Sunrise on the savannahs was both beautiful and horrible at the same time. It was amazing to watch the sun rise up into the sky, but as the night's welcome chill was taken away, the sun heated the lands into a scorching sort of fire. Moving steadily in a southern direction, a lion that blended in with the grasses turned red-orange faced the heat to his left and welcomed the cold to his right.

A river flowed lazily near by, heading to or from the Pridelands he didn't know. But he was following it, since it was a good source of water as well as prey. Stopping to drink, he noticed paw prints, three in the set of four deeper than the rest. It puzzled him, until he sniffed. An injured lion? Curious and worried, the orange lion started to follow the tracks, cautions since injured animals tended to be defensive. And for good reason...

She had been following the water for what seemed like forever, and the mud had caked onto her paws and between her toes to such an extent that they were starting to numb. But she knew now it wouldn’t do to stray from fresh water. Not in Africa. Food she could catch when she could on it’s shore- but if she wandered too far, Kilua had a good feeling she might become lost. Never in her life had the proclaimed princess ever imagined that she would recognize her own mortality. But something as of recent had stirred in her, and it made her cling to the water despite the mud and the gunk. Her back leg throbbed more then ever now; but, it was healing miraculously well after a brief run in with a strange white lioness. There was a dullness to it though- and despite the healing infection, she felt the bone jarred.

Of all this, the young lioness really did not know. She shifted and stretched herself out underneath the rim of a rather large bush, and stared at the brown water slowly drift away. Still- despite the dire situation, Kilua was meekly pleasant. Her eyes still were bright, and a small smile had self plastered itself onto her face, although there was nothing in particular she was pleased about.

Stretching a long grey arm out, she rested her head down upon the wrist, and slowly pivoted her ears. She might have fallen asleep- but the sudden scent on the wind caught her attention. With a low squeak, the female rose her head, eyeing the approaching male.
“Hello?” She spoke, curling the end of her tail.

Ears perking, the male looked up at the sound of both movement and a voice. A new scent hit his nose as well as the winds shifted, and he had to wrinkle his nose a bit. Infected flesh... He'd seen the occasional zebra with it, and made sure to stear clear of such animals. But this was a felow lion, and from the sounds of it, a lioness. Stepping carefully amid the mud, he went over. "Hello... Are you hurt...?" Stupid question, but it wasn't often he met lions he didn't know that lacked a mane.

The small female blinked, and turned her head somewhat to the side. She seemed to think on something, before looking back with a wide eyed stare. “Not really-“ She peeped, and shifted. “I mean, no- it’s healing, sort of, I think. Do I look that bad? I didn’t think-“ Kilua paused, and shut her mouth. She was getting into the obnoxious habit of running her mouth too quickly, and not really considering what it was she ways saying.

Sheepishly, she eyed the male before her. She always had a pulling weakness towards them- but, she was somewhat overcoming it. There would be no father in her life- she had let go of that. Now...now, she headed out as far as she could. But still, it didn’t stop her from feeling somewhat embarrassed.

“Um...my name is Kilua. And- you?”

Walking with a bit more dignity, Danzi moved out of the deeper mud. "Well, your leg seems to be oozing pus a bit... And you look like you might not have eaten in a while. OTher than that... You look pretty okay." He smiled, sitting down(And promptly regretting it). "I'm Danzi."

The coarse language somewhat prickled at her ear, and she averted her eyes for a moment to look on the condition of her leg. The infection was waning, and she had high hopes that it would not trouble her further. A quiet flash of remembrance of the occasion soured her face, and she returned it back towards Danzi. “Hello Danzi-“ She spoke, her ears perking as she attempted to recompile her face.

A soft giggle ushered from her throat. “A little...I guess, I really am a mess. I’ve been trying to take care of it though, and I’ve been eating frogs on the side- and any other little thing that comes by the water. I’m following it.” She admitted. “I’d like to see where the water goes.”

Making a slight face, Danzi glanced at the frogs near the water's edge. "But... Some frogs can be bad to eat. They can make you sick..." He thought a moment, tail flicking in the mud. "How about you move up to solid, dry ground and find a nice shadey spot to rest, and I go get you something to eat?" He stood up, tail flicking again.

Kilua breathed, and paused for a long moment. He was offering to get something for her? The idea of real food made her stomach churn and a quickening sensation tighten in her chest. It was frantic- on one side, she had so hard wired her instincts to clinging to the river that it terrified her to leave it. “I...” The female paused, and flushed. “You must think I’m quite pathetic. But...I’ll take you up on that. But if I walk up, you have to be sure I make it back here. I want to follow the water, and I’m afraid if I walk too far I’ll lose it.”

It sounded insane- and it probably was. But she clung tight to it.

"I'll go up here." The pale grey creature spoke, looking up at the bank. Somewhat meekly she rose, and limped away from the mud.

Chuckling, Danzi climbed up onto the bank. "You don't have to go far. Look, the river's still in sight here. And it's a safe spot." He padded around it, tail flicking, then looked off at the prey animals. The zebras were heading for the river for a crossing to find better pastures, a prime time to hunt. "Stay here, and there'll be one zebra, coming right up." Smiling at the young lioness reasuringly, he turned and headed for the herd. "Like I said, though, a good spot within view of the river. So nothing to worry about!"

Kilua perked her ears and shifted, the wheels in her head slowly turning with thought. The franticness her leg had caused her still made her reluctant to move- but with a swallow she forced a smile upon her face and nodded. The idea of meat- any kind of meat- made her shiver. It had been so long since she had a full belly, or any sort of sustainment. Hopefully he thought her lack of hunting was due to her foot. Absently, she turned her head towards it.

But Kilua knew better then to think a bum leg would cost her her hunting. She’d never been used to hunting- Mother had always done it for her, and... now she simply did not know. She had no urge to be the wandering rogue she had become. She wanted stability- and she had thrown all of her remaining optimism in what was at the end of the river.

Giving a slight glance to the male who moved towards the zebra, Kilua daintily sat down beneath the tree, unable to keep herself aloft long enough to even watch his hunt. Her head rested on the cool grass, and at once she was out.

With the zebra distracted by crossing the river, it was easy for the male to bring one down. The striped herd beasts, startled by one suddenly being pulled down, were spurred to make the crossing a lot sooner.

The young mare, Danzi still attached to her, went down the steep embankment to crash into the mud. Though he was hurt, Danzi only had a sprain, whereas the zebra had a more fatal injury. Sides heaving and limping slightly, the male lion started the struggle to haul the prey beast back up to Kilua.

He got there to find the lioness sleeping. He smiled just a bit, settling down to try and get the mud off his almost tangerine coat. The zebra wasn't going anywhere, she was dead.

Kilua awakened as he approached, her mind momentairly stabbing at her head for deprived sleep. The meat was warm in her nose and it trickled down to her narrow frame. “–You hunt very well!” She suddenly spoke in surprise, knowing no other thing to say but knowing all the while what she really needed to say was a thank-you. Shyly she stretched out her head, and nosed at the meat- but waited for permission. She had never been used to eating on whim.

Looking up with a smile, Danzi motioned to the zebra. "It's no problem. You can go ahead and eat, you need it more than I do. Besides..." He chuckled, eyeing his coat. "I need a bath before I eat anything." Turning back to his mud-dirtied coat, he went back to grooming it, allowing Kilua to eat.

Kilua smiled softly, and gently pulled off a dainty bite. "Thank you..." She spoke, her eyes vieling. "I'm sorry, I really am quite sad." She uttered, swallowing the meat dully. "

"Where do you come from, Danzi?"

Stretching once clean, the male settled down. "I come from the Pridelands. But I'm just out here stretching my legs a bit, since I was born a rogue and it's nice to be out and about now and then. What about you? Where do you come from?" Deep green eyes seemed to glimmer with the question. Those from afar fascinated him, since there were so many places he'd never been before.
