“It’s damn cold,” Came a gruff voice, that even underneath the torenting rain cut through her ears and resonated in her head. She wasn’t sure how cold it was- her feelings were always somewhat abstract to how mortals felt, but even she could feel a definite temperature drop since the rain had started falling. Her mortal body was quivering, and unabashedly, she leaned herself against his large frame while her wide eyes scanned the horizon.
The rain certainly didn’t help; but it was unlikely any kind of hiding place could be ushered from this desolate land. Even Phib seemed resolved that there was no helping it, and he had quite a steady stance on just how much he disliked the falling waters. The fog of greyness made the landscape even more eerier then it was. Nothing but flatlands. Even the grass was barely toe high. The only landmark in the distance was an oddly curved boulder- but after twenty minutes of staring at it, Améh was starting to feel an anxiousness to move on.
“It is rather eerie.” She remarked. But if she had heard him with remarkable clarity, he on the other hand struggled to hear her over the sound of the rain smacking the earth. Curiously he tilted his large head towards her, and on any other occasion she might have taken the time to tease him about what a sorry state his mane was in. Although usually curly, it was now surprisingly flat, and mopped both sides of his face like a sad wig. His ear perked from underneath the mass of matted hair, and she gathered that he had not heard her. “I mean-“ She spoke, a bit louder. “The land- it’s awfully flat!”
Phib glanced at the horizon, as if he couldn’t make a statement without first making sure that it was in fact still true. His eyes flickered back, and he seemed to be considering the matter a bit harder then she felt seemed necessary. Peculiarly she tilted her head, and raised her paw. Perhaps he had misheard her?
“It’s flat because it’s herdlands.” The lion finally retorted. Of course- she had known that, but he was missing the point.
“I mean- it’s creepy!” She called out. “It’s wet, not creepy.” He gruffly remarked, and eyed the land again as if a look could will it dry. Another crack of lightning danced across the drenched couple, but neither were willing to move. They sat stoically through it, gazing at the flat landscape. He considered it. “Why would it be creepy?”
“Like, the world ended. We wouldn’t know, would we? If something came and erased it all, and this was what was left.” Phib arched his eyebrow, and looked back out at the horizon, and back towards Améh. “It’s just part desert. Nothing gone about it.” “I know, I know-“ Améh attempted to explain. “But like- isn’t it weird?” “What’s weird?”
“The grass- no, I mean, the fact that nothing is here.” Another lightning crackle. “Other then that rock, yes?” “But if we walked there would be something.” Phib remarked flatly. “No, I mean- if you used your imagination.” He was already groaning, and Améh flushed. “- Like, if you were looking at it. And you didn’t know there was something else on the other side. You woke up, and all you saw was flat land and a boulder. It would feel like everything else got erased.” “But, this isn’t the first thing I’ve seen. I know that if we walk we’ll find something else.”
“But with your imagination-“ Améh pitifully attempted to explain, but by now even she was losing faith in whatever it was she was talking about. It had made sense earlier, but now she just felt silly.
“Alright. Well, if I used my ‘imagination’ then I guess, yes, it would be creepy.”
“Yes- so-!” Améh started to continue, but Phib gave the gruff groan that signaled that he had only agreed in an attempt to stop the conversation altogether. Sheepishly she shook her head and smiled, before another clash of thunder broke the silence. “I’m wet.” Améh examined, and licked her chest fur. “So I’ve noticed. It’s raining, you know.” Phib drawled. “Really, I hadn’t noticed?” “Oh, sure.”

Quote: RP: Kilua/Mteuli Like a stone.
Mteuli stood under the cover of a huge tree as thunder rolled through the air. The sun was no where to be seen, though it was past noon. The sky was darkened by huge gray clouds. Mist even began to cover the dusty grasses as it rained despite all the heat. It was gloomy and extremely wet. Though the seer didn't seem too put off by the weather. His homeland got a lot of rain as well and was humid much of the time too. It was just a little irratating to be out in such an open area right now. Only the tree standing above him provided cover and it was very little.
"Well, I suppose this is what I get for my traveling ways," Mteuli murmured, bemused. He settled back on his haunces, his back almost against the tree as he watched the rain fall. It was a shame he didn't have any company.
------------------
The rain was hot and unpleasant against her regal brow, the force of which burned her face into a kind of half frown. Had it not been for the humidity, she might have been able to tolerate the falling waters and distant thunder roar. She’d always found storms...- well, interesting wasn’t the right word. They didn’t interest her in the sense of that word. But they did pull. She wasn’t sure what part of her they tinkered with, but she felt it’s absence among her own irritance.
Sticky. That was what it was. Even the water making her pale blue fur stiff and luminescent couldn’t stop it from being sticky. It made her already agitated wound throb, and daintily, the small female lifted the end of one of her backlegs. It was slightly swollen now- and it smelt a bit more sour then she’d like.
She must have looked funny, Kilua thought. Nose to her foot like this, suspending her weight on her other three legs. Luckily, it was unlikely anyone would be around to see her in such an undignified pose. Certainly not the kind of expression her mother would have liked-
And then, compulsively, her eyes fell towards a tree before closing. “Oo....” She mouthed and opened her winced eye. Sure enough- someone was there to see her.
Quickly, she set her leg down and snorted, eyeing the male beneath the tree sheepishly. It looked a bit drier there, but she wasn’t sure how much pride she wanted to compensate yet...
-------------------
Mteuli's emerald gaze shifted along the dark landscape absently. His expression seemed rather bored and passive, at least until he caught sight of a lioness not far away. He had almost missed her, the shade of her coat blending well with the gloom. Not that he disliked the look of her, though. She was a very pretty young female, though the way she stood seemed off. She didn't rest any weight upon one of her legs.
When she looked up to see him he smiled warmly. Well, perhaps he could have some company after all. "Would you like some shelter from the rain, miss?" He questioned, his voice like fresh honey, yet it was genuine, as if he spoke like this no matter what the words were that came from his mouth, "There is more then enough room for us both."
-------------------
She had a weakness for men. Kilua was old enough now to realize that. Perhaps it was because she was so constantly curious about a father she knew not a breath of information on. As it was- besides Hodari and her brothers, she had met very few other men. It was an odd attraction; but she was easily won over by the gentle expression and her own private need for that kind of figure in her life. Slowly she pawed towards the seated male- but, despite her ginger attitude she kept a cautious eye on her surroundings. Her affections had nothing to do with reality, and bum leg or not, there was no way she could ever do anything to protect herself. Saying she hardly knew how to hunt was giving her more credit then she deserved already.
“Um–“ Kilua spoke, her voice light at first, before it seemed to twist into a more structured manner of speech. “I am sorry for the intrusion; but, I would like the shade very much.” Kilua remarked, a smile pulling across her face. It was somewhat restrained- either against the pain in her foot, or against her will to smile more.
“I didn’t expect it to rain.” She explained as she finally pulled alongside the tree, wasting no time in moving to the tree’s trunk and pressing her frame against it. Once invited, she kept little hesitation about closeness. “Thank you, I’m Kilua.”
---------------------
Mteuli had a love for others that was hard to explain. Friendships were his lifeblood, so to speak, though he wouldn't lie and say he didn't enjoy the company of a pretty female a little more then others. But he was a lion of manners-it wasn't simply that he had them, they were a part of who he was. He was the last lion who would harm another, had he a choice in the matter. Not that she would know this, of course.
"It is my pleasure," he replied in the same swift, welcoming manner. "Though the tree does not belong to me-you'd be welcome here no matter what wish I have. Though I'm rather overjoyed at the company." If he noticed her wounded leg, he said nothing at the moment. Though he probably would if signs began to show it was bothering her. "I am called Mteuli," he offered with a nod of his head in a sort of half-bow, his eyes twinkling with good humor.
----------------------
Kilua swayed her tail in a cub like manner as she caught his eyes in the half bow. They were green.
Curious~ As much as she had always expected such a motion towards her, no one had ever actually done it. It was not an egoistical pull, to see someone greet her like that. But it was a different, fulfilling kind. A recognition that she had not faded into the mists and obscurity- and she’d never realized before how afraid of that she had been.
But, she was young and she could not keep the sly glance for long before breaking. It brought a slight flush of embarrassment to her expression, which like her smile, she worked to calm somewhat. In most record time she had composed herself. Overall- she had the look of someone who had taken to pretending to be much older then she really was.
“Mteuli?” She spoke lightly. “I’m very glad to meet you." And then came the strangled onslaught. She had mastered keeping herself recomposed, but in terms of articulacy... "I mean- I understand it's not your tree, but-" She mouthed something, stopped as though she was suprised to have done it, and spoke again. "--But, you were here first, so it is still kind."
There. That was moderately adult sounding.
Somewhat.
-----------------------
Mteuli smiled at her, despite her cluttered words. He didn't laugh or tease her about it. And while he was amused, it wasn't because he thought little of her due to her not being as easily spoken as he. The seer actually found it very refreshing. In so many meetings he had to trail his words along carefully, like woven threads that followed only a certain patter or they would be tangled. But somehow he felt this wasn't the case with Kilua. For once he didn't have to tip toe around anything, even if it was unintentional on his part most of the time.
"Yes, I suppose that is true. You were very polite. I'm sorry if I seemed to think you otherwise, my dear. My tongue likes to run away with unneeded comments at times," he told her smoothly.
------------------------
Oh, drat. Kilua frowned and flattened her ears, while trying to consider if her being found out as ‘polite’ translated to ‘overly polite’. She knew speech was important. And boy did she try- but, it did seem like she was getting in the habit of talking herself into circles more often then she. “Hah-“ She remarked softly, her face dropping the faux regal tone and leaving a kind of sorry waif in its wake. “No no, it’s not that.”
But if she was going to stumble forward, she decided she’d at least hobble in the right direction. Slowly she inhaled a breath- which, unfortunately for Kilua contained a small dribblet of water, which instantly broke her into a sneeze. Once recovered and sheepishly trying to regain what was left of her pretend persona, she continued.
“If you don’t mind me asking...” She didn’t wait for a response. “...Where am I?”
-------------------------
"Bless you," Mteuli soothed without thought, watching her curiously. The sudden, more sorrowful tone in her voice for a moment made him wonder if perhaps he was confusing her. Sometimes his complex web of words wasn't the best thing to use, though it was what he was used to. But he decided not to muse on it for now. If it seemed the conversation struggled more he decided he could try and blut his language down a bit.
"Where...? Well..." he grinned slightly, glancing out at the stormy skies, "You're under a tree, in a storm." He chuckled, shifting slightly, and quickly added a real answer to her question, "Just north of a jungle and river not far away. There are a couple of different pridelands scattered about near by but...currently we aren't in any. Rogue land, I suppose."
-------------------------
She quirked a faint smile to the other male’s comment- but really, it was a bit more disappointing then hopeful. Despite the other rogue’s advice- Kilua quite simply, could not do this. Already a bad leg! Mother would be so disappointed. Dazedly she pushed some of the water locked tufts of hair, and rose her head upwards. “I mean...I really have no idea where I am. My family has sort of migrated a bit- and, I’m afraid I don’t know much where I’m going or what I’m supposed to do.”
Was it so hard to think that she needed someone to tell her what to do? After all her attempts at being regal, she still fell short of being self important.
“This is...bad lands?” She questioned, eyeing the pouring rain. It was still falling from the trees, but in much slowly portions. It still caused her to wring herself a bit against the sturdy bark.
Wait- uff! Now, she was coming off as utterly pathetic. And that was one thing her pride would not allow. Quickly Kilua seemed to shift her spout to a different direction, and shook herself off. “Not to sound completely and utterly pathetic, that is. I’m just-...” She paused, but not out of hesitation. She couldn’t find the word. “I’m....not lost...but- moving? Like a rock. Someone threw me, and I'm still moving.”
--------------------------
"Hmm..." Mteuli paused, seeming to ponder over her problem. She didn't know where she was going or what she was doing. It was hard to be in such a state. He couldn't tell her what to do, at least not like she probably wanted. But it seemed he would help in the best way he was able. And he dare not tell her he was a seer now for fear she might ask him to look into her future. He disliked doing such things, liking to let life run it's course.
"Well, what is it you want? I suppose that would be the first step in deciding what to do and therefore, where to go," Mteuli told her easily. "Do you wish to reunite with your family? Or perhaps something else?"
---------------------------
It was good he hadn’t asked- she’d always been cautious of Utomo and his seer ways. She didn’t understand them, but she knew enough that there would always be a rift between them and she that their mother had helped create. She loved them...but the favoring of her, had to eventually wear thin...perhaps that was why she was rolling.
“I don’t know what I want.” She admitted, glancing at the rain. “I don’t think what I want ever existed.” Kilua reflected. The adult act was a lie for the most part- but there were moments when her light voice certainly passed for that of an ancient. Her temperament was somewhat lulled by his cool nature. Most of the other lions she had met previously had either spoken to her in contempt, or had reflected her own nervous behaviors.
“What do you do with that?” She remarked, looking back at the male, and his green eyes. Something about them seemed to know- but it was not because he was a seer. “You can’t find something that isnt there. And I don’t know what else I want. Well- maybe for it to be cooler. I suppose I would like that.”
A bit comically, she rose her foot. “And, I’d like this to stop throbbing. I have a lot of short term goal issues.”
-----------------------------
Mteuli glanced at her leg, though he didn't look too surprised. "Well, you still want something, if it is only something little for now," He murmured simply, his smile remaining. Did the lion ever frown? "You go from there, I suppose. I wish I could give you a better answer." He shifted slightly, stretching out the muscles on his front legs. "I do believe if you went to the river to the south and gave your leg a good soak it would feel better. The water there is cool. At least, it is in my pridelands," He said thoughtfully. To be without longing...he couldn't pretend to understand what that was like. He had much he desire and much he had to do. For once he felt as if he was helpless and couldn't relate. It weighed heavily on his heart, making him feel guilty. Though he didn't know why he expected more of himself.
