A grumble slid from Khepri's white muzzle as she flopped down on the sands, relishing the fact that she was away from that purple idiot and that he had left, that he was safe.

Though that was un-Firekin-like, the little female didn't care. All she really wanted was to leave, to get somewhere where the blood didn't flow so easily and where her scars wouldn't be revered as markings of her strength but of meanings of her life. As a pattern of what happens to those that overstep but at the same time learn.

Not strength or pride. Khepri was so sick of those words that they'd begun to scathe in the past months.

That's because you're weak.

You don't belong.

Run!

Run away you little idiot!

Thwacking the side of her head in aggitation, Khepri snarled to herself and stood slowly, not happy with the voices ringing in her head. She really needed to do something about them.

Small dainty paws crossed against the dusty earth. Ashki was gone- and she felt somewhat disheartened. She was glad to see the male go...he needed to go, but she was left with an empty feeling of lost friendship. Even if they had only known each other for a day. She fell into attachment easily- something far different from her namesake’s trait, and the small princess was for once looking glum. With a soft sigh she dug her claws into the hot rock, using them as a guide as she slid down a small embankment, and towards the rocks below.

As she lowered herself, the white creature became aware of another small figure in the distance. Mouthing a soft meep, she pulled herself to a stop, her yellow eyes watching the red as she seemed to twitch. What Kaanga understood was already up to debate- and this odd behavior by the other female struck a peculiar interest in her. For the moment, thoughts of her lost friend faded, and she gently landed in a heap on the side of the rock.

Just as she did, the other female smacked herself in the head. A soft squeak uttered from Kaanga’s mouth, and the little seer scrambled towards the other girl. “Oh, oh- don’t be hitting your head like that.” She spoke, her eyes wide. “Doesn’t it hurt?”

The lesson of boundaries was one Kaanga had never quite got down, and unabashedly she placed her paw on top of the other female’s head, sniffing it suspiciously. “Kaanga doesn’t think that’s any good for the brains!”

Instantly the irony of the situation and the deja vu that came with the burning in Khepri's scars held her tongue and her claws as the other little female put a paw on the spot she'd just hit. So this was the prince's sister was it? Kaanga if she remembered correctly from the names she'd gathered in one of her frequent scoutings for the knowledge that flowed from every facet of everything on the african desert.

"O' course it don' hurt. Ah don' wanna hurt mahself too bad yo' kno'?" Khepri answered in her mish/mosh of speach. This little one spoke in the third person, of course she wouldn't say a thing to that seeing as how her own speach was a train wreck to listen to.

"Kaanga righ'?" Khepri asked at last, unsure of what she should do in the face of one of Finar'si's cubs.

If the speech was hard for Kaanga to follow, she didn’t make any show of it. A smile crossed about the pale girl’s features, and she curved to the side, leaning her weight against her left side, as she observed the top of the other girl’s head. Kaanga really had no idea what she was looking at- although she made a good show of trying to find some sort of injury. Even if it was hardly likely that Khepri had even hit herself that hard.

“Yes, yes- Kaanga.” She smiled, and sat herself down, although she kept her forelegs up and leaned against a rock. The fact that she was of some kind of rank in the pride was lost upon her. To Kaanga- she was simply the odd one. Even mother didn’t understand her- but, that was alright. Kaanga made herself oblivious to things that troubled her.

“Who are you? Not one of Kaanga’s sisters or aunts.” It seemed like in this pride, everyone was related to her. It was rather exciting to physically speak to someone who was not. “But- good not to be hurting your head! Why did you smack it? You have to be good to your head, or it won’t be good to you.”

An idea struck her- "Was it a flea? I had one once."

"Mah 'ead has the nasty problem o' speakin' to meh when Ah don' wanna be spoken to. Specially since it's crazy. Yo' know?" Khepri offered in return, knowing full well that Kaanga wouldn't really get it.

No, no they weren't related at all, how could she think that? Though, it wasn't as if all the cubs knew one another, Khepri herself had only just met Kidondo and Koka the other week.

"No. Yo're mah princess. Ah'm nothin' but an undahlin' tha'll be a huntress if Ah even stay here. Bu' yo' can call me Khepri." Khepri responded slowly, she didn't want to give any firekin other than who needed to know the knowledge that Khepri would one day leave.

"A flea? No... but Ah've never seen one, wha're they like?" She asked, her ears pricking up as her tarnished golden eyes latched onto Kaanga.

Kaanga couldn’t help but giggle softly at the word princess. It was used so often, and yet its meaning and purpose had never really settled down upon the white creature’s head. Perhaps it was simply an after-effect of quite the peculiar firekin, but more likely, it was simply Kaanga’s way of being Kaanga. The creature swayed herself to the left in a grand display, her bright yellow eyes flashing.

“A flea-“ She started, dragging out the ‘e’ sound. “-is like a grain of sand that bites you. It is sand, I think. Sometimes the sand gets tired of being sand- you know? Then it tries to bite, and Kaanga has seen it jumps very high too. But you can shoo it away with scratching. Or at least, they sometimes do, and it goes back to being sand again.”

She nodded her head rather ‘as-a-matter-of-factly’ and curled her tail. “But, Kaanga–“ She stopped, and pursed her lips. “Kaanga...is no different then you- so, no worries.” She spoke, quickly attempting to dismiss the princess ideal- mostly out of fear that she would leave. Ashki seemed to have been too concerned with her status for him to really speak with her...

"No, Ah don' worry abou' if yo're a princess or not. Ah don' care. Jus' nice ta know who yo're talkin' to. Ya know?" Khepri said slowly, opening up a little to the nicer female Firekin before her. The fact that Kaanga was predominantly white rather than red made Khepri wonder if white fur had some kind of lessening effect on the wickedness that came from deep down in the hearts of all Firekin.

It was a theory since she herself had quite a bit of white on her.

"The sand don' wanna be sand no more? So it attacks ya an' makes yo' itch?" Khepri decided that she didn't like the sound of that at all and using one of her claws she scratched the bottom of her white jaw lightly. Just the thought of something making her itch that came from the sand was enough to make her itch all over for no apparent reason.

Kaanga smiled brightly and nodded her head. “Kaanga’s other friend- he was a little nervous of Kaanga...” She lowered her eyes. Hopefully he would find what he was looking for... But Kaanga returned to her sand tangent. “Yes, it just doesn’t want to be sand anymore- you know? Sometimes things don’t want to be what they are anymore. So they have to do something totally different so that they see what it’s like to be something else. Sand is always getting burrowed into by bugs, so Kaanga thinks some sand wants to be like the bugs. So the sand just stops being bugs, and it jumps into the air.”

Satisfied in her silly tale, the seer nodded her head sagely. She had hit something right. That much she knew...sometimes, she dreamed about things that happened...

Shyly, Kaanga giggled and pressed her paw to her face. “But, that’s only what I think.”

"Hm, well yo' don' gotta worry abou' mah bein' nervous. Ah don' get nervous." Khepri said after a long moment. Sometimes admitting things about one's self was hard, but other times when it came to this... well it was relatively easy.

Easy because you're weak.

Because you're a fool.

Shaking her red head sharply, Khepri made it look like she was responding to what Kaanga had said about bugs and looked down at the sand all around her paws. If there were something threatening to come up from the sand at her, then that was just as creepy as the fact that she heard the voices in her head insulting her on a regular basis.

"So they come outta the ground?" Khepri asked, making a face. "Tha's weird."

Reaching out a paw, the cub batted at Kaanga's own paw on her head playfully. "Why would anythin' yo' thin' of be bad? It's bettah than wha' Ah woullda come up with."

Kaanga smiled. “Hee....not too many people think what Kaanga says is important. That’s the first time anyone has ever listened to Kaanga! Sometimes she has dreams about things like that. I didn’t dream about the sand- but, well. No that’s not right either. I dream about sand, but not flea-sand. Sometimes I dream about rocks too, and lions I don’t know.” She giggled. “But mostly people tell Kaanga that she is silly, and not too talk about silly things.”

She appreciated the light touch to her head. It was rare that the female made physical contact with anyone, let alone another child. It made her squirm, and gently run a small circle around the other female.

“You said your head likes to talk to you?” She peeped. “What sorta things does Khepri’s head say?”

Watching as Kaanga ran around her in a circle, Khepri felt something inside of her gruff core soften a little and she nodded to the princess softly. To know that someone had strange dreams to her voices made her feel a little warm inside, it was pleasant knowing that she wasn't going completely insane, or at least if she was she wasn't alone.

"Ya shouldn' listen to those tha' tell ya the things ya see or hear aren' important. If they're important to yo' then they're important." Khepri said sagely, nodding her head.

Crap!

The girl knows!

Run away! She'll tell someone!

"They tell meh mean things, things Ah'd rather not know abou' mahself. Yo' know? Ah just wish they'd go away." The female hung her head sadly, her eyes closed as she frowned a little.

The small creature stopped her movement and settled, taking the matter rather seriously. Which was a new thing for the white female. “Can you make them be quiet? Kaanga says for them to be quiet.” She frowned, but doubted that would hold any kind of pull on them. “Do you know who says it? Is it you? Or is it someone else in Khepri’s head?”

Had she dreamed about this? It was so hard to tell. Kaanga couldn’t really understand what her dreams meant, or even if they had a possibility of being real. For her, they were all simply things she mused about. Not real coherent thought, or some kind of substantial inkling. She did hope, however, that perhaps she could think of something to do about them...

“Kaanga...” She pursed, thinking. “I will think about them. Sometimes I get good ideas...”

"Ah don' know who they are. Ah just know that they aren' meh." Khepri admitted at last, her head still hanging. To admit that while she knew many things about everyone else but not that much about herself scathed the small female to no end.

Lifting her tarnished golden eyes, Khepri watched Kaanga for a long moment, confused about what she saw in the white princess' eyes. But when she stopped speaking in the third person, the female's ears pricked up and she leaned her red head to the side slightly.

"If yo' want to, Ah don' wanna intrude on yo're thoughts ya know." Khepri said softly.

If only she knew more! But really, Kaanga knew enough to know she knew nothing. In fact- she probably knew less then most people were born knowing. The adleminded creature shifted nervously and creased her brow. “It is not a trouble for Kaanga- she just wishes...she had an answer for Khepri. I’ve never heard of someone speaking in someone’s head before.”

Again, she repeated it- “I will think- Kaanga isn’t very smart, but maybe someone else knows and Kaanga might remember who they are. I don’t know things well- but I can remember little things.” The seer spoke. “It will help, I hope.”

“What do your parents say?” She squeaked.

"Nah, yo're smarta then a lot o' the lions Ah've met in a long time. A lot more considerate too." A chuckle worked its way from Khepri's muzzle and she batted out at Kaanga gently in order to get her to lighten up. "There's a lot o' stuff wrong with mah head. Mah parrents don' quite know wha's wrong wit' meh. Only tha' Ahm jus' crazy."

Leaning her head to one side, Khepri put her paw on her own head and frowned gently. Maybe there was some sort of way that she could get rid of them.

"Yo' think the Ela' migh' know wha's wrong with me?" She asked in a small voice. She knew that the Ela' were in tune with spirits, she'd heard some of the Firekin that had returned from the savannah talking about it.
