February 14 - February 28th at 11:59PM PST

This year, Scarentines arrived at Amityville with little more than a wistful sigh from its most ardent fans. There was no dance, no vile little cupids floating around, no rose petals scattered in the streets, just the remnants of Xmas snow and the usual spooky cackling that you'd hear on any other night.

It seemed Valentines Town was having none of that. If Halloween wasn't going to celebrate their holiday voluntarily, Valentines was going to make them celebrate.

Early on the morning of the 14th, a flickering, red portal appeared outside the school's hot springs. It hovered off of the ground at about the height of a table, and it was shaped like a heart.

User Image

The administration sent the Student Council in first—since they had totally volunteered to investigate things like this by virtue of running in the first place—and after they deemed it "very strange, but safe, I guess", everyone else was allowed inside.

Throughout the day, four more portals appeared, and after cursory examinations, they were opened to the public too.

Quote:
Welcome to the Scarentines Portals! In the posts below, you will find the locations and descriptions of five portals that have opened into Valentines Town from Halloween this holiday season. They are guaranteed by the Student Council to be almost completely safe!

Read these instructions and get started on an adventure of your own!

  • Choose any portal below and familiarize yourself with its location, dice mechanics, and conditions for victory.

  • Start your RP in the event forum using a tag that denotes the color or type of portal you've entered in that RP.

    Quote:
    Like this!
[White Portal PRP] Do You Know My Dad? (Gus/Stinky Pete)

    or this!
    [Peace Portal ORP] Dove Barbecue!

  • RPs may be completed solo or in a group of any size made up of members from any faction (students, horsemen, civilians, hunters, quest students), as long as hunters are in golems.

  • Turn in your RPs in this thread using the form and following the instructions here.

  • If you have any questions, PM TiH Student Council. Have fun!

User ImageWhere is it?
This was the first portal to appear and as such, everyone wants inside! It is located just outside the cave that leads into the hot springs, and it's very crowded. Several gnomes have been stationed here to keep students, horsemen, and citizens in line, but they have to be swapped out regularly in the face all of the pure, unadulterated love pouring out of the portal. It makes their skin melt off a little bit.

What's Inside?
You emerge from this portal in a hedge maze, its walls so high that even the strongest fliers, climbers, and teleporters doubt they can scale them. The sky far above is a pale pink and every so often a wispy heart-shaped cloud drifts into view between the branches and leaves. Despite the height of the walls, the maze's interior is lit with a pinkish glow.

What Do I Do?
Try to fly/climb/teleport out:
You can't. The hedges go on for, like, ever.

Attempt to find your way out of the maze some other way:
Whether you're having a leisurely stroll or a shaky, claustrophobia-induced jog through the maze, eventually you notice the stone kushi-kushis. They peek out of the foliage at random intervals, mostly when you're not looking for them, their vacant little faces staring up at the sky.

People are talking. They say the only way to get out is to kiss the kushis.

Quote:
Roll 2d12 per post and match your results with the image/numbers below. Each dot or pair of numbers is a kushi-kushi that you may kiss if you roll its location.

Kushi-kushis:

12,1; 12,5; 12,8; 12,11; 12,12

How Do I Leave?
Each person must locate and kiss five kushi-kushis in order for the portal to appear at the end of the maze. It will take you back to the hot springs.

This creamy, brown portal was the second to appear. It is located outside the creepateria and is the only upright portal of the five. Since it is actually made of chocolate, many students take a bite out of it on the way inside. Even with all of the gouges and teeth marks, it seems no closer to collapsing.

What's Inside?
Upon stepping through the chocolate portal, you immediately discover there's no floor and an excess of gravity. Seconds later, you splash down in a deep pool of, you guessed it, chocolate. The pool is circular, thankfully, as is the room that houses it, so you're never that far away from the edge. You'll just have to swim for it.

What Do I Do?
Try to escape chocolate bathtime by flapping your wings as hard as you can as soon as you step through:
You can't. Excess of gravity.

Swim:
Quote:
Roll 2d10. This is the number of strokes you need to stroke in order to escape the pool.

Roll 1d8 in each subsequent post. This is how far you swam in that post. Keep swimming until your cumulative total is equal to or higher than the total you rolled in your first post.

Help someone else to shore:
Quote:
Once they have rolled 2d10 to determine how far they need to go, another person may continue rolling 1d8 to help a character that might be having trouble swimming. There are large, thin metal forks on shore that can be extended over the chocolate pool and grabbed by floundering creatures, or the person doing the saving can just jump back in and carry their friends.

How Do I Leave?
All you must do is reach the shore. The room's inner walls are portals that will take you back to the creepateria.

This golden portal is shaped like a pair of interlocking human world wedding bands (or a peanut) and can be found at the edge of the Forbidden Forest. If you listen closely, you can hear a voice whisper
MOOOOOOLD as you climb through.

What's Inside?
You drop into a warm, dim space lit only by the candles slowly burning on the table across the room. A pair of plush bears—one white, the other pink—sit opposite one another, staring blissfully into each others' beady, plastic eyes. They look ready to eat, but there's no romantic dinner.

You turn, belatedly noticing a door that looks like it leads into a full service kitchen.

What Do I Do?
Try to leave:
You can't. It seems there's no way out.

Manhandle the bears:
They're quite sturdy. Their skin doesn't rip when you claw at them or stab them. They don't speak to you when addressed either. They just stare at each other and occasionally slowly raise a hand to their mouths and point.

Serve the bears:
Quote:
Roll 3d6. Make a dish that incorporates the ingredients you roll, plate it, and give it to the bears.

First die:
  1. milk chocolate
  2. filet mignon
  3. caramel
  4. red wine
  5. condoms
  6. lilies

Second die:
  1. red hots
  2. white chocolate
  3. red roses
  4. champagne
  5. marshmallows
  6. roasted quail

Third die:
  1. rainbow sprinkles
  2. dark chocolate
  3. chalky candy hearts with messages on them
  4. ribbons
  5. salmon
  6. white wine

How Do I Leave?
Feed the bears. Once each person prepares a dish, a portal will open that will take you back to the Forbidden Forest.

This white portal undulates captivatingly, emitting a soothing song to anyone within earshot. It floats between the indoor gym and the arena, moving slowly enough to enter casually most of the time, but occasionally speeding up to the point where it must be chased.

What's Inside?
Something soft collides with your face as you hop through. Several other soft things follow suit when you bend to see what the first thing was. It was a dove, but now it's sleeping. They're all doves, divebombing directly for your dome. It's a good thing they don't appear to have any bones or they might actually hurt.

What Do I Do?
There's a large bullseye suspended high on one wall of this doorless room and a pile of stupid, boneless, unconscious doves that is growing by the second at your feet. There is really only one thing to do.

Quote:
Roll 1d100. If you roll 1-60, you hit the bullseye with a dove. If you roll a 61-100, you don't.

Wait, I want to eat a dove:
Mmm. It's delicious if you're into feathery, raw food. Have another! The supply seems rather infinite.

How Do I Leave?
Hit the bullseye five times to open a portal back to the gym. Others may throw doves for those who do not want to, as long as there are (5 x the number of people RPing) doves successfully thrown by the end of the RP.

This purple portal likely wouldn't have been found at all if it wasn't screaming. A rickety ladder has been propped up on the side of the auditorium to help those who cannot fly reach the roof fairly safely.

What's Inside?
Much like the interior of the red portal, this area has a pink sky with wispy heart-shaped clouds. Rather than being confined to a maze, however, you are in the middle of an open, grassy field that never seems to end.

What Do I Do?
Try to reach the end of the field:
It never ends. Eventually you come back around to where you were.

Something is lumbering toward you.

Forever Alone Monster
80 HP

5 damage to you with each successful hit

Kill it. You may use any FEAR attacks in your arsenal if you are a student, horseman, or approved civilian. Quest students may use 2d6-6 to attack and they have 30HP but no FEAR attacks. Hunters in golems may use 2d4-4 to attack, have 10HP and no FEAR attacks as well. They may pendant back to Deus as needed.

How Do I Leave?
Fight the Forever Alone monster until either you or it are dead. The portal reopens and you get the OOC prizes no matter who dies. You may reenter and fight again for bragging rights if you want, as long as you don't claim the prizes a second time.

Claim your minipet prizes and RP points in this thread with the form below!

You must complete and submit each RP you want to claim a prize for by February 28, 11:59pm PST. In this case, "completion" means that the person turning in the RP wrote 600 words in it, not that it has ICly reached a conclusion, though you should also show that you have made an honest effort to implement the dice mechanics. Don't just turn in five 600-word openings!

You may only claim two RP points once per portal for each of your characters (up to 10 points total per character) and the minisite prize once per player. If you choose to go through a portal for a second time for whatever reason, the RP would be subject to normal rules (800 words for 1 RP point). Quests are not eligible to receive RP points.
