Aerexa

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Nicknames: Rex
Race: Vandrea
Gender: Female
Mother: Stryxx (NPC)
Physical Description: As short as an Aishan can possibly be with a muscular build

3 Base Traits: Arrogant, Impulsive, Sincere
Personality: Rex is a braggart. The smallest of compliments goes straight to her head and the slightest bit of opposition is just met with a wall of inflated ego. If you tell her she's the fastest runner you've ever seen she'll just scoff and say she was simply jogging. Tell her she can't jump higher than a toddler, though, and she'll say she totally could if she was actually trying! While some things come naturally to her others she has to work hard at so to Rex any and all compliments are completely justified. She thrives on them, in fact; the more validation she can get for her hard work the more her own self-esteem seems to rely on it.

Just because she's arrogant doesn't necessarily mean that Aerexa tries to be a jerk. If anything she just likes the attention it brings! She's open, honest to an almost painful fault, and if she likes you she'll shower you with the weirdest of treats. Mention that you like the color pink once and until your dying day she'll drop off bits of pink ribbon, a wad of fuzz, a half dead flower, etc. on your door. Lying is both beyond her ability to comprehend and all thought processes. What's the point? Eventually everything is going to catch up to you anyway so just get mad, say you're sorry and move on!

That being said Rex is not a critical thinker. If someone so much as mentions jumping off a cliff she's halfway there, regardless of whether there's a lake below to catch her fall or if said lake happens to have rocks! She's here for a good time, not a long one, and the sheer fact that her thrill seeking mother has managed to live this long has only added to that. In her eyes if she can do it then so can Rex regardless of any stupid warnings tossed her way. One day Azehra is going to take us all anyway, so why not have fun before then?

History

Aerexa is the only daughter of a larger than life huntress. Her mother, Stryxx, left her mark on Chibale by becoming a legend in her own right. Her kills were legendary in both their size and the skill required to take them down, but she soon grew bored of Jauhar's hunting grounds. For years Strixx roamed Tendaji taking down the biggest and baddest of creatures with all her might, boasting her name in any tavern that would have her, and relishing in the attention it brought her. Eventually, she returned to Chibale just in time to catch up with those going to a small island just off the coast of Belrea.

So many were nervous about the trip itself, about the implications and what could happen, but Stryxx? She just laughed it off! The seas were turbulent, the beasties under the waves put up valiant fights and even the untamed land of Chiume was something of a wonder for the huntress. The unknown called her like nothing else! Adventure at every turn, a brand new world to call her own, and an entire continent of earthlings just waiting to bask in her glory! Of course, that would all come after Azehra was strong in her own right and until then Stryxx was content just guarding her.

Then, she started to bloom and the Vandrea were born. Little girls started popping up everywhere! Years had passed after the initial blooms, and in the time between Stryxx had started her adventures once more! But her mind kept returning to Azehra, almost like the goddess was bringing her back so she made up her mind. If Azehra wanted her to be a mother then she was going to be the best mother! Her daughter would be the fastest, the strongest, the most legendary Vandrea of them all!

And so, Aerexa was bloomed. What started out as a little pumpkin of a girl grew to be little more than that. As far as Aishans were concerned she was short; a petite, scrawny kid with a mouth as loud as her mothers. Still, Stryxx wasn't concerned. So her kid was puny, she could work with that! She taught Aerexa to be bold, to not let others walk over her and how to properly carry a weapon that could balance out her size. Aerexa thrived, although, perhaps a little TOO well. She grew arrogant, conceited, and as many of the elders said, into a bully. Still, the pair were happy and she even started to bulk up, despite the fact that she was still petite. A true 'tiny but mighty' type of gal.

Aerexa watched her mother strike a flint and bring a roaring fire to life. The chill of Autumn had settled into the land like a thick blanket, coating their breaths with its frosty touch and making her wonder why it was exactly that they were out on a hunt today of all days. The past week had been luxuriously warm to the point of fantasy which would have made for wonderful hunting, but Stryxx was set. She’d chosen today of all days because she was certain that their prey would be as close as it ever would be to camp, and Aerexa trusted her mother.

Stryxx wasn’t a grand beauty. She had an odd look with harsh, jagged edges and a muscular frame that many earthlings would shy away from. In markings they were identical, in dreads they were clearly a duo, but size? Ah, they couldn’t be more diverse.

Aerexa was small by Aishan standards; a fact that had been blatantly obvious from blooming. Still, it never stopped Stryxx from pressing her daughter as hard as she could and teaching her the ways of an accomplished trophy hunter. First and foremost, they were huntresses for Azehra. Although Aerexa had yet to finish her training she was already accomplished with many of the weapons that were available to girls her age and so many more that Stryxx had laid at her feet. She loved the challenge and thrilled on the attention it brought her within the tribe. As long as she had a blade in her hand she was fearless instead of puny, with a bow she was a sharp shooter and not disposable, and with her fists…well, she was as strong as a storm! How could anyone turn down accolades like that?

Today wasn’t like normal training, however. Aerexa could feel a sort of tension in her mother that was rarely present. She lived on the edge, same as her daughter, and generally said what she wanted without fear of holding back. Whenever she looked to Aerexa this evening, however…there was a hesitancy.

“Is there something on my face?” Aerexa broached with a cocked brow. She drug a thick, woolen blanket over her shoulders and turned to fully face her mother. Stryxx jabbed the fire with a stick, ignoring the question at first until Aerexa cleared her throat. “Mother.”

“…I was just thinking about the day I brought you home. It was cold on that day too.” Her voice was the smallest Aerexa had ever heard it and so very far away. When the older Aishan sat back with her daughter she made sure to get close, moving to wrap her arm around her when Aerexa lifted the blanket. “You were so little that I thought surely Azehra let you go too soon. I was worried you would get sick so I bundled you in four blankets and never let you out of my arms all winter.”

Aerexa couldn’t help the little laugh that slipped out. The thought of her strong, wild fury of a mother being that afraid of an infant was as adorable as it was concerning. She’d never really thought about how motherhood could change a person, but now it was starting to creep in.

“I’ve always been proud of you; you know that, right?”

“You tell me all the time.” Aerexa bumped against Stryxx. “Same as you telling me to be proud of myself. I’m Stryxx’s daughter; I’m supposed to be the best.”

“You’re the best because you’re Aerexa not just my daughter. There were days when I wondered If you would ever grow and you did, in your own time, and now you’re old enough to take the blades in your own right. As much as I miss having a toddler to pack around I’m much happier like this.” She snuggled close to her daughter and for a moment the two furies shared a moment of intimacy. They were happy like that; cozy and content. Aerexa had never lacked for love from her mother and had always known that the next hunt might be her last so she’d always made sure to give it back tenfold.

“Is that why you brought me out here? Really? To get all sappy this far away from anyone who could see you?”

Stryxx laughed. “You got me. You’re getting older and I’m becoming an old woman who sits around and tells stories.”

“Stop it.” Aerexa reaching over to pinch her and Stryxx just chortled. Hearing her mother’s off beat laugh brought a warmer smile to her face.

It wasn’t often that life afforded the two of them the kindness of a slow night. The pair were able to talk about Aerexa’s progress without the looming weight of what needed to be done bogging them down. Stryxx could simply listen while Aerexa went off about becoming one of the greatest warriors the world had ever known! She would be grown, powerful and larger in her fables than anyone would ever believe. It was pleasant which was…something she hadn’t had a lot of growing up.

As much as Stryxx cared for her daughter her own goals and aspirations had always gotten in the way of tender moments. They had things to do, Aerexa had always known that, but this…this was nice. A deeply needed moment of respite for the small family. Tomorrow things would change with the hunt, but for tonight she was content staying close to her mother with dreams of glory in her heart.

When her mother came in through the entryway to their home she’d been expecting the hide of some creature she’d slain or maybe it’s skull. What she hadn’t expected was for Stryxx to wear a look of abject fury.

“…Dare I ask?” Aerexa lowered the cup of water she’d been drinking from as the older Aishan came striding up to the table.

“Is it true? Have you been sneaking off into the city to cavort with earthlings?”

“What does cavort mean?” She knew the instant she asked the question that it was the wrong one. Stryxx’s entire demeanor pulled taut like a bow string and Aerexa found herself bristling in response. She’d never been one to hide from her mother; whenever the older woman got angry she had a tendency to get angry right back at her.

Stryxx slammed her hand down on the table. “Did you go on a date with an earthling?”

“Well, yeah, weeks ago.” Who didn’t know that? “It was a dare and it wasn’t so bad-“

“And you went back for another?”

“What? No. I went back to talk to him, but it wasn’t another date.” She’d wanted to learn more about the hybrid and the kinds of things he did. Still, something about the way she was so relaxed with it while her mother grew angrier told her that line of thought wasn’t the right one. “Is that…not right?”
Stryxx took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. “Aerexa, let me be clear. Earthlings can be helpful and you can be mutually beneficial on a hunt. That’s it. You should never date one and if I hear that you’ve gone off to be alone with this one again I’ll stop it myself.”

“What is your deal?! I don’t know what you’ve heard that’s got you so worked up, but I’m not dating anyone. Even if I was it would be my choice and not yours.” To punctuate her frustrations Aerexa reached out to jab Stryxx’s chest with her index finger.

Stryxx didn’t let her pull away. Instead, she snatched her daughter’s wrist with lightning quick reflexes and pulled her close. “If it were an Aishan then I wouldn’t care. Elarian, Vandrea, Elidae…doesn’t matter. I will not have the strength of our bloodline dip because of one bad choice.” When she saw that her daughter wasn’t backing down, Stryxx released her hold and took a step back. “I don’t hate them, Aerexa, and I don’t hate hybrids. You just need to understand now that we’re different than everyone else. Our family is strong. We’re fast, we’re quick witted, we don’t fear death; how many earthlings do you think could compare? Do you really want to risk that by spending so much time in earthling cities growing soft?”

“So that’s it then? All I have to do is say I won’t go to Azehra with an earthling and I can keep doing what the hell I was going to do to begin with?” Aerexa crossed her arms over her chest with a snort. “Fine; can’t mess up a bloodline if I don’t continue it. I’ll make a vow right here and now never to have a daughter.”

“That’s not what I meant and you know it!”

“I dunno, sounds clear to me. If I decide to fall in love with an Aishan then maybe I’ll have a daughter and if I don’t I guess I’ll adopt a duruf or look into a few birds instead. “ Rolling her eyes, Aerexa walked away from Stryxx toward her bedroom. The whole thing was as ridiculous as it was baseless. What kind of rumors were spreading about her, anyway? They’d dared her into going on a date, she had, and now they had the gall to gossip about her? Well, she’d have to put a stop to that!

Stage 2 Solo 1

When Aerexa had decided to venture from Azehra’s side to join Lioe and his sister on their voyage she hadn’t expected to see another Aishan. It was rare for any of their kind to stray that far from their homelands, much more so on a cramped earthling ship, but when Aerexa had walked out of her room toward the deck there was no mistaking what she saw. Skin as dark as any Elarian’s, but without the warmer hues of their locs. Black, twisted dreads fell down her back like an earthling’s curls and when she turned to look at Aerexa her eyes were as dark as any Alkidike’s. For a moment all Aerexa could do was stare. She’d seen Alkidike’s before; there were enough of the older generations on the island to be familiar, but this….

Apparently her staring wasn’t welcome, though, because after just a few moment the other Aishan started taking the steps two by two just to get away. Aerexa called after her, but when the girl showed no signs of stopping the Vandrea murmured a curse before taking off after her. The chase was far from a pleasant one for either of them. None of the passages on the ship were made for creatures of their size so squeezing through the narrow halllways meant a bevy of bruised elbows, knees knocking into hardened wood, and heads knocking into beams. More than once a sailor had to yell at them to slow them, which neither of them did. Every time Aerexa came so much as an arm’s length away the other would put on a burst of speed before finally popping out onto the top deck.

“Wait!” Aerexa took her shot the moment the other started to hesitate. Instead of running she’d stopped to catch her breath, no doubt to also look for an escape, and that’s when Aerexa snatched her wrist-

-Only to have the other Aishan knee her straight in the gut. Aerexa doubled over with a choked exhale and when her head was tilted forward the Aishan slammed that same knee into her face before letting Aerexa’s body fall against the deck.

“What do you want from me?! Just leave me alone!” The woman screamed before taking off once more.

For a moment it was all Aerexa could do just to breathe. Her nose was broken, that much was easy to tell through the pain and the bleeding, but she also suspected a concussion was working it’s way through her. “What…the hell….?” She murmured, only moving so she wouldn’t be laying against her nose, but a pair of hands helped her to rise all the way up.

A few of the deck hands had stepped in to help and each look more wary than the last. She wanted to be irritated with them for it, really she did, but how could she? Especially when they didn’t know what had happened or who instigated it. “You should get down to the healer…and have a talk with Mr. Walkins.”

“Whose Mr. Walkins?” Her voice was stubbed up due to her nose and Aerexa tried not to glare with one of the deckhands snickered.

“He’s the first mate. He’ll want an…account, of the ruckus today.”

Ah, right. The reason two Aishans were causing a scene on his ship. They’d only been out to sea for a day and she’d already caused problems. What if that meant she would be spending the rest of their trip in a cell? Would it even be big enough for her?

“…Alright, point the way.”

“No need; I’ll escort you.” They don’t want me to escape. And go where, exactly? Overboard? With a scoff, Aerexa picked herself up, leaned forward so she wouldn’t get any blood down where it shouldn’t be, and started toward the underbelly of the ship.

Now that she was going back through the same hallways – albeit at a much slower pace – Aerexa was able to take in some of the woodwork. When she’d been told they were crossing the sea to Matori she’d thought it odd, since airships docked in Sauti, but then she’d seen it was an actual ship ship which was…Well, what earthling would voluntarily choose this? It rocked from side to side at all hours of the night, lurched horribly during storms and they were all being supported by wood of all things. Her mother may have made the journey to Chiume aboard one but that didn’t make it safe.
“Here. You’re dripping.”

Aerexa blinked and looked over toward the earthling, who held out a wad of cloth for her nose. He was right about the blood; she hadn’t noticed just how much was dripping down her top or onto the floor itself. That little….whatever she was really knew what she was doing!

“T’anks.” She mumbled and quickly pressed it against her nose. There was a moment where Aerexa recoiled from the pain but pressed it back anyway. “Ib Mipper Wal’tin’s goin’ pu’ me in ‘da cell?”

“Guess that all depends on what kind of story you tell him. She might have attacked you, but we all know you were the one chasing her so –“ The deckhand shrugged. When they were close enough to the healer’s quarters he motioned toward the door, opened it and reached for a vial atop the nearby table. “Alright then, sit down.”

“Bu’ da’ healer-“

I’m the healer. It was my office you barreled past earlier so I’m just as invested in this as Mr. Walkin’s will be. Now, sit.”

And Aerexa did just that.

She found a seat near what she assumed to be his desk and made herself as comfortable as she could. The chair itself was on the smaller side, clearly made for earthling proportions, so she had to twist around a few times to get comfortable. Evidently he didn’t care for the amount of squeaking it caused because more than once the healer would cast her a glowering look before finally making his way closer.

“Wa’s jur nab?”

Despite the man’s gruff exterior, he took her head gently into his hands and took the cloth away. For the most part the bleeding had stopped, with only a little trickle of blood streaming out now, but with a practiced touch he dabbed it away. “My name’s Bird. Normally I charge for this sort of thing, by the way-“ And before she could ask what he was going to charge her for a sharp pain radiated through her nose.

“What did you do?!”

“Fixed your nose. I said I was a healer; didn’t say it was a painless one.”

“I thought you were gonna use magic?!”

“I did. Like I said, didn’t tell you it was gonna be painless though.” Even now his fingers had a certain glow to them and when he stepped back she could see that same light radiating from his core. If Aerexa hadn’t been so focused on the pinching in her face she might have asked more about it, but as it stood she really didn’t care. She let out a few curse words, clapped a hand over her face, and groaned.

“So…you’re not gonna charge me?”

“Not until Walkins figures out what he wants to do with you. If you’re innocent then consider it a freebie. If you’re guilty…well, I’ll come find you in the cells.” When he grinned she snarled up at him. If the angered Aishan intimidated him he didn’t show it.

“So what’re you gonna do, just keep me here until he shows up?”

“Pretty much. If you run you’ll definitely be guilty of something so it’s just gonna be better for everyone if you stay put.” He walked away to start cleaning up, namely to just wash the blood off his hands, and gave Aerexa a moment to really study the man. She’d assumed he was a sort of earthling at first because of his size, but now that she really got to look at him Aerexa wasn’t so sure. The man’s skin was blue – blue, as she’d learned, could be common on some earthlings – but it was darker. He also had a horn on his forehead and his eyes were a deep, vibrant green.

“Where are your people from? In Tendaji?”

He only chuckled. “My people aren’t from Tendaji.”

“Yael, then.”

“Not from Yael either.”

Well, you aren’t Belrean.”

“Oh no, you got me,” He placed the back of his hand against his forehead and sighed. “I’ve been caught! And yet…you still haven’t figured it out.” Bird smirked. “And no, I’m not gonna tell ya. If you’re clean, sure, but not until then.” The horned man walked towards the door and pulled a key from his pocket. “Don’t go around trying to break the lock, either. I’m gonna go get Walkins and we’ll be back.”

Getting locked into the space wasn’t exactly what she wanted, but…well, at least she wasn’t in shackles. And goddess above, the questions just kept stacking! Who was that woman?! What was Bird?! Gah!

Stage 2 Solo 2

By the time Walkins made his appearance Aerexa’s nerves had settled in. The Vandrea normally didn’t give herself long enough to get nervous in the first place, but now that she’d been locked in time was all she had. She’d tugged at a loose strand on her top long enough for it to unravel, and then went about snooping through the desk. There wasn’t much; just a few quills, some parchment that smelled like sea brine and an oddly shaped dagger-

The moment she heard the locked clicking over Aerexa shuffled back to her seat and sat down. Her butt had no more than touched the wood when Bird entered, followed by what she could only have assumed to be Mr. Walkins himself. She wasn’t sure what she expected. A Belrean for sure, maybe even a half breed, but this sort of hybrid…Well, Aerexa was stunned.

The man was clearly Aishan. Both his stature and the shape of his eyes told as much. His skin was as bright as any natural born Lightning, but those amethyst eyes, as bright as any jewel, were devoid of pupils, same as hers. He lacked the tell tale antennae that marked their kind, but instead of green crystals his skin bore a variety of markings, in what looked like some sort of floral pattern around his biceps. All in all Mr. Walkins would have been quite the looker if he were female, but as it were he was just…odd.

“I’ve got it from here, Bird.”

“Just don’t go making a mess.”

A nod was exchanged between the two before the smaller of the men made his way out and shut the door behind him. Once he had, Walkins approached Aerexa and took the only other seat in the room. The size of it must have been just as awkward for him as it was to her, if his shifting about was anything to go off, but he carried himself better. Almost as if he’d been doing this for decades. As he settled, Walkins turned his eyes toward her and surveyed the Aishan before him.

“It’s not everyday we have a sister on our ship.” He started before sighing and leaning back in his seat, “You don’t look to be the world traveling type, but here we are. So, why are you on this ship? And what does it have to do with the woman you were chasing?”

“I’m not here because of her.” Her tone was indignant, but if Aerexa cared she didn’t show it. “I’m here for my friend. I just wanted to talk to her. I’ve never seen an Aishan like that before and I wanted to know more about her.”

After a momentary pause, Walkins asked, “And did you once think about whether or not she wanted to talk to you?”

“I…mmm.” Honestly? No. She hadn’t. Aerexa pursed her lips and looked down at the hands in her lap. “No, I didn’t. I just thought that maybe if we started talking she might open up a little bit, but then she ran. I know I shouldn’t have chased her; I messed up.”

“And I think she paid you back already for scaring her.” He motioned to her bruised and swollen nose, then to the bruises on her ribs. “But I need to make sure this isn’t going to happen again. It’s a small ship, not a lot of space for passengers to go about unseen and you’ll likely run into her again. I need to know that I can safely let you walk about without harassing others or I’ll be forced to lock you up.”

And he would too. Everything in his posture told her as much. Aerexa adjusted herself in the chair before nodding. “I won’t bother her again. I’m not gonna lie and say I wouldn’t like to talk to her, at least once, but I won’t chase her anymore. I just…I wonder which goddess she came from?”

“Not my business to know, not yours to ask. She paid her way same as you so keep your mouth shut and your hands to yourself.” He pointed his index finger to Aerexa and she felt herself bristle at the challenge. It wasn’t in her to be reprimanded; everything about Aerexa, right down to her blood, was made to fight. Here though, where so much was riding on this journey to get to Lioe’s family, she knew she had to keep herself contained. “Next time the Captain gets involved and he’ll decide if a lock up is good enough or if you’ll be swimmin’ the rest of the way.”

“Whose to say I wouldn’t just grab the underside of the boat and catch a ride?”

Walkins clucked his tongue with a snarl. “Watch yourself.”

Aerexa held up her hands, palms facing outward, even as he moved to stand. Only when he looked down at her did she make a move as well and even when she was at her full height she still didn’t match his. Either his Aishan parent had been exceedingly tall or she was far shorter than she’d ever thought.

“Am I free to go, Mr. Walkins?”

“Just remember our talk.”

She nodded, very nearly said something snarky in response, but thought better of it. Another day, maybe; possibly when they were disembarking. For now she needed to get back to her room and hide out for a while.

Stage 2 Solo 3

Aerexa leaned over the ship’s railing to take in the sights before her. As one of the many islands that made up Matori came upon them, the crew skittering around behind her, the Vandrea was left to soak it in on her own. Lioe and his sister were presumably still sleeping, since the sun had yet to properly wake, but a solid night’s rest had been hard to come by for her. She’d had too many questions – too many what ifs and personal failings – buzzing around in her brain to properly shut it down.

Sighing, the Aishan adjusted her positioning and caught the eye of something other than the crew moving past. It was that other Aishan – the one she hadn’t recognized – and to keep herself from staring Aerexa sharply turned her eye toward the water. Walkins had made it painfully clear that she wasn’t supposed to go anywhere near that woman so she’d been so good until now-

-and what was she supposed to do if that woman approached her instead?

The darker Aishan hesitantly made her way toward the railing and took up a spot less than arms length away from Aerexa. Still, she didn’t turn her eyes toward the woman, pointedly looking down at the waves instead of so much as daring to look up. It wasn’t until that woman cleared her throat that she even acknowledged she was even there.

“Uhm…you don’t have to avoid me.” Her voice was soft – far more timid than any other Aishan Aerexa had ever heard – and when she dared to look up those dark eyes, so very Alkidike in a body that very much wasn’t, bored into hers. “I’m sorry – about the other day.”

“What for? You were just defending yourself. Nothing wrong with that.” Aerexa said casually. Was Walkins watching her? Was this a test? “I should be the one apologizing. I’m sorry I ran after you the way I did. I just…Nah, I’ll just leave it at that.”

“…You wanted to know, right? About-“ She motioned to herself with a vague gesture. When Aerexa didn’t verbally answer, but nodded instead the woman gave a soft smile. “One of my mothers is Alkidike and the other is Elarian.”

“….That kind of thing can happen? The mixing, I mean.” She’d never seen it before. Hadn’t thought it possible. From what Aerexa had been told once an Aishan prayed to a specific goddess for a bloom if she was lucky enough to receive on it would be in that goddesses image. Not a blend of the two. It made sense though, now that she was seeing all of these features mixed into one form. “So if you’re from Zinris and Chibale, why were you in Belrea?”

“I’m only truly from Zinris. That’s where I was bloomed, same as my sister.” She got a little more comfortable, and stretched her legs out while leaning against the rail. “I work here, though. With Walkins.” That smile deepened and something about her eyes…That pool of darkness took a warmth to it that Aerexa could only assume was love. “It was an escape, a place to hide away from our kind but then…you showed up and I panicked.”

“I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to make things worse.”

“…You didn’t.” And then, that smile was turned to her. “I was scared at first and he…well, he wanted to have you thrown overboard. But hiding from things…it’s not going to help anyone. And it’s a little nice, actually, to talk to a cousin.”

Aerexa just chuckled. “Isn’t it though? There’s so many earthlings here that I feel like I’m talking to children.” The two Aishans exchanged a little chuckle before falling into easy conversation.
