R O W A N-[What am I called?]- Rowan Sodur
-[What will I be?]-
Civilian path with a focus on potions, herbalism, and alchemy. The ultimate goal is to discover a panacea - a brew that can heal all wounds and illnesses and prolong life indefinitely. The promise of eternal life is very tempting to a race that has no soul, and therefore no afterlife. This would fall somewhere between being a scholar and being a craftsperson.
-[Who am I?]-I am confident: Rowan has generations of skilled and brilliant women behind her. She is being raised by an aunt who really knows her s**t. Additionally, Rowan has been raised with a clear understanding of her purpose in life and a belief that her purpose is valuable. This creates in her a solid sense of who she is. Rowan rarely questions herself or her decisions, and if she is going to get herself into a scrape, she is going to jump in with both feet first. Unfortunately, with great confidence comes a tendency to act like a know-it-all. Rowan has little patience for those who appear weak or timid and has the unfortunate habit of bossing around or taking advantage those people.
I am ambitious: Rowan will go to great lengths to increase her skills and knowledge, they are her main focus in life. The cause of her ambition is two-fold. Her aunt is extremely ambitious herself, and Rowan is picking up and internalizing that trait. Additionally, she feels that she can somehow keep her mother close to her by fulfilling the role her mother always wanted her to fill. She channels all of the emotions she would rather not feel into her studies. Sometimes her quest for knowledge takes her too far. She will sometimes grow so focused on a small detail that she misses the bigger picture. She has been known to forget to eat or sleep and without paying attention to her own needs she sometimes grows ill. Rowan is not terribly skilled at stopping to enjoy life and smell the roses, it's a lesson she could stand to learn.
I am feminine: Rowan likes to be pretty. Despite her tendency to over-focus on her work, she is still a young girl and falls prey to her vanity more often than not. Rich jewel toned colors with elaborate embroidery and beautiful fabrics. Expensive and high quality jewels. Even her room is a bastion of opulence and beauty. Rowan lives a very comfortable lifestyle and has grown to feel entitled to having the things that she wants when she wants them. At this stage, her vanity has not interfered in her interpersonal relationships, but she is at risk for it to become a greater issue.
I am lonely: At this stage, the only person Rowan really has in her life is her aunt, and their relationship is only close when it comes to Rowan's apprenticeship. While Corwen is more than thrilled to have a neice to educate, she has little use for the girl outside of the classroom and pretty much leaves Rowan to do as she pleases. After the loss of her family, Rowan has trouble relating to other kids her age, and a general fear that anyone she grows close to will abandon her. While you would never know it from looking at her, deep down Rowan is a deeply lonely and isolated girl. Her tendency towards bossiness can alienate her, and those perceived rejections just cause Rowan to dive deeper into her studies. Books and potions are far more trustworthy than most people. As she begins to explore the world and meet new people, it is hopeful that Rowan will start to open up and make some real friends.
-[Where have I come from?]- The Sodur women track their bloodline matrilinealy, and pass down to their daughters the knowledge that they have gathered throughout the ages. They have a long history of mother teaching daughter, believing that they can live on through their family's lore and secrets. As long as there is one Sodur woman seeking the panacea, the bloodline remains strong. Rowan has lived all her life with the knowledge that she would follow in her mother's footsteps. There was never any question that she would do anything else - some things are inevitable. She has always been happy enough with this knowledge. After all, Rowan has been raised with the belief that what they are working towards is noble and important and could have great impact upon the Oblivionite culture as a whole.
Rowan's early childhood was fairly uneventful. She lived with her parents and her older brother, and for an Oblivionite family they were unusually demonstrative and loving towards one another. Steeped in the stories her mother told her, Rowan spent most of her days following her around like a puppy and being generally precocious and adorable. All was well with the world until the eve of Rowan's tenth birthday. She is still uncertain about what actually happened that night. She went to bed, and woke up excited to celebrate her birthday - Ten was the age at which she would be allowed to start truly learning her mother's craft. It should have been a big day for Rowan. But instead, it turned out to be filled with confusion and fear. There was no one to wake her, or to prepare her breakfast or help her dress. everyone was just... gone. Gone without a trace. Father, brother, and beloved mother.
This marked a significant change in Rowan's life. With her immediate family mysteriously gone and quite possibly dead, she found herself taken in by her mother's oldest sister, Corwen Sodur. Corwen was not nearly as nurturing or loving as Rowan's family had been. She was, however, wealthy and ambitious and extremely intelligent. And despite her lack of overt affection, she welcomed Rowan and loved her in her own peculiar way. Corwen had no daughter of her own, and was pleased to be able to pass on the family knowledge in place of her sister.
Rowan began her apprenticeship under the strict instruction of her aunt and threw herself into her studies. Her apprenticeship was the only thing
that distracted her from the haunting thoughts of what may have become of her family.
