Yet another class to be held, something that Fifth always looked forward to. Today, the class that he was holding was a bit late in the day, around 5:30 PM. However, he had no reason to be home, for once. His sons -both of them grown old enough to be working, at least by the standards of living that Mister Vampy had unceremoniously forced upon them when he gave them to a gang leader- were out at a warehouse, where they would spend the entire day, until rather far into the night, packing and moving boxes in the hopes of getting more money for food for the lot of them. He was expected to feed the damn boys when he could barely feed himself, let alone the rest of the people that he was trying to support. Stupid Vampy and his stupid...
"Augh!!" Fifth groaned to himself, digging the palms of his large golden hands into his face and thrashing his wings around wildly. That was the last thing that he needed to be worrying about at this point in time. The child he was going to be teaching - it was his first skills class. Also, Fifth couldn't for the life of him, figure out to say his name. Even the tech who had been helping him couldn't figure it out, though Fifth's illiteracy was certainly no help in the matter.
Also, he was mostly deaf. That was something that was a help to him in this situation, as it gave him something to teach the boy. Though he, himself, had no knowledge of sign language, he did have a skill that he hoped would be useful: Lip reading. That, and he did know his ABCs and which sounded like what. Conveniently, the tech that helped with his classes had helped him get a chalkboard and had written the letters from A to Z on it. A good starting place if ever there was one.

The large plodding, reptilian feet of the bigger-than-normal child thudded and clicked down the halls of the facility. His usual emotionless expression masked his excitement to be back inside these walls. This is where he first heard The Perfect Voice and he hoped that this excursion would prove fruitful in his search for its owner. His two-colored eyes glanced quickly from door to door, most of which remained closed to him. He was given specific instructions to not go anywhere but the room in which his class was held. But what was the harm in looking? He was a curious child, after all.
Eventually, but far too quickly for his liking, he came to the open door of the class room. He sighed quietly to himself before knocking on the door, announcing his arrival. Stepping into the doorway, he bowed, like a perfect little gentleman in perfect speech, "Good evening, my name is Ciúin, and I am here for my class, Mr. Avenue, sir." He'd read on the class instructions his instructor's name and the directions to the place, but that was about it.
He raised, his near-unblinking stare taking Fifth's image into memory. He wondered, and hoped that this... person was the owner of The Perfect Voice. Fifth definitely looked like he'd be the owner of an interesting voice if not The Voice.
Ciúin remained in the doorway until he was invited in, it was rude to enter without permission.

Fifth's green eyes slowly lifted from the ground at the sound of the door opening. He blinked a couple times, tipping his head to the side at the fact that the boy stayed outside. Wow; he spoke very well for a boy who was partially deaf, didn't he? Fifth smiled a bit and chuckled softly, shaking his head and wondering if he needed to start specifying for the kids to not call him by his... 'last' name, especially considering it was just as much his first name as 'Anne' was to 'Mary-Anne'.
"Call me Fifth, please," was the first thing that he said, getting to his feet and gesturing for the boy to come in when he hadn't. "You're... uh... how do you say your name exactly?" he asked sheepishly, giving the boy an awkward smile.

Ciúin stared at him, not quite understanding what Fifth was trying to say to him. Without the aid of hand signs or gestures, he was at a loss. So, he was a little relieved when Fifth gave a motion for him to come inside. His black claws ticked on the tile as he plodded methodically forward, stopping a respectable distance from him.
The Gluttony spawn was a little disappointed thus far. This was most certainly not the owner of The Perfect Voice. Fifth was also apparently unaware that Ciúin couldn't hear like normal people. With a sigh, he decided to state his name again, in case Fifth had thought him some other spawn and didn't hear him the first time. "My name is Ciúin, sir. C-i-ú-i-n, pronounced Ki, like a key and lock, and yoon, rhymes with noon. I am afraid that I have hearing problems outside of water as well." Hopefully that helped sort things out.

Fifth flicked one of his ears forward to listen to what the boy was saying, nodding in understanding. Despite the fact that the boy was apparently hard of hearing, he was amazing at speaking. After all, the few deaf people that the gryphon had met were hard to understand, mumbling everything and allowing their words to slur together. Ciúin, however, spoke perfectly and without much fault. Perhaps that was what Fifth didn't quite understand that the child was as hard of hearing as had been stated on his report. Maybe he should listen to those instead of making his own assumptions.
"Yes, of course, Ciúin. Thank you very much," Fifth said, speaking softly and making sure that his mouth was visible to the boy at all times, so maybe he would have a bit more of a chance to understand him. How he was going to explain the lesson without being able to write was completely and totally beyond him. With gestures similar to opening a book and looking it over, followed by pointing to the boy, he asked: "You can read, right?"

Neither the techs nor his adoptive mother could explain Ciúin's phenomenal ability to speak eloquently. He'd just came out that way. Awkward to say, but true. I may have been something to do with the way he was formed in water. He could hear PERFECTLY in water. But it was anyone's guess.
Ciúin nodded, "Yes, I can read." He was pretty sure, that's what Fifth had asked.

Fifth was struggling in his attempts to speak with this boy, between one's illiteracy and the other's deafness. Together, it was like communication between the deaf and the blind; nearly impossible. He gave the boy a thumbs up, hoping that the kid would understand why he wasn't going to be able to explain the class to him with how much trouble they were already having communicating. Speaking slowly, he stated: "Going to start now."
It was driving the gryphon crazy to not be as wordy as he usually was, along with not being able to explain what they were doing. Alas, if this class went the way that he was hoping that it would go, he would be able to explain what was going on faster. So, moving to his chalkboard and gesturing for Ciúin to follow him toward it, he got the laser pointer that he'd borrowed from Cat, using it to gesture at the first letter. 'A'. "Ay," he stated simply and slowly, before doing it again, pausing in the middle of the letter while using over-exaggerated facial movements, the better to show the way that the letter looked when it was spoken.

What was he doing? Ciúin already knew his ABCs. It was one of the first things he learned when he was brought into Moira's home. He wanted to say something, but deemed it rude. He'll just calmly sit through the lesson. He followed Fifth closer to the chalkboard.
It was slowly starting to click for Ciúin when Fifth began to repeat letters Ciúin already knew with exaggerated facial expressions. Oh, so he was supposed to learn how to read lips? That makes more sense now, he thought. He watched Fifth intently, concentrating on the griffin's lip movements. "Ay," Ciúin repeated, when he was pretty certain he memorized how the letter looked when it was spoken.

Fifth could tell from the look on the boy's face that he didn't quite understand what the man was going on about, but he pushed on, hoping that it would make sense after a little bit. Luckily enough, a dawning realization overtook Ciúin's face and the gryphon smiled in relief, nodding a couple times when the boy repeated the letter. Sure, doing this would be a slow way of learning and it was likely that people would need to start out by talking slower to him, but that was part of the lesson as well. At least he would be able to piece conversation together after this.
"Bee," he said afterward, pointing to the next letter with a nod, doing the same thing that he had done with A until Ciúin made it clear that he knew how to do that as well. From there, he went on to C and so on, through the entire alphabet, making sure to cover all of the ways each could be said. Or, at least, trying to remember to do that.

Ciúin watched his teacher intently, making sure he was getting a hold of all the subtle movements of his mouth. They managed to get through the entire alphabet with only a few snags here of there. Some of the letters kinda looked the same to him at times.
"Zee," he repeated after the last letter was uttered by Fifth. Ciúin blinked, the first time he had since they had started, and looked away from his teacher for a moment, so his eyes could refocus. "Can I learn how words look now?" He asked, eager to learn so he could be part of conversations.

Fifth grinned at how well his pupil was picking up on the lesson, wings relaxed to either side, the edges of his feathers skimming against the floor. He nodded a couple times at the question, slipping away from the now-useless chalk board and taking a seat across from his pupil, speaking slowly in the most polite way that he could.
"Alright. Sorry if I am speaking too slowly. Simply trying to get you used to the different mouth movements that come with reading lips," he explained smoothly, making slightly overexagurated mouth movements for the time being, just to make sure that he didn't get confused by the way that combined sounds had slightly different mouth movements. "Anything you would like to talk about?"
