I’ve been working hard with schoolwork and all, so I haven’t been keeping up with my journals. It’s been quite a while since the camping trip and my time in the pit with Eric. I hadn’t said much of anything to him all week. We would just look at each other and smile, say “hi” and go about our business. That wasn’t getting me anywhere, so I looked for an opportunity to start up a real conversation with him.

I saw him standing in the hall by himself, so I fixed my hair and went over. No sooner had I opened my mouth, than two loud-mouth boys rushed in and drew his attention away from me. Grrr… Then, at meditation class I took a spot right next to Eric. But, it’s awfully hard to have a conversation with someone who’s meditating, especially if you are supposed to be meditating as well. And of course, the Sensei expects a certain amount of silence.

Finally, in Biometrics class, I got another chance. I noticed while waiting for class to begin, that Eric was working out some of his E.F.M. homework. He too has Mr. Horitt for that, but at a different time than me. So, I asked him how he was getting along with the class. Other than having to deal with Mr. Horitt and his apparent hatred of all lower classmen, Eric said he was doing pretty well with the work. That’s more than I can say for myself. My grades in E.F.M. aren’t so hot, which is what gave me my next idea. I asked Eric if he’d mind tutoring me a little. He was a little reluctant at first, saying he really didn’t think he was good enough at it, so I started to let him off the hook. Then, surprisingly, he suggested that we could still study together, since there was another quiz coming up next week. Ka-CHING! xd
