Love is in the air and it is exhausting. It seems everyone is so excited to meet someone new and see if they 'click'. To the point where this new trend has spread across Tendaji - Blind Dates.
The concept is pretty simple - you have a friend (or a matchmaker) set up a date with someone you've never met before. Some find this exhilarating - a chance to go beyond the same old and meet someone new. But others see this as unnecessary anxiety forced upon them by their friends or society's pressure.
Either way, you find yourself set up on a date not of your choosing, with a stranger who you've never met before. This could either be the person of your dreams...or a big mistake. Guess the only thing you can do is see where this date takes you.
---
For those who are already in a relationship, it's hard to host a 'blind date', but you can get close. It's time to surprise your significant other with a night date, just the two of you. No family, no children, just a chance to spend time with the one you love.
[ It's date night! This prompt should include a date with a stranger, either set up by your friends or by a matchmaker. If you're RPing your character with another, we ask that it be someone new (within reason to where your character is currently located). If you're RPing alone, create a new NPC and see where the night takes you.
Who knows, maybe this will be your character's future partner...or maybe an awkward enemy. What's the harm in the name of love?
For those who have characters already in a relationship, we're instead looking for a "Surprise Date" where one of the partners surprises the other with a date experience. ]
Who was the genius to think up these blind dates, and which of his so-called friends were the ones to set him up with one? This was terrifying!
Lioe wasn't the most social guy in the first place, but now he was being expected to entertain someone that he didn't know at all? He had certainly grown since he had moved to Belrea, but that didn't make this any easier. He sat outside of the auditorium practically meditating to keep himself from getting psyched out enough to abandon the date before it even began. He didn't want to be there.. but he also didn't want to be known as that guy who bails on a date! He knew his friends would be eagerly awaiting the results of the date, and if they heard he didn't even show... oh, that wouldn't do at all.
He let out a deep breath and looked at his hands. Don't think too hard, don't think too hard...

What a challenge!
If the other girls in her training group thought Aerexa would buckle simply because they put her on a blind date with an earthling man they thought wrong! What fools! She would charm a hundred men just to spite them! And all before the end of the day just so she could brag when she got back to Chiume. What would they think of her then?! Aerexa, the earthling conqueror! Or what was it they called their rulers? Ah, yes, queens!
Aerexa the Earthling Queen!
Having never been into earthling cities before, Aerexa opted to leave early just so she wouldn't be late. She'd left Chiume with such an inflated ego that she didn't bother asking for directions or even to get any sort of information on their culture. How much different could things be?
Ah, if only she'd thought to ask what a steam engine was then maybe she wouldn't have panicked so much upon seeing her first one. She'd startled a fair amount of earthlings too when she started screaming at it, but at least it wasn't near the meeting spot. Aerexa could get out of her - dare she say it - anxiety before meeting her date. Nerves? What were those?! She didn't have any!
As she moved toward the auditorium Aerexa became aware of several things in quick succession; earthlings were much shorter than she'd thought and they wore much more clothing than she did. A woman in a full, floor length gown took in Aerexa's bandeau top and loin cloth as if she were looking upon the walking dead. Ah, if only she knew that Aerexa preferred the nude~
Focusing on the task at hand, the Vandrea looked around the crowd and tried to get a feel. Her date was a hybrid, which was hard considering she was seeing a few, who answered to Lioe, and who would....be a little...shy....THERE!
"You must be Lioe!" She approached with a smile, heedless of the obvious social anxiety he exuded.

With so many earthlings around, he wondered if his date would even be able to find him! Bright eyes fluttered over the busy street, but Lioe couldn't bring himself to move or make himself more obvious. They had a location to meet at, so surely that would be enough for her. Besides, if the description was accurate... his date would have no trouble making a path through the crowd.
His head snapped up when he heard his name, eyes going wide. It was true! A Vandrea! She.. didn't seem put out that he was a male..? "Uh.. yeah." Shaking his head to chase off the surprise, he cleared his throat and managed a shy smile. "Yeah, I'm Lioe. You're Aerexa?" He was going to be looking up a lot when he much preferred keeping his head down... This was the opposite of his comfort zone! He would not be dissuaded though. He would see this through!

By the goddess he was small. Aerexa herself was considered 'petite' by Aishan standards, but compared to an earthling she was still massive. And such bright hair! She'd seen a few with orange hair on her way over, but against his darkened skin it really stood out. "I am. You should speak up a little, it's hard to hear you." She gave a few good pats to her diaphragm. "From here, real deep."
Looking about them, Aerexa turned toward the auditorium they were in front of and motioned toward it. "So what kind of building is this? I've been curious ever since I was told to meet you here."

His cheeks darkened bashfully with the attention turning to Aerexa's diaphragm. That was quite a bit of skin... Speak up, huh? "I'll try," he managed with a little smirk, raising his voice just a little. It really was difficult to bring his chin up. It wasn't like this was one of his crazy family members! It was just a girl here to hang out. Right. Having fun.
He looked over his shoulder and nodded. "It's the auditorium. All sorts of events go on here like sports, plays, and festivals. I wasn't sure what you'd like to do, but there's a tackleball game about to start if you're interested in watching it." Anything that would take the attention off of him a little!

Aerexa's golden eyes gleamed a bit and her smile gained some warmth. "See? You can do it." It really was strange looking at an earthlings eyes, even if he wasn't exactly keen on having the attention needed to make contact. There were so many colors there, so many foreign aspects and with every little moment the color shifted...
"Festivals I can understand since we have our own, and sports are like games, aren't they? Just bigger?" 'Plays' were something she didn't understand at all, but honestly the idea of seeing anything physical was exciting. "Come on then, let's go see it. I don't know what tackleball is, but I'd like to learn."

At least his meager attempt earned a positive response! The tall beauty was making his attempts to calm down that much easier. A smile and encouragement was a sight better than eye rolls and mutterings. At least, he hoped there was no eye rolling. He wouldn't be able to tell if she did! On the plus side though, he couldn't tell he was being so directly stared at!
Her eagerness to see the game brought up Lioe's smile more. "It's too intense for me to play.. but I like watching it." He guided her toward the entry and held out the money for the tickets. Avoiding the very curious looks that they were getting, he quickly headed up some steps to the seating where everyone would be focused on the center. Out in the field, four groups with color coordinated shirts over leather padding were warming up.
He sat down on the chosen bench, but then sprang up with a bashful aversion of his gaze. There was a vendor back by the ticket booth.. he should have asked before getting all the way here. "Do you want anything to drink or eat? The games usually last about an hour. ..Anything you'd like."

Yeah, she could see that. A little guy like Lioe would be trampled in any sort of physical event, but that just meant she'd have someone to watch it with. It might be nice to watch a date playing, but then she'd just be alone in a sea of earthlings. If the obvious side eyes around them were meant to unnerve her they didn't; Aerexa walked with a confidence that betrayed her years. She towered over men and women twice her age, smirked down at them as they frowned at her passing figure and followed along behind him.
"Surprise me? Also, maybe we should pick different seats? Pretty sure they'll throw something at me if we don't." She motioned behind her with a thumb to the rows of earthlings who were already seated. There weren't many, but just enough that a taller body in front would make it hard to watch.

Surprise her? That sounded easy enough; everything would be a surprise! ...but what if he chose wrong? What if it was a bad surprise? What if-? He blinked a couple times and looked around at the crowd. He immediately regretted the eye contact with everyone and ducked his head again. Right. He wasn't used to sitting near someone with such height! He nodded silently and pointed up a little higher. "Something up there should work. I'll find you after I get back with the food."
The line was heavy with other last minute snackers getting in line before the game started, but Lioe eventually managed to reach the front of the line. By the time he got back to the section where he had left Aerexa, the players were getting into position to start the game.
Wow. Keeping his head down while looking around for the Aishan while climbing stairs all at once... He forced himself to pause and raise his chin to actually scan the crowd for his date.

Did I break him? Earthling faces were so much more expressive than an Aishans. His eyes darted around them and the shifts in his face made her worry that his heart would stop. It was like seeing a prey beast try to figure out what path to take when it figured out she was waiting with an arrow.
"Lioe." She reached out and tapped his forehead crystal with her index finger. "You're okay." The contact was brief, but she didn't need it to be long. Just enough to get him to actually focus on something that wasn't whatever was going on in his head. When she felt like she'd done her job Aerexa grinned and motioned behind her with a thumb. "I'll be up there; don't take too long."
Annnd it felt as if she'd jinxed him. Surely that was why he was taking so long? It didn't take Aerexa more than a few moments to find seats that would work for them, but it felt as if Lioe was taking ages. Maybe he'd left? Goddess, what if he really was gone? Some conqueror of earthling men you are... He was a flighty little thing, though. Maybe the anxiety of it all was getting to him?
She'd nearly given up hope entirely when she spotted a familiar form climbing the stairs. Aerexa stood up and started to wave her arm, growing increasingly more frustrated when he just kept looking down but then eventually he looked up!

When he finally caught sight of the Vandrea, he felt himself relax. She was now his anchor in the growing sea of spectators. His head dropped once more as he made the rest of the climb, making sure he didn't drop anything. "Sorry., the line was really long." He took his seat and held out the options he had returned with for Aerexa to choose from. With four different drinks and six different types of snacks... he was pushing his budget, but surely Aerexa would have something to enjoy. He even managed a hopeful smile to encourage her along.
A sharp whistle blew, and the game commenced. The crowd came alive around them. He resisted the urge to shrink into his seat and nodded to the field. "You said this is your first time seeing this, right?"

Aerexa just shook her head. "No worries. Little guy like you probably coulda just slipped right through if you wanted. In and out real quick like." Taking her seat once more, Aerexa attempted to tuck one leg underneath herself as she usually did, but seeing as these seats weren't built for Aishans it didn't pan out. "It's what I do. Believe it or not, but I'm short for my kind. I - Goddess, you got a lot, didn't ya? Did they have anything left?" She asked with a laugh.
Still, she was grateful for the selection and after giving her thanks Aerexa reached for a peachy colored drink. At first she wasn't quite sure what to make of it, since the sweetness curled her tongue, but the aftertaste was smooth enough to make her smile. "It is! I've actually never been in an earthling city before." She was trying to answer his question, but oh! The whistle blew again and the crowd exploded! "Oh, oh! They moved the ball! They're so fast."

Lioe couldn't help gawking. Aerexa.... was short?? He had seen a few Aishans before, and knew they were taller, but had never truly interacted with them to give their height too much consideration. He was pretty lucky to have gotten a "short" one... "You did say you wanted to be surprised," he replied with a wry grin of his own. He helped himself to a cup with a dark and rich drink inside and took a long, savory sip.
Seeing his date's excitement, a warm smile spread Lioe's lips. This.. was actually going to be fun. "The teams are each trying to reach those squares painted on the ground to get their points." He pointed out the different lines on the ground and the teams and the rules, keeping it as simple as he could. Yet, right then, he didn't mind putting in the extra talking he was doing.

FIN!
She didn't know what to make of the earthling. He was so different than anyone she'd ever dealt with before, speaking on behalf of his personality and not physicality, but she found she didn't mind it. It was refreshing in a way and Aerexa was genuinely enjoying her time with Lioe. Seeing that grin brought out one of her own as well. It seemed like he was finally loosening up and surely that meant he was having fun as well?
Reaching for a salty snack, Aerexa popped a few in her mouth as she listened to his explanation. As unlikely as it was that she would remember any of this the next day she found herself uncaring. For the moment it was nice and helped keep her included, even if she did interrupt him from time to time to join in the cheering.
