Almadel was worried.
A stranger to some, but not all, Almadel had no energy signature of his own but made up for it with a naturally charismatic presence. He was tall and graceful, though his forked tail twitched somewhat nervously behind him. He was dressed in an exotic and form-fitting outfit that would have been out of place on Earth but which he claimed was well received among the stars. There was nothing particularly out of place when looking at him, but there was something wrong.
He was nervous.
And why shouldn’t he have been? An open invitation to anyone on Earth? Of course there was a risk of inviting enemies–of each other, not to him; Almadel had no enemies, of course. He hoped the promise of great payment might earn their patience. At least for one night.
As the crowd amassed, he bided his time. For a while, he did little magic tricks–disappearing baubles, and card tricks. Some fancy slight of hand, and a few tricks that might have actually been magic. He almost seemed as though he wasn’t taking this seriously–until the clock struck ten, exactly.
The tricks were gone and he was a businessman again.
“Thank you all for coming. I’m glad to see such a turnout. Truly. And I’m also grateful for your infinite patience.” There had been no bloodshed. Yet.
“Really, I’m glad for such numbers. I put this off for long enough. You saw my advertisement–you help me, I’ll reward you. I’m at wit’s end. My museum is under attack. Or, will be. I have an infestation. There was, I’m sure you felt it, a disturbance a few months ago? Shook the whole universe, didn’t it! And, well. Such things happen, you know how deep space is. Usually this wouldn’t be an issue for me, but it knocked my defenses right out. I fixed it, everything’s in order, but imagine coming home to find a hive sticking right through your front door.”
He laughed nervously, quickly. It was unlike him but he recovered quickly.
“So I thought, who can I ask for help? And then, you know. I love Earth. You’re all so strong and charming. I knew you’d want to help me. None of you get starsick, do you? Oh, I’m sure not. It’ll be fine. I’m going to whisk us all up to my museum and we’re going to take care of this, together. Well, you, really. But I’ll be there to help you. I’m just not much of a fighter, you know. Not that it’ll mean anything to most of you, I doubt you’ve heard of a Kosopod. Well,” he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth. “Some of you might have.”
Maybe the Vanguardians had records, or maybe the Senshi of ancient worlds knew something of them, but for those that didn’t know, he explained, “They’re, hm. I suppose like isopods. The smaller ones have wings, but these don’t. They’re too big! I think.”
He hoped.
“They’ve got a crunchy exoskeleton, and a lot of legs. They’ve very good, seasoned, but I suppose that’s besides the point. They eat anything. And they’ve got a gastric advantage and acidic saliva that helps them digest, so I suppose try to keep away from their mouths. Ah, and their tails. They’re a bit prickly. You’ll understand when you see them. They’re, hm, maybe the size of…” He looked around but, finding nothing to compare to, created a circle with his arms. His fingertips did not touch and were half a foot apart. “Maybe this big around.” He lowered his arms. “Really, very easy to crush. We shouldn’t have any problems, this is just a small hive. I doubt they’ve even got a queen. They’re fast, and sneaky. It’s more than I can handle myself. I haven’t enough bait for them all, so I’ll need you to help me destroy them. I cannot have my museum damaged. The sheer amount of cultural artifacts that they could destroy? No, absolutely not. I need help, badly. But truely, that’s probably everything you need to know. But I’m sure you have questions. We don’t have much time, but for you, I’ll make a bit. What I can answer now, I will. And we’ll have some time afterwards, certainly. You know, after we take care of this teeny, tiny little problem.”
He smiled now, bright and beaming and like all the weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He rubbed his hands together and a string of little stars appeared as if in a web woven between his fingers. It could have been another magic trick, but as energy hummed in the air around him and the group, it seemed like there might have been more to it as well.

IC this takes place on Friday, June 21st at 10 PM. Plot relevant posts should occur approximately every 48 hours. If you have questions for Almadel for this post, he will answer individual questions as quickly as staff can provide a response between now and the next mule post; you may interact with him a bit extra between now and the next prompt but please make sure to quote The Space Cauldron if you are speaking to him! If you have questions about anything, you can also PM the mule and we'll get back to you as soon as possible!
This event will utilize dice rolls. Participation in the ORP during the introduction and closing sections can be used as one regular RP requirement. Characters who participate in the branching RPs can use those as a battle requirement and characters who stay in the ORP for the battle section can earn a battle requirement. All characters can earn one battle and one regular requirement from this single RP provided they write 1000 words in the ORP or 500 words in the ORP and 500 RPs in a branching RP. Information about remaining with the ORP or leaving the ORP to do a branching RP will be available in upcoming OOC information. When posting your character in this thread, please include Name, Rank, and a link to their journal at the top of your post. Participation in this event will allow characters to earn a special IC RP Item; this item is not limited edition and can be earned at a later point but may be of interest to any character interested in Deep Space and potentially even locked space areas. OOCly this event should end on Friday, June 28th. Writing 500 words in this ORP can count for a raffle ticket!

Additional Information:
- Negaverse Characters: You have received a message from Queen Laurelite encouraging your participation. She does not know what task Almadel will ask of you but she requests that if you are willing to go you do so with the express purpose to collect information, not pick battles. It isn’t often an unfamiliar alien has such power or presence on Earth and she wants to know what he’s up to–and what he has that the Negaverse might use. Laurelite has stated quite clearly that there is to be no combat with enemy factions unless absolutely necessary. Observe what you can of Almadel and whatever mishap has befallen him, and use this as an opportunity to observe your allies up close. You may attack only if your life or well-being depends on it, or if you are safe on Earth and will face no alien repercussions. Do not participate if you cannot abide by her rules.
Vanguardians: Commodore Lyndin has sent out a message regarding this strange celestial alien and his request for aid. This message will reach all Vanguardians on their ComTech regardless of their alliance. Lyndin requests any participants stay alert and on edge; take care of yourselves above all others, but if possible take this opportunity to learn from Almadel and possibly earn his favor. He is an anomaly in Lyndin’s eyes and may have information or resources that can help the Vanguardians reach their goal. Almadel is an outlier, unpredictable and possibly dangerous, so all Vanguardians are encouraged to be safe and look after each other. Only participate if you are comfortable with the risks. Follow his rules while you are in his domain and do not willingly engage in combat with other factions. [OOCly, Vanguardians do not believe that any life form is above another. Unlike Chaos creatures, these are natural, organic, living beings. The idea of exterminating any other living being may be difficult for a Vanguardian who follows traditional values and morals and they may be interested in searching for alternatives. This is player choice, as some Vanguardians may have adjusted their view points given their time on Earth.]
About Kosopods: This information can be known to Vanguardians and Deep Space Senshi but it is totally optional. Vanguardians who have studied space creatures may know that they are a hardy species who leave a trail of destruction in their wake. They are not malicious by nature and do not seem to operate off of any higher thinking; they are like large bugs whose sole purpose is to devour and reproduce. They spit acid to pre-digest food and are weak to brute force and fire. They do not bleed and have tough shells but tender underbodies. They have no known home of origin but instead swarms break off and create new hives when their population grows too greatly. There are different kinds of Kosopods and different swarms can range greatly in size; some may be as small as a baseball and some may be as large as a car. The queen of any swarm is more like a centipede but these are rarely seen. Deep Space Senshi may know all of the above, however their interpretation of this information may be different based on lore or legend. Kosopods shed shells so once they have left an area there is often a trove of biological debris. Vanguardians may have harvested Kosopod shells to use in manufacturing and repairing ships or other objects. Some Vanguardians may also have gathered Kosopod acid in controlled settings to be used for construction and terraforming, however they have always practiced ethical collection and do not imprison or confine living creatures as per their moral code. Kosopods are also capable of eating and digesting toxic materials so are very useful for cleaning up after disaster scenarios or in the aftermath of dangerous chemicals. Some Vanguardians may have deposited dangerous waste near hives and monitored to make sure it was completely devoured to ensure the toxins could not cause harm to the environment.
