered if the smell of burning hair was in the room or in his head.

His limbs moving more quickly than his mind, he was crouched beneath the stupid floating a*****e before he registered that he was running, grabbing the young knight Blarney under his armpits and hauling him backwards toward the safety of the other knight’s shield. Dead kids weren’t exactly part of his plans for the day.

“Oh, crap!”

Cynthus ducked. She didn’t know if she had to. She didn’t even know if it was a good idea; what if she ducked the wrong way and ended up getting hit by one of those light beams? It was instinct, though. When your enemy suddenly puts on a crazy light show, it probably isn’t meant to be benign.

Fortunately it seemed like everyone in her vicinity got shielded. Cynthus had no idea where it came from or who was responsible for it, but it didn’t matter. She’d figure that out later, maybe. The important thing was they could all rely on one another even if they didn’t really know one another! Teamwork made the dream work!

“That was really rude!” Cynthus shouted at the Guardian, whacking at it again for good measure. Nevermind that they were attacking it. Or that it might not be able to hear them, or at least hear her over all the noise of voices rising and weapons swinging and magic flinging all over the place.

These sorts of things really were super chaotic.

Cynthus huffed and glanced toward Poe and Paradise again. They looked a little worse off than she was, but that was probably only because they weren’t as used to this sort of thing as she was. She frowned at them. They should really be at home. What if all this zapping triggered a heart attack? Poe didn’t even have a good weapon!

“You can’t keep throwing that,” she told him. “What if you lose it? Maybe you’ll get something better later. Like a staff. Most people I know get a staff. Except Reims got a sword, but he’s a loser so he probably needs it more.”

Niflhel frowned heavily as he watched the crazy construct just started shooting beams and he could feel the heat from it even though he got lucky and wasn't hit. "Oh ... this is not good." He muttered looking at the construct.

He had an idea and wasn't sure if he could get them but he started swinging the meteor hammer trying to get enough momentum before letting the meteor hammer fly hoping he could hook it on the rings to try and throw them off. Maybe it would stop the guardian from firing those heat lazers -- or so he hoped.

There was a frown when nothing of use came from the search. While she was distracted she missed the fact the construct was attacking them and she got hit. There was a noise of pain when it ht her with the intense heat that felt like it was burning her all the way to her insides. She stumbled away from the construct before attempting to use her attack to maybe slow down this one too? "Uktena's shine" She managed through gritted teeth before sitting on the ground hoping she wasn't going to get hit again.

When Cardinal calls this attack an illusion of the Uktena appears behind where Cardinal is standing. The gem on her tiara then gives off a dazzling light that temporarily leaves her opponents seeing spots if they look directly at her.

This attack lasts for 30 seconds and can be used 3 times. This attack effects those opponents that are 10 foot (cone radius) in front of Cardinal. Usually, the spots seen from the light after the attacks ends are also gone, but could last longer and be distracting if a player so wishes.

The beams tore across the chamber, too fast to dodge. He braced again, but the searing heat never landed. Dering’s magic caught it instead, the swirling mist and shapes holding and keeping the protected.

Reims let out a sharp exhale, but he was already looking over to Dering. The strain was obvious, seeing the way his fingers were stiff as they worked against the strings, but he was holding. Protecting them. Protecting Lisse. Protecting him. And everyone else nearby.

His chest eased slightly. It wasn’t enough to drop his guard, but enough to at least breathe.

When he glanced at Halle, he hesitated. He’d caught the nod before, and the thumbs up to the others. He’d thought it was maybe a joke at his expense for a moment. Halle’s grin never seemed to waver. So, after a moment of scrutiny and doubt, Reims caught sight of Halle with his shield across the battlefield and gave him the smallest of nods in acknowledgement. It wasn’t a smile, but at least a small gesture to show he trusted him to keep the others safe. After all, Amarynthos and Ephesus and Cynthus were over there.

He lifted his sword again, shifting closer to Dering and Lisse as he did so. “You’re good?” he asked quickly, scanning both before turning his focus back on the construct.

It looked like it was already starting to break. Which meant they could bring it down. Reims tightened his grip on the hilt of his sword and then lunged forward once more.

Ephesus flushed at Mary’s words, the warmth in his voice stronger than the lightning had been. Amarynthos was always so encouraging, always looking to lift him up. And Ephesus appreciated it more than words could say.

“You don’t have to say that just to make me feel better,” he whispered, even though a part of him desperately wanted to believe everything Amarynthos said. He knew better, of course. He was doing his best, but he was not a fighter. He fought because he had to.

“I’ll keep fighting like I am. I want you to be able to worry less about me,” he said quietly, leaning into Amarynthos’s arm for just a moment longer, letting it ground him, before he straightened up and pressed his lips together in determination. His dads were close, Cynthus was still ahead, and a Lysithea Knight (Halle) stepped near them with a shield. If they could all fight, so could he.

He reached down to touch the small bauble at his hip, the water cool against his palm. It was enough to calm his nerves at least, and he let the magic be drawn forth in the shape of a great tiger, ethereal but fierce, its roar echoing through the chamber.

“Go,” he urged softly, and the tiger leapt to strike at the guardian’s crystalline rings, claws scraping against it.

Ephesus stayed close to Amarynthos as his summon bounded forward, his own chest still tight with fear. But there was a certain amount of determination under that fear as well. He wasn’t going to let anyone down. Not Mary, not his dads, not anyone.

The guardian’s rainbow light lashed out, searing the air. Poe flinched, ducking instinctively, but the worst of it passed by him. He still felt the sting of heat against his skin, though. Not exactly comforting.

“Seriously?” he sputtered up at the thing, incredulous. “First lightning, now this? Are you going to start casting fireball on us next? Wait, don’t do that,” he grimaced.

Cynthus’s shout cut through his frustration, and he gave her a quick, forced grin. “Yeah, yeah, I’ll hang onto it. I think I’d look better with a sword, though. Or maybe a cannon. That could be cool.” Reasonable? Probably not, but it would be useful if he didn’t have to move around.

With chess piece in hand, he took a deep breath and jumped forward again at the construct. If it wanted to show off then fine. He would just have to keep fighting.

Heat streaked across her vision, and Paradise hissed between her teeth as she held up her crook to shield herself. But it seemed as though they were saved by a combination of magical beads and a shield. She let out a sigh of relief.

She glanced over at Poe and Cynthus, both still moving, both still fighting. Relief steadied her, especially when she could see her sons fighting as well. They were all doing their best.

“We’re still fine,” she said, as though a promise to herself. “We will be.”

She tightened her grip on her crook and jumped forward again, striking as hard as she could.

The light beams cut across the chamber, but none touched him. Lucien’s cur bristled anyway, and a snarl rose in his throat.

“Cowardly thing,” he spat, claws flexing. His tail lashed once before he was lunging again, claws flashing as he raked them across the nearest ring. He would not stand idle while his family fought.

The flood of light seared through the chamber, but when the glow faded, he was still standing. He turned quickly, checking on Ephesus, Amarynthos, Alastor, Lucien, the others. All still fighting. There was relief there, swelling in his chest, but he couldn’t get complacent.

He nodded to Alastor, a silent promise to stay close to him. He would have Alastor’s back, just as Alastor would have his. As always.

He let the stormglass shift in his hand again, and he held tightly to the sword. He raced forward, picking a place where others weren’t around so he could strike.

The colors flared and struck true. Agony tore through Oberon, white-hot, and his knees nearly buckled under the force. He gasped, clutching his chest, vision swimming.

Not now. Not when they were so close. Not when Oort and the others still fought.

Teeth clenched, he forced himself upright again, though every muscle shook. His throat was raw, so he didn’t say his magic out loud, just locked his sights on the construct and cast his magic.

Chills and sweating are experienced, as if having a high fever, and chest pain as though in cardiac arrest. Other symptoms are unique to each individual. There is no outward damage done by the attack, but those that experience it get to "survive" their worst fear, and are left weakened and psychologically drained.

The armillary sphere's crystalline rings had shimmered with a sinister glow and had been followed by the armillary sphere suddenly shooting out colourful beams of light like candy–

Oort had flinched instinctively as one of the beams had ended up coming awfully close, but by some stroke of luck, none of them had actually struck him.

But despite the barrage of attacks sent in the direction of the sphere, the stupid thing was still turning–

And Oort definitely wanted to try and avoid the next hit getting 'lucky'.

Reddish eyes narrowed in concern as he realised that Oberon didn't seem to have been as lucky, a silent question in his gaze, although he left the the words 'are you okay' unsaid.

Instead he turned his attention to the sphere in an attempt to see if the thing had any sort of weakness that could potentially be exploited, although his silent worry for his friend meant that he was somewhat distracted.

Whilst it seemed like his beads may have potentially done some good by blocking some of the beams of light, the beads hadn't been able to block everything.

Not that Athene had expected them to, had been relieved that they had managed to block something, and even more relieved that someone had managed to drag the Earth Page (Blarney) away from the thing.

One of the beams of light had scored against his side, leaving a white hot streak of agony in its wake.

Athene staggered, breath hitching from the pain, before gritting his teeth as he called on his magic again - this time his super level magic.

"Beads of Nazar – intensated!"

Drawing on some of his energy, Athene’s magic takes the form of a more complex-looking glowing ball of ethereal, intangible-looking evil eye protector beads that Athene can then direct towards a target within reasonable throwing distance in his line of sight.

If the magic connects and the target has malevolent intentions towards either Athene or one of his allies, then the ball will separate into several spiritual evil eye protector beads that surround the target, trapping them within a stronger barrier of beads with a 1 metre radius.

A trapped target is not actually immobilised - they can still jump, block, or strike with their weapon - but they cannot leave the ring of beads while the magic is active and a corrupted being with the ability to teleport will no longer be able to teleport out of the ring of beads. The beads can be smashed from the outside however and smashing half the beads (about 24 to 30 beads) will break the barrier.

After 35 seconds the beads will glow briefly, before they shatter and disappear. The shattering beads may distract the target briefly [player’s choice], but will not cause any actual damage to the target.

First Blarney flying away and then the wave of energy had Monch frozen in place, brain blanking out in a sort of 404 error. Once she finally reloaded the last few moments, the senshi realized that she'd been saved by a big, blue, ghostly Evil Eye! "WHOA!"

And that Bacchus had saved Blarney, "WOW!" She'd have to tell him all about getting picked up and carried off by a tall, handsome alien. Like sure, it wasn't exactly a princess carry? But Blarney wouldn't have to know that.

The biblically accurate Meanie Wheel loomed up on high and Monch was out of magic, but she still felt pretty good! And the thing was definitely feeling their attacks so, she would keep going to!

"Alright!" She shouted, "POP KICK!" A fluffy pink and white figure flew up on powerful legs to deliver her ultimate kick!

Well. Maybe not her ultimate kick.
