Gaia has little time-warps every few months, they generally go away after a week or so.

The OP forgets something rather evident : people cyber as an alternative to other means of sexual stimulation for masturbation, IE pornography. When one is used to watch pornography to masturbate (boys, typically), but one eventually gets bored of the material or runs out of one's favourite material, one can cyber with somebody else as an alternative.

It does not imply "desperation" in the least.
