Truth or Dare has always been a fun and thrilling game that a youngling experienced as they grew up. But even adults may find themselves challenged to tell a secret or take on a dare. Which one will you pick, and how does it all play out?
[ Play out this prompt response by your character responding to a truth or a dare. If you're playing with another character, both will need to respond to their own individual challenge. If this is a solo, play out the response as if challenged by an NPC. ]
When Aerexa volunteered to go with Lioe to check on his family she hadn’t thought it through. The impulsive Vandrea had just gone with her gut, which had been bellowing that her friend was in pain and suffering so of COURSE she should drop everything to help him! It was only until she’d been left on her own pack her things and relay the information to her mother that the gravity of it all came sinking in.
While she didn’t feel regret – she’d meant everything she said to Lioe and if he needed her she’d be there – there was a sense of nervousness in her blood now. She’d only ever been to one Belrean city and even then her visits were sparse. Now she was on a ship, bound for Matori of all places, without another Aishan in sight. There had to be a few onboard – surely she couldn’t be the only one – but in the meantime she just had to be…content, with towering over them all. And their small, cramped bunks in their tiny, cramped cabins.
It was why anytime it wasn’t raining – or, hell, even if it was – Aerexa would spend her time on deck. Out here she could move freely without worrying about hitting her head on anything or ramming her shoulder into a door.

'Don't come,' the letter said, in large scrawling text that told Marcella her father was serious. 'Listen to your uncles. Go to classes. Take care of your brother. Don't come, Mom and Isaia are on the mend and will come home as soon as they can.'
She tore the letter up, furious, and was only a little guilty that Uncle Rivyn didn't get a chance to read it first. She told him his sister was alive, but that Dad wrote the letter and there wasn't anything in it for him, and he accepted it with a face that looked too close to a kicked puppy. When Lioe showed up a day or two later and asked her to come with him to see Mom and Isaia, she leapt at the chance.
Now, she was driving both Lioe and herself crazy below deck with the constant 'fwip fwip fwip' of her dealing her tarot cards, cutting the deck and shuffling with little success. Her mind was far too troubled to even begin to decipher anything she drew, and even then she'd really never been good at it in the first place.
So, when it felt like she was finally going to snap, she got up and wondered up to the deck, pausing when she saw the Vandrea that came with Lioe in the distance. She hadn't really thought much about her presence here. Distantly, she was glad her brother had someone to support him right now, even if the bitter, childish part of her was angry he hadn't let it be her. Before she could rethink it, Marcella walked over to where the woman was standing, tucking some flyaway curls behind her ear. "It's been a long time since I've been on a ship. How about you?"

There were aspects about Miranda - Miraiya? Majorie? - that reminded Aerexa of her older brother. This was the only one of Lioe's siblings that she'd met and while she knew he was a hybrid she'd also expected his siblings to look a little more blended. Mitzi - Marcella! - so clearly took after their Lightning side that it was hard to immediately recognize Leafling traits. Also, mostly because Aerexa had never really seen anyone from Tale.
"I've never been. Well, unless you count the smaller ones we take from Chiume to Belrea." At least those had been built with Aishans in mind. "Hey, uh - how ya holdin' up?" Checking in with Lioe came naturally. Periodically Aerexa would walk by him, either hold up a hand to wait for his thumbs up or a little word, but for the most part she gave the siblings their space. Margarine - MARCELLA! - though...Well, she wasn't sure where to start.

Marcella nodded her head as she propped her hands against the railing of the ship, gazing out over the water. It was a surprise to learn that her brother had made friends with a Vandrea in the first place - and learning that the older girl had never traveled before made her wonder just how close they were. When Aerexa somewhat awkwardly asked after her, Marcella's stared at her out of the corner of her eye, somewhat cynically amused. "Well. I learned that Mom's not dead, so I'm a lot better than I was last week." She responded, with an off putting peppiness in her tone.
She turned to face the other girl, a henna stained fingertip tapping thoughtfully against the rounded crystal that dotted her chin. "But honestly you don't come off like someone who makes small talk. You don't have to be nice to me just because I'm Lioe's little sister, okay?"

Little brat. She may have said as much, too, if it weren't for the context of the trip. Aerexa needed to be nice and so instead of quipping back she instead offered the teenager a droll stare with those all consuming, golden eyes before relaxing against the railing.
"What if I just wanted to be nice?" The Vandrea shrugged her shoulders, the loose sleeve of her top sliding down over one bicep. "Look it's just...kind of hard not to imagine how messed up I'd be if I heard about my mom being in that kind of situation. So I wanted to help; regardless of who you're related to." It didn't help that compared to her the adolescent earthling was downright puny and Aerexa felt the need to put her back below deck, where she couldn't fall off or snap in some way.
"So, uh...how about a game or something? It's a long trip and if you think too hard you'll throw up."

Oh. Well. When she put it like that, Marcella felt a little guilty for jumping to conclusions. She dropped her hands back to the railing, and tried not to ogle the Vandrea's muscled bicep. If this WAS her brother's lady, it'd be awkward in the future to know she'd been admiring her like that! That, and there was a spike of guilt for allowing anything other than abject worry for her mother and brother to come to the forefront of her mind.
Her first instinct was to jump at the chance at a game - at ANYTHING to keep her mind from chewing itself up. Only on second thought did she wonder if she should be insulted at being treated like a kid.
Screw it, let her be treated like a kid just a little longer. "A game?" She asked with obvious interest, hooking an arm over the rails so she could slouch into the side of the ship, hand extended. The ship was too big to feel the sea spray on the otherwise calm water, but the wind was nice anyway. "Okay, I'll bite. What are the rules of this game?"

"Yeah, why not?" The Vandrea gave a lopsided grin and made herself comfortable against the railing. None of them would be going anywhere for a while and it wasn't as if moping about would do them any good.
"Okay so it's truth or dare. If you pick truth you have to answer any question I ask with an honest answer and if you pick dare you have to do whatever I dare you to do. If you don't want to...." Aerexa pursed her lips and looked around. What would be a fitting...punishment...? Ah, there! She raised a hand to point at the mast. "You have to lick that. Same goes for me. If you dare me to do something and I don't I'll have to lick it. So, which is it? Truth or dare?"

Truth or Dare? Marcella arched an eyebrow at the Aishan, then followed where she gestured, wrinkling her nose. That thing?! Ugh. Yeah, that would be gross - who knew how many birds had pooped on it while this ship sailed around? Or fish smacked against it during big waves or--
Truth seemed a little dangerous, considering that veered dangerously close to FEELINGS, and she didn't know if Aerexa would take the opportunity to squirrel an honest answer out of Marcella about how she was doing - for her brother probably- so she swept an arm grandly towards her opponent. "Dare. Hit me with your best shot!" She raised her chin with playful defiance.

Aerexa didn't even bat an eye as she stuck out her tongue to the little earthling. It was immediately followed by an absurdly wicked grin before the Aishan leaned back against the railing in pride. It would be a good distraction for Marcella and something fun to keep Aerexa out of Lioe's hair. Or at least to stop her from messing about where the crew obviously didn't want her. Honestly, if she wasn't supposed to go in a room they should have made stronger locks or something at least.
"Oooh, alright, little spark. I like the energy." She couldn't pick anything too bad; she wanted it to be fun, not detrimental or scathing. "I dare you to clap every time someone says your name. Marcella."

What would she dare her to do? Marcella bounced on her heels but stopped, blinking in surprise when it finally came. She opened her mouth to ask, 'Really, is that all?' but the call of her name made her jump and immediately clap - a dainty enough motion that was more the light tapping of fingertips together rather than a full, palm to palm clap.
"What? For how long?" She asked, giggling at the absurdity of it. "So is it my turn now? Truth or Dare!"

Aerexa clucked her tongue. "Is that all? That's hardly even a clap! Where's the spark? The commitment?" Of course the teasing was all in good fun, and despite her mock approval the Vandrea couldn't wipe the grin from her face. "Let's say...until dinner. Does that sound good, Marcella?"
Their next meal was still a fair bit away so maybe it would be good to let the teenager sweat it out. "Hmmm. Truth! You're not gonna get back at me that quick."

Oh! Marcella's cheeks pinked and she firmly clapped her hands again, bursting into embarrassed but giddy laughter when a nearby crew member shot her a curious look. "Hee hee! My hands're going to be numb by then!" She complained, but she was smiling, and didn't really mind it in the least.
She should be nice. Really, she should - Aerexa could have dared her to lick the mast anyway, or pour deck water on herself, or toss a boot overboard - she had been NICE so it was only fair that Marcella be nice back, right? And yet when the Aishan chose Truth, Marcella's eyes glimmered and she eyed the older woman with interest. "Hmm... truth hm? Well - so Lioe." She leaned in a little, eyebrows raised. "Are you two friends, or - or are you courting each other?"

It took a good, long moment to process what it was exactly Marcella was asking and by the time it pushed past the dense jungle of fog that was Aerexa's brain her skin warmed.
Her grin stayed in place, but it was as if her entire body had paused, right down to her breathing, while the overwhelming feeling of 'oh no' ran it's course. "WHELP, I think that's my cue to lick the mast." Aerexa burst out into an incredibly awkward laugh and scuttled her way over to it. When a crewmate had sense enough to step away from her she just waved him off, and laughed a little louder. If the laugh sounded like a choke - a sob - or a cry for help who could say?
Aerexa didn't even hesitate to lick it. She didn't give herself time to. Was it disgusting? By the goddess yes. It tasted like a mixture of salt, fish, grime and - something sweet? And that was the most concerning of all! And maybe she gagged a little after doing it - if asked she would have lied and said she didn't.
But once it was over she turned a look to Marcella, "Your turn. Truth or Dare?"

Oh no! She broke her! Aerexa was so stunned that she didn't even turn Marcella's dare back on her, and instead bee-lined it for the mast, licking it with so much gusto that Marcella had to stifle a little retch of sympathy behind a hand.
Then, Aerexa turned back to Marcella, and almost on instinct the girl clapped again, squeaking a bit. Ooooh that was going to come back and haunt her wasn't it? "W-well - uhm! Thanks so much! I think that game made me feel -- er-- better! Thank you! Uh-- l-let me get you something to wash your mouth out with--"
Something told her she might have gone too far with her question, but the keen disappointment at the lack of a proper answer left her frustrated and INTRIGUED in equal measure.
