Welcome To The Daffodil Movement 2010-----------------------------❧
This is a cancer awareness movement originally brought to Gaia in support of Long Vo (aka VO, art director and admin here on Gaia) whose father died from cancer April 9th, 2006.
Four of the old incarnations of TDM:
[We Care] (TDM 2006) The Daffodil Movement 2007 The Daffodil Movement 2008 The Daffodil Movement 2009
The Daffodil Movement has been held every year since 2006. It runs through the entire month of April (except TDM 2008, which ran through the month of May) and it is the time when we strive for Gaiawide cancer awareness. Traditionally during the event, users equip a daffodil bouquet on their avi to show support. The yellow daffodil is a symbol of renewal and hope, chosen by the American Cancer Society as an icon for the fight against cancer.
One of the most unique things about TDM is that we very much emphasize diverse and intelligent awareness in order to make people see just how widespread and serious this disease is. We stress that awareness is more than just knowing, it's understanding. We do this with different cancer teams that compete during the event as they talk and learn more about the type they're representing.
This year we have a new, streamlined look for the main thread, so hopefully it will be easier to navigate. Feel free to post your suggestions and comments.
﹢﹢What You Can Do﹢﹢
► Equip a daffodil bouquet on your avi through the month of April. ► Add a daffodil or ribbon to your signature ► Submit an entry for the Yellow Wall ► Participate in TDM's events and contests ► Want to donate to our cause? You can do that by sending a labeled trade to the mule. You can give gold for the contests, team color items for people to wear, or daffodil bouquets for us to give away. (Please do NOT send loose daffodils; it is much more costly and less efficient to make hundreds of bouquets from scratch, than to just buy them off the marketplace or have them donated to us.) ► If you need a bouquet to wear, just send a trade to us and we'll give you one free of charge. :3 Be sure to label your trade or it will be canceled. ►If you are unclear about something, I suggest you READ the front page of this thread. There's a good chance it will tell you how to do things.
One great way you can help the Movement is by donating items in team colors. This will be a sort of thrifty borrow-out system. This has to go through the Team Captains. Either the Captain sees someone that they think needs/deserves help, or the person wants help and asks the Captain if they can borrow some items.
Basically, it goes like this: the Captain says "Hey Blaize/Moonie, so-and-so needs items to wear" and one of us will send a trade to that person with items of the right color. And our rule is, you can either keep these items or give them back at the end of the Movement so that we can help people in future years- it doesn't matter which. Either way, donations from those that want to help in some other way besides giving gold will be a big help.
﹢﹢Other Stuff﹢﹢
MoonDwarf is TDM's second-in-command. If Blaize is not available, you can come to her about any questions or problems, or if you need someone to log on to the mule. iCrickle is our advertising manager. Come to her if you have any ideas about promoting TDM, or if you know of someone doing something TDM-related in their own thread. Last year we had pixel shops releasing special limited-edition daffodil art, things like that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Daffodils" (1804)
I wander'd lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the Milky Way, They stretch'd in never-ending line Along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in sprightly dance. The waves beside them danced; but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee: A poet could not but be gay, In such a jocun'd company: I gazed -- and gazed -- but little thought What wealth the show to me had brought: For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils.
By William Wordsworth (1770-1850)

FAQ--------------------------------❧
----F requently asked questions from previous years of the Movement
Please read these before asking Blaize or crew
---------►Where do I send my entry for the Tektek contest? ---------------PM them to Blaizekit. Entries posted in the thread or entries sent before the contest is officially open will be ignored.
---------►Do individuals send in their Tektek entries, or is it one entry for every team? ---------------Individuals enter. The best from each team will win a prize. Sometimes there will also be runners-up, depending on the number of ---------------entries and the closeness of the judging.
---------►Can I be on more than one team? ---------------You are more than welcome to post whatever ribbons you want in your signature or around the site to show your support. ---------------However, when it comes to official teams, you have to pick just one. This is especially important for the spirit contest. You can only ---------------follow your team's events.
---------►How do I join a team? What do I have to do for my team? ---------------It's not all that scary. All you have to do is post in the HQ of the team you want, saying you want to join. Make sure the team ---------------Captain adds your name to the list, and voila! You have a team. Depending on what your team's Captain wants to do, there might ---------------be events or contests that your team is doing. None of these are required for membership. They're just for fun! The important ---------------thing is just to support your team with a whole heart. Put its ribbon in your signature. Dress up in your team colors. The team ---------------that's deemed the most spirited wins a real-life donation for that type of cancer, so shake those pom-poms!
---------►Do I have to be on a team to be a part of the Movement? ---------------No. You don't even have to post in the thread. The most important thing about the Movement is making the cause visible. All you ---------------really need to do to be a full-fledged participator is to wear the bouquet and point our way if anyone asks about it. (:
---------►I want to help the Movement. Where do I send my gold, items, and daffodils? ---------------Donations should be sent to TDM Event Mule. Donations of gold help us give better prizes in the contests, and yellow items give ---------------the mule something cool to wear. (Items are sold at the end of the Movement to go toward next year.) Please do not send us ---------------daffodils unless they are already made into a bouquet. It is too expensive and time-consuming for us to turn hundreds of daffodils ---------------into bouquets by ourselves. We'd rather use our gold pool for prizes, so please only donate bouquets. (:
---------►I wanna show my support by wearing a daffodil bouquet during the whole month of April, but can't make or buy one. What's ----------------this about free bouquets? ---------------You're in luck! Many generous Gaians have donated daffodil bouquets to us, so that we may pass them along to whoever needs ---------------one. To request a bouquet, just send a labeled trade to TDM Event Mule.
---------►Do I have to wear a *yellow* daffodil bouquet? ---------------No. You can wear whatever color you want.
---------►Why can't (insert name of cancer here) be a team? ---------------This is only the second year that the Movement has had teams as part of the event. Chances are the number of teams and which teams ---------------are chosen will change a little from year to year. I am always listening out for which teams have the most demand. (: There are a couple ---------------of teams that are relatively small, like Melanoma, that I will never toss out just because of personal preference.

RULES--------------------------------❧
----O ne of the reasons why the Movement is being held within the guild this year (aside from the obvious benefits of organization) is that here we will actually be able to enforce our rules.
►Don't spam. It'll just get deleted. ►Follow Gaia's ToS ►Do not quote any large blocks of text, such as any of the posts on the front page of the main thread or a team's thread. ►Please read the FAQs before asking a question. That way we can be sure that we have plenty of time to answer any unusual or specific questions, instead of answering the same common ones over and over. ►Contacting Blaize/crew: We are likely to be very busy around this time. Not only do we have to organize many things here at once, virtually all of TDM's staff is in college or high school. For us, April not only means TDM, it means term papers and exams. Questions and Yellow Wall entries will have priority over any art or banners you send, or affiliate/Turn TDM requests. Please be patient with us. ►Be supportive of one another! Try to get along. ►And most importantly, strive for positivity. I encourage you to share your stories and feelings concerning cancer, cancer awareness, and the like, but this will not be a pity-party. Many people may be going through cancer themselves or seeing someone they love dealing with it. We’re here to hope for the best. heart

CONTESTS--------------------------------❧
----T DM's global contests
---------►Spirit Contest - - - - -
This is TDM's most important contest and where teams really become a factor. throughout the event, whichever group has the most enthusiasm will win for their cause a real-life donation of at least 10 dollars. This will go up depending on how many people I know IRL I can rope into this thing, for I am poor, but the amount will be at least that much. If I can’t find a way to donate directly to the cause, I’ll submit a general donation to ACS. Of course, you are welcome to make donations of your own. blaugh So get out there and show your team spirit!! This will be done through the guild, where you can chat with your team, organize get-togethers, and post your art/avis/and photos.
The spirit contest is based on how organized and enthusiastic your team is. There are a lot of ways a team shows their spirit. They take the initiative to recruit more people, hold their own contests, and organize meetings in Towns and basically act as if they genuinely care about awareness of their type.
Due to the nature of this kind of contest, we want to make sure that the people doing these things aren't out for personal gain. Because of that, there is no Gold prize for this. The team deemed "most spirited" will receive a real-life donation for their type.
---------►Tek Tek Contest - - - - -
One of our most popular contests is back! Make a tektek in your team's colors.
The best from each team (and sometimes runners-up) will win.
The prize: At least 20k. It may be more depending on donations.
Dates: The tektek contest will open Teusday, April 20 and will be closed for entries on Thursday, April 29.
Where to send entries: PM them to Blaizekit. Entries posted in the thread or entries sent before the contest is officially open will be ignored.
---------►Guild Recruiting - - - - -
Invite your friends to join the guild!
Recruit people to the guild and have them put in their join request "referred by (your name)" whoever has the most wins.
Anyone can win. This contest is completely unrelated to teams. However, all Crew are ineligible, as they have the ability to accept join requests.
The prize: At least 20k, may be more
Dates: Ends on Thursday, April 29
---------►Nartian Raffle - - - - -
This raffle will be a part of the TDM Farewell Party that will be held at the end of the month. This is a formalwear event that will be held in Towns, with a door-prize raffle of sorts. This is a time-sensitive contest: it will begin and end the same day. While we are hanging out together, a thread will be set up on the main forum where people that want to participate can post their lucky number. A number will be randomly drawn at the end of the event and the winner will receive the most fantastically daffodilly item of them all, Nartian Rock!
The Prize: Nartian Rock
Dates: Saturday, May 1

OTHER ART--------------------------------❧
----A rt related to TDM as a whole. If you want to submit team art, go to that teams HQ.
drawing of TDM Event Mule
By Morsis Well...Cancer is~~~
Cancer is a terrible thing that makes people cry, Unbeatable really... You shouldn't even try
Because all Cancer can think, Is that it's got you beat! One, Two, Three, And down for the count!
But you will stand up tall, You will surprise us all, When out loud you sing... "Is that all you can bring?"
And Cancer will come like a terrible beast! Gnashing and thrashing with it's barbed wire teeth! It will pound and it will pounce, It will jab and it will stab, It will hit and spit, Come from left to right, danger and blight, no end in sight!
Yet when the dust clears...
You will stand up fearless, Surpass the limitless! Achieve the unthinkable!
And Cancer will cry When we lift you up high, As you proudly declare "I will not DIE!"
And when the battle is finally done... You can finally rest, knowing you won
By -Beautifully Beaten-
Grab it by the horns and keep the prize in sight You are never alone so don’t give up the fight We’re in this together so just keep your head up high Don’t think of the what ifs like, “if I might die” Take it all in small, slow steps and you’ll make them proud One day the worst will be over and we’ll sing your praises loud You’re my proud reviver of hope You’re a Cancer survivor.
