It had been a simple errand that Rowan had been sent out on. One that a child such as herself should be more than capable of handling alone and with acceptable competence. Her aunt Corwen had sent her along with a written set of directions to the apothecary shop - not the usual apothecary shop. There was something different about this one, though aunt Corwen hadn't deemed it necessary for Rowan to know what that important difference was.
It should have been simple, at least. And Rowan had absolutely no idea how she had gotten so terribly and firmly lost. The little Oblivionite frowned, making her way towards yet another corner with street names that she had never heard of before. This part of Obsidian city was darker than the rest, which in itself was quite a feat. The buildings seemed closer together, and they twisted and leaned over the street as if reaching out to each other. Most of the windows were darkened, and the streets were unusually empty for such a cosmopolitan city. The passersby Rowan had tried to ask for help had merely ignored her and sped up their steps, hurrying away down this alley or that twisty little side street.
"Double drat!" Rowan cursed under her breath, stepping in a muddy puddle that discolored her pale boot. Somehow, today was just not quite working out the way she had expected. She should have the goods from the apothecary and be home by now, curled up with a nice big text book and a snack. But no. She was lost, and the way things were looking, she may never find herself in a recognizable part of town again. "Drat!" She cursed again, the markings on her face and hands - which usually just glowed dimly - flared in a bright flash of light.

It was unusual for a member of the Order of the Onyx to be out and about, especially within the city, but Adrastea found herself on a run to the city for supplies for her fellow Fangs. They needed a few specialty potions for whatever reason she was unsure, and it was in Adra's backyard. She was so accustomed to the city streets, though in the past these people were looking upon her in awe, being Draco's descendant, but now she had her new facade, which she had become accustomed to, and she was just another person on the street and warrior of Soudana.
The specialty shop she needed to visit was off in the dark district, a place where evil reigned more supreme and people weren't as likely to be out and about. She walked with confidence wherever she went, however, and she was filled with bravery for such a young woman. Anyone else would generally be a little nervous walking the streets of this part of the city, but not Adra, she had confidence in herself and her abilities to succeed in any fight. Even when she did lose a fight or need to get away from a dragon, her confidence was not shaken. If anything, she would be pressed to find more power within herself and it would push her to become a better archer and overall fighter.
She walked down the winding streets until she overheard a voice in the distance. It was the voice of a child. "Drat!" she heard. Adra raised a brow. It wasn't in the woman to let the girl's idiocy get her killed and thus, the Oblivionite felt it within her to take the side street only to find the girl who seemed extremely lost at first sight.
"Are you trying to get yourself killed?" the Adept whispered sharply as she walked up towards the girl. "You do realize what district this is, right? Don't be dull. Follow me." she whispered, shaking her head and turning back to go towards the alchemist's shop, leaving it up to the girl to follow or not. It would be of her own stupidity to stay and continue wandering the dangerous streets aimlessly. The girl was probably too young to even realize where they were. Adra was never allowed to come here when she lived within the confines of Draco's walls. But, people needed to know the dangers of this place, and it was in the girl's best interest to instruct her on said dangers. Oblivionites didn't take as much care or concern in the lives of their comrades and thus, most Oblivionites had no further thought on the death of their own. Just a sad fact of Oblivionite life.

Rowan had several conflicting reactions to the older Oblivionite woman when she was approached. First was relief - here was someone who may be able to help her! Indeed, the woman's words indicated that she would lead Rowan out of this unfamiliar place. Second was admiration, the woman was beautiful - so poised and commanding, the very picture of what Rowan herself hoped to be one day. Then, however, the insults within Adrastea's comments managed to penetrate Rowan's mind and she bristled faintly, no one could ever consider her dull! Rowan was confident that she knew her own strengths, and cleverness was certainly one of them. In fact, Rowan prided herself on being clever. It was hardly her fault that she was lost, the city was huge and she was only twelve years old, after all. The woman was walking off, she hadn't stayed to witness Rowan's decision. The younger Oblivionite paused for the briefest of moments, but the decision was really quite an easy one to make. Clearly the red-headed woman knew more about this area - and probably many other things - than Rowan did. She might even share some of her wisdom, if Rowan played her cards right. And anyways, this was probably her only chance to find her way out of this warren. Rowan's short little legs had to work to catch up with Adrastea's longer ones, but she caught up with her and trotted alongside her. "I don't know what district this is." Rowan told the woman in a low voice, assuming since Adrastea had whispered it would be smart to behave similarly. Perhaps there were spies nearby. "My aunt sent me on an errand, and I got lost."

Nemophile So sorry for the late response. <3 But I have to say Rowan is so beautiful and I already love her character. T u T b You're such a good writer! Adrastea smirked a bit as she heard the steps of the little one behind her. Good. She had listened the the Adept's advice and was now following behind. After all, she could have just scoffed and left in the opposite direction, possibly to her death, who knew?
It was then that the girl came up alongside her and began to chat, explaining to Adra what she was doing here in the first place, that she was lost and sent by her aunt on an errand. That didn't sit well with Adrastea. The district was full of thugs and thieves, willing to kill anyone who came in for some gold. It was terrible, really, that one of the best alchemists in all of Magesc lived in one of the dirtiest dumps in all of Obsidian City.
Adrastea ignored the girls comments for a bit longer, until they made their way inside of a small apothecary shop that the Adept was looking for. When they were settled inside, no one was there. This was the perfect moment for the adept to explain the situation.
"You're aunt must be an idiot to send a child here without supervision. Either that, or she doesn't know of the dangers of this district. Do be wise and don't come here unless you're ready to face some rather…unsavory foes." Adra stated, looking away for the latter moment. She hadn't realized how adorable the girl was, all dressed up, until now. It was rare to see another Oblivionite that she actually seemed take a liking to. What was this fabled emotion? Did kindness really exist within her at all? She pushed those thoughts aside for the moment and decided to probe the girl with another question.
"Where are you from, anyway? Most everyone from within the city knows the facts about it." she asked, solely out of curiosity. This was all so weird for Adrastea. She had only ever looked out for her own best interest. It was strange to feel the desire to help another person, for she was a hard shell to crack. Maybe it was pity for the girl…after all, if she had died out there, it would be meaningless and stupid. This district was not meant for children to go exploring, and Adra knew that.

Brolis No worries on the wait! I'm glad you like Rowan! If she and Adra keep getting along, Adra might find herself with a new little shadow, lol. "I just moved to the city to live with my aunt two years ago." Rowan, said, peering around the apothecary's shop with interest. "I lived somewhere else before." She didn't want to go into detail about before. Before was confusing and painful to think about, and she would rather avoid it. Rowan didn't even discuss her lost family with aunt Corwen, and Corwen was family. "But I only started going out by myself a few months ago." She added, proudly. Adra's other comments regarding her safety and this district niggled at Rowan's conscience, and she felt the need to justify her aunt's actions to this strangely compelling woman. "I don't think that my aunt meant me to come to any harm." She said slowly, "but if I am to learn to survive, and if I am to be successful, I must be able to handle challenging situations." This was said as if she considered herself a fully grown Oblivionite, and not just a mere slip of a girl. In reality, Corwen probably hadn't given a great deal of consideration to the location she was sending her niece to. Her expectations for a girl so young were staggering, and Rowan had begun to think of herself as much older than she actually was due to the pressure.

Nemophile Hehe, that would be quite fun. I haven't had much planned with Adra yet, so I wonder how she would react. >:3 Adrastea couldn't help but crack a smile. The girl definitely had some confidence in herself, despite her young age. She knew what she needed to do, she was rather smart after all. Being able to handle difficult and challenging situations was a huge part of growth, and she already knew that. She also defended her aunt's actions, even after the knowledge of this place came to fruition. Loyalty. That was one thing that this girl had figured out. Family loyalty was the most important point. The fact that she was able to defend her aunt's actions and be wise enough to know that she must learn to be successful were both very important and Adrastea and grown to respect her more already than she had learned to respect most anyone else. Maybe it was, in part, due to the fact that Adrastea felt the need to help the child in any way possible. It was the strangest feeling that she couldn't quite help but feel. For if it was anyone else walking the streets, Adrastea would have simply let them be. But there was something about the girl's voice that enchanted her to want to help. A sisterly bond sparked, perhaps? Adra couldn't quite pin it down, and the only thing she knew was that she hadn't ever felt quite like this before.
"Well, you're definitely wise, even in your young age. Learn to survive and handle those challenging situations. You have quite the aptitude for wisdom. Hmm…and trust me, I very rarely say that of anyone. You will do fine as you grow, I'm sure of it." the adept stated.
Suddenly, the apothecary came out from the back. "There you are. I need some supplies." she stated, turning her complete attention to the woman behind the counter. The woman nodded and after a few moments, she had a sack in hand full of alchemical supplies needed. Adra slapped down the gold coins and grabbed the sack.
Turning around to the girl once more, Adra asked, "What was the errand your aunt sent you on, anyway? Anything you need my help with?"

Brolis I think they'll be really cute. ^_^ The older Oblivionite's praise warmed Rowan's heart. She didn't get a great deal of praise, despite her hard work and striving to impress her aunt. She was certain that once she had chosen a profession and started her training in earnest, Corwen would become a little bit warmer. And she knew that her aunt approved of her and was proud of her. But she didn't get words of praise often, and she found herself both blushing and smiling under the kind words. When the apothecary came out, Rowan watched with interest to see what Adrastea was ordering. And once she had received her items, it was Rowan's turn. "She actually sent me to this shop. Except I got lost." Rowan said, turning to the apothecary and informing the woman she was picking up the monthly order for Corwen Sodur. Rowan, too, received a bulging bag. She didn't bother to find out what was inside it, she just stood on her tiptoes and plunked her own money down on the counter. Then she turned back to Adrastea. "My name is Rowan." She said, realizing that she had been horribly impolite, and feeling significantly more comfortable after Adrastea had said such nice things to her. Praising Rowan's dress or looks would get you a smile. But praising her cleverness and skill would garner you her admiration. "Thank you for helping me. I... I don't suppose you could help me find my way out of this part of town?" She was hesitant to ask, Adrastea had already been so helpful and she didn't want to impose. But she was fairly certain that if she tried to find her own way out of this warren, she would get lost again. And she wasn't eager to repeat that experience.

Adrastea was sort of shocked that this was the same place that the little Oblivionite was to come. Luckily for her, Adra was also here on business, so it was nice that the two were actually sent to the same place. Coincidence, yes, but it was nice to meet her, the first person she had met that she actually came into liking in a very, very long time.
"It's very nice to make your acquaintance, Rowan. I'm Adrastea Morrowin, but many people call me Adra." she said, a small smile creeping upon her face. It was weird to feel 'happy'. Adra couldn't remember the last time she had truly smiled or been happy. It was probably when her parents were still alive, before she went to live with Draco and got herself tangled up into this huge web of lies. She liked her new persona, yet she did miss the attention she used to acquire when everyone knew her as "Draco's only living descendant".
"Follow me." was the only response she was able to give to the girl, who asked for her help out of this district. After all, Adra wouldn't be able to feel comfortable unless this girl, now known to her as Rowan, was safe and out of harms way.
As they began their trek out of the dangerous district, Adra began to speak up rather quietly still. "If you ever need my help again, I live deep within the forests of Endeldarth. I will find you. My tracking skills are increasing with time and I would be willing to help you again if ever the need arises." Adra stated, rather monotoned and hard than soft and compassionate. She wasn't used to feeling this way, but offering her assistance to the girl would at least allow her to potentially see her again someday.
It was a very strange feeling, being able to help someone. It wasn't very often that Adra felt like this. Normally her anger fueled the fire for a lot of things. Her hatred and disgust of the people of Magesc inspired her to kill and do so without mercy. But it was people like Rowan, like her deceased mother, that tugged the heartstrings of the hardened heart and made the walls fall down. It was nice to feel helpful again. Adra knew that she would definitely try to keep this connection and allow it to prosper more.

Rowan trotted after Adra, feeling much safer now that she had an escort out of the tricky part of town. She was able to relax enough to take in the sights and memorize the route they were taking. It was deliciously creepy and seedy, though Rowan wasn't entirely sure whether or not she was actually intrigued, or just grateful for being rescued. "Thank you." She said, in response to Adra's offer of aid. "I haven't been very far into the forests yet. Though I'm sure I will find my way there, since I will have to learn how to hunt for ingredients and things. I live in the sable district." She added, naming an area of town that was known for it's elaborate homes and wealthy citizens. "Maybe..." Rowan paused, unsure whether or not the request would be appropriate or not. She was rather awkward with social situations, preferring books to other people most of the time. "Perhaps you could show me through the forest, sometime." She said, the words coming quickly as if she just wanted to get them over with.

Adrastea smirked as the girl spoke. She was diligent in learning the route to the old apothecary shop, because no doubt would she need to return here alone at some point, thus making it almost a necessity to learn the route. Adrastea had been here few times herself, but knowing the city was one thing she needed to learn ever since she was very young. Knowing the people she would one day rule over was quite handy, after all.
A nod and soft grunt emitted from the older Oblivionite's throat in response to the girls thankfulness. Adra listened to the girl's explanation and, upon hearing the words "sable district" was further intrigued.
"Ah, the wealthy district. Hmm…" she began, thinking on her time as an Apprentice, living very nearby, considering Castle Oblivion, her grandfather's living area, was quite close to the sable district. She enjoyed her reminiscent thinking to the point a smirk grew across her face, but it quickly dissipated when she remembered where she was now. The Order wasn't a bad place, and they took care of their own, but being what she was to them wasn't always that pleasant a thought.
Upon hearing her request, Adrastea smiled. "I would enjoy that. Endeldarth is my home and I'll gladly show you around in the future whenever you wish." she said.
This girl had something about her that Adra just couldn't quite put her finger on. Normally girls…hell, normally everyone got on Adra's nerves to the highest degree. But the fact that this girl reminded her of her lost mother was a large reason as to why she wasn't annoying, she assured herself.

Rowan couldn't hide the flush of pleasure that colored her cheeks when Adra said she would be willing to show the younger girl around. She didn't have many friends, becoming close to people was not something Rowan was very good at. But Adra seemed so nice. And competent. And smart. And tough. She was the sort of woman an Oblivionite girl could look up to. Her steps took on a lighter, almost skipping quality to them. "Thank you." She managed, grinning up at Adra. The disconcertingly close and dark streets were widening out, and Rowan recognized the main thoroughfare they were coming up to. "I mean it, thank you so much. I... I can find my way from here." Rowan hesitated a moment, and then dashed in and gave Adra a quick, tight little hug. It was utterly unlike her, but something in Rowan missed the casual affection her family had shared before they had been taken away. And she wanted to show her appreciation for all Adra's help. Blushing furiously and feeling a little embarrassed about her show of affection, Rowan didn't give Adra a chance to respond. She dashed off down the street, turning once to wave at Adra.
