*David Merlo
Name: David James Merlo (his daughter is the Merlo on the MCL)
Nickname: He will respond to Dave, but it isn’t a name he prefers to go by.
Gender/Pronoun: He/Him/His
Age: 54
Birthday: August 30th, 1968
Sign: Virgo
Gemstone: Peridot
Blood Type: O-
Fav. Food: Grilled cheese sandwiches with an embarrassing amount of cheese.
Hated Food: Liver
Occupation: Investments
Hobbies: Star Trek - David grew up on reruns of the original series, and then loyally consumed every movie that came out. He fell deeper in love with Next Gen, DS9, and Voyager, and again with Enterprise. The newer Star Trek took some getting used to, but he hasn’t outright disliked any of it. He tends to keep his devotion to it on the downlow out of respect for his teenager daughter, who consents to watch it with him but doesn’t want her friends to know her dad’s a nerd.
Games - Now that he’s free of the additional burdens in his life that prevented him from doing so (his ex-wife), David happily put together a game room with a couple of pinball machines and arcade games, plus ski ball, and an entertainment set up for video games. He insists it’s not a man cave, but it kind of is.
Virtues: Affectionate - Friendly and caring, David is unafraid of showing affection, although never physical affection unless the recipient is consenting. He is warm and receptive and open minded to new things. He always seems to have something nice to say, even in situations that would often cause frustration.
Practical - While David is usually optimistic, he is not prone to idealism. He tends to be pragmatic about things, and is able to look at issues from multiple angles. He is logical and generally level-headed.
Loyal - David is trustworthy and dependable, especially for those he has formed bonds with. He prefers to nurture existing allegiances rather than seeking out new bonds. He is the kind of friend someone can count on to drop them off at the airport at five in the morning, or pick them up to take them home after a late night out. He sincerely means it when he offers to let someone call him any time, day or night, for help.
Flaws: Perfectionist - David holds himself to an impossibly high standard, and this can sometimes extend to others. He finds it hard to adapt to sudden change because of it. He tends to over-analyze and put undue pressure on himself. He judges himself more harshly than he judges others, which makes him prone to unnecessary stress. He prefers organization and meticulous planning, and prefers to follow a well defined path rather than being spontaneous. He often forgets that he’s allowed to have fun.
Permissive - He tends to let people get away with way more than he should, but it is easier than arguing. Confrontation can cause disruptions to his orderly life, so he’ll try to avoid them when he can. If someone is slacking off, he’ll take care of the loose ends. If someone wants something from him, he’s likely to give in. Especially if that someone is his daughter.
Demotivated - More so in life rather than in work. Because his standards can be too high to meet, David becomes dissatisfied with himself, and with certain aspects of his private life. He is Disheartened by drama and would rather not bother getting involved with it. He doesn’t put himself out there when it comes to friendships or romantic relationships and tends to go with the flow instead. The last time he tried, he was betrayed, and he let that affect him a lot more than it probably should.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTIONEyes: Goldenrod.
Hair: Once blond, David’s hair has started to go silver/white with age, and he hasn’t seen any reason to change it. Cut short and styled neatly. Well tended with a surprising amount of volume.
Face: A squared jaw with a shallow dimple on his chin. Enough age lines to make his teenage daughter scoff about him being ancient. (He isn’t.)
Skin Tone: Medium caucasian; not pale, but not deeply tan either. Could certainly acquire one if he spent more time outdoors.
Body Type: 6’ even. He keeps himself in shape.
Clothes: Traditional business attire. Business casual out of the office. (Some sort of nerdy t-shirt when he’s feeling bold, which is a bit more rare these days.)
