Back in '04, I stumbled across Gaia in a search for dress up games in a drunken stupor, and the word "anime" in the description caught my attention.
For several years, I only ever came back when myspace and xanga refused to hold my attention.
Having always been something of a lurker (even before I knew there was a name for it),
my gold income was solely from voting in poles, then from jigsaw (and other minigames to a lesser extent).
I was frequently using Gaia by '07, and would constantly rage that nobody would ever be able to save up 24k for imp potions.
Due to this, I went on what would become one of several year-long haituses, and came back in late '08 to see that zOMG was going into open beta.
I played it once and absolutely hated it. I left again.
I came back infrequently (once every three or four months) for the next few years until the boy I was dating started telling me all about this
cool new site he had found, and about how awesome this game on it was (this was around early '10).
As soon as i saw it was Gaia, I couldn't help but roll my eyes. That is, until I saw he had not one, but two imp potions just sitting in his invo.
This is about when I really started listening to him gush about zOMG and how much gold could be made from it, so I decided to give it another shot.
This time, the game was so much easier! Not only did I know what was going on, I could kill things and leave the sewers!
I still wasn't very good at playing, and would run the instant something tried to attack me, but after a few weeks I had made enough for my own imp potion.
I was on top of the world. I felt like I had become one of the Gaia elite. After seeing all the new items that had come out, I knew I was stuck here. I had to have more.
Around this time, my boyfriend and I broke up. After this, Gaia and zOMG became the main focus of my attention.
I kept playing zOMG for a few months, soloing everything in my way until I made it to Bass'ken Lake before reluctantly joining crews to progress.
After a while, it because autonomous. Join a crew, grab the rings I was told to, defeat Papa Saw, find a new crew.
It went on like this for months until my first time in Otami. Some kind soul escorted my CL 7.0 butt everywhere my quests told me to go.
I didn't understand it. He had all CL 10.0 rings, so they weren't getting anything out of this. Eventually, he convinced me to go back and try SS.
Much to my disbelief, these crews were nice and genuinely helpful like my Otami friend was. I actually started to look forward to playing!
I loaded myself up with CL 18.9 rings and, for a month I became the best traveling medic I could be for not having a sweetheart ring.
Unfortunately, my medic days were cut short as I began another year-long hiatus for school. Against all odds, my school crush was on Gaia, too!
After finally regaining unfettered internet access again (damn you, NetNanny!), I flocked back to zOMG, only to find all my friends still in Gold Beach.
We joked, laughed, and smebbed just like the good ol' days until one daring person dragged me back to Bill's Ranch.
"What the hell are we doing here? There's almost nothing to do other than defib DMP crews! What do you mean 'DMS'? It's 'DMP'..."
I was astounded! Gaia added a new zone to zOMG and nobody had told me? I was thrilled that I could get my rings over CL 10.0 again.
Once again, I saw all the new items. After swooning over the new arm and leg mods that were pouring into the market, I was stuck here again.
This time, however, was different. I wasn't stuck just for the pretty pixels, I was stuck because of all the wonderful friends I had made.
Okay, mini novel over sweatdrop
