Personality: Honi has had her life turned upside down, but she is determined to not let it wear her down. Through it all, she still loves being around people and having fun. She's much more cautious with those she approaches now, and will limit how close she allows herself to get to any new friends for the time being. Already physically strong, she is working hard to get her mentality to catch up so that she can help those she loves. She loves working with clay and pottery, among other art hobbies.

Physical Description:
Body Type: Similar to current; curves with strong arms/shoulders from her work with pottery.
Honi was usually nothing less than passionate about her work. She could remember feeling adrift at one point, lost in a sea of options for her future. While she had never despaired over the lack of direction, there had been a slightly overwhelmed feeling. How was one supposed to make a choice with so many possibilities laid out before them?
Then she had gone to a little crafting lesson with her brother, played with shaping clay, and the rest was history.
Creation was magical! She could turn a blob of clay into a delicate work of art or a sturdy tool. A blank canvas could be painted with a thousand colors to create endless worlds. Stones and metals were polished to shine in the most brilliant shapes of jewelry. The only limit was her imagination! Well, her imagination and her coin purse. And her skills, really. She was determined that none of the three limits would ever get in her way! Money was earned, imagination expanded, and skills grew with practice. Each success, and each failure, was seen as a step in the direction toward independence and happiness.
The failures still stung though.
“By the gods! How did he do that?” Honi yelped, throwing her hands up into the air when another clay mold came out of the kiln with the top collapsed in. One of her rivals, a young man by the name of Toliver, had made an impressively tall vase with so many angles and holes and twists… It was utterly gorgeous, and also just practically impossible to do without directions. Of course, Toliver wasn’t sharing any of his secrets. Honi’s skills were growing, but she hadn’t gotten to that level yet. Most of her larger work was kept to things like sturdy pots that were simple enough to make and decorate. Anything elaborate was still done on a small scale, like a talisman or a decorative plate.
Fion, one of her fellow artists with whom she would often split supplies, looked up from her own work and cocked a brow. “Honi, you are five steps ahead of me with any of that pottery stuff. I don’t know how to help.” She smirked lightly and shrugged a shoulder. “Just suck up your pride for a minute and go ask Toliver himself how he did it. I know everyone says he’s a brat, but he’s like us, right? Surely he won’t mind sharing a couple tips.”
Honi rolled her eyes and dropped the poor vase into the parts bin where it shattered. Anything in there was a failed attempt and was officially free for anyone to use for other projects, since wasting materials was a big no-no. “You haven’t met him yet, huh? The guy is such a snob! If I go ask him for a hint, he’ll just laugh in my face.”
Fion shook her head and hunched back down to resume working on her painting. “Then don’t worry about copying his work. Make something of your own. You’re not usually this worried about comparing yourself to someone else’s work.”
With a longer sigh, Honi went to the kiln to pull out one of the smaller pieces she had made. “It’s not that I’m worried about measuring up to him. Gosh, least of all him.” She sat down at the table and gently set the pot down. Her brow knit slightly with concentration on her spinning thoughts, her hands automatically moving to prepare the glaze for the piece in front of her. “I guess… I don’t know. I’m not getting any younger and I feel like I’ve… like I’ve hit a wall. The small things sell a little, but I feel like all I’ve been selling lately are these boring old pots.”
Fion’s head snapped up and she stared for a moment before she burst out laughing. “Girl, you sound like you’re thirty! What’s going on with you?”
Though she let out a weak chuckle, Honi’s eyes remained slightly downcast. “I know, it sounds silly. I guess it’s… my siblings are already having kids.” Her cheeks heated slightly. “I don’t want kids yet, but seeing them running around.. I want to have more than just a little stall to sell small things at.” She looked over at the broken bin wistfully. “Toliver’s gonna be able to sell that piece for a lot of money. I don’t feel like I’m being a successful adult yet. ..Like I’m falling behind.” Family was important to her, more so than anything else. With her personal goals and ideas drifting from the typical family traits, it was sometimes hard to feel like she was progressing quick enough. Her younger siblings had kids… shouldn’t she be a bigger name in the world by now? Shouldn’t she be making items that sell for enough to let her live on her own. “If I can’t create something better soon, I’ll just keep falling behind.”
She picked up the pot to turn it over, but her distracted thinking made her fingers slip and the pot smacked against the table with a sharp crack. “No!” Honi jumped to her feet with frustrated tears starting to well up in her eyes. The pot had landed on the lip, and a sizeable chunk was now rocking a few inches away. In a desperate but ultimately useless motion, she picked up the pieces and shoved them together. “This is a sign. I’m doomed,” she muttered to herself, running a finger along the cracks. “Please, just stop being broken..”
Fion set her paints aside and walked over to give Honi an encouraging hug. “Having kids and having a career are two very different things. You can’t compare your life to theirs with-” Fion’s voice stopped with a sharp gasp. Her eyes narrowed sharply and she leaned down to look at the pot. A finger rose to point while the other hand tapped fervently at Honi’s shoulder. “Honi.. you broke that, didn’t you?”
Honi snorted. “You know I broke it, don’t rub it in,” she huffed. “Not helpful at all.” She looked where Fion was pointing, and body froze with confusion. She turned the pot this way and that, looking at the lip from every possible angle she could think of. Then she took it outside and looked again. “It.. looks like it never broke in the first place,” she murmured in awe. She looked over to Fion with surprise. “Did you do this?”
Fion looked just as shocked and shook her head emphatically. “That definitely wasn’t me!”
Honi looked back at the pot… and dropped it on the ground where it broke into four pieces.
Fion let out a surprised yelp. “What’d you do that for?!”
Honi ignored her companion though, and squatted down silently. She plucked up two pieces of the broken pot and stuck them together. With her eyes hard on the very visible crack, she concentrated and ran her finger along the break once. Then a second time, and then a third. Breath in excited, shallow huffs, she picked up the other pieces and did the same. By then Fion had drawn closer to look. When Honi suddenly jumped to her feet, she seemed startled by Fion’s close proximity… but her face was lit up with a grin. “Fion! Look!”
Brow knitting, Fion took the pot gingerly and gave it a look. Her jaw dropped open, and she turned it to every angle much like Honi had before. “It’s.. completely fixed!” she gasped out, golden eyes lifting to meet Honi’s. “You mended it!”
Honi nodded excitedly. “I can fix the pottery! No glue, no leftover cracks, no nothing!” She grabbed the pot back and spun it in a circle like one might spin with a baby. “Fion, I have magic!” She gasped and stopped spinning, eyes wide. “I.. have magic.” Laughing excitedly, she reached out to grab Fion’s hand. “Let’s see what else I can fix!”
A few hours later, Honi and Fion sat at the table again. Fion was a safe distance away, but still close enough to see. Honi had the pot that she had fixed earlier and was painting on the glaze. Another skill had crept up in their wave of destruction and mending, and she wanted to test… “Okay, here we go…” She raised her hands to create a bowl. In that bowl, a ball of crackling energy started to spark and snap. Honi bit her lip and pushed the lighting toward the pot.
The pot shattered on contact, and Honi fell backward with surprise. “Wow! You okay, Fion?” Once she got the okay, she stood back up to look at her creation. Well… the pot itself had been obliterated, only a few small pieces remained. Yet, on those small pieces… “Check it out!” she gasped excitedly as she plucked up the biggest piece remaining. The spark had hardened the glaze, but an intricate pattern unlike anything she had ever seen was visible.
Her interest in the craft was instantly reborn, and concern about falling behind was forgotten. She had magic that could be incorporated into her art! Now, she would have something new to make her stand out! Something all her own.
