[ S ] Yael's Great Beast [ S ]

[- 1014 words -]
[- Yael -]

When the first landed on the island of Yael, Nuri was astounded at how different the place looked. The ground felt different than anything he was used to, although that was understandable considering he spent most of his life on the shifting sands of Oba. To be in this dark, dreary world, Nuri felt himself completely out of his element. It seemed he wasn't the only one, as the entire group of obans were quiet and contemplative as they began to search for their first camp.

"Our guide across the sea spoke of giant beasts that linger around the fire mountain to the south..." Eidan spoke up later that night around the camp fire, the group still hushed as they ate and adjusted, "Said they were bigger than even a janarim...with tusks and hard armor for bodies..."

Nuri lifted his head from his stew, nodding to show he was listening to his peer but keeping his eyes on the men around him. Most of the part was here as a scouting trip; an effort to do research on the settlements of the area and get an idea of the size of the land. Oba may not intend to take over the island, but they wanted to be prepared none-the-less.

"It's good then that we have a marker to travel toward..." Nuri added at last, looking toward his friend who grinned at the thought. It would be interesting to hunt down a beast none had any idea on, one of the biggest challenges both tamers had faced in a long time.

"At dawn, we can head out. Hopefully we wont encounter any locals...who knows what they think of the beasts...probably see them as some sort of god..." Eidan's laughter filled the rest of the camp with spirits, and soon enough the obans were laughing and speaking of what they expected to encounter on their short trip in the area. Most jested of monsters and glowing eyes, but Nuri had a feeling that the trip would be uneventful for most. As long as they kept away from the settlements, and merely observed, the group should be able to get out without any repercussions.

The next morning, like clockwork, the small band of tamers set off to the south. A solider joined them, but mostly to also scout the area and provide protection if something got messy. It wasn't a serious concern, all things considered, because both tamers had a group of beasts to assist and ward off any curious onlookers.

When they finally arrived to the fire mountain, which wasn't actually on fire, Nuri caught sight of large beasts. At first, they seemed to be rocks, but after one moved he knew this was where he needed to be.

"Look at them...they are monstrous..."

Nuri ignored Eidan's praise of the creatures, thoughtful on how to approach such things.

"We should make a camp away from their nest and observe them for as long as we can. We do not want to go in blind, lest we get trampled. And I, for one, have somewhere to be..."

He ignored the man's teasing glance, and worked to set up a camp and ensure his creatures would keep away from the beasts. Already, the large beasts of Yael noted their presence and began to lumber farther out, not keen on their company. This wasn't going to be easy.

After a day of study, their escort grew bored and began to explore the mountain, which Nuri was glad for. Having a smaller number would only aid them. Nuri turned his focus back on the beast.

It was large and scaled, and seemed keen to keep near the edge of the forest. Its jaw reminded him a bit of a snapptrotter, and it was low to the ground and quite dangerous. The largest ones looked to be great mounts, although the speed was questionable.

"Ready to do this?" Eidan interrupted Nuri's thoughts, and the tamer turned to his friend. Both seemed a bit pale and nervous, but ready to take this on.

"Let's go for the smaller ones, find some that are away from the pack...should be easier to manage than the largest..."

Both men nodded, and began to scout out their own target beast. Ideally they wanted to grab a handful...but it would be difficult not only to maintain such creatures, but also to travel back on the ships. They had to be quite heavy. So, Nuri crept around until he saw a young one, clearly no longer dependent on the parent but small enough to show it was in its youth.

His whip snapped out before the animal could see him coming, and it wrapped around the neck like a collar. Nuri wasn't concerned about strangling, because the hard armor of the beast wouldn't really promote restriction. Instead, he needed to worry about the sudden tug of power that sent him in the direction of the beast's teeth.

After quite the struggle, Nuri finally was able to corral the creature with the assistance of his janarim and radaku. All three creatures were grunting to each other, and so Nuri loosened his hold on the whip and allowed Naraka to direct the beast along the path. He approached their camp to see that Eidan was also successful, with a dark one of his own. Both tamers shared a grin, before launching into a discussion of how to control and direct the animals back to their actual camp.

The travel back was long, and their escort was surprised to see two beasts nearly the size of the radaku. Nuri wasn't really concerned about the man, but instead with bonding with the creature he was leading. Having his other beasts helped immensely, and he knew that such a catch would get him some high praise from the army back home. That is, if he could successfully train the animal before he got there.

"From what I recall, they called this great beast a limbara..."

Nuri nodded, before looking back at his newest companion. Great beast, indeed.

[ S ] Family Dinner [ S ]

[- 1,138 words -]
[- Oba -]

Nuri was nearing the end of his month-long stay in Oba, and it was becoming anything but a vacation. With multiple meetings with his superiors to discuss the exact plan of his travels, to selecting and prepping the familiars he would bring along, to spending time between his family and Aseara, the oban found little time to spend on his own. It wasn't an issue, per-say, but it was causing a bit of a stress and wearing the tamer down. It was a blessing, when his father and brother finally were around the same time and his family demanded a dinner to spend time together.

His mother was healthy, her cheeks warm and her skin the soft caramel coloring that was so different than his own. She did share bright red eyes and his red hair, which admired on her lighter skin. With smiles and wrinkle lines around her eyes, she embraced him as he entered their home, welcoming him back despite having seen him not so long ago.

His father, stern and with dark skin, seemed dominating with his even darker hair. The only thing he shared outside of his skin was the V of crystals on his cheek, a trait passed down to two of his three children. He didn't greet Nuri as warmly as his mother did, but his father shook his hand and made an offhand comment about how proud he was.

His elder brother didn't seem too bothered to greet him, more interested in speaking with their father. His elder brother shared the dark hair of his father and the light skin of his mother, and did not have the crystal markings on his cheek. He too appeared stern, more focused on his merchant sales than on spending time with his brother catching up.

It was his sister, however, that greeted him with the most warmth. Appearing to be almost a carbon copy of himself, Edathe had grown up quite a bit since he last saw her. Soon enough, she would be an adult and facing the world, despite how much he wished she'd stay young and happy. As she pounced on him, she began to ask him all sorts of questions about his travels, which he was all but happy to answer until the group was called for dinner.

They settled down into a silence, his mother bringing out the meal as his brother and father finally stopped talking about the state of the bandits on the border. Edathe was swinging her legs in her seat next to Nuri, constantly looking over and smiling up at him. He sent her a small smile back, before his father moved to eat and the rest were permitted to do so as well.

"This is delicious, Mother. I never realized how much I missed home-cooked meals. I must be used to the Army rations..." He complemented to break the silence, and his mother sent him a proud look at patted his hand from where she sat next to him. Across the table, his brother got a sour look across his face.

"Right, the army. How is it playing with creatures all day?"

Nuri rolled his eyes, but set his utensils down to look toward his brother. They had grown up constantly at ends with each other - his brother being the favorite for their father and Nuri being adored by the woman of the family.

"It is quite the honor to tame and train war beasts, and to be selected to travel Tendaji to do research on beasts unknown..."

"Really?" His brother interrupted, "Why bother? It's obvious that we hold the greatest war beasts of the lands."

"Yet we still lost to our enemies." Nuri responded just as quickly, ignoring the glare from his father, "If we foolishly ignore the might of the other beasts, we will never be strong. It is my duty to tame beasts across the lands, to learn their strengths and weaknesses, and help others tame them as well so our army can grow stronger. One example of weakness is the fact we have no kinfa riders. We need to learn about the birds otherwise we will fail when attacked from the sky."

There was a long moment of silence, and Nuri suspected he won this verbal sparring match, before his brother snorted loudly, "Right, I guess that's why you are so keen to travel...you have such a fascination for foreign beauties."

His mother hissed and Nuri all but snarled at the comment, well aware of what exactly his brother was implying. However, it seemed his father wasn't as in tune to the argument.

"What are you going on about..." The gruff voice of the patriarch of the family finally spoke up, leaving both brothers glaring and demanding the other speak up. Finally, the eldest shifted and turned to directly face his father.

"Nuri has been spotted at the Red Amaryllis visiting a lot of the non-oban woman." He gritted out, and Nuri could feel the glare from his father.

"I am not the first, nor am I the last to go to the facilities. Last I checked, you also have been known to visit such an establishment, known for its abundance of foreign entertainment." Nuri responded back slowly.

Both boys argued back and forth, with their father looking less than pleased and their mother and sister appearing confused. After another long moment their father slammed his hand on the table, silencing everyone and causing Edathe to jump in her seat.

"It is disrespectful for our family to be spotted doing such a dishonorable thing. I don't care if you decide to waste away, but you should have never been caught. I forbid either of you to return to that establishment."

With his brother looking smug, Nuri glared back at his father, "I refuse."

Silence.

"Excuse me?"

"I refuse to listen to you father. You do not direct me. I have followed your direction my entire life, but I am not your concern any longer. I am a member of the oban army, I have fought for our country, and I have the right to do whatever I wish. I am no youngling, and I will not tolerate or accept your interference with my life any longer."

He heard his mother whispering for him to stop, but he kept his gaze on his father. Both men were silent, before his father turned to his food and shook his head.

"Leave."

Nuri stood, brushing his hand over his sister's hair and leaving a kiss on his mother's cheek. If this is what it meant to follow his own dreams, than so be it. He'd find a way to see his mother and sister again. But for now, he had some extra time to hunt down Aseara and see her before he left.

[ BB ] Patience is a Virtue [ BB ]

[- Battle Located Here -]
[- 492 words -]
[- 53 Experience -]
[- Tale -]

Nuri was traveling through the lands, and was trying to do his research on the best creatures to collect that were often used in battle. One of the most noteworthy animals was the giant birds of Tale, colorful creatures that grew large enough for an earthling to ride. Even if he wasn't trained to ride them, Obans needed to learn about them in order to potentially tame themselves - not being in the air was a distinct disadvantage even with their large warbeasts.

Someone could simply fly above and take one down without any sort of damage.

So, in an effort to both understand and tame such a creature, Nuri traveled to the south of Tale, near Vers where many Kinfa tamers were about. They watched as he moved about and prepped, jeering him a bit. Nuri didn't let it bother him as he finally got his items and made his way.

After a long trip, he finally came across a flock of kinfa. They were larger than he expected, and as he neared, almost all flew about. All that was left was a single bird settled atop a soft nest of brush. It was a bright red, and seemed to almost represent flames. Nuri moved closer, not yet taking out his whip as he maintained eye contact and stilled every single time the bird seemed ready to flee.

So first try, keeping calm should ensure that they wont bolt. Next was to figure out a way to get the bird captured without causing strain or it to escape.

Nuri was silent for a long moment, uncertain on how to deal with such a large creature. This was no easy task, considering the bird could take flight and get out of his grasp without a moment's notice. So, he debated pulling out the net he had retrieved from his pack, knowing it would be the most helpful for such a large and flight creature. Moving his hand to his hip, he took his eyes away from the bird for simply a moment, and then the creature stretched its wings and let out a loud screech.

His hand fell a from his side before both covered his ears, eyes darting back to glare at the bird as it moved from the nest and to the sky. Rushing forward, he watched as the Kinfa flew away, cursing under his breath before looking back at the nest. There, he caught sight of a large egg. It would be easy to grab the egg and take it back, but Nuri wasn't one to disrupt a nest if he could avoid it. Instead, he turned away, happy to note that the bird would be back and hopefully would abandon its egg.

If he was lucky, he'd catch it the next time he returned. For now, it was time to go back to the tamers of Vers, where they would hopefully not tease him too much for his failure.

[ BB ] Returning to the Scene [ BB ]

[- Battle Located Here -]
[- 505 words -]
[- 53 Experience -]
[- Tale -]

After a week of the tamers in the village hassling him about his failure. Nuri was determined to go back and take a second chance. He knew there was a nest in the area, which meant that the bird would return as long as there were eggs. It also meant there was a bit of a danger that the bird could become protective of said nest, attacking him on sight. It was a major risk, but Nuri wanted to get one of the great birds of the sky. He didn't need many, as one would be enough to train and evaluate for taming purposes.

And, he knew that the army was curious about the birds for their riders too.

As Nuri returned to the scene, he was pleased to see that the bird was alone on its nest. It wouldn't be too difficult to sneak up on the creature, and this time he planned on using his whip to hopefully snatch the creature by one if its long legs. The way he had his whip set up was a gentle slip noose that he could release if needed. It wouldn't harm the bird but it would help keep it close to the ground.

Inching through the brush, he came from the side and noticed the bird was preening. It was still just as striking as the first time he saw it, and Nuri almost became distracted from the flame-like feathers.

Catching himself, he gently moved his spare whip toward the leg of the bird, waiting for it to shift and step into the loop before flicking it up and tightening it around the creature's leg.

As soon as the bird shifted, it seemed to become aware of the whip on its leg. It let out another shrill cry before taking off above the nest. Shifting around and pulling, it tugged Nuri right out of his hiding spot and near the middle of the clearing. More cries filled the air as Nuri struggled to tug the bird down, and he debated letting go of the whip if only to let the creature calm down. The entire fuss was only a matter of seconds, but Nuri felt as if it was hours.

When the bird finally settled on a branch above the clearing, it seemed to glare down at the whip on its leg. Nuri watched with fascination as the Kinfa poked and prodded the whip, before suddenly it began to snap at it.

"No no no!" He hissed out, releasing the whip so the bird could pull away. Startled once more, the Kinfa cawed loudly and pushed off into the air, leaving Nuri covered in sweat and leaves as she stood next to the egg.

"Well...that went as I expected..." Nuri spoke down toward the egg, glancing down before double checking as he noticed it shiver almost. Was it going to crack.

Leaning down, he reached out to touch the egg, but the shrill cry of the mother caused him to jump back and head home.

[ BB ] Cracking [ BB ]

[- Battle Located Here -]
[- 499 words -]
[- 53 Experience -]
[- Tale -]

So the soft approach didn't work, and the whip was a bit difficult thanks to the size of the bird. A last effort was that Nuri needed to use a net to capture the animal and make sure it didn't fly off. As Nuri was in the village, he ignored the advice that many of the others offered. Some Leafsmen suggested food, whereas others suggested he actual try and mount the Kinfa and ride. All seemed quite outrageous and considering their laughter, Nuri took none to heart.

He did notice, however, a group of men who recently came into town. They all seemed keen on the discussion, despite their intention to sit back near the edge of the bar. They appeared a bit disorderly as if they didn't belong, and Nuri was quite suspicious. However, it was not his lands nor his job to worry about such people, and so he left to complete he task and capture the Kinfa.

As he approached the nest, he attempted to go around from a different angle. The hope was that he would not be sighted, and as he pushed through the brush he was pleased to see that the bird was preening and facing away from his direction. Once more, he could appreciate the flame-like feathers on the beast, but soon enough he needed to focus. Taking his net, he tossed it through the air and it landed over the bird, which pushed off and attempted to fly away.

With a mighty flap, the Kinfa raised into the air before becoming tangled and falling to the ground.

Nuri took a long time to let the creature settle under the net. There was no sense in rushing such a large creature, as it would only stress the bird out and hurt the taming process. Add in the fact that the bird could easily break a wing or tear a muscle, and Nuri knew he didn't want to continue to add any unneeded stress.

After what felt like hours, the bird seemed to finally settle, it's eyes sharp and glaring at Nuri. The Tamer moved to stand, brushing off his pants as he slowly walked closer to the deep-breathing bird.

It was then he heard the crack. Head snapping to the side, Nuri gaped as the giant egg that settled in the nest heaved before a crack split it in half. The shell of the egg dripped down the side, revealing a heaving bird of the same flame colors as the parent. Suddenly, the Kinfa began to struggle once more, and Nuri made up his mind.

Darting forward, he took the net and lifted it, releasing the bird as it scrambled to its young. Stepping back, Nuri shared a look with both, before nodding. The bird was a parent, and he would not risk such a separation with a youngling. Before, he imagined he would take the egg, but now he would let the two thrive in the wilderness where they best belonged.

[ BB ] Unfortunate Situation [ BB ]

[- Battle Located Here -]
[- 481 words -]
[- 53 Experience -]
[- Tale -]

Something felt off.

It was the last day Nuri was in the settlement to the south, where all of the Kinfa tamers were housed. He had failed in capturing a Kinfa, but earned respect from the locals for his actions with the chick. As a result, they trusted him with advice on how to train the great beasts of Tale, leaving him hopeful he could someday capture his own.

However, he couldn't help but notice the men who were also housed in the village. They were worn and ragged, but seemed keen to know more of the birds themselves. After a few days of observation, he finally realized what was going on.

They were poachers.

As they left the village, they boasted about the great kill, showing off feathers that looked like flames and would sell for a great amount. Angered, Nuri raced into the woods to search for the beast, before finally walking upon it's body on the ground.

It had been stripped of the beautiful feathers, and had been stripped of its life.

Nuri was aware that they were away from the nest, and so he made his way deeper into the woods and prayed the chick was still alive. When he finally got to the nest, he could hear the chick crying out for food, and quickly moved close with his net. He didn't cover it completely, but he did wrap the small bird with the net and attempted to calm it down. It responded to his gentle coaxing, but seemed keen to move and find its parent.

He spent a long time sitting next to the nest, calming down the chick. The entire thing was difficult to manage, but Nuri was able to get the bird accustomed to his scent and eventually he was able to pick it up. Bigger than he expected, Nuri shifted the bird a bit before it cuddled into his chest and his cape.

It was heartbreaking.

The walk back to the village was long and slow, his mind focused on the parent Kinfa and his path longer so he could keep away from it. He didn't need the small bird to catch sight of the parent, and as a result freak out and put up a fuss. Instead, he kept the bird close to his neck and whispered soothing words much like he would to a child.

It seemed to work.

When he arrived, the village tamers were angry at the sight of the chick, and furious when they listened to why Nuri had the young creature. All of them agreed they would go out to the body and make sure it was given the proper disposal, and some even went around the village to spread the word of the poachers. Nuri...he was given a crash course on how to raise a youngling chick and a long night of no sleep.

[ S ] Forgotten Raptrix [ S ]

[- 1,013 words -]
[- Sauti -]

Sauti was a sight to behold. During the war, the main focus was on the great clearing filled with tents. The war camp did little to show off the natural beauty of the mountains and lakes, as well as the nomad nature of the people. As Nuri traveled, he encountered many more locals upon the roads, most whom were traveling without a home and he spent his nights sharing a camp. The stories and the food they shared was fascinating.

The other men of the party joked around with the Windlings, but still kept away from them. It was only Eidan and Nuri who joined them more often than not. Eidan, because he followed Nuri around like a lost perzi, and Nuri because he was quite curious about the culture of the nomads.

It obviously was for research, and not because these people shared the same history as a certain dancer back home.

One night, a few of the nomads spoke of a dark raptrix who was abandoned near the mountains. There was no solid reason as to why, but many were suspicious that the owner might have lost their life during the war a few years prior. The beast was friendly, and was often fed by travelers, but was scruff and wild as well.

"You think it was abandoned? How can you tell?" Nuri asked one of the travelers, realizing that the raptrix was one of those beasts he wanted to tame and train for the army. If he could tame one of beasts, it would only add to his reputation and the success for his mission. Add in the fact that he might tame a creature that was abandoned, and he really didn't feel that much guilt.

"No raptrix is that friendly, and it is always sticking around the same area. Plus, it doesn't seem like it can hunt on its own..."

"Or maybe it's smart enough to take advantage of the nomad's hospitality..." Eidan joked, shrugging off the scoffs from the men around him.

Nuri took the detour to the north, where the last reported sighting of the dark raptrix was. His companions were content to travel to another camp, trusting Nuri to meet up with them at the designated location in a few days. And so, he made his way to the base of the mountain with the foods the beast preferred and his whip, ready and determined to capture the large beats of Zena that was far from home.

As Nuri found himself in the camp to the south of the mountains, he ran into some younglings that were more than willing to describe the raptrix. They claimed it was once a great war beast, now relaxed and content with lounging outside of the camp. Like most raptrix, it had fluffy fur and feathers, the color of the night with golden markings atop its body. It had yellow armor and claws, although none had seen it ever use them.

It sounded interesting enough, and Nuri enjoyed asking questions about the traits of the creature overall. The children said that most raptrix were good companions, and it was easy to ride atop one between the great wings. It seemed that the raptrix was another option for the people of the north to face off against the birds of Tale. For one to be so far from home, and still functioning after two years, was a feat in itself.

After deliberation, Nuri determined he would simply go toward the last sighting without any need of a net. If the creature really was tamed at one point, he would hopefully have little trouble in resolving the capture. Add in the food he brought with him, he might actually have the animal eating out of the palm of his hand without any issues. Either that or he'd be dealing with a rabid beast, but considering the children were able to feed it, there was not much of a concern.

As Nuri approached the clearing, he was surprised to see the beast lounging out in the sun. The raptrix lifted its head, before shaking its body and moving to stand. For a long second, Nuri was at awe as he watched the beast stretch its wings out long, revealing the golden markings over deep, dark feathers. It was easy to be impressed, and Nuri resisted the urge to walk up and just pet the large beast.

Instead, he pulled out the meat and tossed it toward the raptrix, who gradually stepped up and began to eat the food with little a care of what was going on around it. Nuri took advantage to get closer, watching the body language of the beast to see if it became tensed or uncomfortable. The wings were relaxed, the tail drifting back and forth, and the head focused on the food. Once the food was gone, the beast looked up with wide eyes as if requesting for more.

Nuri was a bit surprised, and so he took out more food and held it in front of him. The raptrix paused for one moment, before moving and taking the food out of his hand with little care. Nuri took a chance, waiting for it to finish eating, and began to brush his fingers across the raptrix's side. He watched the beast carefully, but it seemed content and more curious about food than his hands.

When Nuri was able to fully scratch the creature's head, he knew that he had a shot and gently placed a leash around its neck. He softly explained he would provide for the creature, and it seemed keen enough to follow as he walked back. It may have helped that Nuri occasionally pulled out some more meat, but otherwise the raptrix was content and keen. The easy taming wasn't something Nuri was secure with, however, as he had to take some time to learn about the creature and adjust any bad habits. For now, he had a nice beast that would help with the travels through the snow, and that was all that mattered.

As the group neared the northern section of Sauti, Nuri knew they needed to find a place to purchase some warmer clothing. Zena was known for its unrelenting cold, and Nuri refused to wait until they were knee deep in snow before getting a warmer cloak. It seemed his companions agreed as well, as all were eager to take a side path to the closest settlement. Odds were, the chill in the air was that last push to get them moving along.

As Nuri led the way, his mass of familiars following him, he approached the settlement with caution. Having a frightfully large janarim, a lumbering limbara, a fluffed raptrix, and a shivering kinfa made him quite the sight, and the fact that his party also had an arrangement of familiars was beginning to really catch the eye of the locals. However, they needed to tolerate such attention if they wanted to get some goods and survive their trip, and so Nuri kept his head held high and ignored the stares.

The others wandered to the local stable, hunting for some furs for their familiars that were less inclined to the weather. Nuri, instead, went to the marketplace, which seemed to be quite bustling for a smaller sized settlement.

As a normal patron of the markets back in Oba, Nuri was aware of the expectations. It would take a bit more bartering on his part if he wanted to swap out his items for the furs. Hopefully furs here would be lower value considering almost everyone had it, and to barter a set would be a piece of cake.

Nuri passed trinkets and weapons, not as interested in the cries of the merchants as he moved. It seemed as if there were a lot of younger faces, mostly a mix of all races, all looking to get in on the action and make a good deal or a good bit of silver.

"The best wares this side of the mountains! I've got them here at the best of prices!"

"Come one, come all, here you will find the sharpest of swords, made from the hottest of forges. You can't find a better blade anywhere but here!"

"We've got leather imported from Matori, thick as a snapptrotter and sturdy to boot. If you want some protective armor, here is the best bet for you!"

Colors, sights, and smells. It was all so loud and overwhelming for such a small area, and more than once Nuri found himself distracted by the calls of the merchants. It felt like the market days in Sulburi he attended with his mother back when he was a youngling. The entire feeling of seeing the world for the first time, it all came back to him as he walked along.

Finally, he found the vendor he was looking for, a portly woman who seemed seasoned and worn. She was a hybrid, from the looks of it, and appeared to be a mix of the Wind and Ice tribes. It was a mix Nuri was growing used to the further he traveled north, as the two tribes intermingled much like the Obans and Matori did. Only they were much more open with such relationships.

"Traveler...there is no way you will make it through the snow in those clothes. Come, come, I've got quite the collection of furs to protect you from the winds of Chi."

Nuri schooled his face as he approached, his fingers reaching out to brush the thick fur coats as his hand reached into his pouch. He had a few coin, but odds were he'd need to barter a bit more. Behind him, only his raptrix remained; both his janarim and limbara were well to the side and away from the crowd. Nuri had no fear, for Naraka would do well to keep the larger beast in line.

"It's true, I plan on heading to the mountains up north. I know enough of the area to expect a need for furs and boots...and I do plan on climbing a mountain so something to cover as much skin as possible is also ideal..."

He could practically see her eyes light up when she realized just what he needed, and he was curious to see how unreasonable she would be. It seemed this would be a bit more difficult than planned. Digging through his pack, he pulled out a gold buckle, one that needed repairs if he wanted to use it in the future. As he slid it across the counter the woman's eyes lit up, and she all but shoved the furs he needed into his arms.

Nodding, Nuri thanked her and examined the items...a cloak, some thicker pants, gloves and a scarf. Add in the hat and he should be well stocked for the trip ahead.
