This is the Play Thread for my OA campaign. We are still accepting players, so get those characters submitted! Character creation questions (or any other questions about the campaign) can go in the OA Campaign: OOC Thread.---------------------------------------------------------- Campaign Info: (work in progress)The kingdoms of Kara-Tur now face a threat before unknown in these lands which makes the Horde to the West seem a small problem. The nearby Nezumi lands are being destroyed by an unknown force. Strange beasts and dangerous, evil creatures are being discovered every day on the borders of the great land. As the shadow spreads across the land, the Clans of the Empire are preparing to take action in the Emporer's name.I am going to use a modified version of the eastern FR lands of Kara-Tur, almost like a half-Rokugan. I am going to use Taint, the Shadowlands, and the Shadowlands subtypes. I will also use the clans, so if you want to make a Rokugani type character then go ahead. Basically I am writing up a little background on the starting area and how you guys came to be working together with a samurai. For anyone who doesn't know what a samurai's job in ancient Japan was, see Judge Dredd! "I am the Lew!" Here are some good links for those of you without your own books, or looking for some more D&D information: The Hypertext d20 SRD SystemReferenceDocs.org Crystal KeepCharacter Creation Notes:We will be starting with 1st level characters, preferably from the OA sourcebook. If you need any advice or links to where you can get info on Oriental Adventures specific character creation just contact me. As we will be playing in my own custom OA campaign, you can pick any of the races or classes listed in the OA sourcebook. Humans can also pick a clan from the book if they choose to, but they are not required. If you REALLY want to play a non-OA race/class then contact me, we will need to work out a background to get the character to the OA world. If you need the Oriental Adventures book, you can download the PDF here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TUD0B5SFMy preferred way to create character stats is by rolling 4d6 and dropping the low die. I also allow you to re-roll 1's and 2's. I like to use the 3EProfiler http://www.sylnae.net/3eprofiler for character sheets, but I'm not going to force you to, so submit characters in any format you want. A little character background and a description of what people will see when they look at your character would be great too. I often work good character backgrounds into my campaign's story and the description is helpful for the other players as well as my own purposes. ---------------------------------------------------------- Action Index:Old action is archived at the end of this post1 - Opening2 - Village of Caotang3 - Goikengu demon4 - Eojin's body5 - Journal of Eojin6 - Monastery of White Petals7 - Outside the Temple8 - Main Ritual Hall9 - The Puppet Monks fall---------------------------------------------------------- Characters:1. Aodakemaru - NG Male Spirit Folk (Bamboo) Wu-jen - played by MostlyfillerTall and of a moderate build, his hair is kept kut a bit shorter than fingerlength and is left upon his head unruly and unkempt. The color of both his hair and eyes are ebon, but it at times of dawn or dusk or any other time of waning light in arboreal areas a faint, almost unnoticable green tinge can be seen in his locks or edges of his irses, respectively. His skin is a color of light umber and his clothing clothing is old, tattered and plain made of simple green-dyed rough cotton fabric and tied at his waist is a hempen rope in place of a belt. His feet are bare, and his soles have grown callous from decades without shoes. Ususally, he keeps a stick of incence held between his teeth in the corner of his mouth, and is accomapnied constantly by a small plume of sweet-smelling smoke from the burning end of the insence stick.Current Status: Traveling between the Teshida and Kikumura Provinces.2. Akahito is at least slightly taller than the average Asian man, nearing six feet. The man has his hair pulled back, in a sort of ponytail. It is a typical haircut for a Samurai. He keeps himself in pristine condition, showing his person with pride. His eyes seem to be a slightly lighter brown than most Asians, however, and it is an inherited trait. Typically, he presents himself in his armor, covering his monk clothing; his armor is seen shining, unless he has recently been in battle.Current Status: Traveling between the Teshida and Kikumura Provinces.3. Blood On White Petals Credit where credit is due, this is based on an AEG module by Ree Soesbee
Action Summary: This is the Opening of the Adventure, so there has been no action previous to this. This is a preview of the format I use for normal play action posts. Combat action posts will follow a very similar format, with additional posts for NPC and monster attack and damage rolls, which will be summarized here for you.
There is a secret to every message, and a hidden truth in every riddle... Current situation: Traveling along the roads outside the peaceful province of Teshida, a humble ashigaru youth runs towards you, kneeling in the muck at your feet.
"Please," he says, weeping. "Please."
He holds up a scroll, sealed with the chop of the village of Caotang. On the outside, written in poor calligraphy, is the word 'samurai'. Within there is a message. In sloped kanji, tilted and barely legible. The message reads "Please, We have killed the Village Magistrate, so sorry. Town of Caotang no longer can work. Awaiting sentence of death."
Caotang is a wealthy village. Its production of silk worms is reknowned throughout all of Kikumura Province, and without the yearly tithe from the town, many master silk-makers will have no goods for sale when the winter comes. The entire province will starve.
"I will take you to Caotang," the ashigaru youth says brokenly. "And there you must administer the the Emperor's justice... and destroy us all."
I will put my comments, instructions or additional information in dark red to seperate it from the text of the adventure. Mainly this will be hints to help out new players. More experienced players probably won't learn much from these additions.
This is the opening of the campaign, and now it's your turn to let me know what your character would want to do in this situation. I could say you all agree to go with the ashigaru.. but that's not my style. Some action posts may be longer than this one, some shorter, but I will always stop at the point where your character needs to make a decision. As soon as I have the players' actions I will go on to the next situation post.

Desc looks around at the group that he had not been able to get rid of, since they were traveling to the same place at the same pace as he was. He then steps in front of the small boy. He snatches the note awat from the boy harshly and takes a look at it. "I ain't no samurai," he says gruffly before tossing the note to the samurai standing next to him. "Ya say that ya need 'elp with sumtin'? Why the hell should I 'elp ya? Waz in it fer me?"

Desc glances back at the naga who just crawled up. "Yer still a creepy one. The hell are ya doin' travelin' this way?" He turns his head quickly back toward the child, earrings jingling as he turns, and continues to stare at him, waiting for an answer.

Though previously, he'd been travelling to the road to...whever it would take him, he was moved to pause at the scene before him. He stood before the kneeling youth, glancing to the noble warrior who he assumed the youth was speaking too. He remained on the wayside, with his arms folded as he remained amonst the muck and dirt of the road heedless to the fact that he wore no shoes. The burning stick of insence between his lips hung low as he frowned in light of the situation.
He looked to the samurai and bowed at his waist before carefully selecting his words, as he felt any from his postion should when adressing one of higher station. "Pardon my ignorance but...what is going on here?"
Aodakemaru's attention was attracted by the sound of scales brushing against the earth. He let out a mild note of surpise at the actions of the brash Nezumi. He had to admit though, he was growing more and more interested in what this was about...

"Chaos has been disrupting the entire village.. death of the Magistrate... Not an ideal situation.." Akahito spoke clearly, and had only been listening to the weeping of the ashigaru. He stood, clearly significant from the others in the group of four by his armor. Feeling the urge to help the young man, he politely asks for the note, though could see it just fine from where he was standing.
"Samoree..?" Akahito couldn't tell what the message meant, even though he studied kanji at least a few years of his life. "Oh.. samurai." He simply guessed after looking at the sloppy character. "Caotang, you say?" Yes, he knew of this town; it was somewhere... which way was he facing? "Destroy you all? I do not think so. We will compromise, ashigaru."

Saliv straightens up. And looks at every one with his bright green reptilian eyes.
" Oh my look at all the people here!"
Moves gracefully around the young boy on the ground.
" Why would we kill so many people, what purpose. Why so many lives for just a Magistrate?"

"I'll come along too, I'd like to see what this is all about." He looked down to the Ashigaru before he noticed the naga watching him and everyone else present, he regarded him with a polite nod and a mild smile as he speaks to the messenger.
"Please, lead the way."

Action Summary: The various members of this new rag-tag band have decided (for thier own reasons) to investigate the ashigaru's story, and follow him to the villiage of Caotang. On the way they discover that a woman is also following them down the road, apparently she had overheard, and has also decided to investigate this strange story. That's our new player, Miharu.
Current situation: As you approach the village of Caotang, the rolling hills and manicured strands of juniper trees are comforting. The area is beautiful, an elegant locale for such a wealthy town. Still... these fields and forests should be worked, and not a single silk farmer strolls among the pods that hang from the treetops. The area is quiet, empty.
As you near the village itself, the undeniable stench of rotting flesh hangs in the air. A villager ahead in the road runs back toward the town, screaming to the others that a samurai approaches. At the front gates of this quaint little town, all of the village's peasants are lying on the ground, their faces flat against the ground in homage and fear.
Only one kneels, his face lowered but not pressed to the ground. In his hands, he holds a set of swords that indicate the office of magistrate - likely the swords of the samurai governor of this town. He holds them out in respect, his eyes lowered. "Honorable samurai," the old man begins. "We, the village of Caotang, have murdered out magistrate. We have taken up arms against a samurai. We know there can be no forgiveness. We offer you our lives, noble warriors, in penance for our crime."
Thought it appears to be the entire population of the village, no children are present. None peer around the corners or out the windows of the vacant huts. In fact, there seem to be no children at all in the entire village.

DeathGod02 Looks around in interest. " Where are your children?"
At this question some of the men peer up slightly, and you can see the shock in their faces to be addressed by such a strange creature in their own lands. There is a great weeping among the women, and some of the men tear at thier hair and cry out in anguish. Some of the men point down the east road, but noone offers an answer.
You can all make Spot checks.

Adokemaru paced uncomfortably in a small tight ircle, eyes darting from the trees and back to the villagers. He was obviously agitated, by the acrid stench of decaying flesh, and by how much he felt was out of place.
He muttered to himself"Quet, quiet, far too quiet..."

Desc slowly plays with his naginata while he idlely gazes around the village, boredom obviously getting to him. "Damn samurai..." he mumbles to himself as he eyes the swords that the villager is holding. "Lez jus' kill 'em an' get outta here," he idlely states while continuously playing with his weapon.
