Character’s name: Odessa Nimue Age: 18 Appearance: Short, slender and pale. Her rather delicate features are dwarfed by a mop of bright red curls that she can't seem to contain. In order to offset her hair, she generally wears single, solid colour outfits, usually black. Personality Traits: Creative Compassionate Hasty Forgetful
Odessa - Fighting!
In a brief moment of reprieve, she watched one of her customers fight off the bats. He looked like a much better fighter than she felt. "Thanks! ... That's smart. I think I was just getting a little over zealous." It still didn't stop her from prodding a downed bat with her shoe.
She pushed her hair back out of her face, hoping the worst was over. But it seemed that the bats had other plans. She sucked her breath in as a gigantic bat swooped at her. Flail as she might, the monster still managed to get its fangs into her arm. Odessa let out a pained yelp, and socked it firmly in the snout. The bat released her, and flapped off, looking back on occasion. She pressed a hand to the puncture on her arm, hoping to stop it bleeding.

Jack Burnett - (detracting 1 for missing a previous roll!) The first thing Jack noticed was that his customers were right and that attempting to use the wings had been a relatively useless idea. Eventually he found they hindered him more than helped and tossed them back behind the stall before taking the bats on himself as the others seemed to be doing.
"Considerate of you," he said to the other guy as he mentioned not wanting to destroy his inventory. "Guess they're not much help after all anyway. What the hell is with these things?!" He watched the older male beat back a bat with his joined hands and whistled, impressed. "Those aren't the only awesome things around," he answered upon hearing the man's compliment.
It was starting to dawn on Jack that the bats weren't just being pests by flying at people; they were actually trying to bite them and get a taste of human flesh. This was beginning to sound like something out of a horror story - like the movie about birds, but with bats instead. Was this someone's morbid idea of a joke?
He nodded to the teenage girl his age when she politely declined his offer with the wings and watched as she beat back a bat with an uppercut. Jack found himself wondering if she got into fights regularly with how casually she seemed to be acting. It was more than just being calm about the fight; it was being calm with the ridiculous onslaught of bats. Was she used to this sort of bizarre situation? But how could that be?
Yelling from the long-haired man caught Jack's attention once more and he realized the guy had been bitten. "Whoa, you okay?" he asked, not even wanting to think about the kinds of things one had to worry about when bit by creatures known as 'flying rats'. He hardly had time to concern himself with the other's injuries, though, because the cloud bats began to thin out to reveal impossibly larger versions of them. Less numerable, it was true, but that wasn't much consolation with how much more dangerous they seemed due to their greater size.
Whether out of delirium, sheer recklessness, or something else, the man next to Jack had grabbed one of the enormous bats by the wings before driving it into the ground. The sight of this act combined with the guy's yelling made him intimidating indeed and Jack made a mental note never to get on his bad side.
He was grateful to have had such able-bodied people nearby defend against the creatures, especially as the brown-hair girl shouted at them defiantly. Deciding to follow their example, he also tried to fight back as best he could. Cowardice was more his forte than bravery, particularly where self-preservation was concerned, but the fact that these were just bats combined with his customers' outstanding displays spurred him to go above and beyond his usual choice of action.

Breanna: "No way... That can't be real. This has to be some elaborate hoax." Wide eyed staring at the incoming larger bats unable to move from shock. You'd think large dragons and hoards of youma would have made this seem like child's play when compared to the sheer number of monsters they had faced off when Cadeus sent them to Negaspace... but it didn't and she was just as scared now as she was then; the main difference though was she had no powers to rely on with so many people around. Kirra’s hidey-hole was compromised. The bats just dragged her two food trucks apart until there wasn't any gap to be squeezed in, and spilled her out into the open like the toy out of the cereal box. She spun around, frantic, but there wasn’t anywhere else to hide. She… she was going to have to fight them.
The new bat that peeped at her over the edge of the truck was even bigger than the first one, and it had the most giant teeth she’d seen on anything that wasn’t a dinosaur. This was not fun-scary, Halloween-scary. This was super hide-behind-the-couch, call-mum scary. And she’d lost Gigi, and she’d lost her pink teddy and she hadn’t got a toffee apple yet and it wasn’t fair and it was all the bats’ fault.
“Uuuwaaaah!” she screamed, somewhere between a battle cry and a tearful wail, and launched herself full-body at the scary bat. “Go away! You’re mean!”
The bat snapped and clawed at her, but the ten-year-old was a fraction of its size, and it couldn’t get a hold. It fell back under the child’s screechy fury, eventually giving up completely.
Kirra sat down where she was with a thump. She was bleeding from little cuts nearly everywhere and it stung. Big tears began to roll down her cheeks, streaking through blood and dirt and sugar residue.
Gigi continued punching and kicking her way through the bats, calling for her cousin as often as she had breath to spare. None of the youma seemed to be dusted, they just backed off. Weird. Could it be that they weren’t youma? She discarded the idea quickly – there was no way to tell, not without powering up to sense their auras, and the place was still far too crowded for that to be an option. And what good did it do her if they were regular animals rather than Negaverse spawn? They were still hurting people. They still needed to be stopped.
The bat before her screeched and flew away out of reach, and she paused to adjust her handbag as she watched it fall back. Its replacement was quick to zoom in on her, bigger, uglier and fangier than the last.
She didn’t feel scared, for once. Just mad, that yet another public event was being disturbed. Another fun day out ruined. And for what? So the monster in a creepy castle basement could steal some energy? Well, not today, Gigi thought. I have fought a dragon. I have seen the world end. You are just an overgrown flying rat.
It was a tougher battle, and she didn’t come out unscathed, but the bat monster turned its ugly head and fled. And she had done it all before her latte.
Peeking out from behind his case of probably-ruined canvases, Thorn determined that there was not much point trying to run, and hiding had proved a hell of a big nope. If this was going to be his death sequence, at least the sky was pretty. He had a great view from his position, flopped in the ruins of a pleasant-smelling stall. The giant bats ringed the horizon, some as gargoyles, others circling vultures. And oh! Some had brought their monstrous mega-fanged big brothers to join the fun.
How, he wondered, was something with a wingspan that large hovering?
It seemed they weren’t going to let him lie, playing dead fish. He could almost see the glint of beady eyes as one of the new wave bats changed direction, swooping down on him once again.
Hell with it, he thought, and set aside his paintings, pushing them out of the way. With video-game timing, he waited for the b*****d thing to get real close, then kicked out from his prone position with all his might, both legs driving at where any sensible monstrosity would keep its guts.
It didn’t work quite as well as he hoped. He connected, but so did it, raking fangs down his left side and latching onto his leg. The pain was a red-white shock, drawing a yelp his mouth. He bit his lip, and kept kicking with his free leg, landing a hit on the creature’s head that seemed to rattle it. It didn’t truly get its fangs in, at any rate.
Another desperate kick, and it flew off, leaving Thorn scraped and shuddering, but with surprisingly light injuries. He rolled his wrists, shoulders, checking all his essential bits. He was bleeding, but he could probably still walk.
For a few minutes Jocelin thought that maybe, just maybe, it was over. After she'd almost kicked a bat's teeth in, if that was even possible, it seemed like the bats were starting to retreat. The screaming was getting quieter and the sound of flapping and screeching was going away.
The respite didn't last long.
As she had a moment to breath she looked up and realized the bats were disappearing not because they were losing but because they were bringing in the big guns, as it were. As the smaller bats retreated the larger ones descended on the crowd and started tearing into those who were already injured and those who'd escaped the carnage so far.
There wasn't anywhere really to hide anymore and as she got her feet back under her she realized one of the bats was heading in her direction.
"Oh come on." She groaned before scrambling on the booth behind her for something she could defend herself with. She was lucky she was still near the games and the booth behind her was stocked with nerf guns. She picked one up as the bat headed for her, flipping it around so she could use the fake rifle more like a bat.
"Eat plastic." She huffed as she took a swing at the creature. The end of the plastic gun cracked against the bat's head causing it to screech as it fell to the side, scrabbling at the ground. "Taste good? Yea didn't think so." When the bat got it's bearings back it lunged at her again but didn't get a mouthful of anything more than the nerf gun. She jammed the thing in it's mouth until the bat gave up again and inched back eying her.
Leaving the safety of the stall was Myles' downfall; while he was swatting at one bat, another came behind him and bit. At first, he didn't feel it--and then the pain flooded through him. He made a noise of surprise and flailed a bit, but by the time he pushed the bat off of him, he was lightheaded. His vision was swimming and his neck felt like it was on fire. He made it a single step before his legs gave out on him and he found himself sitting, dazed, on the ground. His limbs felt like lead and his vision was swimming. "Uhm," he found himself replying to Caely, "No, I--I think I'm...fine..."

Jeremy wasn't letting himself be distracted; he had a few close encounters but he was still standing. He slipped his baton out of its holder and swung it, hard, at the nearest bat. He hadn't had the time or range before, but with these larger bats?
"Ah... heh. Yeah..." Kidder brushed his hair back sheepishly, wiping his hands on his jeans. "It's... um. Things have just been really crazy lately and you know when things are just the final straw? Final straw." He gestured vaguely at the bats, trying to ignore the scratches and bites from earlier.
"Sorry." Oh god he must have sounded like a complete lunatic. He must look like a complete lunatic. "I'm fine." ... "Everything's fine."
He heaved a sigh and lowered his shoulders wearily.
"I'm fine!" Delilah called out, the water bottle have become a chew toy for several bats. She had restored to using her purse, attempting to keep those things as far away from her skin as possible.
"Officer! Look up!" She cried out, noticing the clearing of the the smaller ones for the...monster ones would be an understatement.
Her eyes were on them for a long moment before she took a step back. She needed a better weapon for those. Sadly she was fresh out of 'bats' so she was going to have to make due. The potential to out smart them? How smart were bats anyway?

These were neither small...nor innocent....
"Xan!" She called out scanning the crowd for him. Damn chaos and wheels. He had gotten away from her when the bats swarmed.
Taking off at a run, she threw a fist at anything that came her way.

The bats were retreating. Some lay, mangled and dead on the ground, but most of them seemed to escape with their lives. Which is about as much as you can say; people who were attacked are groggy and weak, and as soon as the bats cleared out, EMTs are showing up to distribute first aid.
Food is scattered on the ground, and carnival music plays eerily in the background.
Channel Five is first on the scene reporting the horrendous attack, and some vendors are already shakily cleaning up their wares.
The news is reporting a freak accident, that the miners somehow accidentally disrupted an underground cave the bats were inhabiting, but nothing official is confirmed. Those bats didn't seem ordinary at all, in size or attitude, but they're gone now, and no one seems to know where they vanished.
While first aid is administered on site, only a few are actually taken to the hospital for treatment. Paramedics deliver preventative shots to those afflicted but after quick check-ups encourage everyone to go about their business.
Apparently, you're supposed to enjoy the rest of the festival--and certainly, some people already are. Although, they were also the first in line for cold beers when the stands reopened.
Besides, who wants to miss the winner of that sweet raffle?

Miners. They had mining? Holy s**t. Emily thought on this, before shrugging. She didn't know much about bats. Odd as these were - maybe they were just a breed she didn't know of? That was possible.
She still visited the EMTs though - a preventative shot and first aid after an animal incident was always a good idea, and she would look into aught else later. One thing at a time. Besides, despite not winning the raffle, there was a chance for more candied apples, and the girl all but perked. Perhaps some more sugar to calm her nerves.

Allison Abson
THE BATTLE WAS A SUCCESS. Well, mostly. The booth was in need of repair, but she could do that, and ensure it remained code, both health and faire. Allison stretched, returning Betsy to hiding before she settled to work, soon having a fresh selection of coffees. It seemed someone had called the main store for replacement pastries, and Ally sighed a sifgh of relief. Oh, sure, she was getting first aid and shots, but with a rough start, she'd bloomed and defended her family's honor.
Or, to normal folks, she'd protected her family business. Ally was quite proud and glad she'd done so, hoping her mother made it back soon. After all, she was eying the sacred beverage with interest - a cuppa would sure feel good after that, as did cuddling up to Tor. For now, though, work.

Leonora - minor injuries--and manage to do enough damage that you chase back the monster bats
She had hid, and thought she had hid well, but it didn't take long for even larger bats to make their way to her. Leonora would never manage to fend one off, and she was defending her pieces more than she was defending herself. If they were destroyed, she'd never be able to make the same ones again. On the other hand, if she was hurt, she'd heal... Eventually.
Leonora swung her arms the best she could. Others around her probably didn't understand why she was protecting her bag so much, but she wanted to have them to sell. At this point, she would even just give them away for people to enjoy.
She went to punch the bat attacking her, and ended up getting too close to her teeth. Leonora could see a cut on her right nuckle. Part of her really want to swear, but after her attack, the bat seemed to retreat. All of the bats seemed to retreat.
Leonora didn't expect to let out a long breath. It was an interesting day, but very unsuccessful in terms of productivity. Her hands held onto the bag tighter. She managed to make a few sales to cover the cost of the booth, but Leonora wanted to spread the seasonal love.
"Hmm.. I wonder who may need a pick-me-up... "

Camilla - minor injuries--and manage to do enough damage that you chase back the monster bats
Camilla kept swatting at bats with her purse. She wasn't sure why, but they seemed to have gotten bigger than the one she had initially fended off. They were fighting back and it irritated Camilla to no tomorrow. She wanted to kick one's butt. Hard.
She noticed one that was low-hovering and aimed to give it a swift kick. For sure she made contact, but in retaliation, the bat gave her a few good scratches on her leg. It hurt, but shouldn't be too much of an issue. Either way, her parents would probably send her to get a rabies shot.
Camilla found some rocks nearby and she flung them towards some bats. Her anger and frustration blinded her for a few moments until she realized that the bats were retreating. "Thank goodness... "
Looking around, she noticed the male running the booth had collapsed to the ground. He was still conscious, but Camilla couldn't help but worry. She went to him and helped him keep from falling over. Maybe he just needed some water? Camilla had none of her own so looked towards the girl that was also at the booth.
"Miss, do you have any water? Maybe that would make him feel better?"

Candice minor injuries--and manage to do enough damage that you chase back the monster bats
Candice was thankful for the owners offer of using his products as weapons, but it didn't seem very polite. Plus, these were part of his way of making money. She would play no part in possibly harming his livelihood. "Thanks for the offer, but I think I'll try and fend these off with my own hands! And maybe feet..."
She managed to land a hit on one of the bar's wings. It seemed to waver for a little bit, but ended up more aggravated than before. It dove for her head, but just barely missed, leaving a small cut under her left eye.
Candice hissed. It hurt. She touched it just slightly and notice some blood. "Damn it! Why did you aim for the face?!" She caught the bat off guard, picked up some trash from the ground and threw it at it. She wasn't sure if it was for the trash or something else, but something worked, and that bat and all the others seemed to retreat.
Going into her bag, she reached in and found her bottle of ointment. It wasn't much, but at least it would help with the bleeding. She looked around. "Anyone else need some to help with the bleeding? It's not much, but it'll help it stop if the cuts are small..."
"I'm still interested in buying yah know." Candice said as she turned back towards the sales person." Are you still up for selling? I hope the one I liked didn't get damaged... Looks like I'm going to have to cover up a scar for Halloween anyways." She smiled, trying to lighten the mood.
Caely's sight had momentarily registered Myles fending off a bat before continuing to scan the area again. But her vision darted to him again when she heard him vocalize his surprise. He had already pushed the biting bat off of him when she got to his side as well. Her angry gaze shot at the leaving bat before she tore her eyes away to land again on Camilla and Myles as she unclenched her fists somewhat despite the protest of her disgruntled emotions at the bats that had made such a mess.
She stood up straight from bent knees again as she gave an honest shake of her head with her reply to Camilla's query of her, "At present, I'm not carrying any water with me." The moment after, it was then that other parts of their surroundings registered in her senses more prominently now, the sirens, the people, some festival goers receiving first aid. She looked at Myles and Camilla again as she asked, "Would you like me to get you both some water and go request for us to also be given a medical check-up?"
