Obviously he was meant to give his magic to Hiro. It probably wasn't meant to be his magic in the first place. He also says that he should not feel obligated to feel that Shinji should be the most important person to him because of it, even if Shinji is a little possessive. *shrugs*

I...get the feeling that Shinji is going to be a little despondent for a while after that ordeal.
