Today was not shaping up to be a good day. Well...

No, no, it really wasn't.

For one, Silas and Noah had finally -finally- left on their honeymoon, after being waaay too touchy-feely for quite a few weeks. Two, Lirona was pregnant. Pregnant!! Like, with a baby and everything!! A baby that was his!! As such, there were a few changes that needed to be made. The main one: Aludra needed to get out of the drug-running business and cut his ties with that stupid gang that he had no reason to have anything to do with.

Of course, it couldn't be that simple. Haleriun and Corentine were off with their biological parents, leaving no one to watch his daughter. And there was something even worse than that:

For the first time since he had ever set eyes on the precious little apple of his eye:

She was being a BRAT.

The baby was just not behaving even a little bit. She had woken him at four o'clock that morning, bawling like crazy. She refused to eat, she -for the first time ever- refused to sleep. He would change her and rock her and do everything in his power to make her feel better and none of it was working. Honestly, he was reaching the end of his patience. He only needed an hour or so to get this over with, or so he was hoping, so he had a final solution: Damien Avenue.

Knowing that it was possible to contact him through Cat, the teen father managed to dig up that number, dialing it and waiting a bit impatiently as he gently rocked the sobbing little girl in his arms, gritting his teeth impatiently.

"Hello? Cat. Yes, this is Aludra. Is there any chance that Damien is currently at your house, or would you be able to get in contact with him? Oh, he is? Perfect. Nothing much, to be honest. I simply need to request his help in caring for my daughter for, say, an hour, or perhaps an hour and a half? Oh, would you? That would be wonderful, thank you." The conversation was short and sweet and Aludra hung up the phone with a grin on his face, glad that he would finally be getting all of this out of the way. Without any kind of hesitation, he was off to Cat's house, at the door within about ten minutes (never mind the speeding, tickets weren't pricey), knocking politely at the door as he continued trying to keep the girl happy.

Cat smiled at the phone as he replaced it onto its hook, pointlessly pleased with the developments thusfar. He had taken it on as his mission to help Damien at least a fraction of the self-confidence a person should have, and so he was happy that an opportunity presented itself. His grin persisted as he squatted by the spawn, sprawled out on his living room floor with his math homework, looking perfectly content. The spawn's expression was of mild confusion. "What? Who was on the phone?"

"Aludra," Cat replied simply, and chuckled to himself when Damien's eyes lit up, despite the slightly frightened expression on his face. "He's requested that you babysit his daughter today. I think she's giving him some trouble."

Damien's face was stark-white as he slowly rose from the floor, shaking his head from side to side slowly. "Uh-uh... Cat, that's a bad idea, I'll screw it up, I'm going to break the baby, I- I- I DON'T KNOW HOW TO BABYSIT!!"

Cat smiled persistently through Damien's screaming and shrugged, standing up with a nonchalance that infuriated the terrified child. "Well, it's too late for that. He's already on his way. In fact, he should be here soon."

Damien sputtered angrily for the last few minutes before Aludra arrived, and when Cat went to open the door, he sullenly stared past the gray Eilian with a mixture of resent and terror at his idol. "Hi, 'Ludra. Hi, baby," he said sulkily, eyes on the ground.

"Yes, hello," Cat said a sight more brightly with a contagious smile as he ushered them in. "Glad to see you found the place alright. And this must be Demetre- oh. Well, she is being fussy, isn't she...?" Cat tried to stay optimisitic as he witnessed the misbehaving infant. Had his really been a good idea?

Damien was thinking along the very same lines, for his eyes grew impossibly huge at the sight of the child he was supposed to be caring for, and he took a step backward, looking up at Aludra with serious misgivings. "Are you sure this is a good idea...?" he said softly. He really hoped Aludra changed his mind...

Despite noticing the displeasure of the small wrath child, Aludra smiled as best as he could manage at the boy, sighing softly. "Hey Damien," he said softly, stroking his daughter's hair gently and trying to get her to calm down. Still, the girl squirmed and whimpered unhappily, though he was still completely unaware as to what was supposed to be wrong. His attention soon turned to Cat and he gave the man a soft smile, looking awkward and feeling like he was imposing upon the family. The tip of his lengthy tail twitched slightly behind him and he gave an awkward smile.

"She has been quite fussy this morning. Truly, I do not mean to impose, and if I had another option, I would have chosen that before now. Though... she's been crying for quite a while now. Considering her usually tire, she'll probably wear herself out, soon. I won't be gone for long, I promise, and I'll be back as soon as I have a chance to be," he explained awkwardly, gently offering the small girl to Cat. "Thank you very much, Cat. I truly cannot thank you enough."

With a quick bow, and a smile, approving smile to Damien, he was off, forced to reorganize his life.

Demetre was still just as unhappy as she had been, squirming now in Cat's arms rather than Aludra's, light blue eyes closed tightly in upset, small tears trickling from her eyes. She was vaguely oblivious as she was handed down from the older male to the young, kicking her legs pitifully beneath her long emerald dress. It was when her crystal blue eyes cracked open that her tears suddenly dried, thrashing ceasing as well as she stilled slowly in her babysitter's arms. Her eyes got rather wide, a curious look on her pale face. Slowly, she stretched out her hand to stroke one of the small golden wings that stuck out in place of ears.

At the feel of the smooth feathers, the little girl squealed happily, a grin spreading across her face as she wiggled in the boy's arms, kicking her feet in the air happily. With a bit of a struggle, she reached up once again, gently taking hold of his wing in one of her small hands, smiling contentedly as she nuzzled into his shoulder.

Cat smiled warmly at Aludra and tried as best he could to hold the wriggling baby still as he ushered the spawn out the door, waving pleasantly at his retreating back. "You're very welcome, Aludra. I wish you luck!"

Once the Greed kid was gone, Cat looked critically at Demetre, and then unceremoniously handed her off to Damien, who started in surprise as he awkwardly held the child. "I- Uh- Da- W-What am I supposed to do with it?!"

But then the child's squalling stopped, and both men looked at the now-blissful girl in surprise. A pleased chuckle bubbled from Cat's throat, and he shrugged easily. "Just that, I suppose. I think if you let her hold onto your wing, she'll stop crying, and your job will be easy." The man's tail flicked happily from side to side; there, everything was going to work out.

Damien, however, still was very skeptical. He grimaced gently at the uncomfortable grip on his feathers, which he couldn't help but twitch in her soft grip, and muttered sullenly to himself. "Well, I can't do my homework like this...." But his protests fell on blissfully deaf ears as Cat breezed into the kitchen and began fixing his charges a snack, so Damien shuffled his way to the couch and plopped himself on it sulkily, looking askance at the baby in his arms. Having nothing better to do, he glanced around to make sure that Cat wasn't eavesdropping - which he was, but more secretly - and then muttered under his breath. "...hi baby. Why were you crying? Did you want food?"

Demetre was, in fact, quite enthralled with the wing that she was allowed to hold onto between her chubby little fingers, wiggling just a bit every now and again, but looking otherwise fascinated. She was oblivious to any kind of conflict going on around her, as well as any kind of uncomfortable that the boy holding her may have been. Instead, all of her baby attention span was focused solely on the wing gripped gently in her little hands. She smiled cutely when Damien grumbled to himself, but it seemed little more than a coincidence than a reaction.

The girl seemed to get more comfortable on Damien’s lap when he sat down, tugging on his wing when it flicked slightly beneath her fingertips. When Damien leaned down to speak to her, her crystal eyes widened suddenly, mouth making a small ‘o’ shape for a moment or two. Not understanding any of the sounds from the boy, once he was finished speaking, she simply squealed with what seemed to be joy, kicking her short legs into the air beneath the gaudy dress her father had dressed her in, hand only tightening on its prize.

Damien hissed between clenched teeth as the baby screamed for no reason and wigged its little legs around as its little fist tightening on his poor wing. The seized appendage continued fluttering sadly from beneath its captor's hand, half-heartedly trying to break free. It took most of Damien's self-control to not yank the baby's arm away and stick her back on the couch; the only thing that was really stopping him was the likely fact that she would start bawling again, which would be even more annoying. He took a deep breath and glanced down at the babbling infant; this is why he didn't really want kids.

"Look, you're a natural, she's happy as a clam," said Cat with a grin on his face that made Damien scowl angrily at him, furious for getting him into this mess. Cat tried not to chuckle at the boy's disproportionate anger and set down a small plate of peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches and applesauce, as well as a glass of milk. "Here, see if she'll eat any of this. Like Aludra said, with luck she'll go to sleep soon." He placed the remote to the television next to Damien, gave him another irritating smile, and then went off to another section of the house to do teacherly things.

"Thanks," Damien snapped sarcastically at Cat's retreating back. More grumbles were said under his breath as he picked up the remote and turned on a History Channel documentary any other child his age would find soul-crushingly boring, then awkwardly leaned forward and picked up a sandwich. Heterochromatic eyes flicked towards the baby in his arms doubtfully, but he still broke off a piece of the food and offered to her. "Want some? It's good and squishy, just like your normal food."

Demetre was quite happy where she was here. She liked the pretty one with the stripies on his face, even if he looked like he hurt a lot and had long scary claws. Maybe he would keep her safe? Yes. Yes he would. After all, he talked nice and quiet to her when the big grey birdie left, so he had to be good inside, right? Like the big, scary dragon in the books that Daddy got for her - he wasn't really mean or evil, he was just sad and lonely and all of the princesses were afraid of him, so he just had to steal one away.

'Yes,' she decided. 'He's my sweet, nice dragon. He'll protect me.'

Already, she was calming down, her sleeping beauty spell starting to kick in, but only a little bit. Only enough for her to stop flailing around as much and settle where she was sitting. When the piece of food was offered to her, she looked up with those ice blue eyes of her's, blinking curiously a couple of times, stretching her free hand out toward the sandwich and grabbing it in her fist. She giggled at the way it squished in her hand before shoving it in her mouth, swallowing it thickly and opening her mouth and hand up for more.

The sleeping beauty side effect began to work its magic on Damien too, making his wing cease fluttering so violently and causing him to overall relax, like when Gabriel spoke around him. He slumped back onto the couch cushion, and couldn't resist a grin when the baby at her sloppy eating. She was a baby, of course, he couldn't expect perfect manners.

"Wow, that was classy," he said with a sarcastic grin, reaching for a napkin to wipe away the mess around Demetre's mouth. When she stuck her sticky fist out for more, he obliged, watching her a little more carefully as she ate and wiping away any and all messes. "So," he said in a conversational tone, "I see you like peanut butter. I'm pretty fond of peanut butter myself."

Demetre giggled happily, though less excitedly than she was before, considering the fact that she was starting to get a bit sleepy. Just as Aludra had promised. Demetre gave a big wide smile when Damien smiled, small hand tugging very softly at the boy's beautiful golden headwing. She mumbled softly, resisting the rough napkin that was rubbed on her face. Unhappy at the texture, she whined and pushed it away sadly.

When she was given more sandwich, she gasped happily and opened her mouth wide, chomping on the tasty sandwich happily. She watched as Damien spoke, mind unable to quite understand what he was saying. Softly, she kicked her little feet in the air. "'Amie!!"

Despite his initial reluctance, Damien found himself warming up to the baby girl in his arms. He didn't why this was so hard for Aludra to do by himself; just smile at her and let her do what she wants, and she's fine. Plus her laugh was... kind of adorable. And even her tugging on his headwing didn't really hurt anymore, now that she was starting to settle down. When she whined at the napkin, he looked at her with slight bemusement, then shrugged and tossed it into the trashcan. "Okay. I guess you can be messy if you want, baby."

He giggled when Demetre chomped down the sandwich, wiping away the resulting mess with his thumb instead, being extremely cautious with his claws around the baby's face. Her butchering of his name, which would make him angry out of anyone else's mouth, only made him giggle more, and he stroked her hair gently. "Yeah, Amie works if you want. You're Demetre, right?"

Demetre burbled happily when the napkin was tossed away, tiny toes curling beneath her dress. The little girl struggled a bit in swallowing the sticky peanut butter mess, though not enough to raise concerns. Babbling softly, she pressed against the thumb as it brushed across her mouth, making her squeal happily, stretching her limbs in all directions for the sheer joy of it.

"'Amie!! Amie-mie!" she squealed happily, wriggling in the preteen's lap, gurgling little giggles leaving her throat. Her steel-blue eyes fell half-shut at the feeling of the male's hand brushing across her hair, grip on his headwing going lax, a pleasant smile on her pale face.
