BackstoryElysion Ely's mismatched eyes peered up into the starlit sky. He had been sitting there since the sky had begun to darken - an early spring dusk which had gone through yellow-green, fresh colours while the sun slunk down behind the forested hills. He sat at the top of a hill - the highest point he could get to in the area - wondering what it would be like to be observing the stars from those tall mountains in the distance.
With a sigh the male picked himself up. It had been a good evening but the cold was beginning to seep through his fur and into his bones. He wasn't getting any younger and he could feel it. It wasn't that he was old but as he had grown to maturity he had felt the sprightly energy of youth seeping from him.
He wasn't sure where he was going and so thus often thought on where he had come from. The pack had finally fallen apart. One by one their numbers had been decimated by disease, departure and.. the two leggers. Soon there had been very few left of their little pack. His parents, himself, a second-cousin-once-removed of sorts who had been brought up by his parents alongside Ely when she was orphaned.
And then his parents were gone.
His mother gone to walk in the stars, his father not long after. Both from natural causes after a hard winter. Ely's eye were downcast now as he plodded down the hillside. His cousin and he had decided to head off - his cousin to seek out other relatives who had left before himself to... who knew where.
He hadn't really wanted to search out lost kin - he had felt somewhat betrayed in a small way by their leaving. He had struck out alone for the first time in his life hoping, perhaps, to find others perhaps a mate perhaps friends and join ith them in a stronger, fitter pack who would not fall apart...
As he reached the bottom of the hill he stared into deep dark forest. They were out there, ready to be found... He threw back his head and howled ong and loud.

BackstoryMu'sha"What are you doing here!?" the black and white wolf in front of her exclaimed, surprise showing in his violet eyes. There weren't many things which ruffled him but Mu'sha was one of them. The mainly white female had somewhat of a resemblance to Kalain - the mostly white coat, it's fluffiness, the hint of purple here and there and a certain look which suggested they might be related. That, however, was where their resemblance stopped. Mu'sha was taller than Kalain, a little bulkier too. Where he was a feminine seeming male wolf she was a masculine seeming female wolf. She had always been a proud hunter and deservedly so - she was swift, accurate and a good tactician. Rage in her was funnelled into pin-point precision in the hunt. And at the moment she was hunting Kalain. "What do you think I'm doing here you flea-bitten excuse for a wolf. No in fact you don't deserve the title wolf… perhaps rabbit would be more like it or even mouse with how much of a coward you are - running off like you did." Kalain sighed at the onslaught. He should have known she would come after him, should have figured she wouldn't let him slip away easily even if it was for the good of them all. "Mu'sha I'm sorry but I had to go.." "No. You didn't. You wanted to go because you couldn't face up to your responsibilities. You were our shaman.. Our messenger to Kalain.." she paused a moment, her tone lowering "and you are my brother. Damn you I was worried!" "I'm not your brother any more. She's gone our tie is broken you have no obligation to me and I to you." "Is that how you see it? That simply? That we were only tolerant of each other for her sake?" That was how it had been in the beginning in fact. The pair could barely stand the sight of each other when Kalain had mated Mu'sha's sister. The strong hunter had not given a lot of credence to the slim acolyte and it had only been after quite some time and observation that she had begun to realise he had his own tribulations to contend with. She had, in fact, come to even like him a little. As for Kalain he had never really disliked Mu'sha but.. She had never made an effort to be friendly to him. He had imagined she still carried the dislike and disdain she had for him when they met. "Kalain damn you, you idiot" she snorted. "I'll say this only once so you'd better listen carefully. I don't hate you, I've even come to like you a bit. I didn't come after you because of some imagined obligation but because I was, in fact, worried about you so don't think telling me we have no connection any more will make me go away." Mu'sha had no real obligations of her own. Yes, she was one of their groups most skilled hunters but there were plenty younger wolves who could hunt just fine. She had no pups or mate of her own to worry about and so had decided to come look for the wayward shaman. "Mu'sha… I'm not going back.." "Then neither am I" "..why?" In all honest Mu'sha didn't know. She could have gone back now, knowing he was safe and calm his mother, their common relatives and so on that he was well but now that she was here she was determined to bring him back with her. She felt it would likely be for his best - he probably was still struck with grief. And anyway, he didn't look like he'd been feeding himself that well - he was as skinny as ever. She sat down, a determined look on her face. Kalan had seen that look before. He sighed a little, then began to pad off in the direction of the lee in which he had been sleeping. "You'd better come get some rest, then. I imagine, knowing you, you've barely rested on your way here.." Mu'sha scowled behind his back. It was true but she was not a young pup to be scolded. "That's none of your concern." she growled grumpily. "Ahhh feels Just like I'm back at home.." he muttered softly. "What was that!?" "Nothing…"

ReprisalsHelios // Persephone The evening sun glinted off damp leaves creating soft, shadowy patterns on the forest floor. Small creatures went about their business - hiding themselves away for the night to come or slowly waking up ready for a night of foraging. The calm, though, was quickly broken.
Helios slunk through the woods, trying his best (which wasn't very good) to be stealthy. He had called upon those who he had asked for help but was to irritated to stay in one place waiting for them to get their tails in gear. He knew he shouldn't be going so close to the main den of the Glen pack but he had to know the territory a little better to make sure his plans were going to work. Until now he had relied on Erin's reports but how could he know if she had been telling the truth? The little b***h could have been leading him on all the time.
His eyes were alert, his nose flaring but it was hard to tell if others were around - so many smells mingled here.Persephone padded quietly across the leaf strewn ground like a pale ghost. The young albino's body language was undoubtedly morose; her tail hung low between her legs and her posture slightly hunched. She hadn't felt very talkative of late, not even to her twin. The young female blamed herself for the troubles that the pack now seemed to be undergoing. She should never have been so stupid as to trust that conniving low life of a wolf. He had used her and then thrown her away like last summer's leaves. And she had been idiotic enough to fall for it all. Now there were wolves missing and unpleasant stories surfacing.
Unable to sit around in the cave any longer, Persephone had decided to take a short walk to clear her head. Zagreus had warned her against straying (not that she needed the warning), and as such she had stuck close to the den, remaining well within the pack's heartlands.
As she moved, a tiny rabbit burst from the undergrowth and shot off, zig-zagging along the trail before disappearing back into the shrubs. Persephone turned in the direction of the noise, before dismissing it. The rabbit was well gone. Just as she moved to continue her walk, she did a double take. She thought she had spied a flash of gold from between the shadowed leaves. It couldn't possibly be.. Helios' head came up instantly as he spied white against green, smelt a very familiar scent close by and strong. Well, well, well! If it wasn't Persephone. He grinned internally, thinking of the ltittle white female and how much fun he had with her. She had been oh-so-innocent... It'd be fun to see if she was still head over heels for him - so many ran off angry only to come slinking back to him.
One of Helios' biggest downfalls was his inability to pass up the chance at manipulating or cavorting with a female. In fact he would be endangering himself by revealing he was so close by but he didn't think of that - only the pleasure he migth get here, now.
He didn't even try to hide himself as he walked forward. "Persephone.." was all he said, looking at her with his most mournful look - as if he had, in fact, been looking for her. Maybe even that he was more broken hearted by what had happened.Persephone could feel her hackles raising as the small flash of gold did indeed turn out to be Helios. Uncertainly, she took a few steps backwards, watching the large male all the time. The small female had never been much of a fighter, lacking the skills and the advantage of size. Nor did she have the temperament for it, in truth. She just wanted to be away from the large golden male as quickly as possible.
"G..get back. I.. I don't want to talk to you. I don't want to see you or smell you!" Persephone's confidence seemed to grow a little as she spoke. The words tumbled out of her before she could stop herself. After her outburst, she fell quiet again, staring at him warily, unsure of his reaction."Pe..Persephone" he said, almost a whisper "I'm sorry I know you must hate me but.." he shook his head wearily, as if sickened with himself. "What I done to you was wrong - sometimes I can be so..so.." he didn't finish the sentence - he would have had to gigle and give himself away since he didn't believe a word of it. His eyes came back up, an almost pleading look comng to them. "Persephone please, believe me.. I came all the way here to see you even though Zag would kill me if he found me.. I wanted to see you again."
If he hadn't been so well schooled in keeping a straight face, had not percieved what he could get out of it, he would have been grinning. This perfomance was more melodramatic than he had ever done before and he was rather enjoying it. Hopefully she'd believe him and then... well then he'd have double the enjoyment and she double the embarassment.
The large, golden male had practically forgotten the trouble he'd truly be in if the alpha male of the Glen pack did find him here.Persephone stared at him for a moment, her eyes revealing a tumult of emotions. There was a long pause as she seemed to struggle with herself. Revulsion, fear, anger.. perhaps even a faint touch of pity as she stared at him. When she spoke again, it was barely more than a whisper.
"..You don't know anything. You used me, and you weren't a bit sorry. Why should I believe you this time when everything you have *ever* told me was a lie? You got all you wanted to know from me and then threw me away.
...I don't know why Erin insists on accompanying you. She's ten times the wolf you will ever be. If Zagreus does kill you, then I won't be sorry."
Perhaps the last line wasn't entirely true - Persephone wasn't so heartless as to enjoy another wolf's death, but nor did she believe that Zagreus would outright kill another wolf without a very good reason. The albino wolf seemed to have found her backbone after several weeks of wallowing in self-pity and misery. She knew the woods a lot better than Helios did, hopefully. If she needed to, hopefully she could give him the slip and raise the alarm if the golden wolf tried anything. He was used to snippy females, even angry ones but the vehemence coming from the little pale female somewhat shocked him. She had been such a little, delicate flower when he first met her but now she was all venom. The comment about Erin, though, was enough to trip him out of his nonchalant amusement over Persephone's change of character into real anger. It was still a raw wound - that Erin had gone to their side, that she had betrayed him.
Helios never really trusted females to be good at anthing except bringing him food and raising pups. They certainly weren't better than him. And if any could be said to be inferior it was surely Erin - the half-blood sister, daughter of a lone, omega of their pack and not even attractive to boot. To describe her as ten times him was probably the worst of insults.
In his anger though he realised the danger he might be in if he was found/ He didn't want to make a big fuss but he certainly wasn't going to be upstaged by this little upstart female.
"You're right, you little whore, I didn't care a bit for you and yet you just let yourself be used. I didn't force anything on you, you wanted it, liked it" he hissed in reply. If he couldn't get her again he could hope to make her feel even worse. He wouldn't let her think herself above him, afterall. As Helios spat back a few insults of his own, a small voice at the back of Persephone's mind muttered that he was right, that she'd allowed this to happen and that it was all her own fault. Then, her own words came back to her. Helios had never told her anything that wasn't a lie. She had got to him.
"Maybe I did, but I thought you were something more than what you were. There was nothing whorish in what I did. You're a manipulative, lying cur, and a thief. You're a jealous, pathetic excuse for a wolf. Can you even hunt? Or does Erin bring absolutely everything to you? I don't think you could lead a pack, and I don't believe what you told me about Zagreus and your old pack at all."
Persephone was becoming even bolder. Normally quiet and peaceful, the small female was doing something she had never done before; channelling all her pent up worry, upset, self-pity and anger into a venomous assault against the male who had wronged her so.She was right, she had gotten to him. The big male was not used to having his own kind of nastyness spat back at him. He was trying to put her down and was having the whole thing turned on it's head. Here she was putting him down! How dare she?
He sputtered for a moment, so angry he felt his skin was ging to boil. His hackles raised, his lips drawing back as he finally retorted. "I can take care of myself just fine, but I choose to let bitches like you and her do my work for me as you're not worth anything else. What do you do for your pack, little girl? Hmm? I'm sure that pretty white fur would be a bit less white if you were actually not just a worthless hanger-on." of course he couldn't know if she did or did not help out but a few stabs in the dark never hurt.
"Not exactly like you're big or strong and wandering off by yourself to spend time with strange males? Hmph hardly good for your pack. If I was your alpha I'd make sure you were doing more than that, for sure."
He growled deep in his throat, relishing the thought as he added "and when I take this pack down I'm going to be your alpha. I'll keep you at my side and make sure you make yourself useful." His smile was positively preadatory, his one good eye glinting with malice. The voice of doubt grew a little stronger, niggling away at her. If the other wolf looked at her closely, he might be able to notice that she was beginning to shake very slightly, but whether that was due to him getting to her or simply anger was hard to tell.
The small albino closed her eyes for a moment, regaining some measure of self-control. When she opened her eyes again she spoke quietly and deliberately.
"You will never win against this pack. You might have gotten some victory over me, but I won't repeat my mistake. Zagreus and Calliope will win against you."
With that, the female turned. She had spent too long in this slanging match. She had to go and find her alphas to tell them how close the threat to their pack lurked.
She had taken a single step before she turned to regard Helios again through her crimson eyes. "Besides.. I'll never follow you again. Rabbits will eat bears before that happens." With that, she moved to walk away. "Oh I didn't say you'd have a choice in the matter" he called after her, half snarling. He did rather like the thought of keeping her prisoner by his side. He wasn't sure how he'd manage it but he thought the little she-wolf was certainly the type that would break if he pressured her enough. Of course he believed that he of all wolves was capable of pretty much anything he wanted - capable of taking over this pack for instance.
He walked forward, trying to block her path. She was a liability if she went back now. He'd have to run, move fast, get out of her. That or stop her. For a moment he was undecided. Despite his words, he wasn't overly fond of physical violence - it got his fur dirty. It had hurt his eye... Persephone though was so small compared to him.Persephone drew herself up as Helios moved to block her path. She'd had a feeling that he might attempt to stop her. Though her heart was pounding, she did her best to keep a calm exterior. It wouldn't be wise to give away her agitation. She just hoped that Helios was so wound up, he wouldn't notice her own unease.
If she was going to escape this unhurt, she was going to have to think fast. The pair were standing on a wide game trail that was surrounded by trees and shrubs. Helios was stronger and most likely faster. She'd either have to out-maneouvre him or outwit him. Perhaps both. She suspected that Helios was perhaps not so good at hunting and tracking. Not that she was stellar herself, but perhaps she was good enough to evade him. Provided she could make the break for cover.
Deliberately, she took a single step forward, staring straight at Helios. "There's always a choice."
She paused to glare at him, and then as quickly as she could manage, she whirled around and headed to the side of the trail rather than past Helios or away from him. A fallen trunk blocked her path, but her intention was to scramble under it before losing herself in the undergrowth. If it didn't work, she was in trouble..He hadn't really expected her to move, and so fast. Unluckily for him she had moved off to the side with his bad eye. It gave her a few more seconds whilst he moved round to follow her with his good eye. It was then a few more seconds before the shocked male could begin to think about chasing her.
Her cursed under his breath, his muscles bunching. He could chase her now or he could go. She would undoubtedly only race him into the jaws of her packmates and he hardly had a chance on his own. He'd get her... just like Erin. In his mind he added them to a rather long list of wolves who had 'wronged' him and who he intended to repay some day.
With a last snarling growl he set off back towards his hideout. She didn't look back as she ran. Taking a winding route, she scrambled over fallen trees, under shrubs and through deep beds of plants taller than she was. It didn't matter where she was going, as long as she lost the golden male. The young female had explored her packlands well enough to be able to get her bearings well enough when she stopped.
As she ran, she expected to hear the male crashing through the undergrowth after her. After a while, she realised that she couldn't hear anything of the sort. Had she lost him? Or was he better at stealth than she knew?
Just to be sure, as soon as Persephone found a stream, she walked up through the water to lose her scent. The older pack members had taught her that. She had never done it before, having never needed to lose her scent. Eventually she decided that she'd walked through the water long enough. Her paws were frozen and she wanted nothing more than to return to the safety of the den. It took her some time to figure out where she was from the sky and the landmarks, but eventually she decided that she was on the right track. Carefully, as if she half expected Helios to leap out at her any moment, she began to make her way home.Helios stood at the edge of the territory watching the sun dissappear behind the cliffs that marked the valley edge. The sun was going down and it would be getting dark soon. Things were going to happen soon and fast - and he needed to get his act together.
He needed to get back to his own 'pack', organise them and finally move to take these lands - show little bitches like Erin, like Persephone that he was better than them, was greater in all respects. He had been shown up time after time lately by females and it grated on him. He would show them, he would.
As Helios moved into darker woods he repeated this mantra to himself.
