Lia looked frustrated as Leo insisted on reminding her that he couldn't listen to hearts like she could. It was just as frustrating for her as it was for him, not to be able to help him understand what she knew, what she heard. ".....You're wrong.... I'm sorry, but you're wrong." She insisted, teary eyed as Leo stubbornly said he wouldn't find anything worth listening to. "I know you can't hear them normally but.... It's just so loud Leo.... His heart is screaming with so much pain and sadness... I don't know how he can hold it all inside and look so calm and composed. Even if without my ability, I'm sure others can sense it if they tried, even you. If you can't see it, then.... I-It's just because you don't want to....!" Warm tears fell down her cheeks. She didn't want to accuse her brother of such things, but she was just so upset. Lia could hear him too, after all. He didn't want to care about humans, he believed they were all horrible people, even though he knew they weren't all bad. He didn't even want to consider that maybe Lia was right and Vince was an exception.
Still, as Leo moved to leave her to try and clear his head, Lia quickly came running after him and apologizing. She felt a bit better as he hugged her back and apologized for upsetting her. He was still set in his thoughts about humans, but Lia was used to it, even if she didn't like it. "....I know you don't like it, but can't just... Not do anything.... I have to help him... Or at least try. Please understand..." She said softly.

Vince grinned an uncharacteristically mischievous grin as Olivia asked if he'd wear such lazy attire to his first contest. One might think that this wasn't really Vince, and that he'd been an imposter zoroark. However, he was only thinking the same thing as Olivia, how Lance would have thrown that much bigger of a tantrum if he didn't take his costume seriously. "Perhaps, though to be fair that's only because for a time we entertained the idea of me going shirtless. A t-shirt would be much easier to tear off in that case." He suggested with a surprisingly charming grin.
For all his potentially flirtatious remarks, Vince was easily flustered himself when called out on it by Olivia suggesting that a picnic dinner sounded romantic. He backpedaled a bit, but couldn't quite get a coherent sentence together. Olivia pat his shoulder—probably out of sympathy—and reassured him that she'd been kidding. Vince cleared his throat and nodded, recomposing himself, but.... Why did he still feel an odd lingering disappointment....?
He didn't have time to dwell on it long as they encountered Ducky and Wei. The former and Olivia gushed over how well Olivia was caring for Vince, and Vince had to feel mildly offended. He knew it was all in good humor, but honestly! Honestly! Vince sulked. Even as Ducky conceded that he knew they weren't together romantically, he still thanked Olivia for bearing to travel with him as if he were completely unappealing to be around. "If you two are quite finished bruising my ego--" Vince insisted with a light huff, but as Olivia started defending him from Ducky's assertions, he felt a little better.
They changed venues, moving to the banquet hall for some food, drink, and quiet. Vince felt a bit guilty as Wei mimicked him, ordering a beer that she very clearly didn't like. He doubted she'd ever even drank alcohol before, especially since she was Ducky's "little" sister. Vince was about to suggest something else non-alcoholic for her, but surprisingly, Ducky already had it handled, getting her a virgin shirley temple like a responsible older brother. Vince was impressed and surprised. So Ducky could be responsible if he wanted to be. Noted.
Not letting the beer go to waste, Ducky quickly toasted to the new year. "Gān bēi...." Vince gave his half-hearted toast and downed his half-a-bottle with it, momentarily forgetting his promise to Olivia in favor of keeping with tradition. Beer like this wasn't nearly as strong as the wine he was drinking earlier anyways. The only side effect was the dizzying feeling he got when he chugged it so quickly, but the feeling soon cleared as he ordered another, looking a little lost in thought. Friends making new friends, huh....? He frowned at the thought. If only that were true.
Ducky then inquired as to how he and Olivia had met, and Olivia obliged while Vince himself quietly recalled their first encounter. He agreed with the sentiment that while they'd only really met maybe a few weeks ago, though it felt like years, and he caught the fact that she neglected to mention their time in the distortion world. Though it wasn't necessary to mention and Vince himself wasn't going to bring it up, he did feel like that experience had been what cemented their.... Companionship. If they had simply gone to Viola's gym and challenged her together, they surely would have gone their own ways afterwards as mere acquaintances. But.....
Vince saw it again. The danger they faced together, how they took care of each other, how they'd struggled to feel so helpless to save that group from the rampaging giratina.... Taking shelter in the abandoned house, cooking together, fighting over stupid things like sleeping arrangements only to end up falling asleep together anyways.... A small and distant smile crossed his face. As terrifying and unusual as the experience had been, he was glad it happened. Something about sharing that experience had kept them traveling together, or at least it had prevented Vince from wanting to go off on his own again after fighting Viola as he probably would have done. Maybe Ducky wasn't that far off base in his assumption that Vince was more the lone wolf, cave dwelling type. He was better off alone. That's what he thought, at least. He.... He still thought that. He couldn't forget. "Something like that...." Vince murmured as Olivia suggested that he and Ducky had known each other for a while. "Yeah. We're neighbors. I've known him since we were what, five...?" Vince glanced to Ducky with a quirk of his brow for confirmation. "I spent a lot of time training at his family dojo, so I'm well acquainted with them." He hoped that Ducky would just leave it at that and not tell any embarrassing and unnecessary stories. Still, Olivia questioned him quizzically about other things, like if Ducky spoke any Chinese. Vince didn't know the answer to that one, but it seemed harmless enough and made sense to ask out of curiosity given that they had lived together. He'd heard Ducky say a few things in Chinese before, certainly, but didn't know how much he really pursued it.
He was more eager to turn the attention to Wei, just as curious as Olivia to hear more about her life. "Yes, where is this temple? Is it open to the public? I should like to visit some time, perhaps." Vince agreed. He gave Olivia a curious look as she ordered water for herself. "Who are you and what have you done with the girl I took to the renaissance fair?" Vince chuckled. Given how excited she was to go drinking with him then, it seemed odd that now she was sticking to her water. Not that he objected, but it was just interesting.

The conversation, while still poking fun at Vince, started to dwindle more on his and Olive's relationship. Wei was listening as best she could, but in situations like this, and the environment they were in it was hard to really get into the conversation. She simply continued to listen as best she could.
After her fowl experience with the beer, Ducky came to her rescue so to speak and ordered something called a Virgin Shirley Temple? Was that some sort of temple she'd never heard of... she knew the word Virgin, but what did that have to do with drinks? Still, she decided to accept Ducky's order and sipped at the drink lightly. The fizz from the drink tickled her nose, making her pull the glass away and rub her nose lightly. She'd never experienced soda or... well fizz of any kind before. Looking up from her thoughts, she caught Ducky and Vince in their toast. Was that... Chinese? Vince spoke Chinese? Among all her excitement about traveling and leaving the temple, then coming to this ball... she'd utterly forgot what time of the year it was. Though she was a bit late she held up her glass with a smile. "Dào gǒu de niánfèn."
Sipping her drink once more, the fizz still ticked her nose, but it wasn't as bad as the first time. The sweetness of the drink was nice, she'd drank fruit juice before, but this was something otherworldly. They boys would love to try it, and unlike the beer it didn't have a fowl taste or smell. Ducky then inquired about how Vince and Olive had met, to which Wei was now fully capable of listening to. They were to challenge a gym? So they were trainers? Much like herself. Curiosity welled up in her mind, many questions began to build up, but she figured her time for question asking would come in due time. Instead the conversation shifted, and the attention was on how Vince and Ducky knew one another. They had grown up as neighbors. Wei's gaze was on ducky for the most part. His... their family owned a Dojo? What did they teach at this Dojo, was it like what Tai Yang taught them?
Suddenly, a question was then brought to Wei. She smiled kindly, turning her attention to Vince and Olive. Both seemed interested in her upbringing now. Well, it was about time she spoke up wasn't it? "Yes, I did grow up at a Temple. It's located high atop a mountain in the north western range of a small region in China." Wei explained. "It is open to the public. Though we never get visitors. Only a small town rests at the bottom of the mountain and the villagers don't visit. You can fly there by ways of a Pokemon, but... well, you'd be more welcomed if you took the challenge of climbing the 5,ooo steps of Lugia." She added, sipping once more at her drink. Looking past Vince to Olive. "Growing up there... it was... I can't really say, what word would I use here? I have nothing to compare how I grew up to other ways. I would wake up every morning before the sun. I helped An with his garden, prepared breakfast, then came morning chores, cleaning and such. I then went to classes with the other charges of the temple... Oh, I should say, the Temple is... an orphanage of sorts. most... well, all of the current charges have no family." She paused for a moment to take in a deep breath then release it. "After classes we train with Tai Yang. We all then get an hour of free time to do as we wish, I generally helped prepare dinner. After dinner it was time to study before finally going to bed." A typical day at the temple.

Despite their childish argument, the two sisters couldn't stay angry at one another. Especially after Lucina's compliments. "Thank you, Lucina." Fen replied. Lan se nodded as well in agreement. Even if Lan se was under the impression, that despite how a-like she looked to her sister, she was going to end up being the ugly one in the end. Lan se had a bit of pessimism to get past. Fen pulled her sister in close, wrapping an arm around Lan se's. She looked over, sensing here sister knew what she was feeling. "We certainly hope that is true." Lan se muttered at last.

As much fun as it had been to 'bruise' Vinny's ego, as he had put it, Ducky opted to turn away from that conversation, even as Olive had defended Vince's choices regarding relationships. Ducky was surprised - and kind of sour - to hear Olive say that Vince had been fun to be around. Funny how he never got to experience any of that from Vince for himself, it seemed. And he knew him longer! It was frustrating, but the suanni shoved aside the feelings to make a toast, chugging down the beer that he had taken from Wei. His sister brought up in chinese how it was the year of the dog. He wondered if that meant the Yazi clan should be coming into great fortune this year. "Heh, that's right. To the year of the dog! Kanpai~" Ducky smiled, shooting Vince a look before downing his cup of sake. Rice wine wasn't meant to be drank as a shooter, especially with how much stronger it was than beer. If his family saw him do this, he would have likely been chided for it. Maybe he should offer Vinny some sake? Though, that would be awkward, since Wei was between them... Thankfully, the bartender had enough sense to refill his cup, so that he wouldn't be breaking too many customs regarding sake drinking.
Ducky took a sip of his sake as he listened to Olive's reply to his question. So, they had only known each other for a few weeks. That bitter feeling swelled up in him again at that knowledge. Was he just really that horrible according to Vince? "Interesting~ I would have thought Vinny would start off in Kanto. It's nice that you are able to enjoy each other's company." he commented, once again shoving aside his true feelings. Or at least trying to. Olive turned the question to Ducky, asking how he knew Vince and where he was from. Vince started answering before he did, and Dakota resigned to hiding his frown by sipping his sake. 'Neighbor'. While true, it stung. Dakota had considered himself friends with Vince ever since they were 5 years old. Yet here they were, over a decade later, and Vince still would not call him a friend. "Heh... yeah..." he mumbled against his cup, disheartened by Vince's response but trying to hide it with a light chuckle and smile.
The curious pinkette then asked a question that surprised Ducky, piquing his interest. She wanted to know if he spoke Chinese. "I sure do! I'm only fluent in Japanese and English, but i know a whole lot of Chinese. Though, I feel I understand it better than I speak it. Heh, I remember I started learning because i wanted to impress Vinny when we were kids." Ducky replied, a more genuine smile appearing as he recalled the reasoning for him to start learning Chinese. Though, the only reason he continued to learn Chinese was due to Jian, since Vinny had reacted badly when he found out the reason. A small sigh escaped his lips
Once Wei was asked about her life at the temple, their attentions were shifted to the blond as she gave quite a detailed answer. Dakota was equally curious about the temple, but couldn't help but wonder what had made his mom choose that temple in particular. She had been rather vague about the reason she had even given up Wei in the first place, but he understood it was to put more space between Wei and Blackthorn. Ducky had been prepared to feel bad for Wei's experience of growing up at the temple, however, it sounded like she really liked the place. "Wow, you were really kept busy there, huh? I bet you've got to be pretty tough just from having done chores and training." Ducky commented with a grin. Maybe she knew some good moves. It would make Mimi-chan so happy to have another person that would be able to teach her and spar with her. "What kind of training have you done, Wei? The family dojo trains in a few different martial arts, as well as fighting hand to hand against fighting type pokemon." He asked Wei, giving her a nugget of information about their dojo.
Lucina was distracted for a bit as she stared at her new travel companion. Even though she had only recently made any connections to the suanni, she felt her heart ache at the emotions that had bubbled up within the man. "Dakota..." she sighed, her hands clutching at her chest. It was really quite sad to sense so much from him; he really could use her help. It only made Lucina more suspicious of Vincent, as the strongest of Dakota's hurt seemed to come in reaction to Vince. The blue haired gardevoir shot a look at her sister as if to convey her concerns, but then looked back to Dakota. Would she be able to help him? She hadn't been successful with Ezra.

Well, at least Nick still did the responsible thing and ate real food even if he did spoil himself first. They ate quietly in comfortable silence before Nick asked if she remembered anything yet. Though Leona felt she hadn't made much progress, Nick seemed just as excited as if she'd been making large strides. She supposed that his positivity and support was nice, even if it made her feel awkward. A light chuckle escaped her as she gently shook her head in amusement. "I suppose you're right." She couldn't deny that they'd only made their way through two towns. Unova was a vast kingdom, as she was well aware. Surely they simply hadn't been to an area she was more familiar with.
"Trained with, Mr. Tucksworth. I've trained with knights. And yes, you are correct. The knights are under oath to the royal family. I was lucky enough to meet with his highness and the princess, but only because my father was in line to become head of the guard."
Nick hadn't been the only one to notice the conversation at the table next to theirs. Leona couldn't help but pick up on the word "knights" being thrown around. They weren't part of that conversation, and Leona hadn't meant to eavesdrop, but this was the first time she'd heard anything remotely close to things she was actually familiar with. Nick looked at her somewhat quizzically, letting her make the decision whether or not to engage. She appreciated that he recognized and respected her situation, but it was clear he seemed hopeful as ever. Closing her eyes, Leona took a small breath before opening them again and standing to make her way over. "Forgive the intrusion, m'lady...." Leona gazed at Temperance, taking in her face and features. She didn't recognize her, but she still seemed familiar somehow. Not by any direct correlation to a memory, but something in her features felt... Similar to something, somehow. Leona couldn't really explain it. "If thee truly worked with knights, then..... Austin kept a kind smile on his face as he reveled in his ridiculous victory of knowing Tamara was hiding something. But then, the realization struck him: Wait a minute,did she say she trained with knights and knew a king or something? As he tried to get a grasp on the concept, Beltigre continued to take advantage and eat the rest of her owner's food. Meanwhile, Tamara had continued onward.
" "If you'd believe me. I'm actually on a secret mission from her highness to find able bodied fighters to come and aid our kingdom from a threat that means to take the now empty throne." Tamara whispered it to Austin in earnest, and from as far he could tell, pure sincerity.
...Susan, read Tam's aura. Is she bullshitting me? Susan glanced up at her Dalpha, then over at Tamara before squinting. Her glowies are all serious and stuff, Dalpha. No poopies here. Austin was afraid of that. He didn't know her very well, but he definitely had a strong feeling that Tamara wasn't a conman like himself. So, she's a recruiter to avenge her dead dad-holy crap, she just told me her dad's dead- and the King of Amarantha- holy s**t, she knows a king!-and she just told me, some dude in a Nancy boy get-up all about it. Austin stood up from the table then, and gave a nod to Tamara. "It seems this woman has an interest in your knights and chivalry, Ms. Stonewall," he said. His Pokemon, now full of food and beverage, were returned (except for Beltigre, who wanted to be carried around). "If you'll excuse me, I need to use the facilities. I won't be but a moment." And with that, he was gonna get outta there in a hurry.
Or, at least that was the plan. Instead, he almost walked into another gentleman who was enjoying some dessert at the table next to them. As a matter of fact, it seemed to have been where the ye olde timey woman came from. "Oh, um, my apologies, sir...wait a moment, aren't you Nikolaus Weiß, the author of The Sport of Crowns series?" he was certain of it; he'd seen Mr. Weiß's photo in the back of that particular book many times, as it was the only other book other than the many coordinator books and magazines he had stashed back in correctional school. Leaning back in her chair, Temperance waited for a look of disbelief from Austin, or some sign that he must think she was crazy or something along those lines, but for a moment there wasn't much said between the two, but the silence didn't stay long as a young woman appeared to Temperance's side. Temperance looked up at the woman, giving her a quick scan. "Oh it's fine." She replied quickly to the woman's apology for intruding. The blonde titled her head some, giving the woman one more look over. The way the woman spoke.. it was as if she'd come from an old book she'd often read for various reasons. But as far as the woman being recognizable, Temperance wasn't sure. Blonde hair, blue eyes.. it was a common thing in Amarantha alone, not to mention the entire world.
Even still, the woman seemed more interested in the knights in which Temperance had only just mentioned. She glanced over to Austin, ready to tell the young woman perhaps they could talk at another time, but then Austin rose and excused himself. 'Well, I suppose that means I'm open now...' The blonde thought. With a smile she returned her gaze to the woman. She asked about the knights of which Temperance spoke. The blonde sipped at her drink for a moment thinking over her memories. Fonder times to be sure. But a thought crossed Temperance's mind. It'd taken nearly all night for her to reveal such information about knights and such to Austin, yet here a young woman comes in and asks in an old tongue for her to reveal more information. "I'm sorry ma'am, but don't you think introductions should come first?" She asked, holding out her hand to shake Leona's hand. "I am Tamara Stonewall, and you?"

This conversation had seen a rise in his temper, something he wasn't used to outright, but once it'd dispersed it'd left Leo feeling strangely... empty, and tired. Enough so that he couldn't muster a physical reaction even as Lia insisted that Vince was some broken soul of pain and anguish hidden behind a carefully-crafted mask. He opened his mouth, but quickly reconsidered his actions and promptly shut his mouth, the conversation had already upset her enough. But, that being said, Lia was right. He didn't want to listen, not to a person who hadn't done much to even make them feel welcome.
After reconciling Leo sighed heavily, and began drying his sister's cheeks, still wet from her tears. "Why do you have to help him?" He questioned, truly baffled. "Out of every human we've come across, why do you want to go out of your way to help him? How is he any different from all the other crying hearts you've heard before?" Even if she asked him to, he couldn't wrap his head around Lia trying to help the person they'd just met.

A very unladylike snort was Olivia's reaction to Vince's statement, and she quickly slapped a hand over her mouth, trying to both muffle the sound and hide the slight blush that had crept up onto her cheeks. This wasn't the first time he'd made the ridiculous suggestion of going shirtless for a contest, but it was the addition of him tearing his shirt away that made the whole idea too much. Olivia cleared her throat carefully, breathed in through her mouth, then dropped her hand down to take a much needed drink of her champagne, turning it into a quick reprieve. "I really do think you should save that for a Tough contest," she quietly suggested, once she'd composed herself. "That whole macho act would really win over the judges." Potentially. Hopefully. If not, at least it would give the audience something to enjoy; Olivia among them.
As much as she enjoyed poking fun at Vince, or 'bruising his ego' as he stated, both Olivia and Ducky were quick to draw that particular conversation to a close. With the former taking it upon herself to playfully nudge Vince's shoulder as they moved from the ball room to the banquet hall, "You know we love you, Vince~" she assured. Once they were seated, and three-fourths of their party had been served, Olivia told the story of how she and Vince had met to a curious Ducky, reliving a few of the memories herself as she did so. Catching sight of Vince's smile, as small as it was, she subtly reached a hand out to squeeze his, sharing his sentiments. "Oh yeah, because he's a dragon tamer?" she hazarded a guess, attention drawing back to Ducky and her hand returning to her side. If Vince didn't want to reveal why he'd chosen to take on the Kalos region, rather than staying in Kanto where he'd received Huang Chen, she wouldn't say. Though, if Ducky and Vince were as familiar with each other as she assumed, she figured he'd already know why.
"Wow. That's a long time," Olivia remarked, surprised at not just the length of time they'd known each other, but the proximity as well. If they were neighbors, it was a wonder they weren't best friends. "I bet you've got a bunch of baby Vince stories you could share, huh Ducky?" she inquired, before shooting a mischievous glance in Vince's direction. A good bit of their relationship was made up of her finding ways to embarrass him, and this was far too fortuitous an opportunity for her to pass up. Just as that thought passed her, another did, its words lost to her but the linger emotion attached to it enough to settle a brief frown onto her features. It was gone as soon as it appeared, however, and Olivia took the moment to breathe out carefully before she smoothed out the hem of her dress. "Aww, that's such a sweet reason~" Jumping back into the conversation, she leaned over to smile at Ducky as he shared his story. "I wish my friends would've tried to learn French." It would’ve been fun, to be able to speak another language with her friends without many to translate it. ”Getting back to the topic, though. Ducky, do you know what yinghua means? I heard it somewhere and I keep meaning to look up its translation, but it slips my mind.”
As quiet as she was, Wei was also a part of their group, and Olivia did her best to try and include her into the conversation. Hearing about her duties back at her home temple however, Ducky took the words out of her mouth. 'Busy' was an understatement, from how Wei spoke it sounded as if she worked a full time job! "You've got quite the work ethic then, Wei," she complimented, truly impressed with just how dedicated she, and the other monks, were to their duties. "I don't know if I could keep up with you. What made you decide to venture out into the world?" Giving time for Wei to answer, as well as for Ducky to ask her a few questions and clue her in on their family -- fighting pokemon? That sounded a lot tougher than the basic training she'd gone through -- Olivia leaned back in her stool and took another drink of her water, this time to sate her thirst rather than quell the slow-rising headache she had. "Hm?" She turned an inquisitive eye to Vince, but broke into an easy smile soon after. "Oh, she's still there," she assured him. "But, these sort of scenes aren't her thing. Besides, I wouldn't want Wei to have to feel like the odd woman out." It was a... hastily pulled together explanation, but it was the first one that'd come to mind. She'd already had that flute of champagne, and though she doubted another drink wouldn't hurt, she needed to be clear headed for her reconnaissance.

"No! Nothing like that!" Leon objected to Isis' suggestion that he and Zero had done some male bonding back in the ruins. He wasn't all that amused by the suggestion, though he did not get aggressive at it either. Even though he knew he should still try to remain on friendly terms with Zero, there were still some things that would continue to bother him.
Right as Isis had started to question her cousins once more, a princely looking male swept Isis off of her feet, and Leon couldn't help but react violently, punching him in the face. He had regretted it immediately after having found that he had punched what seemed to be solid metal. Thankfully, he was pretty sure he hadn't broke anything. That didn't make it hurt any less though, and he withdrew from them a bit, cradling his hand and swearing.
Katsu tilted his head as the blond haired girl explained to him that that wasn't how picking up girls worked. And that she was already spoken for. How odd. The Solgaleo did get a chuckle out of being called 'mr. lion', however. "Katsu! There you are! Come on, let's go find Ducky." The blond illusion turned to look behind him as the long illusioned zoroark called out for him. "Ah, Daiki. You know, I just tried that thing that you told me about." Katsu said, moving towards his fellow pokemon, leaving the new group with a polite bow before rejoining Daiki. They left the scene to look for Ducky, going back inside in a hurry. Daiki very much didn't want to stick around for anyone that might have discovered his trick about leaves.
Leon smiled apologetically as Isis asked him not to swear next to her cousins, but it seemed like the twins had bailed. Not that it mattered much, as Isis quickly fussed over his swollen right hand, causing him to wince a bit. "I guess it should. But... who would ever guess that that was actually a pokemon - a Solgaleo even?" Leon commented lightly, then posed a question as they re-entered the palace to head to the banquet hall for ice.
Once in the banquet hall, it didn't take them long to find some ice. Soon, Leon was holding some ice to his right hand with a sigh. "You look beautiful, by the way, Isis." Leon finally had the chance to appreciate and compliment her gown. Even though this was a formal event, he hadn't expected to see her dressed like this, somehow.

Temperance seemed fine with Leona's interruption, though she insisted that introductions should come before determining whether or not she recognized her. Leona debated giving her full status, but.... Her lack of memory was dangerous and she couldn't just freely and unknowingly give information to the enemy to be deceived, yet she did have to ask if Temperance recognized her at all. Temperance had noticed Austin's escape to the facilities had been interrupted as he'd run into a fetching man, whom he'd seemed to recognize. Temperance on the other hand felt his visage was familiar, but otherwise she had no clue as to whom he was. The woman before her however. But that is impossible... Perhaps she's delusional, to think she'd call herself by that name, and to speak in a tongue like that... even have a Lucario?' "I'm sorry, miss Cardonell, but..." Temperance leaned back in her seat. This woman before her. She didn't seem insane, but perhaps Temperance could fish out information from her, to see how well her knowledge was on the real Leona Cardonal. But first, to answer her inquiries. "Never mind. Well, The knights I trained with come from the kingdom of Amarantha. I'm afraid I don't know if any of their families ever migrated from anywhere outside of Amarantha, let alone Unova. Nikolaus' silent encouragement worked, and Leona approached the blond lady that had been speaking about training with knights. He set his champagne glass down on the table, getting up to follow his companion over for support. However, a younger male bumped into him, seeming to recognize him. "Don't vorry about it!" Nick smiled at the young man. "Ja, I am Nikolaus Veiss. Are you a fan of that series?" he confirmed the other's suspicions, asking if he was a fan. It seemed like the blond was in a rush to leave, however. While disappointing, it didn't bother him too much. "Ah~ Seriously don't vorry about it~ I von't bite! But if you must go, I vish you a vonderful night, Herrlein!" Nick assured the blond, but let him leave regardless. If the blond wanted to go on his merry way, then that was just fine.
While he had been briefly distracted by the blond male that had bumped into him, a waiter had come by and topped up Nick's glass without him noticing. He had managed to catch ear of the woman's introduction, and though the conversation had gotten a bit awkward, to say the least. When she tried to articulate her thoughts and feelings into words, she drew blanks. He was right, she had heard the hurting hearts of others before. They had all been painful, but.... "I don't.... You're my big brother~ No one's ever going to take your place." She insisted, hugging him tightly again.

For all the teasing and ego bruising Vince endured, he knew that none of it was intended to actually hurt him or demean. It was as Olivia said, they did it because they cared for him and knew they could get away with a little joking at his expense. Still, Ducky seemed rather excited by their bond and toasted to them as well as the new year, one Wei surprisingly joined in with a bit of Chinese of her own. Vince gave her a curious and appreciative look at that, before the conversation moved into recalling how he and Olivia had met. Vince's cheeks grew warm as Olivia squeezed his hand as they recalled their meeting and reasons for staying together, though he attributed most of the reaction to the alcohol he'd consumed. He couldn't understand what other reason he'd have for reacting so much to such a subtle, friendly gesture...
Vince chuckled somewhat as Ducky assumed that he would have gone on his journey by starting in Kanto, since, as Olivia correctly assumed, he was a dragon tamer, and all dragon tamers (especially from Blackthorn) seemed to gravitate towards beating Lance. "Well, I certainly thought about it.... I'll certainly take on Kanto eventually, but first I wanted to see yí lǎo lao, and she's in Kalos." Well.... "See" his maternal great aunt wasn't exactly the right word. He wanted to beat her, because if he did, his family would see how far he'd come on his own terms. Then he could shoot for Lance, either in Kanto or Johto's E4.
And then Olivia used his and Ducky's longstanding knowledge of each other to ask for embarrassing childhood stories. "Let's not--" Vince insisted pleadingly, but he knew Ducky wouldn't be able to resist, and while Vince had the urge to flee because of that, he decided it was ultimately better to stay and endure the embarrassment and correct any misinformation, that way he at least would know what Ducky told Olivia and he could argue against it. Still, he was going to need something stronger than beer if he was going to endure this embarrassment, so Vince waved the bartender over. "You wouldn't happen to have some shōchū....?" He muttered, and the sympathetic bartender quickly got the poor man a shot, leaving the bottle by Vince. It was easy to tell he'd want the refills and it was better to just let vince do it himself.
Ducky went on to explain how he had indeed learned Chinese to impress Vinny when they were little, which Olivia found sweet since none of her friends had bothered to learn French for her. "Yeah.... It was a nice gesture...." He agreed quietly. Vince knew he certainly hadn't acted that way when Ducky explained it was all for him, and he felt bad for that, especially after hearing how nice it seemed compared to Olivia's experiences. It was mostly due to how recently it'd been that he learned Ducky was, in fact, not a girl and still felt awkward around him because of all the things he'd done, so he'd over-reacted to Ducky's attempts at friendship forging because he assumed they were something more. This was going to be a long night of regret and embarrassment, so Vince quickly tossed back his shot. Of course Olivia took that exact moment to reveal her true intentions behind asking if Wei or Ducky knew Chinese, and Vince ended up choking and coughing on his shot before he could finish swallowing.
Once he regained his composure, he met Olivia's pointed stare with a stubborn one of his own. "I told you, you misheard me. Why are you bringing it up again???" Vince rubbed his head, shooting Ducky a pleading look. He knew he hadn't been the best person to Ducky over the years, but he really, really needed Ducky to keep quiet about this one. He could endure the embarrassing childhood stories, the teasing, everything, anything but this. Still, Vince felt a sort of impending doom upon him as he quickly tossed back another shot.
Because of his desperation, he also quickly jumped on trying to focus Wei, asking questions about her life. He listened as Wei recounted her daily routine, described what the temple was like, and even though he was mostly just desperate to focus attention off of him, he was genuinely interested in what Wei described. "That sounds like a respectable life." Given that, he too was interested in what made her decide to leave, as Olivia had asked. He also made a mental note to attempt the 5000 steps of lugia.
Still, as Ducky inquired on the kinds of training Wei did before elaborating a bit on their family dojo, Vince couldn't help but notice Olivia choosing water over alcohol. She insisted that she just didn't want Wei to feel alone, and Vince felt that was highly suspect. Olivia looked bothered about something, and he doubted it was concern for Wei, though knowing Olivia it probably wasn't entirely a lie. Vince felt bad for the girl too, but..... There was still definitely something else. "Alright.... If you say so." He was certainly being more forgiving than she or Ducky had been, but this seemed like more of a serious matter.

Wining and dining with the elite, meeting such interesting people with so much going on...all of it reminded Austin that he really didn't belong here. He was just pretending like he did. So, when prompted to stick around, the answer was very obvious to the coordinator. "I do enjoy the series, Mister Weiß," he said politely, "And I would much enjoy to speak to the man that was responsible for it, but unfortunately, duty calls elsewhere. But a good night to you as well, and your date." Austin gave a curt bow, and Beltigre mewed a goodbye, and the pair departed...
...and came right back, with phone in hand to snap a quick, ninja-esque selfie with the author. "Thank you! Ta-ta!" ~~~~~~~~~~
Once Austin was out the banquet hall, he let out a sigh. "Okay, let's blow this joint, Beltigre. Let's get back to Floaroma Town. We gotta get back to work." The cat nodded in agreement. And with that, Austin and Beltigre found the nearest Butler and abra, and were teleported back to Floaroma Town.

✿ ❀ Isis giggled with amusement as Leon rejected the idea of male bonding time in the ruins. ”Aw, and here I was so hopeful." She teased. They made their way into the dining hall to get ice for Leon's hand, Isis scolding him gently to learn his lesson now about punching his way through things. Still, she had to agree that she had never suspected that man to be a pokemon. ”A solgaleo? is that what that lion was? I've never heard of it." Isis looked thoughtful. ”It was so pretty, but it changed back to that human illusion before I could snap a picture." She lamented.
Speaking of pretty things and taking pictures, Leon complimented Isis and her current attire and she smiled brightly. ”Thanks.... I really wanted to get a picture of all of us together in our fancy attire, so you better ice your hand so you aren't grimacing!"" Isis insisted, grabbing a napkin and some ice from one of the many ice buckets holding champagne bottles. She stuffed a few cubes into the napkin and wrapped it up tight, giving it to Leon for now before turning to Zero and Nova.
