Barter and Haggle
Prompt 2

Can be used toward Solo or RP req

Lately, the local market places have been filled with new traders offering their wares. It seem as if many across the land are trying their hand at selling clothing, weapons, and trinkets. With so many new faces, now is the best time to go to the market and barter for the best prices.

So go ahead and grab your goods or grab your gold and take a shot at bartering.

This prompt can be played from either side: your character can be the merchant, or can be looking to purchase an item. Groups can RP with both characters on the same side, or trying to barter with each other.

|| You can also use this opportunity to test out the new Item Crafting system!
|| If you use an item that you have successfully crafted with the new system (you do not need to have customized the item) as the item in your prompt, you will earn 15exp in addition to the versatile point. Please provide a link to the crafting thread in your character's first post.
|| If you choose to craft an item for the event, the attempt must have been done after the prompt opened (February 8th), and all requirements must be complete for it to count.
|| As always, the crafting system is intended for stage 2+. Younglings and prentices will not be able to try for the extra exp.
|| If you choose not to use a crafted item, you will only receive the versatile point credit.

As the group neared the northern section of Sauti, Nuri knew they needed to find a place to purchase some warmer clothing. Zena was known for its unrelenting cold, and Nuri refused to wait until they were knee deep in snow before getting a warmer cloak. It seemed his companions agreed as well, as all were eager to take a side path to the closest settlement. Odds were, the chill in the air was that last push to get them moving along.

As Nuri led the way, his mass of familiars following him, he approached the settlement with caution. Having a frightfully large janarim, a lumbering limbara, a fluffed raptrix, and a shivering kinfa made him quite the sight, and the fact that his party also had an arrangement of familiars was beginning to really catch the eye of the locals. However, they needed to tolerate such attention if they wanted to get some goods and survive their trip, and so Nuri kept his head held high and ignored the stares.

The others wandered to the local stable, hunting for some furs for their familiars that were less inclined to the weather. Nuri, instead, went to the marketplace, which seemed to be quite bustling for a smaller sized settlement.

As a normal patron of the markets back in Oba, Nuri was aware of the expectations. It would take a bit more bartering on his part if he wanted to swap out his items for the furs. Hopefully furs here would be lower value considering almost everyone had it, and to barter a set would be a piece of cake.

Nuri passed trinkets and weapons, not as interested in the cries of the merchants as he moved. It seemed as if there were a lot of younger faces, mostly a mix of all races, all looking to get in on the action and make a good deal or a good bit of silver.

"The best wares this side of the mountains! I've got them here at the best of prices!"

"Come one, come all, here you will find the sharpest of swords, made from the hottest of forges. You can't find a better blade anywhere but here!"

"We've got leather imported from Matori, thick as a snapptrotter and sturdy to boot. If you want some protective armor, here is the best bet for you!"

Colors, sights, and smells. It was all so loud and overwhelming for such a small area, and more than once Nuri found himself distracted by the calls of the merchants. It felt like the market days in Sulburi he attended with his mother back when he was a youngling. The entire feeling of seeing the world for the first time, it all came back to him as he walked along.

Finally, he found the vendor he was looking for, a portly woman who seemed seasoned and worn. She was a hybrid, from the looks of it, and appeared to be a mix of the Wind and Ice tribes. It was a mix Nuri was growing used to the further he traveled north, as the two tribes intermingled much like the Obans and Matori did. Only they were much more open with such relationships.

"Traveler...there is no way you will make it through the snow in those clothes. Come, come, I've got quite the collection of furs to protect you from the winds of Chi."

Nuri schooled his face as he approached, his fingers reaching out to brush the thick fur coats as his hand reached into his pouch. He had a few coin, but odds were he'd need to barter a bit more. Behind him, only his raptrix remained; both his janarim and limbara were well to the side and away from the crowd. Nuri had no fear, for Naraka would do well to keep the larger beast in line.

"It's true, I plan on heading to the mountains up north. I know enough of the area to expect a need for furs and boots...and I do plan on climbing a mountain so something to cover as much skin as possible is also ideal..."

He could practically see her eyes light up when she realized just what he needed, and he was curious to see how unreasonable she would be. It seemed this would be a bit more difficult than planned. Digging through his pack, he pulled out a gold buckle, one that needed repairs if he wanted to use it in the future. As he slid it across the counter the woman's eyes lit up, and she all but shoved the furs he needed into his arms.

Nodding, Nuri thanked her and examined the items...a cloak, some thicker pants, gloves and a scarf. Add in the hat and he should be well stocked for the trip ahead.
