"Do we have to?" Honi whined slightly, giving her brother a side-eye look. The girl was always looking for something fun to do, and her energy could sometimes be a bit chaotic. Her parents were seeking an activity that their daughter could focus on, and this pottery class was the latest attempt. While Honi liked the idea, she was also rather adverse to having someone tell her how to do the pottery. She just wanted to play with it and make her own things! Most teachers had so many rules...

"You know Mom and Dad would never force us to do anything we didn't want to. However, I think that pottery might be fun. We get to make something useful and get to paint it however we like. Who knows, we might get really good at it one day and be able to sell it." He was occasionally thinking about ways to make extra income, it was like a hobby of his, whether or not he would act on his ideas, well. That remained to be seen. "Come on Honi, at least it will be fun, better than knitting right?"

Honi sighed and nodded. "I know... I just don't wanna disappoint them again." While their parents had shown no sign of disappointment at all, the young girl couldn't help but to imagine it in their faces every time she turned another class down. "If I can actually paint what I want.. maybe it won't be so bad." Her brow rose at the mention of the knitting and she stuck her tongue out. "Ugh! Madam Merta was awful." She raised her voice and gave it a scratchy shriek to mimic the teacher. "Follow the pattern, girl! The pattern!" "No patterns, here," said a kind voice with a chuckle. It was an adult standing at the gate of the pottery barn. "Pardon me for overhearing... Please, come join us~"

"I couldn't stand her voice, therefor I did not try the knitting. Dad was actually proud of you for quitting but felt that maybe it wouldn't be a very good example." He whispered the words as he blushed at the attention from the adult. He hated getting in trouble. He always felt so awkward standing there like a hooked fish with the splash of crimson flush across his face. He always wished he could run away from it all. But Dad said men didn't do that. And Dad's opinion mattered to him. Though Kina had Dad wrapped around her finger and he suspected that the same went for Honi. He felt like he had a lot to live up to. He knew that they shared a special bond but well.. he just didn't really know where he stood in the whole pattern. Though he loved it sometimes when they would do just boy things, he always ended up missing his sisters then anyway. "Well, here we go." He hoped this would be more fun than the knitting. Poor Honi had tried so hard but knitting as far as he was concerned was like magic. Mysterious and needing training to master.

Honi smiled bashfully in turn. She certainly didn't want to be known as a quitter... but she was happy to hear dad was pleased. It made looking over at the adult a little easier. She gave Thal's hand a squeeze and headed toward the table she was guided to. A little more time had passed and the woman started handing out clumps of clay to each student. "Alright. Go ahead and get a feel for the clay. I know it looks like mud, but this is actually special made for pottery." Honi cocked her head and poked a finger at the damp blob of clay. "It's squishy," she said to her brother with a giggle.

Thallassa picked up his cold lump and stared at it like it held all the secrets of the universe. "Be one with the clay Honi. He hummed. He liked to make his sisters laugh. It was a great joy. Besides this was going to be fun..they were purposely playing with mud, what could go wrong? He held it between his palms, warming it and quickly making it a ball. He liked balls, it was impossible to get it perfectly round though.

"One with the clay?" she asked with another giggle. It certainly was a strange idea to her, and the distraction was welcome. For her part, she was busy squishing it between her hands. The clay oozed out between her fingers in a strangely hypnotizing manner, making her nearly forget what she was even doing until the woman spoke again. Her eyes darted around to look at the rest of the class. It looked as though it was mostly adults learning there, but they weren't the only younglings either. She turned her attention to her brother's work and gasped. He had a nice looking ball, and hers was a mess still! She refocused, and began forming hers into a flat, circular shape like a plate. Without realizing it, she was hunching over her creation, focusing intently on smoothing out the edges.

Thankfully their teacher seemed to understand the mysteries of clay and younglings. They were mostly left alone to do their own designs while the instructor focused on the adults. You didn't attract people to an art by forcing the creativity out, eventually they would come to her when they were ready.
She did give them some fresh water when theirs got a little brown.
"See Honi its not so bad."

Honi didn't look up again until she heard her name along with the fresh water added to her clay. Blinking back to the present, she looked back down at her creation-in-progress and smiled. "I like it so far," she agreed with a small nod. She glanced over to peek toward the teacher, almost concerned that her words might break the magic moment. Instead, the teacher just gave her a smile and continued on to the other students that needed help. "I wanna make something for mama and papa," she decided. "What are you going to make, Thal?"

"I think I want to make sharks for them, they can use them as decoration. What is your favorite animal? I know Mom loves sharks, Dad loves everything. I like the snaptrotters and sailscales the most but I like sharks too. Its so hard to really choose its all so cool. He wiggled. The sharks would look cool seeming to swim through mom's plants.

Oh, sharks would look really neat! She giggled at the question and shook her head. "How can I pick just one? I guess I'm like daddy and love everything." She looked over the flattened clay in front of her and sighed. She wasn't sure she would be able to make a good enough animal. However.. She suddenly slapped her open hand into the center of the disk and pressed in. When she raised her hand back up, she left a handprint etched into the disk. "I made a pottery of my hand!" she announced.

Thallassa giggled, she was so adorable, straight and to the point. She was a perfect mix of his parents personalities. She was so cool. He loved his sisters. "I am sure they will love it. Your hand looks really good." He thought it would be rather fetching painted and put up the mantel for them all to admire. Thallassa worked on his creatures, shaping the clay somewhat torpedo like with a bit of a longer tail and add some triangular fin things and well, it kind of looked like a shark, kind of like a long goldfish but hey, same same. "Close enough!" It was his first time after all, he was having fun and figuring out how thick and thin he could make it without ripping. It was a little harder than it looked and it helped if the clay was the right temperature too. Clay was more complicated than he had originally thought but it did have advantages over the more traditional mud pies.

The teacher walked by and smiled sweetly at the younglings' creations. "Very nice work, you two. Would you like anything else on them?" Honi cocked her head. "Can I have more clay?" she asked eagerly. The teacher seemed to hesitate for a moment, but then smiled and nodded. "I'll get more for both of you." She looked to Thal with a wink. "I bet you would like to make your fish a friend?"

"Yes please," he was happy she was such a good teacher. Maybe that was what Honi had needed all along, someone who could see her joy and talent and left her to do her thing. If she eventually took pottery seriously then that was a bonus. His fish did need a friend. "Are you making another one?" He asked, wondering if maybe the extra clay was for another handprint or maybe to make decorations on the original. Texture was so fun after all. "Shes a good teacher, I like her, not many out there like her...I don't think." He had only gone with Honi, for the things that he liked too. Clay was win win.

Honi leaned forward and placed her chin into her hands. She quickly pulled back when she realized her hands were damp and muddy... but giggled anyway. "I wanna add stuff to this one," she decided with a nod. Chewing her lip with excitement once the new clay arrived, she broke it up into little pieces to make simple shapes like hearts and circles to dot around her handprint.
