"Are you really sure about this?" Maeron grumbled out loud, stuffing a pair of wooly socks into a backpack. He felt a stab of indignance through the Bond and couldn't suppress a roll of his eyes at his feathered companion.

"You said-" Darke started, and Mae instantly knew he wouldn't be getting out of this one. "That once we were older, you'd see my homeland with me. Well, we're older! And I'm tired of waiting!" Mae sighed loudly. Aisko was so far away... And he was lucky if Darke could carry him home from the city! Let alone across the ocean! A claw jabbed him in the side, and Mae let out a humiliating squeak of surprise. "I know what you're thinking!" Darke reminded him with a scoff.

So, Mae switched his train of thought. He had wanted to get off Serenia for some time now. His home had become incredibly boring and docile compared to Serenia, despite the Aeduans they'd run in to... He felt a wave of smugness through the bond. "Don't get cocky!" Mae scoffed, grabbing his muzzle and giving him a playful shake. Darke retaliated by snapping at his fingers. Of course, he he wasn't careful, he'd eventually pop them right off. While the Alikein chuckled playfully and sent images of his devilish deeds to Mae, the boy scowled. "Let's go, then." The Orderite grumbled, swinging his leg over Darke's back as he hefted his backpack.

And with that the Aiskala took to the skies, excitement and eagerness fueling his wings. Of course... Mae's hesitance (which he was unsuccessfully trying to conceal) was a bit of a downer. Eventually, Darke let out a sigh. "Why don't we just go to Eowyn instead?" He muttered. "I'll give you a bit longer to reconcile yourself to the idea of facing a tougher challenge than some boring desert!"

The Orderite patted his companion's neck. "Alright, my friend. Thank you for your considerations." Darke scowled, but changed courses nonetheless, and they were landing in the baking heat of the sun off the sand in no time at all. Mae grinned and gave Darke a friendly nudge as he dismounted. "You were just a youngling last time we were here!" He chuckled.

Darke fanned his wing, giving Mae a push that sent him face-first into the sand. "As were you!" The Alikein snorted, still sending off displeasured vibes.

The Orderite could only roll his eyes. Maybe once they found some trouble to get into Darke would cool off. Though in this heat.... Seemed unlikely.

The scorching heat nearly undid Rowan as she disembarked the ship she had taken to Eowyn. She adjusted her shirt, which was made from a material that was lightweight, but would protect her from the beating sun. It was so bright here! Nothing at all like Soudul. Her recent studies had convinced her that water from lake Koralifel was absolutely vital for the end result she desired. But there were so many things that she didn't know about, things whose properties she was desperate to discover. And some of those things could only be found in Eowyn.

Rowan had grown more confident as she continued to make new and exciting discoveries in her work. She had even begun to earn her aunt's approval more easily. No longer was she the lost little child she once had been. Rowan had grown into a vital and driven young lady who was more than capable of traveling all the way to Eowyn all by herself. She didn't need anyone to look after her, not anymore.

Taliuma was a vital and exciting town, and Rowan tried very hard not to stare as she was faced with a huge variety of people bustling around and going about their business. She had seen the occasional Orderite before, and had once had a conversation with a young Dovaa boy. But the sheer volume of people here was a little overwhelming. She was used to crowded Obsidian city, but there was not the same element of diversity there.

Her ultimate goal was to get to The Tree of Alderreth and get her hands on the fabled fruit that grew in its branches. But there were some things she would like to pick up in Taliuma as well. The first step, however, was to find appropriate lodging. Rowan picked up her small bag and began to navigate the streets, looking for a place to stay.

Mae grumbled as he picked himself up out of the sand. He wasn't sure what had Darke up on his high horse of late, but it was becoming rather frustrating. Already, the sun blaring down on him had him sweating, and the tiny, itchy grains of sand clung to him where he'd hit the ground. "That was kind of rude." He shot at the Alikein with a scowl, trying to scrape the grains from his arms. Naturally, it seemed like it only made it worse. "I guess we need to find someplace to clean up at now..." The Orderite grumbled, setting off across the sand.

From Darke's back, he'd seen a city not too far off. For all the time he'd spent on Eowyn, he'd never actually ventured into one of its cities before... Judging from their apparent position, it would be Taliuma, he thought...? They were still decently close to the ocean, so that seemed right. Maybe there'd be a decent bath there, and a snack Mae could use to bribe Darke into a better mood with.

The trek seemed much longer with the sky overhead. Mae would've begged his friend to just fly them there, if he couldn't plainly see that his Aiskalan companion was clearly suffering under the sun much worse than he was. But when the shade of the buildings came into view, Darke galloped forward his tail violently smacking passerby as he dove into the cover of a nearby building.

"Don't be so dramatic!" Mae scoffed, running up to join him. "Look, you're going to hurt someone, behaving like that!" The Orderite admonished, gesturing to a few passerby that had dove from the Alikein's way.

Hurt someone indeed. Rowan hadn't been swiped by the tail, but she had been standing in the shade of the same building that Darke had leapt towards and she had managed to get sprayed by sand and dust as he barreled past. Rowan wasn't certain what it was about strange Drakein creating havoc when she was around, but it surely couldn't be entirely coincidental. Brushing her hands over her clothing to remove the offending dust, Rowan looked over to see who it was that was creating such an outburst in the middle of town.

The Drakein was of the feathered sort, which she had not had the opportunity to come into close contact with before. She could tell the creature was pale and handsome. Her gaze drifted over to the man who had run up behind the Drakein and her eyebrow raised. Pale and handsome as well, it seemed. And an Orderite. She knew that was what he must be, though she had rarely seen them. Orderites very rarely spent time on Soudul. And why would they? Their kind was hardly welcomed. Rowan knew that she was expected to dislike their race on principle. Her aunt certainly had nothing to do with them, and Rowan had vague memories of her father being vehemently opposed to their very existence.

She should have looked away, but she couldn't quite seem to do it. His wings matched those of the Drakein - all feathered. To Rowan, the appendages were absolutely fascinating and she had difficulty tearing her eyes away. Orderites had souls. So did Drakein. She wondered if their feathers possessed any special properties that might be useful to her, though she knew she was unlikely to ever find out. What Orderite would give a feather to an Oblivionite?

The feathery Aiskala huffed in annoyance, shaking his head to clear the rising dust from his eyes. How dare Mae admonish him? It was the boy's fault they were here, anyway. If he'd simply been more willing and supportive of the Aisko idea... But no. Instead, he was in this hot, arid land with all these strangers. Very. Unwelcome. Strangers. Standing about and staring at him in all his glory. Yes, he was a marvelous sight, but that didn't make it any less rude. Darke fanned his wings and gave them a few powerful flaps, sending all the clouds of dust whipping away from him. It was so dirty here...

Mae groaned and covered his eyes as the wave of grime washed over him and blew on its way. He approached his companion and patted that soft, feathered neck. "I guess it's best if you get it all out now..." He muttered. Although, it would've been even better if he was rid of his frustrations in the desert, when no one else was around. Now he was just making a spectacle of himself. And while Mae wasn't one to shy away from attention, being gawked at by so many suspiciously unsavory individuals didn't make him feel that great. He was pretty sure the masses of Dovaa and Oblivionites and Hybrids (especially if the Hrybrids he'd met before were any indication) were probably painfully quick to anger...

Out of the corner of his eye, he could make out a voluptuous maiden staring at him with some strange amount of interest. The Orderite found himself hunkering closer to his companion before turning the full force of his stare right back at her. She was obviously Oblivionite, with dark skin, long dark hair, and that creepy lack of eyeballs that always had a way of unnerving the Orderite. It was clear by the smattering of smudges across her clothing that she'd been in Darke's crossfire. Since she wasn't blatantly racist against them, he supposed he could offer at least some form of apology... "Sorry for the fuss." He uttered, teal orbs staring at her unwaveringly, despite the lack of conviction in his voice.

Rowan stood a little straighter when he addressed her, shoulders back and her chin up. He certainly didn't sound sincere, but that could hardly matter - who would expect interracial sincerity in this day and age? She tossed her hair and narrowed her eyes at Mae, one eyebrow raised.

"It's quite alright." She said. "Your... companion seems enthusiastic." She added, with a nod towards Darke. She wasn't certain about the pair - the Orderite seemed irritable, which could make him potentially hostile. Though he had been polite, she was certain he didn't mean it. It was possible she was barking up the wrong tree, but Rowan was suddenly overcome with the urge to acquire some Orderite feathers and, if possible, something even more intimate like blood or tears. She wasn't certain how to go about it, but maybe if she made nice with this Orderite she could learn something about the race. So Rowan did something rare for her - she smiled at Mae.

Mae could only scoff at the woman. Enthusiastic, indeed. The Orderite thought it was more obnoxious than anything else. Rude little bugger. The notion was only furthered as his companion stared at the Oblivionite through widened blue eyes. Mae gave Darke's muzzle a push to knock the intensity out of his gaze. Although, the Orderite couldn't really blame him. She was the first Oblivionite they'd ever seen all up close and personal. They'd met one other, but he'd been all bandaged up and hiding his weird eyeless sockets. 'Can she even see us?' Darke hissed softly through their mental link, like he was afraid she could intrude on their very thoughts.

'I guess.' Mae responded in like, facing Darke, though watching the woman out of the corner of his eye. 'I mean, I don't really have the problem of not having eyeballs...'

The Alikein's feathery tail wagged in amusement. 'She looks happy to see you!' He interjected cheerily.

"D-don't be ridiculous!" Mae shouted, wave of embarrassed heat rising to his cheeks as he turned teal orbs back on the woman. "What's that look for?" He demanded curtly.

When Mae shouted, the smile was immediately wiped from Rowan's face and replaced with an expression of alarm. Despite her attempts at being pleasant, social interactions were not the Oblivionite's strong suit, and she was not at all adept at navigating tricky social waters. The few people she had met outside of her aunt's social circle had been kind, but there had only been one that she had really felt connected with - and that had been another Oblivionite.

"I... what look? I was only trying to..." The girl blustered a bit, finding herself at a loss for words. This was not at all going the way she had hoped. But perhaps this was just how all Orderites interacted with people. Maybe it wasn't actually personal, but his sharp tone of voice certainly daunting. Rowan, however, was not the sort of girl who just bowed under pressure. She narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms, taking a breath to regain her composure.

"That look" she said, once she had control of her tongue, "was a smile. Where I come from, people smile at one another to indicate that they are of a friendly mindset. Are all Orderites completely without manners, or are you just special?" She said this last bit rather bitingly.

As a unit, Darke and Mae shifted backwards at the woman's brusque tone. They'd met their fair share of unsavory souls, and it wasn't particularly uncommon for them to come in contact with someone hostile. But at very least, no one had smiled before chewing them out. That usually came after. 'I definitely think she can see you.' Darke hissed as the stranger lapsed into silence.

Mae was fairly certain the outburst didn't have anything to do with sight. He figured her foul mood had to be due to Darke and how the Alikein had splashed dirt and dust all over her. Still, that was no reason to berate him. Mae hadn't coated her with grime! But even during her tirade she'd claimed to be "of a friendly mindset." That was... peculiar... The only other Oblivionite he knew was also "of a friendly mindset," so to speak (he wasn't so easily offended, though).

Mae stared at the girl suspiciously, his violet-feathered wings rustling as he tried to figure out what was going on. Oblivionites were a such a queer race, for sure... "I wasn't trying to offend you." He retorted honestly. Then, he grinned mischievously. "But I am pretty special."

Hmph. The Oblivionite apparently hadn't meant to be a jerk, though he certainly seemed to have his share of overconfidence. That, however, was something Rowan could handle. Though she kept her distance from the pair for the moment, she did relax her posture significantly. "What brings you to Eowyn, Mister special?" She asked. Her tone was light, though the smile didn't grace her face again. At least, not yet.

The question had Mae grimacing. And for good reason. Darke's wings instantly fluffed out, and the Orderite felt a renewed surge of annoyance from him. While the Alikein had been weary of the Oblivionite, he suddenly felt she'd completely take his side over Mae's, and if that was the case, then she was a potential ally in his quest for knowledge and to meet with his own kind. Darke approached her, pulling away from his companion's touch in the process. "My beloved boy was to take me to Aisko to meet others of my kind." Here, the Alikein paused to huff and fan his wings. "But along the way he chickened out and refuses to grant my one request!"

"Aisko?" Rowan repeated, genuinely intrigued. "Thats the cold continent, yes? I hear there is a frozen lake there that has strong healing powers." She knew it would be impolite to start rambling on about her desire to study all things that had any sort of healing or magical properties. "I take it you are of the ice variety of Drakein?" She added, clearly more comfortable chatting casually with Darke than she had been interacting with Mae. This seemed to be the case with Rowan - she got along famously with Drakein, but struggled with other humanoids. "Though, aren't there Drakein here on Eowyn as well?" As she warmed up to Darke, her whole demeanor seemed to soften.

"What? C'mon, Darke, that's not even remotely true." Mae argued softly, feeling a bit offended by his companion's harsh and accusing tone. He patted the Alikein's back softly, only to receive a dismissive flick of Darke's tail across his arm and feel waves of displeasure coming from his very proud friend. The Orderite sighed softly and let his arm drop away.

Darke nodded briskly. "Yes." He agreed. "Mae used to read to me about it, but I've never been..." He could only sigh and shake his head at the silly woman's mention of Eowyn Drakein. "I've met Drakeins." He retorted. "But I want to meet other Aiskalas! Liek myself! I mean... maybe my mum and dad even live there..." Not that it mattered too much, of course! He would never be able to leave his Mae behind. He could sense an edge of distress coming from his boy, and he craned his neck around to give the Orderite an affectionately rough nudge. Still... It would be something amazing if he could meet his own parents...

"You've never met your parents?" Rowan asked, her brow furrowing. The subject of parents was a sensitive one to her, but it was a sensitive subject that she was hesitant to broach, especially with strangers. Much safer to stick with a focus on Darke and Mae. "Maybe you won't like them. Maybe they won't be what you hope they will be." She said quietly, then shrugged a bit. "Of course, it's none of my business, and I hope things work out well for you. I'm sure that your friend will go there with you, but maybe you ought to take the opportunity to explore where you are first."

Figuring out the new words for Drakein is going to be a pain. XP

Darke shook his head. He'd only ever known Mae. Even his companion's parents were scarce, so it was hard to conjure any type of imagining as to what his own could be like. Soft and feathery like him? Or strong and skilled like every other Khehora he'd met? He leaned down to stare more closely at Rowan, and her strange Oblivionite features. "How could anyone not like their own flesh and blood?" There should be no one closer than family! Of course, Darke only had Mae, and he was pretty sure the boy thought similarly of him. Maybe it was just a trait of her race to not like anyone. He could believe it. The Alihorha sighed and rolled his eyes over to his boy. Yes, maybe one day. There was still plenty of time. But his tail flicked irritably nonetheless. "There's nothing to explore in a stupid, hot, boring desert, anyway. He scoffed in annoyance.
