Transcendent Eternal Sailor Anser

Arm wrestling.

This was exciting! She felt a thrill down her spine at getting to best her senshi and knight fellows. Her body felt like it was electric as she finally heard her name added to the list of competitors this round, and she rolled her neck and cracked her fingers as if to prepare herself. Would her opponent be ready?

Well, she hoped not. Anser knew she was strong, but she hoped that he wouldn't be stronger, ya know? Not that his form was giving the obvious visage of strength, but she knew being a senshi or a knight was a bit of an illusion that way. Anser, back when she was a chibi, was considerably stronger than she looked.

Now?

Well, Raina had a similar build to her brother, and that had only held benefits for her in the long term.

As she leaned in toward Erytheia, arm at the ready, she chirped, "Anser of Geese! I love these things. Ya ready?"

Just for good measure, she flexed a bit as a friendly taunt, wriggled her fingers, and leaned in for a wrestle.

Transcendent Eternal Sailor Encke

Getting a good laugh with a friend was a bit of an energizer before heading into the next round.

It was unfortunate this wasn't necessarily someone he could have that kind of friendly laugh with. Eternal Sailor Myrrha didn't ring any bells for him, but she sure straightened out and wore a confident expression, even offering her hand. Encke matched that, of course, reaching back out to her left hand with his own to give it a shake that was as confident as it was due to his actor's background.

"Pleasure to meet you too, Myrrha! I would introduce myself, but you already know my name," his smile was more confident than he felt in most things, these days, but perhaps tapping into that old charisma wouldn't be so hard. She was another person who he could add to the expanding web of connections he seemed to weave. "Out of curiosity, what's your magic? Not easy to tell from your outfit."

Maybe before prying, he should add, "Plasma is mine. Usually makes the searing colouration obvious."

That was capped with a laugh as he grasped Myrrha's hand. The wrestle between them was considerably closer than it had been with Kerberos, but as they wrestled, he started to get the advantage until he pushed her arm onto the table.

"Good fight!"

Dering, Squire of Lysithea

Dering’s face was still warm; he was still doubting if he should have tried harder, or less hard, or–should he have forfeited, or…?

He was overthinking things as he settled himself across from Perdita. He returned her smile, even if it was clearly a bit forced. It wasn’t her fault, she seemed nice. It was just that there were so many people here, and he’d very much overestimated his confidence in this. But, he was here, and he wasn’t going to flake. His stomach was churning and he crossed his ankles as he tried to get comfortable.

“It’s nice to meet you,” he said earnestly, mimicking her posture and taking her hand. “I’m Dering.” But she probably knew that, too. “Does your friend know a lot of Lysithea Knights? I feel like I’ve hardly met many Knights at all.”

Oh, but there were a lot here, now. And he could see Reims just over her shoulder so he wasn’t totally alone here. There were a lot of names he didn’t recognize, and there was no way he could have guessed what planet most of the Knights belonged to.

Ah, he was getting distracted again. They were supposed to be arm wrestling, but it was hard to focus when it felt like everyone was watching them–even if other matches were going on, too. He knew it was all in his head, but he still couldn’t shake his nervousness.

Beira, Super Senshi of Loneliness

Beira had been standing off to the side, watching the others compete. His hands felt itchy, and a part of him wondered if this was too much, if he’d pushed himself too far out of his comfort zone. As Beira, he felt like he had a strength that Ilya did not, but he knew that mentally there were still things that could paralyze him in either form.

He’d shaken hands before, he’d worked up a sweat. On bad days, he’d have much rather preferred to keep to himself, but with all the merriment and spirit of sportsmanship in the air, he didn’t even find himself dreading the thought of getting so close to another person.

When Irkalla found her spot, Beira was short behind her.

“Hello,” he greeted, and flashed a quick smile. “I’m Beira, it’s nice to meet you. Irkalla?” he asked, testing the name. “Your uniform is lovely. I’ve met a few Cosmos Knights in my time, the universe seems keen to make sure you’re all fashionable. Good luck,” he said, and genuinely meant it.

It wasn’t about winning or losing, it was about doing your best–and they’d both made it out here, so that was already a good start.

When they were both ready, he gripped her hand in his and gave it his best effort.

Belmont, Squire of Jupiter

“Ah, thanks,” Belmont laughed. “She was good, though. If you get the chance to shake her hand, you’ll see.”

He took his seat across from Kaifeng and held his arm up. In hindsight, maybe he should have tried to use his other arm; he knew he was testing his limits, but that was what he was here for, right? The stone surface of their table wasn’t doing him any favors but he was sure this wasn’t going to be too much.

Hubris came at a cost, though.

He held out for as long as he could, and at first he felt pretty confident. Not that he wanted to judge by appearances, but Kaifeng didn’t seem like he was hiding much muscle underneath that outfit. He was tall, but he had a delicate look to him. Young, but not fragile.

He wasn’t sure when he first felt the sensation of needles in his elbow, but he suspected it was just the wrong pressure at the wrong angle against the table. His grip weakened briefly; the sharp sting faded into a dull ache, but then a sharp burn flared from his middle finger to his shoulder.

No, he was done.

“Kaifeng, right? I’m gonna have to tap out.” He spoke through gritted teeth but was trying to relax his muscles–not so quickly that his arm would snap back if he just gave up, but enough that Kaifeng would understand he wasn't playing dirty. “Don’t slam my hand down, but you’ve got this one. You’re stronger than you look, what’s your secret?”

Kaifeng, Squire of Saturn

Noticing the genuine pain his opponent was in, Kaifeng didn’t consider for a second that it might have been a ploy when Belmont started relaxing. They’d already agreed to do their best, and sure, he’d only just met Belmont? But Belmont had been putting in a solid effort, and he so far seemed like a very forthright guy who probably (Kaifeng wanted to hope) wouldn’t resort to tricks like that in order to win. Nodding in understanding, Kaifeng didn’t per se go easy on Belmont’s arm, but he tried to make the landing as gentle as possible.

“You did give me a good challenge, even if you had to tap out,” he told Belmont, and hoped that it might be somewhat reassuring. “As for my secret?” He shrugged. “My best friend isn’t really in the magical life himself? But his introduction to it was finding out that I’d almost fallen into a death-trap at my Wonder and then gotten stabbed by a Negaverse General. So, he’s been pretty proactive about helping me with strength-training.…… Also? You see him, over there? The really tall senshi with the antlers and the lemon-lime hair?”

Kaifeng leaned across the table a bit, grinning conspiratorially and gesturing toward where Helene had his own match going with some different, distinctly more human-looking green-haired senshi (Ametkhan). Glancing back to Belmont, Kaifeng explained, “My partner and I do a lot of gym time together. He’s great for helping me focus and providing motivation.”

He frowned sympathetically, though, as he looked at Belmont’s arm. “Are you gonna be okay? I keep a first-aid kid in my subspace, if you need a wrap or some ibuprofen?”

Eternal Myrrha

Myrrha had put in the effort to go all out to win, but it wasn't meant to be as her arm was slowly forced down to tap against the table. It had been a close fight. She straightened out, shook out her fighting arm before remembering that Encke had asked a question before they had started their match. Her gaze went down to her fuku before she chuckled.

"Yeah, this design gives no interpretation at all to what I'm the senshi of but I think I like it that way. Means there's just that much more surprise when I unleash my magic on the enemy," here Myrrha leaned in, getting physically closer to Encke before she whispered her sphere into his ear, "it's Eternal Myrrha of Scents."

Moving out of the lean Myrrha flashed Encke another smile before she shook out her arm again, "well, congratulations on your win Encke of Plasma," her words were genuine as she gave the clearing around them a considerate look. "I might just have to join the spectators now to cheer you on.

Super Sailor Daphne

There was someone who Daphne knew who had never lost a fight, and Daphne was determined to change that. She wasn't there yet, though. She wasn't strong enough.

Something like this seemed like good practice.

Her pupils were thin, focused slits as she sat down across from her opponent. Constantinople looked close enough to her age and close to her build. A passing thought floated across Daphne's head that her clothes would have almost fit in on her world. Not quite, but it was closer than any of the other senshi and knights that she'd seen save maybe Adria.

She wasn't here to talk about that, though. She was too distracted by the sport of it.

"Hello," was all she said, and then her arm was already on the table.

Antisana vs Vela

Vela wasn't really sure what she was doing here, arm wrestling didn't seem like her style at all, it seemed silly really. Oh well she was ready to give it her all and it wasn't all about strength anyway it was about leverage. If she could just get that she could win her match. She looked the one she was fighting in the eye and tried to judge if they had any weakness or doubt that she could use to get the upper hand in this task. She wasn't quiet sure what all this was about but it could be fun.

Page Almere

Almere had lost her match, which she maybe could have seen coming considering that she had been up against someone who looked like an ancient warrior, with the muscles to match.

That was okay, though, because now she could go see what was going on with her friends. She got to giggle as she watched her cousin lose his match to a girl in a cute cat senshi outfit. It wasn't that she wanted to see him lose, exactly, but he could probably use some reminder that girls were strong, and also the best.

That meant that it was time to find Mechelen, who was still in the middle of her match.

"Come on," she told her. "Halle just got his butt kicked! This is your chance! Show him you're better!"

Knight Nectaris

Tanais had called her Heartbreaker, and winked at her, and Nectaris had started blushing and kinda forgotten what her arm was doing for a second. When she remembered, her hand was on the table.

Oops. So much for defending her title of being all strong and stuff!

It was okay, though. Nectaris hopped up from the log, not seeming too upset. "You got me!" she said, "I guess you're just that cool!" She didn't go to far from Tanais, though, figuring she could cheer for the other woman.

Then she saw who Tanais was up against, and everything got a lot more complicate. Ganymede.

How was she supposed to choose between cheering for the pretty, strong stranger who had just winked at her and the literal princess who she'd given up a lot to save, the one who had helped her get purified in turn? Ganymede finally looked almost happy, and she didn't want to mess that up if she ended up losing or whatever, but on the other hand, Tanais was really cool and also deserved to win!

"You got this!" she said, kind of generically to both of them. "You're doing awesome!"

Yeah! See? She wasn't picking sides!

Chibi Zero

Space eluded her. Even with her own world that she was s’posed to be able to go see whenever she wanted, it made her daddies too scared to let her visit her planet because “there could be anything there!” Zero didn’t think ‘anything’ could be all that scary… But she was a good girl and wouldn’t do what her parents didn’t want her to do.

That just made this time on this planet a special treat, and she’d hafta do everything she could here! Zero climbed up onto the log at her station, ready to face whatever muscly opponent the Princess lady put before her. Her mouth popped open in a little ‘o’ of surprise as she saw another girl sitting across from her. Like her! Another chibi senshi! She’d never met another chibi senshi.

“Your daddies let you come to the Princess’ world too?” Zero asked, smiling widely. “I had to bring my kitty, or I couldn’t come.” Where was Miros’ chunky butt, anyway?

Reims, Page of Ganymede vs. Sailor Zenobia

Reims blinked once. Twice. And then glanced around the room to see if someone was trying to set him up. This wasn’t fair! Why was he being paired up with a kid??

This was either going to be super embarrassing or he was going to be harassed for being too hard on a little girl.

“You signed up for this, didn’t you? You knew there’d be a lot of older kids and adults doing this too,” he pointed out, even if he was uncomfortable by it. Why couldn’t there have been an age limit or at least have a little kid part of the tournament. She wasn’t even the only little kid participating!

He huffed and reached out to take hold of her hand. He would just have to get this over with.

He thought about just letting her win, but that wouldn’t really be fair to him or her if he didn’t give it his all. Maybe if she cried about it they would make a separate set of games for little kids next time.

He felt bad about it, but he was a baseball player and was like twice her size, and about twice her assumed age.

“You’ve got a pretty strong grip. I bet you’d win the whole thing in a year or two,” he nodded to her since she was pretty strong for a kid. He even had to shake out his hand after the match.

Sailor Chibi Eupheme vs Ngome

“Oh wow I love your hair! It’s so pretty! Oh my gosh I want my hair like that,” she gasped and practically jumped up and down, which made her shoes light up with each step. Oh, but she was supposed to be arm wrestling this beautiful person, and that was perfectly okay with her, even if she ended up losing. She just wanted to have fun!

“Hi, I’m Eupheme! Pronouns she her. It’s very nice to meet you! You’re a uh… hold on…. Pointy horn-- oh! Lysithea! I made flashcards of all the known knight symbols so I can make sure I can recognize them. That’s pretty awesome being a knight! My da-- uh…” she stopped and grimaced. “My uh, I know some knights. I’m not supposed to talk about who, though. It’s a safety risk,” she nodded sagely.

“Okay, I’m ready when you are!” she chirped and reached out to hold onto this beautiful person’s hand.

She pushed with all her might and--

“You went easy on me didn’t you?” she pouted when she managed to get their hand on the table, but she smiled soon after. “Okay, then I’ll try my hardest to win my other matches too. Then that is kinda like you winning as well, right? Thank you! This was a lot of fun!”

Super Sailor Perdita

“I don’t know if he’s ever actually met a Lysithea knight,” Perdita said. In her attempt to remember, she was distracted enough not to put her full strength into the match, which left them at a temporary stalemate. “But he knows someone who knows Lysithea, and she made sure to tell him what the symbol looked like so we’d know if we ever saw one. To be honest, I haven’t met very many knights either. Then again, I could say the same for senshi.”

Perdita knew she should have been trying harder to help with the war. She did what she could when she could, but she was never satisfied that it was enough.

She wouldn’t burden Dering with those thoughts. Perdita refocused on the match as soon as she banished them, putting a bit more strength into it—enough that she successfully pushed Dering’s arm down. (Gently. She didn’t want to hurt him.)

(Not that she thought she could, but she also couldn’t help being concerned.)

“Sorry,” she said with a rueful smile. “You did really well.”
