Mostlyfiller Knowledge: Spirits Roll 16+6=22 This kind of residue and deformation are characteristic of the Shadowlands Taint manifesting itself due to black magic. Your guess would be that the demon must have been summoned here.

Saliv bends down next to the alter, then begins to flick it with his tounge to see how many types of blood he can detest. He's eyes seem wild.
He slowly turns his gaze to you.

What were they doing? The samurai was merely following them, noticing the Koi scales. He had no idea of how to summon a Goikengu. He looked around, not noticing anything that anyone else hadn't noticed. "... What if there's more than one demon?" The samurai asked, looking around but finding nothing.

Action Summary:
Following the eastern road out of Caotang, you investigated the small ritual area in the front courtyard of a temple outside of town. Discovering some small clues.
Current situation:
The main opening to the temple lies directly ahead - a set of huge, carved oak doors that are currently closed.
You can continue to investigate the outside of the temple, or head in.

As you get closer you can see that there is a burned-out torch stuck in the door, through the small crack left open you see nothing. There is no noise within.
