Maia's eyes scanned the forest as her nose snuffled along the ground. She was on the trail of a young faun she had spied earlier and which she knew must be nearby in the deep woodland scrub. The young mother's brace of pups were a ravenous lot and she found that lately she was having to make more and more hunting trips in order to fill their little tummys.
Her nose finally caught the scent she had been looking for and she crouched down, muscles flexing tautly. She had begun to lose the last of her 'puppy fat' and was becoming a little more muscular despite her small frame. The rigours of looking after her young family mostly by herself was a challenge but one she could honestly say she enjoyed. With a grin catching on her maw she snuck foward.
It was only a few moments, some stalking and a pounce - more cat-like than wolfish really - and she had the young faun in her jaws, it's head lolling, eyes glassy. It would at least quiet her pups for a little while, she thought. So busy was she stalking her prey, though, that she wasn't really taking note of her surroundings. She hadn't been subject to anything yet which made her incredibly wary of her surroundings and she had begun to know the small patch of woodland where she had currently set up a den for her cubs quite well.
She licked the blood from her chops as she tried to figure out the shortest way back to the den.

Chip had heard alot of noise and his attention had been drawn to it. Icer he had left sleeping so he went to investigate the noise. Listening carefully he heard something fall and he decided someone was hunting but still he was curious and wanted to go and see what was happening. After all its boring just thinking, why not join in?
Moving slowly he saw the female moving the carcass, he didn't go to close as he knew better then to get his head bitten off by a stranger however she didn't look all that strange.
"Maia?"
He spoke softly and moved a little closer though of course he didn't get too close because there seemed little point in getting his head bitten off whether it was the female he had met before or not.

Her head came up quickly, eyes fixed onto the fawn and purple-blue male who seemed to have managed to sneak up on her. She had a fleeting moment where she almost shot off with her prey but quickly she recognised the male who stood before her.
What was his name? It took a few moment to come to her - it had been a while since the pair had come across each other and their meeting had only been brief, odd. "Chip..?" she said, almost questioningly, hoping her memory served her rightly. She was not the type to go on the offensive and gave a friendly wag of her tail despite remembering the odd behavior Chip had exhibited last time the pair had met.
She wasn't sure what to say. Last time they'd met the young male had not wanted to talk only to play and she wasn't sure her tired muscles were up to that just now. He looked a little calmer now, though so maybe... "How have you been?" she asked, smiling.

Chip watched her for a while and smiled as she spoke. He could remember their meeting clearly, she had met him when he was all messed up and he could admit and explain it all now however telling others that you can get inside their minds wasn't a great thing to be boasting about.
He nodded as she said his name and smiled, "I have been well, I was lucky enough to come across a lovely female who bore my two pups, one of which is near by. How are you?" He couldn't help but mention Icer, he loved his daughter more then he had loved anyone, even his mother. She was just like him and so enthusiastic. He adored her.

Maia grinned at the male's pride and his coherency. He seemed happy to speak to her now. Perhaps having a family had settled him down - that was certainly something the young female could relate to.
Maia's bright orange and black fur ruffled as she allowed her tail to wag a little more enthusiastically. She also couldn't help but tell him her own good news. It wasnt often she got to boast about her brood. "I've had my own litter since we last met too" she grinned "two boys and two girls. They're not too far from here either." Nodding at the young fawn at her feet "they're always hungry... this is their supper." Maia was proud of her brood, and this was the time she had really spoken to another wolf about them.
"Seems like a lot has changed since we last met.." she said gently.

Chip listened and smiled, he could smell other scents on the female but had assumed they were just pack members.
"Congratulations, does your mate help you with them then? Four sounds like quite a handful!" He had two pups and he and Kin weren't mates, they just had a special night he would never regret after all he loved Icer so much.
"You are right, it seems alot has changed, for the good though yes?" He smiled at her, she didn't seem to be upset about having pups so it seemed a good thing to assume that things had changed for the good and not the bad.

The orange and black female pauses a moment before answering. "Their father... he's not with us..." she smiled somewhat wistfully. "And yes, four is quite a handful but they're all so wonderful I don't mind." she changed the subject, smiling a little.
Her observations of him told the female that Chip really had changed a lot since that last meeting and that, with both of their good news, made it seem like a million years had passed since the pair's first meeting. She smiled, this time a little more brightly. It occured to her that, in a way, the pair had 'grown up' about the same time and it made her feel like they shared something.
"Maybe sometime yours and mine could meet?" she wondered aloud, thinking it would be good if her brood met with others their own age. Even though they had each other she wanted to make sure they had every chance to make friends - something she had been somewhat denied when she was young.

Chip nodded as she spoke, he had left Kin with his son but he was sure she would look after him well. Chip and Kin weren't mates and the last thing he wanted to do was pretend they were something they weren't not even for the kids, luckily Icer understood.
His ears pricked up when she mentioned the kids meeting and he nodded, "It would be fun though I only have Icer, her brother is with their mother and I honestly don't know where that is." He smiled and shifted his weight a little. He did sometimes feel guilty leaving Kin but they just weren't meant to be....

Maia nodded, not commenting further on that... Sometimes odd family situations came up - her own had been unusual and was again now that she had pups of her own. She didn't think it would affect hr pups much, afterall she was allright, wasn't she? and she'd been brought up by her mother alone... Of course she was sure she'd have the help of her pack if she asked for it but she barely knew most of them yet. She'd have to find Ieshia and let her know of the good news...
"Perhaps it would be good for your little one to spend some time with others... I always wonder what it would be like to have grown up with siblings." she didn't mean to be presumptious - the pup possibly enjoyed being around her father and probably had other friends about but Maia did feel in some way envious of the large group of pre-made playmates her pups had.
"Talking of which.." she looked down at the small, stiff carcass at her feet. "I'm going to have to get back to them soon or they'll get too hungry and come looking for me."

Chip listened to what she said and nodded, he had litter mates but had grown up alone so could agree with what it was Maia was saying.
"It would be nice for Icer to meet some more pups, she does seem to play alright and has a vivid imagination but she does lack playmates and things." He thought about what she said for a while and decided Icer should meet some more youngsters.
"Do you want some help carrying it back?" He didn't want to imply that she couldn't carry it on her own but he liked to be helpful.

"I should be allright to carry it on my own." Maia didn't take his offer the wrong way - if anything she was always pleasantly surprised when others offered their help rather than like some who took it as a grave insult to themselves.
She smiled at the fawn and purple-blue male, a truly soft smile coming over her face. Despite their odd first meeting she now felt more comfortable with the male. Perhaps it was the fact they were both 'settled down' and seemed now to be in control of themselves more than they had been.
Her tail wagged too and fro as she leaned down to grasp at the neck of the young deer. "I'll be around here for a while... just howl if you're about and I'll find you" she grinned, her voice muffled by the mouthful of fur. Turning she set off back to her den-ful of pups.
