Beginning
Deciding to take a break from your training and lessons, you have wandered off to the sea side. How you travel to the shore is up to your imagination, but when you have finally arrived at your designation it is late afternoon. As you stroll along the sandy shore and enjoy the soothing sounds of the waves beating upon the shore, a glimmer inland catches your eye. Looking towards it you see what ever sparkled has vanished into a dark opening in the rocky hillside next to you.
As you wander over towards the hill, you can see that while it might be a tight squeeze, you think you can enter into the dark tunnel beyond.

Please write your reactions to this prompt and reasons for being here.
If you decide to leave without entering, then give a reason why and go to Quit.
If you wish to continue inside the tunnel, also give a reason why and go to Entering.

It was a lovely day, not too breezy but also not too warm. Rowan was enjoying a brief respite from her endless studies. Ostensibly, she was meant to be gathering some sort of shell that she would later have to grind down into a very fine powder. Aunt Corwen had not yet revealed to Rowan what the properties of the shells were, though Rowan had her suspicions. They could be used as binders to hold together pills, or even to glue on a plaster. Or perhaps there was some sort of healing quality within the shells themselves. To ease bowel cramps perhaps, or reduce fever. Whatever their purpose, Rowan would not find it out until after she returned and had completed the work of grinding them down. She understood the value of hard work, and she actually quite enjoyed it. But there was something oddly distracting about today, which was strange. Rowan was not an easily distractable girl.

A little ways away from the water's edge were some steep cliffs with all sorts of exciting looking nooks and crannies in them, and Rowan felt sure that there would be more shells over there. As she approached, she could swear she saw something glimmer in the light before disappearing. Intrigued, the young Oblivionite increased her pace and made her way to the cliffs. Yes, it must have gone in there. A small, dark little opening. But Rowan knew she could fit inside. Oh yes, she certainly could. And who knew... perhaps whatever it was that had shimmered so interestingly held value. It was, at the very least, worth looking into. At least that was what Rowan told herself as she slithered into the tunnel.

Entering
As you squeeze into the dark tunnel, you can see a little in front of you. There are small animal tracks in the dirt beneath you. Wiggling your way slowly through the tunnel, you come upon a side tunnel. Both trails have animal tracks, though the path forward seems more traveled. Will you continue forward or turn and go down the side tunnel? Or have you had enough and want to crawl backwards and leave?

Once again, please respond to this prompt, what are your character's thoughts and feelings as they travel through this dark cramped tunnel.

If you
A) go forward, Go to "A: Forward,"
B) go down the side tunnel, Go to "B: Side Tunnel"

The tunnel seemed to open up just the tiniest bit, but it was enough for Rowan to squeeze through without too much discomfort. More importantly, it was enough to spare her from ripping her clothing, which would have just been an absolute disaster. She was, after all, wearing her third best pair of boots (as she didn't want to get her first or second best boots all sandy) and her fourth favorite dress. While getting messy certainly came with the territory of herbalism and alchemy, there was really no excuse to needlessly ruin a lovely outfit if it could be at all avoided.

After a short distance, Rowan began to notice that there were faint animal tracks in the dirt floor of the cave. Well, that was interesting. It could mean that something was lying in wait for her - something creepy crawly and bitey. But it could also mean that the cave was a perfectly safe, animal friendly thoroughfare. In either case, she was in this far and might as well go ahead. To her side, another tunnel branched off and Rowan briefly considered taking it. But, no. She would continue down this path and then perhaps, on her way back, see where the other tunnel led her.

Forward
Deciding to ignore the side tunnel, you continue on-wards. It seems a long time passes as you crawl forward, hands and knees hurting from the rocky ground and back cramping. Suddenly the dim air lightens; a gleam appears in front of you. As you crawl towards the light.....

Please roll a d100!
A) 1-10:: you tumble off the cliff edge. The fall will not kill you, but it will hurt! Go to "A1: Fall!".
B) 11-100:: you notice the floor suddenly dropping away and stop in time to not fall. Go to "A2:: Aware of Surroundings"
Aware of Surroundings
While you are engaged in following the light, as you crawl you can feel the ground start to slope. Taking your eyes off the light, you see that in front of you the ground abruptly falls away! Good thing you were paying attention! As you crawl to the edge and look you see a small cavern light up from a hole in the ceiling. Tree roots have forced their way into this cave and opened up a path for light and water. A small pond has formed beneath the opening. In the middle of it you see a tiny island. It is covered in junk; apparently a small creature has been stock piling stolen goods in this cave. Perhaps the sparkle that led you here was that same creature coming to drop off more shiny items. Some rags, broken bottles and broken jewelry appear to make up the majority of the pile. But amidst the pile you can spot something sparkling in the light, it looks different from the rest of it. You can see a tunnel leading into the cavern across from you.

What do you do?
A) Fly down? Go to "Cavern Room"
B) Climb down? Roll a d100,
» 50-100: you make it down successfully, Go to "Cavern Room"

» 51-100: you slip and fall, but still make it into the cavern. Go to "Cavern Room"
C) Go back and try the side tunnel? Go to "Side Tunnel"
D) Leave the tunnels and cavern? Go to "Quit"

The tunnel grew tighter and Rowan was forced to her hands and her knees. She paused, considering whether or not to go forward at the expense of her dress. But she had come this far, it would make no sense to try and turn back now. The hard floor was peppered with sharp little stones that dug into the tender flesh of her hands and knees. While it was irritating, the discomfort kept her mindful enough of her surroundings that she stopped short when the floor of the tunnel dropped steeply away.

Approaching the edge cautiously, Rowan peered down through the hole. She appeared to be above a large cavern, lit from some source that she could not quite locate from so high up. Perhaps... yes! It appeared the small trees that were growing unexpectedly within the cave had broken things up enough for light to come through. Directly below her, there was a pond and in the middle, a tiny little island. So small that Rowan questioned whether or not she could really consider it an island at all. But it was covered with... junk. Rowan found herself grinning with anticipation. Who knew what sort of treasures might be in the trash heap below.

Taking a deep breath and throwing her shoulders back (as well as she could in a small, cramped little tunnel), Rowan decided that the only thing to do was to try and make her way down into the cavern. Removing her boots, she dropped them down the hole ahead of her, then cautiously climbed her way down into the main cavern room.

Cavern Room
Looking around at your surroundings you see a small cavern light up from a hole in the ceiling. Tree roots have forced their way into this cave and opened up a path for light and water. A small pond has formed beneath the opening. In the middle of it you see a tiny island. It is covered in junk. Some rags, broken bottles and broken jewelry. Also amid the pile you can spot something sparkling in the light. The only openings that you can leave or enter this room from are from a tunnel that comes out half way up the wall or a tunnel that leads off into the dark again.

What do you do? What are your character's thoughts?
Do you:
A) Approach the pond and its pile? Go to "Loot"
B) Leave? Go to "Leaving B" if you wish go out the tunnel halfway up the cavern wall or "Leaving A" if you wish to go out the tunnel in the wall.

Loot
Approaching the pile, you wade through the cold pond waters. It is not deep and you can see small fish swim away from your noisy intrusion. As you reach the pile, you can see it is mostly rocks and trash gathered by some small creature, but amidst the trash you find an Ayrala and Peisio Dragon Orb! (one for each participant)

Now to leave. Go to "Leaving B" if you wish go out the tunnel in the middle of the wall or "Leaving A" if you wish to go out the tunnel in the wall.

Now that she was down in the cavern, Rowan had the opportunity to explore it more thoroughly. But her attention was firmly fixed on the tiny island and the pile of junk that was haphazardly scattered over it. In fact, she couldn't quite tell if there was any earth underneath, or if the island was merely one huge pile of things. She picked her way over to it and began to look through it. Disappointingly, she saw nothing of real value at first. Until a muted gleam caught her eye. Drawing back a muddy piece of cloth, she revealed two vividly shining dragon orbs! What luck! She was sure that aunt Corwen would be pleased with this discovery. Since neither she or her aunt followed the path of the warrior, coming across dragon orbs without paying a hefty fee was uncommon. And while the money really was of no importance, Rowan felt a surge of pride that her risk had paid off in the end.

She tucked the orbs into her pocket and retrieved her boots. There was a tunnel in the middle of the wall that looked much more appealing than climbing all the way back up to the hole she had climbed out of.

Leaving A
As you leave the cave behind you and crawl through the dark winding tunnel the sharp rocks protruding from the walls scratch and gouge you. It gradually slopes upwards, back towards the surface. After a while, you reach another tunnel. Looking down you can see the tracks that you made earlier. Following them out, you squeeze out back onto the surface. The sun is now on the horizon.

Free at Last!
Please rp you characters thoughts and feelings as they travel along the path and leave the cavern behind. You may include their trip home if you so desire.

The sharp rocks going back up were even worse than the ones going down, and Rowan finally had to just give up on any hope of preserving her outfit. She would look like a downright ragamuffin once she got out of this tunnel. But the reward was worth the price. She had, after all, dozens of dresses. But these were her first dragon orbs - the first things she had collected all by herself. And there was pride with that knowledge. She was certain that somehow these orbs could contribute towards the cause of the Sodur women. And even if they couldn't, they would at least prove to her aunt Corwen that she was capable of more than the most menial of duties.

The sun was still shining as Rowan made her way back onto the beach, though it's light was dimming. Her adventure had taken her longer than she had realized. Retrieving the bag of shells from where she had left them outside of the cave entrance, Rowan began the walk home.

She understood the necessity of learning the fundamentals of what was to be her craft. Yet at the same time, Rowan longed to be trusted with the deeper knowledge and the family secrets. She did not want to wait until her apprenticeship was over to begin working on what she considered the important stuff. She was eager to dive into some real work and, perhaps, ease some of the aching loneliness she felt every time she thought of the family she had once had. If nothing else, working on the panacea would make her feel almost like her mother was there with her. And these orbs could be her start down that accelerated path.
