Atop a hill a mile and a half out of the major city and with a perfect view of the towering skyscrapers, Almadel stood. He had no wares with him, and gone was his easy-going persona. Though a smile remained on his face, it was obviously somewhat strained.

Almadel was worried.

A stranger to some, but not all, Almadel had no energy signature of his own but made up for it with a naturally charismatic presence. He was tall and graceful, though his forked tail twitched somewhat nervously behind him. He was dressed in an exotic and form-fitting outfit that would have been out of place on Earth but which he claimed was well received among the stars. There was nothing particularly out of place when looking at him, but there was something wrong.

He was nervous.

And why shouldn’t he have been? An open invitation to anyone on Earth? Of course there was a risk of inviting enemies–of each other, not to him; Almadel had no enemies, of course. He hoped the promise of great payment might earn their patience. At least for one night.

As the crowd amassed, he bided his time. For a while, he did little magic tricks–disappearing baubles, and card tricks. Some fancy slight of hand, and a few tricks that might have actually been magic. He almost seemed as though he wasn’t taking this seriously–until the clock struck ten, exactly.

The tricks were gone and he was a businessman again.

“Thank you all for coming. I’m glad to see such a turnout. Truly. And I’m also grateful for your infinite patience.” There had been no bloodshed. Yet.

“Really, I’m glad for such numbers. I put this off for long enough. You saw my advertisement–you help me, I’ll reward you. I’m at wit’s end. My museum is under attack. Or, will be. I have an infestation. There was, I’m sure you felt it, a disturbance a few months ago? Shook the whole universe, didn’t it! And, well. Such things happen, you know how deep space is. Usually this wouldn’t be an issue for me, but it knocked my defenses right out. I fixed it, everything’s in order, but imagine coming home to find a hive sticking right through your front door.”

He laughed nervously, quickly. It was unlike him but he recovered quickly.

“So I thought, who can I ask for help? And then, you know. I love Earth. You’re all so strong and charming. I knew you’d want to help me. None of you get starsick, do you? Oh, I’m sure not. It’ll be fine. I’m going to whisk us all up to my museum and we’re going to take care of this, together. Well, you, really. But I’ll be there to help you. I’m just not much of a fighter, you know. Not that it’ll mean anything to most of you, I doubt you’ve heard of a Kosopod. Well,” he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth. “Some of you might have.”

Maybe the Vanguardians had records, or maybe the Senshi of ancient worlds knew something of them, but for those that didn’t know, he explained, “They’re, hm. I suppose like isopods. The smaller ones have wings, but these don’t. They’re too big! I think.”

He hoped.

“They’ve got a crunchy exoskeleton, and a lot of legs. They’ve very good, seasoned, but I suppose that’s besides the point. They eat anything. And they’ve got a gastric advantage and acidic saliva that helps them digest, so I suppose try to keep away from their mouths. Ah, and their tails. They’re a bit prickly. You’ll understand when you see them. They’re, hm, maybe the size of…” He looked around but, finding nothing to compare to, created a circle with his arms. His fingertips did not touch and were half a foot apart. “Maybe this big around.” He lowered his arms. “Really, very easy to crush. We shouldn’t have any problems, this is just a small hive. I doubt they’ve even got a queen. They’re fast, and sneaky. It’s more than I can handle myself. I haven’t enough bait for them all, so I’ll need you to help me destroy them. I cannot have my museum damaged. The sheer amount of cultural artifacts that they could destroy? No, absolutely not. I need help, badly. But truely, that’s probably everything you need to know. But I’m sure you have questions. We don’t have much time, but for you, I’ll make a bit. What I can answer now, I will. And we’ll have some time afterwards, certainly. You know, after we take care of this teeny, tiny little problem.”

He smiled now, bright and beaming and like all the weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He rubbed his hands together and a string of little stars appeared as if in a web woven between his fingers. It could have been another magic trick, but as energy hummed in the air around him and the group, it seemed like there might have been more to it as well.

IC this takes place on Friday, June 21st at 10 PM. Plot relevant posts should occur approximately every 48 hours. If you have questions for Almadel for this post, he will answer individual questions as quickly as staff can provide a response between now and the next mule post; you may interact with him a bit extra between now and the next prompt but please make sure to quote The Space Cauldron if you are speaking to him! If you have questions about anything, you can also PM the mule and we'll get back to you as soon as possible!

This event will utilize dice rolls. Participation in the ORP during the introduction and closing sections can be used as one regular RP requirement. Characters who participate in the branching RPs can use those as a battle requirement and characters who stay in the ORP for the battle section can earn a battle requirement. All characters can earn one battle and one regular requirement from this single RP provided they write 1000 words in the ORP or 500 words in the ORP and 500 RPs in a branching RP. Information about remaining with the ORP or leaving the ORP to do a branching RP will be available in upcoming OOC information. When posting your character in this thread, please include Name, Rank, and a link to their journal at the top of your post. Participation in this event will allow characters to earn a special IC RP Item; this item is not limited edition and can be earned at a later point but may be of interest to any character interested in Deep Space and potentially even locked space areas. OOCly this event should end on Friday, June 28th. Writing 500 words in this ORP can count for a raffle ticket!

Additional Information:

Negaverse Characters: You have received a message from Queen Laurelite encouraging your participation. She does not know what task Almadel will ask of you but she requests that if you are willing to go you do so with the express purpose to collect information, not pick battles. It isn’t often an unfamiliar alien has such power or presence on Earth and she wants to know what he’s up to–and what he has that the Negaverse might use. Laurelite has stated quite clearly that there is to be no combat with enemy factions unless absolutely necessary. Observe what you can of Almadel and whatever mishap has befallen him, and use this as an opportunity to observe your allies up close. You may attack only if your life or well-being depends on it, or if you are safe on Earth and will face no alien repercussions. Do not participate if you cannot abide by her rules.

Vanguardians: Commodore Lyndin has sent out a message regarding this strange celestial alien and his request for aid. This message will reach all Vanguardians on their ComTech regardless of their alliance. Lyndin requests any participants stay alert and on edge; take care of yourselves above all others, but if possible take this opportunity to learn from Almadel and possibly earn his favor. He is an anomaly in Lyndin’s eyes and may have information or resources that can help the Vanguardians reach their goal. Almadel is an outlier, unpredictable and possibly dangerous, so all Vanguardians are encouraged to be safe and look after each other. Only participate if you are comfortable with the risks. Follow his rules while you are in his domain and do not willingly engage in combat with other factions. [OOCly, Vanguardians do not believe that any life form is above another. Unlike Chaos creatures, these are natural, organic, living beings. The idea of exterminating any other living being may be difficult for a Vanguardian who follows traditional values and morals and they may be interested in searching for alternatives. This is player choice, as some Vanguardians may have adjusted their view points given their time on Earth.]

About Kosopods: This information can be known to Vanguardians and Deep Space Senshi but it is totally optional. Vanguardians who have studied space creatures may know that they are a hardy species who leave a trail of destruction in their wake. They are not malicious by nature and do not seem to operate off of any higher thinking; they are like large bugs whose sole purpose is to devour and reproduce. They spit acid to pre-digest food and are weak to brute force and fire. They do not bleed and have tough shells but tender underbodies. They have no known home of origin but instead swarms break off and create new hives when their population grows too greatly. There are different kinds of Kosopods and different swarms can range greatly in size; some may be as small as a baseball and some may be as large as a car. The queen of any swarm is more like a centipede but these are rarely seen. Deep Space Senshi may know all of the above, however their interpretation of this information may be different based on lore or legend. Kosopods shed shells so once they have left an area there is often a trove of biological debris. Vanguardians may have harvested Kosopod shells to use in manufacturing and repairing ships or other objects. Some Vanguardians may also have gathered Kosopod acid in controlled settings to be used for construction and terraforming, however they have always practiced ethical collection and do not imprison or confine living creatures as per their moral code. Kosopods are also capable of eating and digesting toxic materials so are very useful for cleaning up after disaster scenarios or in the aftermath of dangerous chemicals. Some Vanguardians may have deposited dangerous waste near hives and monitored to make sure it was completely devoured to ensure the toxins could not cause harm to the environment.

Branching RPs

Characters can split into side rooms to help Almadel clear the museum! These RPs take place at the same time as the ORP but are designed so players can complete a set of prompts at their leisure and not have to worry about the pacing of an ORP. These RPs can be used as a battle requirement provided characters have at least 500 words written and roleplay with another powered character; while you can solo it, it will only count as a regular RP and not a battle. These RPs should be labeled ‘Night at the Museum - Side Room’! These RPs will take place right after this post.

The prompts are meant to guide you; what you do is totally open ended. There are many ways to achieve the end goal and you can customize this based on what feels right for your character. Just because Almadel or the prompt says to do something doesn’t mean you must abide by it specifically.

Quote:
Prompt 1: The group has split up; while a large number of people remain in the storage wing, you have decided to help clear out some of the smaller rooms. Things are packed more securely here, and while there are some oddities on display, for the most part everything is secured in an array of wooden, stone, or metal boxes of varying security. You may see a strange item here or there, or something that catches your eye. There is an undeniably weird hum of energy in the room but Almadel has trusted you to behave.

While you must stay in the area, you can investigate anything. You can PM The Space Cauldron or DM xigglet on Discord if you want to check anything before posting; you can also ask if you can interact with anything or gain extra information about something your character is involved in. It is possible to find an artifact or relic that is some way important or relevant to your character but you must have permission. If you are interested in finding something, please be prepared to give a physical description and any relevant lore; we can work things out with you.

As you investigate, you hear a strange noise. Roll a 1d4 to locate it.
If you roll 1 it is coming from an air vent
If you roll a 2 it is coming from a storage box
If you roll a 3 it is coming from the wall
If you roll a 4 it is coming from under the floor

You can decide how to get to them; you may be fortunate and find a loose tile but you may have to break something to reach them (at player choice). Just remember that Almadel wants his museum in the best condition possible…

Quote:
Prompt 2: You have located the sound–Kosopods, ranging from six inches to two feet wide. They are hard shelled isopods with many legs and prickly tails. They can be nearly any neutral color, it just depends on what they have been eating. They will immediately try to scatter. Roll 1d4 to determine how many Kosopods you have located; you can decide their size.

Quote:
Prompt 3: The Kosopods immediately attack. They are frantic and hungry; they can spit acid that causes agitation and eventually burns through things and they have many sharp legs and sharp points on their shells. They can bite. Their shells are very hard and they can only be damaged by flipping them over to expose their delicate underbelly or possibly by overwhelming them with magic. They cannot be starseeded. They are vulnerable to fire but it might not be a good idea to start setting things ablaze if you want to stay on Almadel’s good side. Roll 1d4 to determine how many Kosopods you have defeated; if you roll lower than the last prompt, you will need to roll again until you defeat them all or hope that your allies rolled high enough to take out some of yours as well. If you roll a higher number here than you did in prompt 2, you can help your allies.

Quote:
Prompt 4: Once the Kosopods have been defeated, you can take a moment to breathe. It sounds like things have calmed down outside in the large room that you arrived in. You can look around the area if you like (and if you sent anything in to find or examine, you can identify it now. It may be possible to steal small items from Almadel if you have sent in for approval). This post can be considered an exit or you can continue roleplaying until you are ready to leave. You can rejoin the closing post of the ORP when it is announced! This should be on Friday the 28th. While you do not need to have this RP finished at the time of the close, please try to close this RP promptly! You must write 500 words in this RP to be eligible for the prize!

Coco, White moon guardian cat, Human form, X

Coco had arrived ready to do whatever she could to help, she liked Almadel, she had traded him something she didn't remember what it was and he gave her the collar that became her cool workbench. So she was all for helping him to reclaim his museum and perhaps his home? She wasn't sure how helpful she could be fighting giant bugs but she would try her best and she had her human form so perhaps that would be helpful. She figured she would find ways to help as she always did in these cases. She listened to everything he said. It all seemed pretty straightforward, save the day and don't fight each other.

She was curious to see if any other guardian cats would be brave enough to come along on this trip. She wasn't worried about getting star sick. After all she was a mauvian her kind hadn't even come from earth. She sat down on her butt looking around at everyone that was showing up to help. Her tail whipped back and forth as she watched. She yawned and closed her eyes for a moment. She still wondered if this all started with those weird pods at the tree.

Lacaille super senshi of books, X

Lacaille sighed out when she heard that Almadel had called for help, he was able to call for help he wasn't hurt but his museum was under attack, which certainly wasn't good. She didn't think her magic would do any good in this case considering she was pretty sure bugs didn't read. Still she was willing to fight. She could kick and punch them. So she would have to do that she supposed. She had been worried about him when she couldn't find him the other day. It was pretty clear that this was the reason he had been unable to open his table this year.

She was curious what all he had in his museum all the wonders that might be in there. The question was why on earth would bugs want the things inside of there? It really made no sense to her. It sounded really strange did they intend to eat the magic items and make themselves more powerful or something? She didn't think it was important to ask that right now. She also didn't think it was important for him to know she was looking for him. She was just glad that he was alright that was all that mattered.

Xamira looked around to see if anyone else had showed up. She saw that there were two other people. She let out a sigh of relief when she saw that a another guardian cat was there.

She was happy that she was not the only cat there and hope that others would arrive too.

Xamira approached the cat with a sense of familiarity, her tail intertwining with the other cat in a silent greeting.

"Greetings, young one. It is good to see another guardian answering the call.”

Ngome showed up as soon as she received word about it. She made her way to the hill and looked around at her surroundings. She told herself to make sure she took note of everything and pay attention to what Almadel and everyone else say. She wanted to be as good as a help that she could.

Coco, White moon guardian cat, Human form, X

Coco was happy to see another guardian cat there willing to help. She nodded eagerly "Yes I'm Coco. I'm glad you see you decided to come as well, I was wondering if any other guardian cats would come to help." She was pretty young and she was still learning a lot of things about her race and it's powers. She hadn't been born on earth but she didn't remember a lot of her time before at this point. She was still trying to put the pieces back together again in her head and learning from others in the mean time.

Commander Vyn

Vyn had no idea who this Almadel was, but the Commodore was interested, which meant Vyn was interested. The Commodore need only make the barest suggestion and Vyn would see to it without question. (Well, maybe minimal questions. Or a lot, sometimes. Depending on what it was. But the point was that he did it anyway, because he believed in the Commodore.)

Leaving Earth was not to Vyn’s liking unless it meant visiting home. His previous experience with leaving Earth had not been reassuring in any sense. He’d learned that he could not trust his allies. He could not trust the Negaverse. He could not trust the White Moon. Really, the only ones he could trust were the Commodore, Aliez, Andreiya, and maybe a few other Vanguardians, but his faith in the latter was constantly tested. To Vyn, everyone outside of the Vanguard was a potential enemy, which meant this Almadel was a potential enemy.

Vyn scrutinized him closely, though he himself did not draw too near to him. Vyn wore his rank with uncertainty, but with determination, too. Not confidence—Vyn doubted he would ever have that—but a resolve to keep any fellow Vanguardians safe.

And perhaps learn a thing or two in the process.

Sessrumnir, Knight of Jupiter

Sessrumnir had told Alastor about Almadel -- the mysterious man who somehow gained access to the necklace that had been made specifically for Percy. It was a piece of Alastor’s Core, and it had blackened over time. Until it came into contact with Sessrumnir’s palm.

He remembered how he felt as though he’d been pulled towards it. Like it was calling him. Maybe it was, in a way. Sessrumnir’s starseed was shared between lifetimes, so why wouldn’t the necklace as well?

‘It must be pretty bad if it’s got him worked up like this,’ Sessrumnir observed and thought into the earrings that he and Alastor shared. It was easier to communicate this way, and had come in handy in various situations already.

He’d told Alastor how much of a smooth talker Almadel was. How he could probably sell -- or trade -- just about anything to the right person. His ramblings now? Unless it was a ploy to get them all to feel sympathetic towards him, he was clearly nervous.

General Chalcanthite

Chalcanthite had seen the sign, similar in style to the one from the previous year, before receiving the message. Listening to the odd merchant speak, he kept an eye on those gathering and took note of faces as he kept an ear out for names so that he could get a report going for each of them. At least he had Melpomene here as well and with them sharing an earring it would be easy and discrete to get information back and forth with his partner, now fiance. Running his thumb over the inside of the band of his ring, he focused on the mention of artifacts and a museum.

Questions were already brewing, especially around what kind of things were in the museum but he'd get a look while helping handle those insect things. At least he could keep a distance with his bow so this would work out and Melpomene could watch his back.

Clearing his throat to speak up clearly, he chose just a basic question for now. "When you mention it is a small hive, what sort of numbers does that entail? When considering insects on Earth that could be nearing the hundreds in some species."

Corrupt Super Kafka

Kafka was here because Benitoite was here, it was as simple as that at first but he was surprised to see someone who didn't look quite human and even more so by the fact they were doing magic tricks up until a certain point.

Looking over at the small blonde he raised an eyebrow. "Is this the one you told me about that has wares? Also.... it sounds like this isn't something that we will be handling here? I am hearing that right, mon ange?"

Nudging them with an elbow slightly as he watched the gathering crowd, there were a lot of people from order and even if they were supposed to not start a fight, he had to keep extra watch on his partner just in case.

"No jumping into things, just whatever creature things he's talking about okay?" Teasing lightly, because it really was the only way he ever spoke in public.

Super DMS Hela

It had been a year since she'd met the odd alien and received that doll that shared her face and told her about his collection and space. Hela had wanted to hear more about that and see if they were bringing a camera or something along those lines just as they had said they would this coming year.

When she saw the sign asking for help instead of things to trade, she found herself wandering along to the designated area and seeing the crowd from every sort of faction. Nobody she really recognized other than the merchant but she could tell that at least one of the senshi here was from the mirror court like she was.

General Aquamarine

Aquamarine didn’t particularly care about the strange alien man or whatever nonsense he needed assistance with, but the Queen wanted information, which meant Jet wanted information, which meant Jet had every intention of going himself, which naturally meant Aquamarine would follow along.

He did not regret it. (Yet.)

“Hello, Sess.”

Aquamarine stood some distance away, occasionally overconfident but not fool enough to put himself close to someone who’d previously run him through with his own weapons. He did, however, raise his voice loud enough to be heard. The smile on his face might have almost been pleasant if not for the spark of amused cruelty in his eyes.

“How’s the family?”

Xamira smiled warmly at Coco, her eyes reflecting a sense of wisdom beyond her years. "It is important for us guardian cats to stand together in times of need," she mewed softly. "Our powers are strongest when united." She tilted her head slightly, studying Coco with a knowing gaze. "You possess great potential within you, young one."

General Jet

There was no need for him to power up to his full potential. He hadn’t bothered yet outside of Negaspace, and he didn’t feel the need to now. Besides, they were there to gather information! There was no need for him to needlessly scare people away from helping the strange alien.

Still, Jet was comfortably calm and collected -- amused even -- as he observed the growing crowd of Senshi and Knights. Officers, too. And their little alien friends that they were ordered to play nice with as well.

He was sure to take note of who stood where. And whose alliances were going to be brought into question.

Aquamarine had already found one of their friends, and he couldn’t help but glance in Sessrumnir’s direction as well.

If they weren’t following the Queen’s direct orders, he would have made sure to put the Knight down right then and there.

Eternal Ida

When she'd decided to come and help the mysterious alien everyone else seemed to know, Ida hadn't realized his call for help had gone out to the Negavers and the Vanguard as well. She'd almost turned back when she'd felt the gathered signatures, except that some of those powered auras were Order. It became a question of leave, and abandon them to whatever was going to happen, or stay, and try to keep them safe.

Of course, it wasn't actually much of a question at that point, because there was truly only one direction Ida could take.

So she stood quietly to the side, her fingers woven together in front of her, and pretended to watch the fancy alien man do his party tricks to entertain the crowd while they waited, more than half of her attention on the chaos members of the gathering while she tried not to look like she was studying each of them. Some of them she recognized, in a passing sort of way, while others she did not. She wasn't sure if she should be grateful not to see well-known faces on the other side.

Meissa, Corrupt Super of Bobcats

This was certainy new. Kailynne had hoped for something to entertain her while her roommate had been out. The television had not held her attention for very long and soon she had taken to twirling her henshin pen between her fingers. Morgan had instructed her that it wasn't safe to go out on her own but she was bored. Nothing cured boredom like a nice little stroll amongst the populace. She could practice the art of energy draining and well, hopefully come back stocked up. That had been the eventual plan. Things changed though once she drew upon the power that transformed her into Meissa. Upon powering up there came a clash of auras that spoke of something else going on and well, that old adage about curiosity and cats became her driving force to figure out what was going on.

Upon reaching the crowd there were many faces that Meissa did not recognize and she gave those powered auras that spoke of opposing factions a wide berth before she came across a few other individuals who looked like they belonged to the Negaverse and she quickly slipped in among their ranks. It would be safer for her to watch how they were to operate. Her gaze did flick to other individuals who were around before she noticed a pair of cats. Her eyebrows raised at that but she instead focused on whomever it was that had requested aid with an intrigued look.
