While the practice fields behind the auditorium were open to the public, there was another set of two informal fields further down the road and mostly hidden by a wall of trees. This made them much more ideal to a certain self-conscious and lanky orange haired young man. A satchel on the ground held two books on the rules and procedures of tackleball, plus a roll of bandages and a jar of ointment; just in case. He stood at the sideline of one field trying to not look as awkward as he felt as he cautiously toed the ball along the ground. The ball wasn’t all that large, but it was hefty, especially for him. The players made throwing the thing around look so easy.
Similar to the last time he had been waiting to meet Aerexa, Lioe felt the urge to just run home to keep from embarrassing himself. He just had to keep reminding himself that while he wouldn’t be much use physically, he would definitely be able to help with the verbal lessons. He had read those books cover to cover to make sure he had everything right to teach Aerexa what he could.

Painted Moose
Ever since Aerexa had first seen that tackleball match with Lioe she’d wanted to try it out for herself. She’d thoroughly enjoyed herself during their date and was positively hooked on a game she didn’t understand the rules for. It looked simple enough, just a lot of passing and blocking others from getting it, though just from what Lioe had explained it was a little more in depth than that.
Trying to get away from home to practice, though…That was so much harder. The very same Vandrea who had set up the ‘date’ to tease her were now the ones scoffing at her occasional trips to the bookstore and while Aerexa wasn’t one to let people bother her she did still want to make her name as a warrior.
Tackleball was just good practice though, right? Right.
“Lioe!” When she spotted the earthling, Aerexa waved a hand to get his attention, as if she wasn’t of Aishan proportions. “I tried reading the leaflet you gave me about the rules, but…Well, guess I can’t read Belrean.” Aerexa shrugged with a laugh. “Go figure.”

The voice nearly made Lioe jump with surprise. When he turned and confirmed the owner of that voice, his expression lit with a pleased smile. It still caught him off guard that the blind date had turned into such an unexpected friendship where he was simply happy to see the woman so opposite from himself. He raised his hand and waved back, though the note about the pamphlet made him duck his head slightly. "Oh, sorry. I didn't think about that. You won't have to worry about any more reading though!" He perked up again and tapped at his head. "I can tell you all about what I read."
He squatted down to pick up the ball with a soft huff. Ah, this sport thing was fun to watch, but just too much work for a couch bum like him. "I should have had you bring someone to practice with. It'll be a little tougher with you pretending to play against someone."

“That’s what I wanted to hear.” She pointed her index fingers his way and made an exaggerated wink. Once she was close enough, Aerexa made ‘gimme’ hand motions toward the ball. It wasn’t even that she saw Lioe struggling with it; she just had no impulse control. Aerexa had seen the instrument in play and wanted to get her hands on it!
“You’re not gonna do it with me?” Their size differences and lifestyles hadn’t even clicked for the Vandrea. “I kinda thought you were going to show me by doing it with me.”

He gratefully handed the ball over and took a step back. In Aerexa's hands, the ball looked like it wasn't going to be any trouble to throw around. No surprise there. Her question was a surprise though! Lioe managed to chuckle lightly and stepped closer so that he had to crane his neck fully to look up at her face. When he did though, the amused smile fell a little. He didn't want to disappoint her, but he was no athlete. "I mean.. I could probably show a couple things, but actually practicing with you? I'm pretty sure you would crush me into a pulp without even trying." He stepped back quickly to open up the space again. "I hope that doesn't ruin it..?"

Aerexa tossed the ball into the air, caught it, and on the next toss she gave it a little spin. That one was harder to catch, especially with its weight, but the act itself was just too fun not to try. Though, when he stepped up and started talking her demeanor fell. Try as she might to recover and ‘hide’ it Aerexa was much too open of a soul to pull it off. “No? I mean, I could try not to crush you? I didn’t expect it to get competitive, just a little-“
“I told you she was here!” A voice behind her caught Aerexa’s attention and she gave a half turn back the way she’d come. Three Vandrea strode up to the pair, disdain clear as the sky on their faces. The speaker, one with her dreads in a high ponytail, scoffed. “Honestly Aerexa the date was a joke. You needn’t spend more time with him than you already have. It’s time to come home.”
“How about you go home, Nieva. I’m here because I want to be.” Seriously? She’d been followed?

Lioe lowered his gaze. He really didn't want to go home with any broken bones, but if she was really going to try hard to keep from breaking him in half... He felt himself start to lean toward the line of willingness to try, but a sharp voice yanked him right back away again. Immense strangers who did not look or sound happy in the slightest? He stood rooted in place, eyes shifting between the four women.
The date had been a joke? ..Well, who was he to be upset? He was pretty sure it had been the same on his end. Besides, did that really matter when it had resulting in a pair that enjoyed each other's company? Instinct told him to stay out of the disagreement, so he just remained quietly observant and let Aerexa handle things herself for the moment.

“What are you even doing?” Another one of the women leaned around her defacto leader and eyed the ball in Aerexa’s hand.
“We’re about to play Tackleball. It’s a very intense earthling thing so you wouldn’t be able to keep up.” She motioned to Lioe behind her. “Lioe knows all about it and he was going to teach me before you showed up to ruin it. “
For the first time Nieva turned her sole attention to Lioe. As large as Aerexa must have appeared to him Nieva put her to shame and where as Aerexa’s posture had been welcoming Nieva’s was not. “You needn’t bother. She’s too dense to remember it and what little mind she has should be spent on something useful instead of playing around. I mean, really, Aerexa? All that boasting about being the ‘strongest of us all’ and you’re doing this?”
When Nieva made another step forward Aerexa took a calculated half-step in front of Lioe.

Lioe had been content enough to keep to himself. Just having the irritated women near him was intimidating enough to keep him quiet. Oh gods, now they were actually looking at him. Well, he thought they were looking at him. It was hard to tell without pupils... How had those Aishans grown to be so large, anyway? That would be something worth looking up later.
Ohhoho! Insulting his friend, were they? He was growing enough to be unwilling to tolerate that. Plus, it was easier to pipe up when Aerexa was standing between him and the scary ladies. "Tackleball actually requires a lot of strength to play. And smarts. She's perfect for it."

Nieva scoffed and one of the other women piped up, “If she’s perfect for it then it can’t be that hard.”
As much as Aerexa wanted to slug Nieva right in her smug face a thought occurred to her. It would take some concession on her part, but… “Then prove it. Lioe knows all the rules and how to play. We can split into teams and he can teach us.” She looked over her shoulder to Lioe. “Is that okay with you?” If it wasn’t she was more than ready to put Nieva and her goons in their place. Still, even if she didn’t want to team up with any of them it would mean Lioe wouldn’t have to do something he didn’t want.

With his stomach telling him that his best course of action would be to simply leave, Lioe couldn't help his surprise at Aerexa's suggestion. She wanted to try cooperating with those bullies? It.. would certainly make a point if she were to wipe the floor with them. Of course, one of them would have to be on her team for even numbers... Talk about too much work. "If they really think they can handle it," he said with a small shrug. He looked to the others and frowned as firmly as he could manage. "Any cheating and Aerexa wins by default. Aerexa and I will be held to the same standards, of course."

“We’re Aishans, not Earthlings; we don’t cheat.” Nieva clucked her tongue and walked out across the field with a poisonous sway to her hips. “Tuuyu, you’re with me. Oona can go with Aerexa.”
Aerexa felt as excited as Oona looked. For a moment the other Vandrea looked after her leader before turning to Aerexa with a huff.
Before she walked out to get in place with Oona, Aerexa leaned down toward Lioe. “It’s not against the rules to kick someone in the teeth with the ball, right?” And for a moment she passed a smirk his way before heading out. Oona wasn’t terrible on her own; like everyone else she just seemed worse around Nieva. So, maybe with this ‘betrayal’ she could win her over to the better side. Wouldn’t that be a feat! “Okay Lioe, how do we start?”

Lioe didn't look particularly convinced by Nieva's assurance, but there was no point in saying anything. He was putting himself out there enough as it was. Teaching one person had been intimidating enough, but now there were three more! Aerexa's question made him snort with amusement. "There's... actually no specific rule about it," he admitted under his breath. That Nieve in particular could use a good hit to the face...
With a deep breath, he walked out to the center of the field and gestured for the ball. "Okay, it starts here in the center., each team on either side. It starts when the referee calls it, and the chosen forwards try to grab the ball first... " He went over the guidelines in unnecessary detail for the sake of details. He had been determined to make sure he gave Aerexa all the information that he could, so now everyone was getting the lecture. "Okay. Everyone got it?"

That’s all the incentive I need. Aerexa now a clear goal in sight and while she wanted to win the ‘battle’ something might have been calling a little stronger in the moment…
It was almost comical, with all four Vandrea looking down at the Earthling while he explained the rules. As much as Nieva snarked she was actively listening, which was both worrisome and exciting for Aerexa. She wanted a good challenge, not a half-earned victory. The rules themselves…made Aerexa’s brain check out a few times, but she got the gist of it. She didn’t trust Oona to be their forward (what if she gave up the ball to Nieva?) so she could only hope she would guard the goal.
Now that the other three had shown up Aerexa was glad Lioe didn’t want a part of it. As much as she’d rather have had the two of them if he were in the mix itself the poor man would have been trampled. “Got it. Mostly. No hands, right? Or is that okay?”

Lioe shook his head and pointed at the lines painted onto the uneven grass. The field was broken into roughly four equal parts by the paint, and each end had two posts with some ratty netting slung between them that hung loose enough to catch any ball that hit it. "Here in these two central parts, hands are good. The two far parts are feet only. Too many people hurt themselves or other players tackling into those goal posts. Same with outright tackles. Middle only."
He looked to the other women and nodded. "Ready?" He centered the ball on the middle line and hurried over to the sideline to watch. He wanted to be as far from this action as possible! "Set up. ....Begin!"
