Solo #14: Things to do...
Mar 08, 2010

Jada's list of things she can do to piss off her parents

The writing was big and neat on the top of a clean sheet of light blue lined paper. Jada rested back against her headboard, tapping her pen against the small lap-held writing desk.

Get tramp stamp – this is a possibility. Pattern? And could I do this without being thoroughly drunk?
Lose … well... that THING – this is... an embarassing possibility. Need applicants.
Get a motorcycle – I'd rather learn to ride one first. Who do I know with a motorcycle?
Elope with random dude – Only if they keep trying to arrange my marriage!
Cut and Dye hair – Definite possibility. I wonder how I'd look blonde?
Claim she is lesbian – Well, probably not just a small possibility.

The pen was inserted between white teeth, ankles crossing as she debated. Setting the desk on her nightstand, Jada allowed her body to fall back onto white satin sheets, snuggling against the cool material with a sigh of relief. It was only 6:00 in the afternoon. She should be moving back into Crystal tomorrow, with a new room and everything. The one that had been stained with the blood of her lingerie was going to be given to someone else.

All in all, the story had remained on the down low.

Unfortunately, her new bedroom was on the second floor and she didn't have a tree to climb to get in and out of her window. This would be a problem for her when she wanted to go out patrolling, or meet up with Virgo or any of the other Scouts.

Get belly piercing – I think something shiny in my belly would look nice.
Get nose/lip ring – Not likely, but a possibility.
Encourage sisters to go to Meadowview instead of Crystal – I've been doing this for years.
Get arrested – Rap sheets would not look good to potential employers
Public Indecency – See above; If I get caught. What are the legal definitions anyways? Research...
Public Drunkenness – Rap sheets would not look good to potential employers
Buy cigarettes – I'm almost 18. This would be legal. This would also be disgusting.

She continued down the list after picking the desk back up and rolling over to her belly. Long legs kicked into the air.

Get a real boyfriend – Mom already is angry over the fact I refused to go on the dates she's set up with me this week.

She pondered some more. Honestly, being a bad child wasn't what she was best at. She thrived on her parents being happy with her! And if she pushed this too much, daddy might not give her the loan to get her apartment after graduation. In just a few months, three at the most! She huffed out a breath, contemplating.

Well, it wasn't like her parents had to know if she did a few of the things on this list. That would be between her and whoever she did them with.

She folded up the paper, slid it into her purse. Set the table down on the bed, and decided to go for a horseback ride. Lady Luck would help her cool her head, and it was a beautiful Saturday...

Solo #15: Nightmares
Mar 08, 2010

*This is placed in the future, but I like to post things when I'm inspired sometimes.

It was 4:00 in the morning when Jada felt a shadow cross her sleeping face. When something woke her in the night, tucked in her bed. Tore her away from dreams of dark hair and soft lips and beautiful eyes that gleamed at her. Tore her from fantasies of hands and love and thrust her into something frightening. It shouldn't have been frightening. It was only a thunderstorm, and her family's property was enclosed in a thick brick wall that covered the entire property. The only way in was a gate, with a guard. And Kinjo, her little brother's dog, wasn't barking in that way he did whenever someone came unwelcome onto their property. He barked for everything; pizza men, gardeners, girl scouts, squirrels, stray cats, their father getting a midnight snack and even the maids.

But the entire house was quiet, and the only sounds from outside were the sounds of branches scraping over the roof, the sounds of the trees blowing in a rough wind, and the rain pattering on the balcony outside her window and the roof above her head. Still, something felt wrong. Jada buried herself under her blanket, hiding her face as though if she couldn't see it, it couldn't see her. Whatever -it- was. She clutched at the pen she kept under her pillow, panic making her throat close.

Something scratched at her balcony door.

She froze.

The scratch came again, slow, steady.

There weren't any trees at her balcony door.

The sound of shattering, and Jada jerked bolt upright in her bed, staring at her balcony door. A figure was staring at her, but it didn't look... human. It didn't look like her stalker, thank god.

Why hadn't Kinjo barked?

The figure looked hesitant, again, as though surprised to see her paying it any mind. What else could she do? It saw her, she couldn't hide to turn into Scylla and scare off her own bogeyman. So what else was there to do? The jaws opened wide, the creature stepped for her, reaching out its hands. She screamed.

And she screamed.

And still screaming she woke, bolt upright, into the sound of howling wind, her balcony doors wide open, her bedroom door wide open, and Kinjo barking and yowling into the darkness. Her mother rushed in,covered in a gauzy blue robe and in a lavender negligee, collecting Jada into her arms, eyes going wide at something she'd noticed that Jada obviously hadn't. She was followed by Jada's father, in black silk night pants, chest covered in curling matted grey hair that looked like a bear.

Jada thought she saw a shadow slipping past her bedroom door.

Her hand shook.

Next to her bed a white rose, dripping blood. Fresh, wet blood. Not from her, was it... the smell was metallic. Footprints moved from balcony to floor, bare human footprints, painting the white carpets in dark, wet dirt. Her father was ranting something, raving something. She could see her brother and sisters coming towards the bed; Szelem shifted herself and Jada over to make room for Zora, Kayley, and Lucas. The five of them piled on the bed while Michael and Kinjo howled curses into the dark.

Solo #16: If you were Dying
Mar 10, 2010

“If you knew you would die tomorrow,” Jada leaned against the door, unbound hair brushing her hips, listening to her sisters tutor talking to them, “and you only had today, what would you do?” It was 9:00 on a Saturday morning. Why was the tutor over here? Other than the fact that Zora was failing her mathematics classes. But if Zora was the one failing, why was the teacher discussing something almost philosophical in nature, and why was Kayley sitting on the window seat, munching on a brownie?

“I'd go to Disney.” Kayley said promptly, shaking her blonde head so that her ringlets bounced around her pale, pretty face. “I want to see Mickey, and Goofey, and I'd have Daddy get me to the top of Cinderella's castle so I could be like a princess.” She looked a princess, right down to the bright green eyes. “And I would have fireworks, and I would stay awake all night, and when I died, I'd be asleep cause I stayed up all morning.”

“I'd get a tattoo.” Zora said when the tutor turned to her. Popped her chewing gum, twisting the little silver ring on her pinkie finger that Jada had won her out of a little $1 machine one night. A thirteen year old hellion, with bright red hair and her black-haired sister's purple eyes. Her hair was cropped close to the skull; she'd cut it earlier today with scissors. “And I'd get a ride on a motorcycle.” She glared at Kayley, almost daring the other girl to say anything.

Jada snorted from the door, stepping into the library and moving for a bookshelf. Her black silk nightgown whispered around her ankles, the pale violet robe slipping off of one shoulder. “I remember when you asked me a similar question, professor.” the questioning look was answered before the older woman could get the words out. “Except you asked me-”

“If someone tried to kill you, how would you defend yourself.” The older woman leaned back in her chair. “Your father chastised me for making you afraid someone would try and hurt you.”

Jada ran slim fingers over the books. “And I told you?” Did the old woman remember? Jada didn't. Jada had blocked out her answer a long time ago, locking it inside herself so that she'd never answer that question again. The answer had made her mother angry, had upset her father.

“You said that you would take them out with you.” the professor's lips twitched. “You were so young when I asked you that question. It wasn't fair to you. You used to be so cute, and you were so attached to-”

“I remember.” Jada interrupted. She could remember bawling at the thought of dying at the hands of some monster with a knife, leaving her mommy and daddy to cry and mourn. She had been inconsolable for days. The old woman had been her tutor then, and had almost lost her job for asking the question. She'd had nightmares of looking like one of the chickens in the kitchen, trussed up and headless. It was when she'd still loved her mother, not just respected her; back when the lovely older woman would hug her close, not thinking about makeup and crisp clothing. She could remember being tied to her mother's hip, admiring the silk and satin of her fine dresses, the cashmere sweaters. She'd been so proud of herself when her mother had given her a small golden locket with a little pearl on the front. It was her first grown-up piece of jewelry. Jada had been 11, and was going to dinner with her parents. A real big kid dinner. She was supposed to keep some little boy company.

She'd ended up getting in a fight with him when he told her that he wouldn't let her sit on his right; girls sat on the left, only important people sat at someone's right hand. Which was why a wife sat to the left. She wasn't important, but her husband was supposed to be the center of her world.

It was the first time she noticed her father sat to her mother's left. Her mother was on his right.

But that was neither here nor there, not now; what mattered to her now was finding the right passage... From the shelf she pulled without needing to search, the book she was looking for. The Art of War. Expertly, she flipped it to a bookmarked page. 'All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near. Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him.' Jada pondered the passage, mentally fitting it into the paper she was writing upstairs.

“You were a smart kid.” Zora popped her gum, crossing her legs. The sound of the gum popping dragged Jada's mind from the darkness it had been sinking towards.

“Uncross your legs, Zora. Ladies don't sit like that.” Jada's face was expressionless, the words something uttered in a voice that wasn't hers, from a part of her brain that was automaton, not real. From a part of her her mother had crafted inside her a long time ago.

“I ain't a lady. I'm a hellion.” Zora's eyes met Jada's, something passing between their gazes that made Kayley look confused, neatly twisting her hands in her own lap.

“Ladies don't use 'ain't' Zora.” Kayley's voice was almost as prim as their mother's. “And they cross their legs at the ankles.”

“Why don't we hear your sisters' answer to the question I put forth to you girls.” the professor looked at her eldest pupil, who looked back at the bookshelf, pulling another from it.

“I'm not here for a pop quiz, I needed a reference. My copies of these books are at school.”

“Answer, Jada.” the twins almost chorused the question, glaring at each other before Zora continued. “What would you do if you were going to die tomorrow?”

“....” Jada looked down at the book, considering the question. It was a tough choice. If she was going to die... “I'd make sure I didn't die for nothing.” she said finally. “I'd die fighting. Because if I gave up, the thing that killed me won without any resistance from me.” she shook her head. “I couldn't stand losing. I'd just...” she shook her head, closing the book in her hands. Wordlessly she padded out of the room on bare feet, shutting the library doors behind her. The answer had sobered the twins quickly, and the old professor gave Jada a very solemn look, watching her move out of the room.

Solo #17: It starts off the same...
Mar 12, 2010

((Prev Nightmare [X]))

She'd had this dream before.

Except this time it was 3:00 in the morning when Jada felt that shadow crossing her face. When something woke her in the night, tucked in her bed. Tore her away from dreams. There was a thunderstorm. The entire house was quiet, and the only sounds from outside were the sounds of branches scraping over the roof, the sounds of the trees blowing in a rough wind, and the rain pattering on the balcony outside her window and the roof above her head. The feeling of wrongness. This time, Jada stood, glancing down at herself- a white silk nightdress. It clung to her body like skin. Not the thing she wanted to be wearing to go walking in a thunderstorm.

Logically, she should have remembered that she didn't want to go walking in the rain.

Her hair was down, pooling around her body, strands clinging to the bare skin and tugging at the firm flesh. Normally this would bother her.

It didn't.

She didn't slide on the scarlet robe that was thrown quite dramatically over her balcony. Instead she walked the outside balcony of the large house. Red silk was outside every window, streaming down like ribbons of blood. Slowly, her eyes turned towards the place that the blood wasn't.

Red silk had hit the ground, and was pooling around her bare feet. It was wet and cool. Not hot like blood. It would stain her nightgown, she thought, illogically.

Red shouldn't be cool, she decided, and the red moved to a deep blue-black, and the house started crumbling into silken pools, stretching across the family property. Filling up the stone walls with silk, lifting her with it as it rose.

This was not the nightmare she'd had before.

It lifted her high, over the walls, until the blue was spilling over the walls. “Stop it.” she whispered, and it paused. She could see people freeze in their running from the silken scarves and sheets.

“Start over again.” her own voice came from behind her, and she turned to see Scylla. Their faces were mirrored, and as Jada lifted her left hand to make it stop again, Scylla's right hand rose with it.

“Don't do this.” Jada told herself. Her words poured from Scylla's lips.

“I want to.” Scylla told herself. Her words came from Jada's own mouth.

“Why.... what...?”

“It's now or never.” Scylla leaned in close to her, and as the other moved, so she felt herself moving. The senshi leaned in, her red lips pressing to Jada's own. The senshi's hands moved over her body, and Jada realized she was naked.

Then, Jada was drowning. Scylla watched her sink into the blue silk, and suddenly it wasn't silk. It was water, pressure, and she could feel something moving underneath her. The water was salty, stinging eyes she couldn't close. What was in the water was too big to be comfortable in the small pool it was within.

Too big to be confined.

Suckers wider than her entire body was long whispered past her as easily as she would move her arm in a light breeze. She couldn't move even an arm to fight for the surface. There was too much water rushing down on her.

Her vision was going dim.

Then she was watching herself sinking. She was Scylla, watching Jada's nude body falling to the deeps.

She was Jada, sitting bolt upright in her bed, gasping for breath, lips blue. She reached up, gripping her nightgown, and pushed out of bed, pulling on the white mesh robe at her bedside. On base feet she padded over to the balcony doors, pushing them open. It was still a thunderstorm, that was real. There was a man on her balcony, watching her. His eyes drifted over her body, and then she realized that this was the dream she'd had before. He stepped forward, and she didn't move, watching him. His jaws opened, and she could see that there was nothing inside of him. He was a shell.

She watched him move closer to her, one hand reaching out for her. She couldn't move. She could only watch as a clawed hand pushed aside her robe, sank into her chest. She gasped, she gagged.

“Use me.” Scylla moaned in her ear. “I can save us.”

Her vision was going dim.

Jada woke in her bedroom at Crystal, hands curled over her chest.
