 Hello everyone! And welcome to the Prostate cancer support thread! :3
My name is Keynir, and I will be your host and captain during this event. ^^ I'm Dutch,
18 years old and in my first year of college, studying IT.
The reason I chose to captain this thread is because prostate cancer is a type of cancer
that I might very well get when I go into my 45's or fifties. And thus it is the type I refer
to the most.
This thread is made to feel like a home where you can cheer on the team, but can also
talk about possible relatives who have or have had prostate cancer. =]
And remember: We go blue, light blue. =D

 [So, what is prostate cancer?]
[x]Prostate cancer is, in short, a type of cancer that grows in a gland in the male's
[x]reproductive system. Older men (usually above fourty or fifty) have the most
[x]chance of getting it. It's a slow-growing type of cancer, and most men don't
[x]even know they have it until the age of 70. (Average diagnose age is 70)
[What causes it?]
[x]The specific cause is still unknown. What is known, is that there are several
[x]risk factors: Age, diet genetics, race, lifestyle and medication, of which age is
[x]the biggest factor.
[What are the symptoms?]
[x]When the cancer is found early, men usually won't feel any symptoms. But
[x]sometimes symptoms like these can be experienced:
[x][x] A need to urinate frequently, especially at night;
[x][x] Difficulty starting urination or holding back urine;
[x][x] Weak or interrupted flow of urine;
[x][x] Painful or burning urination;
[x][x] Blood in urine
[x][x] Frequent pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips, or upper thighs.
[How does it get diagnosed?]
[x]There is one test which can be used to fully confirm prostate cancer, which is
[x]a biopsy of the prostate. Tissue from the prostate gets examined with
[x]so-called tumor markers.
[Is it preventable?]
[x]Well, it is to some extent, though there is only so much one can do. There
[x]has been research and the World Cancer Research Fund came up with a
[x][report] about it.

 It's contest time! And an excuse for me to give out prizes. 
Just a few things: Everyone can enter only one time for each contest and all
contests end on the 28th of April. That should give me enough time to judge
the entries. ^^
Prizes will be given out on the 30th, the day that the TDM ends. *Sad face* D:

[x]It's time for some TekTekking you all!
[x]For the next sevenn days, you will al get to follow a special story, by TekTekking it!
[x]Every day there will be a new add to the story, and it is your job/task to
[x]embody the story by a TekTek. =D
[x]Prizes will be given out at the end of the Marathon, winners maybe some earlier, I don't know yet. ^^
[x]Extra: Stories aren't mandatory. ^^
[x]So, let's get it started in here, with the starrrt of the storrehhh! =D
[x]Day 1: It's time to celebrate! A new glorious life has chosen to join the world!
[x][x][x]A healthy baby boy is born.
[x][x][x]Family members rush to the hospital, and later the house,
[x][x][x]to congratulate and celebrate. Babeh partehh! =D
[x]Day 2:The small boy grows up, and gets to live life to the full. Everything seems to be
[x][x][x]going well, and the age is not hurting him too much. Eventually he reaches
[x][x][x]the age of sixty. A milestone.
[x][x][x]You can pick a phase in his life you find interesting (be creative? ;D) and
[x][x][x]make a TekTek about it. ^^
[x][x][x]Anywhere from sibling to 60. :3
[x]Day 3: [x][x][x]Horrible news.. D: After feeling unenergized for a while, and feeling uneasy while
[x][x][x]peeing, he went to the doctor. WHo told him that the man got prostate cancer,
[x][x][x]already quite far progressed. The man immediately gets submitted in the
[x][x][x]hospital, and is stelped with medicine and treatments.
[x][x][x]Goal is to TekTek this ill man. :3
[x]Day 4:There will be two endings to this story, sad or happy, which will it be?
[x][x][x](You can do both!)
[x][x][x]Ending 1: A lot of sniffing and sobbing could be heard on the graveyard on the
[x][x][x]day the man got buried. He fought a tough battle, but was not able to win. He's
[x][x][x]lived life to the full, and now be able to live further, painless, in the afterlife.
[x][x][x]Ending 2: A miracle! After a few surgeries, they were able to take out most of
[x][x][x]the tumors, and after some more radiation therapy, he was able to recover. He never
[x][x][x]returned to his previous physical level, but was able to give life a fitting ending
[x][x][x]on his own terms.
[TekTek Contest:]
[x]The most standard contest, but also a very fun one! ^^
[x]Your entry has to have the color light blue, of course, but light blue represents
[x]hope, so I like your entry to do something with that, too. ^^
[x]Little stories/explanations are luffed and cherished. =D

[Poetry:]
[x]I've always been a great fan of poetry. And although I am not able to write poetry myself,
[x]I love it and am curious as to see what other people might come up with. =D
[x]The poem, of course, has to relate to the subject of this thread.

[x]This is the contest with the least guidelines, but it's probably the hardest. The person
[x]who raises awareness in the most original way, will win this. It can either be IRL or on
[x]Gaia. And for both I need proof of course. =D
