SRP - Sorting The Animals Out - Louisa and her Mother
She had to many animals, her parents told her this all the time but she honestly didn't mind. In fact she rather liked them. She would happily sit there with them for hours, watching as they would struggle to move their bedding around. Today she had been watching two of her degu's moving cardboard and tissue from the bottom of the cage to their hammock at the top and so many times they fell back down. It always worried her when they fell but they never seemed to be hurt and she did always check them.
Today was a big day for her and a nerve wrecking one. One of her animals had babies two months ago and today was they day to sex and separate the males and females. She had already sexed them once but she would do it again to check first. She watched the babies crawling up the side of the cage and smiled to herself before leaving them and her room to find her mother. They had to make the cage for the boys before they could separate them!
"Muuuuuuum!" She called as she walked down the stairs. She spotted her mum in the kitchen and ran up to her mum where she was washing up and sneaking up behind her put her arms around her mothers waste and gave her a big hug.
"Can we make the cage now? Pleeeeeease?" She smiled as she spoke, knowing her mother would be all to happy to make it.
"Okay, just let me finish drying this and then we can put it together, why don't you get everything ready?"
"Thank you!" She squeezed her mum before running off in to the lounge where she picked up the pliers and the rather large box and then she carefully dragged the box upstairs to her room. She opened it and got all the wire mesh out and the bottom of the cage. She then sat on her bed watching her animals until she heard her mum coming up the stairs.
"It looks easy enough to put together." Louisa said as her mother walked in and she soon nodded.
"Well lets make a start then!" Louisa's mum commented and knelt down looking at the bits of the cage.
They were right it was easy enough to put together and it didn't take long for it to be ready. Then together they lined it with the shredded cardboard and added various toys, hammocks, food and water. Once it was ready they put it on top of one of the other cages and went back downstairs to get something to eat and drink. They needed a rest before they moved the boys over, which could involve biting, scratches and goodness knows what else. Louisa had been bitten several times but it didn't bother her. She was use to it.
They ate noodles for lunch and had some homemade milkshakes while they chatted about various things, school starting soon, the animals, Lousia's photography. They ended up downstairs for at least two hours before they remembered they had to sort the goo's (Louisa calls the degu's goo's as a sort of nickname) out.
They both washed up together and headed up stairs where they watched the animals for a while. Then Louisa opened the cage door and like normal they all came running hoping for food and so she gave them all a peanut each but enticed the babies to come out for theirs. Then together mother and daughter sexed the six babies, finding 3 females and 3 males. They put the females back in with their mother and put the boys in their own cage. Louisa felt so cruel doing this but she couldn't leave them, the last thing she wanted was them inbreeding.
"Do you think the boys will be okay mum?" Louisa asked her mother in a rather quiet voice.
"Of course, come down stairs for now, give them time to settle in. Maybe you could go out and do some photography?" She smiled as she looked down at her daughter and then kissed the top of her head. "Come on." She then led a reluctant Louisa out her bedroom and downstairs.
"Okay I will go out for a bit, distract myself. Thanks mum, I will see you later!" She smiled as she went and got her camera and waved before leaving the house. She would check on her boys when she got home but for now she had some photos to go and take.
