"Mmkay, thith- thisss is Gabriel again, and today iths... what'th today?"
"Sixth of October, twenty-ten, Gabriel.
"Right! Today'ths October thi- thi- thssssithsss!! That meanth Halloween ithssoon!! But I don't get to have fun, 'cauthse Damien'sss makin' me do homeworkth..."
"It'll only take a moment, and certainly won't interfere with Halloween... Whatever.
"1: What is the name of the parent that you picked to study this time around?"
"Uhh... I remember, wait... 'Cauthe Damien read it to me before... right!! Hith name wasss Pagiel. He'th the angel of Patienthe!!"
"Correct. Next:
"2: What is the Virtue or Vice of the creature? Or was the one your studying a Neutral? Or is it Reshmi who doesn't fall into any of those categories?"
"He'th a virtue, I think. That'th the good one, though I don't think that pride ith really a bad thing, mythelf... but I gueth that'th not a thurprithe. Whatever! Oh, right, he'th patienthe."
"Maybe try to say it like 'surprise' and 'patience'...
"3: What made you pick this person? Was it because you were more curious about them? Or was it something else?"
"Dun'no why, really. I th- sssaw a picture of him and wanted to learn more, or thomething? Not really, though. Damien and Cat thaid I had to do thith too. I think it'th dumb, tho they jussst picked it for me."
"It's probably taking longer for you to complain about it than if you just did it really quick, Gabriel. Now:
"4: From the photo do you see anything right away that reminds you of you? Answer Yes or No."
"Yesss."
"5: Name at least one thing you have in common with the one that your studying up on today."
"Oh, lotth!! I mean, lotsss!! We've got the thame rainbowsss in our hair, the thame black in our hair, kinda thimilar eyesss, but mine are red instead of pinkish. I've got hith butterfly wingsss, too, but I've got mine on top of my head inthtead of on my back! And hisss wingth are torn like mine, too."
"Sorry...
"6: From the reference material do you find that it sounds as though you have anything in common with this creature that isn't something physical? Answer Yes or No."
"Yesss."
"7: If you answered yes, what is it you have in common with the one your studying up on today other then physical traits?"
"I know that I can calm people down when I talk to them for long enough, ssso that'th good, I gueth. I don't think I'm tho light that I could get jutht carried away, though. That ssseemsss sssilly."
"8: What is it that you find the most interesting the one your studying today be it something physical or perhaps a skill that they might have."
"I like that he hath tho many rainbowsss. Mine are better, but hith are ssstill good. He would alssso make a really good girl."
"9: If you had one question you could ask of this person what might it be?"
"What doesss emp-a-the-tic mean?"
"Empathetic means that, uh, you can feel the emotions of others clearly. So, um, if I was sad, you'd be able to feel how sad. It's like sympathy... on steroids.

Gabriel's costume wasn't anything fancy or special. Well... actually, that was a lie, considering it was Gabriel, and anything so much as around him had to be either fancy or special. The costume that he and his father had gone and picked out was a Peter Pan costume, one that was more original than the usual green hat, tunic, and tights combination. Instead, they had actually rented a costume -with money!- from a small theatre shop. It was an outfit in a dark red, shimmering fabric with fake Autumn leaves strewn about it. Beneath it he wore a pair of red tights, and on his head was a crown that he'd made of discarded branches and leaves that he found on the way home - it wasn't much, and it certainly didn't compare to the things that Damien made, but it was good none-the-less.
But he had, however, reached a dilemma. That is, he was going to be going with Fifth to the Facility for their little Halloween party thing, something that he'd heard about while working there one day, and thought it would be a nice change of pace for the twins. As such, he had told Gabriel, who promptly needed a costume. But that was when the real issue came into play: What about Damien?
'What about me?' Damien had thought sullenly as he watched his brother prance around in that atypical costume. As much as he hadn't minded reading that story to Gabriel, which in turn inspired him to dress up like that, he was extremely resistant to having a costume himself. Nothing would look good on him, he protested, or he'd just mess it up with his stupid tail or his stupid claws or his stupid face. On the other hand, both Fifth and Gabriel seemed very excited to attend this strange Hallow's Eve get-together, and he didn't want to disappoint them by being a downer. Plus, he was very reluctant to be at the apartment when Fifth wasn't around.
So, eventually, he had given in. Cooped up in his little nook in their room, Damien carefully sketched out his idea for a costume, reflective of one of the few things he actually liked: a wind-up mechanical doll. Of course, he had no idea how to make it, and even if he did, sewing was completely out of the question with those claws of his. So he scrambled out of his corner, a large piece of construction paper in his hand, and walked up to his brother. He tapped him demurely on the shoulder and then, eyes lowered, held up his sketches. "C-Could you or Dad mebbe help me make this costume?"

From the Desk of Cat Rowley As much as they both grate on my nerves in their own ways, I suppose I should be grateful for the two twins that find themselves in my care more often than not (at least Damien). I never really saw myself having kids, but these two have grown on me, and I find myself compelled to care for them, given their extremely unfortunate living circumstances. Plus part of me doubts their father's raising capabilities. I mean sure, he's raised probably dozens of little Eilian children, but all under a very, very different set of rules. These two, Damien and Gabriel, actually belong to him, and I'm sure that Fifth is very protective of them from all the predators in the gang.
Heh, in fact, I KNOW that he's protective of them; it was for the longest time that I got the death glare from him whenever I brought Damien home, as if I had done terrible TERRIBLE things to him when he showed up at my doorstep. I mean, I realize that I was raised in the same gang and the terrible things it condones, but that was a long time ago. Heh, and doesn't Fifth know it...?
But anyway, I seem to be worming my way back into his trust, a feat that I consider rather amazing. Fifth now allows me to watch BOTH of his children, and even half-forces them on me on occasion. And when I bring them back, he no longer snarls at me and slams the door in my face (well, at least not immediately). Nope, we joke and prod at each other like we were, oh I don't know, less than two very old people who knew each other eons and eons ago and haven't talked to each other in about that long. Really, I think it's amazing, although the leaving gets harder and harder every time. I mean, Fifth really makes kind of an adorable parent, with his worrying and overprotective and whathaveyou. He's doing a marvelous job, and anyone who gives me credit is wrong; I'm just a glorified babysitter. And perhaps I'm looking too far into this - wishful thinking and years of loneliness sometimes have that effect - but perhaps we're growing closer as the days go on? I don't know. I hope so.
...this was supposed to be about Gabriel and Damien, wasn't it? Um, they're good too.

This Calls for a Celebration
That was the decision that Fifth Avenue had made. That morning, his sons had found themselves another growth larger, meaning that a birthday of sorts would be a good thing to celebrate with - at least, that's what Fifth believed. Of course, almost as soon as they were conscious, Gabriel was out the door, shouting something about Ilyrosa. Fifth could only chuckle at the boy's persistence; he'd get her in the end, that was for sure. And the only alternate would have to be completely debilitating, because there wasn't a chance of him giving up at this rate.
The first surprise that day was Fifth getting his paycheck in the mail. He about swallowed his tongue at the amount, very thankful for the fact he had a job at all, especially one that paid him well and paid him consistently.
Until the evening, however, the day went along as boring as it usually was, a few fires, a lot of yelling, many arguments, teaching small gang children about the way the world worked. And then came dinner time. The horrible time of day when everyone was miserable and many people left to try and dig through dumpsters in the hopes of getting lucky and finding something that hadn't had time to rot yet.
But not tonight. Tonight, things would be better. With only thirty dollars left to his name following the purchase, his arms were filled as much as they could be with Chinese food of every variety. Fifth couldn't count as high as the amount of boxes that he was carrying, and he was attacked as soon as he entered the front room. Eyes widening, he let the boxes fall away, keeping only one specific bag with himself as he wiggled through the swarm of hungry gang members, nudging his way into the twins room.
"Hey there kiddies. Got a birthday present for the both'a you~"
Damien had heard the chaos outside their room, and had assumed that his dad had brought home a feast or something. His stomach grumbled at the smell of it, but he didn't want to be caught in the rush, so he waited. For once, it wasn't that hard; the little machine he was designed captured his attention, holding it like little else could. In his tiny nook of the room, cut off from those painful mirrors by cozy blankets and peppered with designs and drawings from various steampunk websites, it was easy to forget that there was a world out those blankets. There was only him and his creations...
But then the food was suddenly much closer, and the delicious scent drew him out of his 'cave'. Damien poked his head out, sniffing curiously before seeing the mysterious and enticing bag in his father's hand. His wings perked up happily, and he scrambled out of his nook. "Really? Wh-What is that? It smells delicious, is it Chinese food? B-Because that's what it smells like." He was practically drooling in anticipation.

1: What is the name of the parent that you picked to study this time around? Vilo.
2: What is the Virtue or Vice of the creature? Or was the one you're studying a Neutral? Or is it Reshmi who doesn't fall into any of these categories? The Sin Wrath.
3: What made you pick this person? Was it because you were more curious about them? Or was it something else? I already learned about Cestoloria, my virtuous parent. I had no other choice but to choose her this time around.
4: From the photo do you see anything right away that reminds you of you? Yes.
5: Name at least one thing you have in common with the one that you're studying up today. The red, gold, and black along my skin, although mine are in thin stripes. Long claws, even though mine are black. Fangs, although mine are smaller. Tail, although I don't have any spikes. Orange eyes with slit pupils, except I only have one orange eye.
6: From the reference material do you find that it sounds as though you have anything in common with this creature that isn't something physical? I'm not sure... Yeah, I guess.
7: If you answered yes, what is it you have in common with the one you're studying up on today other than physical traits? Well, I am wrathful like she is, and grow very impatient with people. I also have the ability to poison people, though I don't know if that counts as physical or not...
8: What is it that you find the most interesting the one you're studying today, be it something physical or perhaps a skill they might have? Her speed, I suppose.
9: If you had one question you could ask of this person, what might it be? Um... Where are your clothes? o///0;;

Foxy Momma Part I
DS was thankfully without her kid for once. She was taking a much needed break while his 'uncle' took him to some movie. She didn't do movies. Too crowded, to smelly, and too loud. What she prefered was the park and that's where she was. Stretching herself out and cracking her back she went on her daily run. Greg gave them money but old habbits died hard.
It was a nice warm day and she was out on her runs.
She had her little stash all set up. No one ever suspected a fox of stealing anything but chickens. Smirking to herself she dove back in and pulled out her bag, putting the pendant back on. Once she regained her human shape she headed back toward her apartment but one of her apples rolled out. She was too busy focusing on that to look where she was heading.
Boredom on his day off had led Fifth to where he was now. His growing-up-too-fast children were busy with their respective dates ( as much as Damien would deny liking that child, you could practically see the hearts floating out of him whenever Cheyenne was brought up ). As such, he had the fun of practicing his free running all over the park, though he focused on the playground for a good portion of the time.
Green eyes caught sight of a familiar face while he was hanging from the limb of a tree. Dropping his legs from the branch and then dropping to the ground, he grinned slightly. Wiping the sweat from his brow, he sauntered over to the distracted foxy female, hooking one of her fingers with his own and twirling her to face him. "Tell me, my dear, haven't I seen you somewhere before?"
That freakin' apple was making her growl rather distastefully. She was after it and trying not to spill the rest of her bag when all the sudden she was twirled and faced to face with someone's sweaty chest. Her first instict was the slug the s**t out of him and she did. Her fist contacted with his chest (rather hard) as she jerked her head up to growl at him. She stopped instantly when she saw just WHO she'd hit. "Oh s**t!" She swore dropping her fist. "I didn't know it was you! What the hell you thinkin' grabbin' someone like that?"
Fifth staggered slightly at the blow to his chest, knocking a bit of the air out of his chest. Thanks to the contrast in their sizes, however, it didn't do a whole lot more than that, and he chuckled as he rubbed the area that had been hit. He bit his tongue to keep from laughing further at her angered reaction, lion's tail swaying from side-to-side behind him. "Well, I was /hoping/ to surprise you. Though I suppose I accomplished that, just not quite how I had been hoping to~"
"Is this how you greet all your student's guardians?" She questioned with a sarcastic bite to her voice. She righted her bag in her arms and leaned back to glance around. The classic signs of a person who'd done something they weren't supposed to. "Listen, Puss, as much as I enjoyed beating you down. I don't know if you know who you're trying to sweep of her feet. I don't fall for prince charmings." She turned purposely gliding her tail over his chest. "Now, do you have some reason to be trying to woo me?"
"Well, since you're the only one I've actually met, I'd call that a resounding 'yes'," he replied easily, oblivious to her suspicious movements. He adjusted his wings, leaning back slightly at the tail drawn across his chest and fluffing his feathers up indignantly. "Oh you don't, do you? Good thing that 'prince charming' would probably be the last thing anyone would describe me as," he joked, rolling his eyes and crossing his arms as the air's chill started effect him and his lack of movement. "Besides, I honestly just miss having other adult friends. Between work and taking care of a giant family, I don't get the chance to talk to anyone over eighteen who isn't a FacilityBot."
"You mean parents just drop those brats off there without meeting the teachers? Pft, and I'm called irresponsible because I let the runt stay up as late as he wants." She looked back at the lion, flicking her tail and smirking at him. "Oh? Well that makes me feel so much better knowing I'm your only option. Here I was thinking you sought me out purposely."
"Yep. You're the first I've actually seen face-to-face. Mind you, a lot of my students are preteens or teenagers, but even the children are usually unaccompanied," he said with a smile and an easy shrug of his broad shoulders. He stuck his tongue out teasingly at her mock-insulted tone of voice. "I dun'no. Wouldn't it have been a little creepy if i just /happened/ to find you at this park while deliberately seeking you out?" he offered, waggling his eyebrows. "So where are you headed? Wouldn't mind accompanying you there."
"I don't let my kid go anywhere without an adult. Too many damned humans around. If he's not with me or Greg then there's a problem." She tilted her head back, flattening her ears. "Mmm, maybe. I was headed home. I just got supplies and I don't have time to waste to get them home." She glanced back again. "My kid isn't home, if you're wondering. He's with his uncle."
Fifth chuckled in amusement. "Not a truster of featherless and furless, are you?" he questioned, shrugging his shoulders a bit. "I've never been the protective sort myself. Then again, I've never really been the parent sort myself. But my boys can take care of themselves; Damien's got poisonous teeth and claws nearly six inches long, and if Gabby isn't with him, he's with his wrath-based girlfriend, protected either way," he explained idly, a strange nagging voice hoping that he wasn't embarrassing himself.
"Then I'd be glad to escort you," Fifth replied with a charming smile, gesturing for DS to lead the way. "Actually, I hadn't been wondering at all; didn't think it would concern me."
"I don't trust anyone. You wouldn't either." She stated moving forward. "Devan would go into a car of a stranger if he was asked. He's too trusting. If they told him that he should jump off a bridge he'd do it. No way I'm leaving him alone." Her ears twitched as she looked over her shoulder. "s**t." She hissed under her breath and grabbed his arm pulling him off the path. A few moments later a few police went by and she craned her head to look after him. "Maybe, maybe not. Depends on how much of a charmer you are." She said slipping back out of the trees.
"Trust me, I don't," Fifth reassured her, though he was unsure why. His ears flicked back when he was tugged into the shadows, and he went quiet, green eyes followed the uniformed men angrily. "I have the luck of a pair of kids who know better than to trust the masses, especially after the way they were raised. Damien's violent nature is also a plus on that front," he added thoughtfully, following the woman when she slipped out from behind the trees. He raised his eyebrows, unable to keep the grin from his face. "Is that so? Well, I'll try not to lay it on too thick then~"
She was glad he didn't question her. She moved down the path again. "That would be a good idea. Well, its good but at the same time. That kid can take just about anything." She lead them to a small apartment on the outskirts of town. She opened the door and looked back at him before her tail wagged to beckon him inside. It was small, kind of messy but still a home though a small one. She kicked a few toys out of the way and dropped her bag on the counter. "Not much. Make yourself at home. You drink, lion boy?"
Fifth only nodded absently to the reply that he got, making little more than idle conversation the rest of the way back to the woman's apartment. The Eilian was a bit surprised at, well, how close the woman's apartment was to the one that he lived in. He walked in casually, not seeming to be phased by the simplicity of the place ( though he did have to duck to get through the doorfram ), and took a seat where a seat was available. "Not opposed, but I haven't been able to afford it in a while. What're you offering?"
DS pulled out an amount of alcohol that would make an alcoholic think he'd gone to heaven. "I mix drinks." She responded and began to do just that. She put a few drinks together and put the glass on the table with a heavy thud. "Drink that and you will grow fur on that chest of yours." She responded sitting down and across from him and sipping at hers. "How'd you wind up at the facility?"
A grin spread easily across Fifth's golden-tan face at the offer, nodding a couple times. "Sounds better than other offers I've gotten," he replied, tail flicking about in a rather excited manner as he tried to keep his wings from taking up half of the room. He raised a skeptic brow at the idea of anything putting hair on his chest after his many different ordeals. He sipped at the powerful drink a bit, looking impressed before addressing the conversation. "Ah, happenstance, mostly. I was lucky that they were hiring a time that I walked past is all. The kids were, lucky for me, a 'perk'. Freakin' Vampy and his sadism."
"Ah, that makes sense. Vampy? I've never met him. To be honest I only met the receptionist. The two of us have never gone back." She stood up and approached the Gryphon. "So why are you really here do I have to guess?" She asked leaning against table near him.
"Yeah, Vampy's the guy who's running the whole operation. By my experience with him, he's a bit of a jackass; he forced that set of twins on me willy-nilly and expected me to keep working for him," Fifth grumbled irritably, tail lashing a bit behind him. The only thing he really liked about that place was the fact that they paid him, and they paid him more than minimum wage ( even if he didn't work anywhere full-time ).
"Oh? Do I have to have some kind of ulterior motive?" Fifth asked, smirking softly and leaning back before bracing himself and downing almost all of his drink, hissing at the burning sensation that made his eyes water. "Whose to say I'm not just here for company's sake? You're certainly fun to talk to~"
"Is he a vampire?" She asked setting down her drink. "Well if you ask me sounds like a real jackass. My friend signed me up for Dev and needless to say when I saw what rags the brat was in and how unhappy he looked... Well I wasn't going to leave a kit like him with people who treat him like that."
She gave a snort. "Am I? Most people take a hike as soon as I flash my teeth let alone say a damned word."
Fifth chuckled and shook his head. "Nah, he's not a vampire. From what I can tell, though, I think he might be some form of Satan or another. White hair, yellow eyes, often offers peoples 'contracts', especially when they talk about wanting something," Fifth replied with a roll of his eyes, finished off the drink and letting out a content sigh as that warm feeling started to crawl from his stomach. "I don't blame you. I had when my kids run around that place; I keep thinking someone's gon'na grab one of 'em and start running tests on them again.
"Pfft. Have you seen the teeth and claws I've got myself? If I were scared of your's, I'd run from my own reflection. Besides, I've certainly dealt with people nastier than you," he said, idly playing with the glass on the table, a charming glint to his green eyes. "It helps that you're not nasty to begin with."
"That wouldn't surprise me. Virtues? Sins? Sounds like they've got something going on that they shouldn't. Devan hates that place. He says he wants to be a gargoyle. Saw them on TV."
The woman smirks slightly. "Nastier? I'm not so sure about that, Puss. I got a temper. I won't deny that. I like you, Puss." She said giving him a small hit to the shoulder. "You're not as much of a bird brain as I thought."
"Oh, definitely more than a little suspicious. So long as they're feeding the government, though, I'm sure no one will look into it," he replied in a a very anarachial way, rolling his eyes and leaning back in the chair, looking up at DS and chuckle softly. "A gargoyle, eh? Sounds like a good dream to have. My kids weren't given a chance to be scared'a that place. They got'ta be there every day or so, after all, 'specially when they were smaller."
Fifth chuckled and smiled at the woman. "Oh, trust me, I've got a temper, too, as easygoing as I may seem. If someone gets on my badside, they're well aware of it. At least, for the remainder of the time they're alive," he chuckled at the hit, lifting her hand away from his shoulder carefully, being sure to meet her eyes as he did so. "Well, I told you I wasn't that much of a bird-brain, didn't it?"
The fox sat on the table right in front of his chair, her tail sweeping his glass out of her way. "He won't go back. He was terrified of going to your class."
She her hand fall away as she glanced toward another part of the room. "Sounds like you're my kinda guy, Puss. A lot of my type of guy." She made sure he witnessed her slowly looking him up and down. "And so long as you mind your claws, I'll mind mine. Though I can't promise anything."
"Oof. Might have a bit of a struggle with that. They expect a butt-ton of classes out of those poor kids. If you call ahead, though, they might let you get away with having them outside or... something..." Fifth trailed off as the woman took a seat on the table itself, wings ruffling a bit in a mixture of surprise and perhaps a bit of nervousness. Wait, nervousness? Why would he be nervous?
"Am I really?" he asked, leaning back and linking his hands behind his head in a relaxed way that allowed him to show off his muscular chest in a way that was as transparent as a teenage boy's come-on. He flexed his claws slightly, smirk broadening. "Oh, I can see about arranging that, that's for sure."
"Its alright. You don't scare him so maybe he'll get used to the place." She flicked her ears forward, green eyes glinting in a way only a fox could pull off. "After all, I trust you and that's saying something." She watched him lean back and let the conversation fall. They were busy working on another one. She took a good eyeful of his chest before putting a single claw on the center. "So tell me Puss, did you come here for small talk? Or see if the fox was really a vixen?"
"Oh do you? That's something that I haven't heard in a while," the gryphon replied with a soft smile, tail swaying behind him. The smirk wouldn't leave his face, wings flicking out slightly before wrapping around the table loosely, easily encompassing the table, not yet raising themselves high enough to cover the two in shadow, though that was their eventual intention. He chuckled softly at the question and the claw pressed to his chest. "Does it have to be one or the other? If I say both, I look neither like a creep or a loser, after all, don't I?"
DS looked midly amused at the wings still playing it off as though it were normal to have a tall winged lion/eagle man in her kitchen. "I suppose... though I can't say I'm adverse to either. You're the first person in this city to attract my interest Mr. Avenue. That's a rarity in its self. I'm not much to look at as far as girls go. But I can give one helluva night."
Fifth was proud of himself for having not knocked anything over yet, considering the combination of his large stature and the apartment's diminutive size. Regardless, it was still much better than where he lived. Sure, it was bigger, but the space per person was about a square foot, and it seemed that there were always people passed out all over the front room. It certainly made it hard for him to attempt any kind of relationship; but so did the fact that he shared his room with his twins.
"In this entire city? Is that so?" he asked with a chuckle, removing her hand from his chest and laying a kiss on the back of it, though the smirk made it apparent that the purpose was more to make her squirm that to be seriously romantic. "Trust me; in women, I'm not looking for the same thing most men are," he replied, standing and placing his hands on either side of her on the table, leaning on the table so they were at eye-level with each other, the smirk wicked in it's intent on his face, wings casting soft shadows over the both of them. "And with that fiery temper of your's, I'm absolutely /sure/ that you would give me a night I'd never forget..."
She smirked at him and tugged her hand away. "Then what are you looking for in a woman?" She questioned slyly. Her cool demonor crumbled slightly as her tail began to brush quickly against the table. She let her slightly sharpened canines show as she gave a smile. "Oh, now I see what you're interested in. I can promise you that much, Puss. I bet you're just a regular lion in bed, yourself."
