Gold Kleoth
Written by Mr Cheri
Colored by Andranis

User Image

Origin of Name: Kleoth, from Kleopatra, taken either from 'key' or 'glory', combined with 'father', meaning 'key of the fatherland' or 'glory of the father'. Long before there was Daenerys Targaryen, there was Queen Cleopatra VII of Egypt. Cleopatra, the ultimate descendant of Alexander the Great's General Ptolemy, was renowned not only for her beauty, but her sheer force of charisma and intelligence. Through a series of passionate love affairs, carefully selected for the power of the men she took to her bed, Cleopatra consolidated her power. Once the despised and scorned sister of the current Pharaoh, Cleopatra re-branded herself as the New Isis, invoking the long held tradition among the Egyptians of identifying their rulers with the gods.

Although her aspirations for power reaching so far as Rome itself eventually ended with Cleopatra taking her own life in defiance of Octavian, she was roundly successful in drawing powerful protectors to her cause. Throughout her three co-regencies, it was Cleopatra and her brothers or son who held dominion. Cleopatra VII was the first Ptolemaic to learn the native Egyptian language, utilizing its use to further cement her legitimacy in the eyes of her people. So beloved was she by Marcus Antonius that he fell upon his own sword upon hearing a rumor that Cleopatra had killed herself. He would later die in her arms.

When Octavian took Egypt in the aftermath, Cleopatra defied him and refused to allow him the fullness of his victory. In the months to follow, she tried repeatedly to end her life, to the point where he had her guarded at all times. Yet in the end it was Cleopatra who claimed victory, for she was successful in carrying out her wishes, sending Octavian a note requesting that she be buried at her husband Marcus Antonius's side. When he arrived he found her already dead, with her handmaidens dead or dying at her feet. She would go on to be buried alongside Marcus Antonius, her handmaidens given proper burials.

Inspiration: Lioness

Lions are the most social wild cat species in the world, with cubs suckling from any number of females within their pride. The roles within African Lion prides differ, with the males primarily fighting off attackers and the females doing the lion's share of the hunting. It is commonplace for mothers to co-parent their infants, and especially important as they face many dangers in their native climes - including male lions. Like human females, lionesses are capable of conceiving at any times during the year. However, when they are raising a cub they will not go into oestrus. While the dominant male within their pride remain unchallenged, the infant cubs are relatively safe. It is common, however, for lions to try to overtake such dominant males and claim their place, and along with it the lionesses.

Personality: This ferocious Queen is afraid of nothing and no one. She is likely to be a terribly brave Threadfighter, as she has an entire Weyr full of dragons, riders, and weyrfolk to protect - and make no mistake, Kleoth is a fiercely protective dragon. Nothing in all of Pern would please her more than taking down that ancient foe once and for all, and it's likely to be a bit of an obsession for her. However, for all that she does show such a strong protective instinct, she is also a realist at hearts and knows when the battle is lost. For all that she would take down the Red Star itself if the thing could fall from the sky, she knows in her secret hearts that such a thing is ultimately impossible. After all, did they not try before to no avail?

Kleoth possesses a profoundly queenly manner, a strong sense of self. She is a capable leader and is prone to rousing speeches. The young Queen has a clever tongue and an even more clever mind. However, unlike some she does not turn it to cut and carve at others, but to unite those who are divided. Where there is no hope, Kleoth will rise bugling to show the world that there is a bright future simply waiting to be grasped! If only those among the Weyr have the courage to grasp it, that is. She has a great of respect for the leadership of the Weyr and looks to them for guidance. She also doesn't have a strong sense of superiority, she will happily follow any color of dragon.

As brave and fearless as she may be, Kleoth nonetheless places her hearts in those that she loves. Her trust, once won, shall remain in another's keeping, and it would wound her terribly if it was betrayed. She would not understand nor accept another using her for their own gains. Were she to be thusly betrayed, it would break her great hearts. In such a case she would need to lean heavily upon her rider to heal the wounds torn into her so unjustly. Because she possesses such a strong sense of honor, she would not know how best to react, and might lash out in anger and hurt.

This Queen is likely to be quite affectionate to any of her future children, as she wants so badly to mother those around her. It is a little difficult for Kleoth to learn boundaries, because to her everyone within the Weyr is her 'pride.' Although she is a good and noble young dragon, she has not entirely learned to value others' space, and will need to be kept firmly in line when her interference would not be appropriate. She doesn't quite grasp that she's not wanted everywhere, as she certainly wants most everyone near her. That said, were anyone under her protection harmed by another, that other would face an implacable Kleoth determined to bring them to justice.

Positive Traits: Protective, eloquent, maternal
Negative Traits: Foolhardy, overly trusting, interfering

Green Olive Egg: A large egg that seems a bit restless, yet curious and quite bold. This egg is both welcoming and supportive.

Adult Size: 49'
Physical Attributes: Quite large and muscular, yet fiercely beautiful. Sleek in a way that something that large really shouldn't be. She has strong, bunchy muscles but moves with great stealth and grace.

Additional Notes: Kleoth is inclined to bound a lot with the adult dragons whose care she falls under, as she sees them as surrogate parent figures, much like the other lioness mothers in a pride. She also prefers to be a fighter and a mother above political ambition, although she would be suitable to the role if called upon. She adores all of her siblings equally, although she has a special relationship with Leoth, and would come to their defense in a heartbeat. In Threadfall she'll have a lot of power but a little less stamina. Kleoth will be interested in seeing who might win her in a Flight, as that sort of display inclines her to male above pretty words or gestures. She is unlikely to choose the same male twice, but would choose a Western male above an outsider. As she tends to prefer whomever most impresses her, she'll not likely settle down easily.

Impression Effect: Kleoth's deep and abiding love will heal Phryana of much of the bitterness she's felt in life. This will open her up to new experiences and relationships, for no matter how vulnerable or angry she feels, there will always be a being who truly loves her and accepts her as she is. Kleoth has a deep well of inner strength which Phryana can rely upon, no longer afraid that she will be ousted or sent back to a terrible place. From the safe place she will be able to explore a whole world of possibility.

Why Me? Although Kleoth never had the opportunity to meet Phryana while in the egg, once the two met she knew at last that she had met a kindred soul. They are both queens, inside and out, and possess a regal bearing that few can hope to match. But Phryana has a sharpness to her that Kleoth will never have, brave creature though she is. It is Phryana who will be able to help her cope with life's greatest upsets. Phryana, who needs her love so much more than she will ever know, and Kleoth has every bit of love in the world to give her. This queen is a fighter, and Phryana has wit and resources to bring to the table. No one else could ever truly understand Kleoth as her rider will, and let is be said that Phryana will never again need anyone but Kleoth.

Gold Leoth
Written by Mr Cheri
Colored by Andranis

User Image

Origin of Name: Leoth, from the Latin leo, and Ancient Greek: λέων (leon).

Leoth is nevertheless named for Leo the Magnificent, King Leo I of Armenia. Renowned for his skills in diplomacy and politics, King Leo strengthened both his kingdom and their ties to the West. Sometimes known as King Levan the Magnificent, King Leo was in some ways a visionary who imagined his kingdom stretching far and wide. Following his ascension to the throne, he made his court over to reflect the Frankish gentry. His kingdom saw great success in the areas of commerce, mercantilism, and battle, leading to a flowering that undoubtedly was owed to the wise king. King Leo I joined the field of battle alongside the likes of Richard the Lionhearted, participating in the Battle of Cyprus. When King Leo was pronounced King, leading the the renewal of the old Armenian Kingdom, his people rejoiced.

Inspiration: Lion

Lions are the most social wild cat species in the world, with cubs suckling from any number of females within their pride. The roles within African Lion prides differ, with the males primarily fighting off attackers and the females doing the lion's share of the hunting. While the dominant male within their pride remain unchallenged, the infant cubs are relatively safe. It is common, however, for lions to try to overtake such dominant males and claim their place, and along with it the lionesses. Lions are known to form close bonds among their fellows, in many cases displaying mating behaviors toward members of their own sex. Male lions will spend years traveling together in bachelor bands as they try to overtake the dominant male in a viable pride or gain residence in a local pride.

Personality: Although undoubtedly brave, Leoth's most defining feature is her ability to pick her battles. In Threadfall, she will be a great tactician, as she has just enough laziness in her to avoid wasting energy on a task for which she is not well suited. She has no interest whatsoever in being forced into a situation where her skills will not be put to their best use, yet that is the reality of being a part of a Wing. In Leoth's mind, however, she is the queen and should be able to call the shots. When this expectation is not met, she is frustrated. Knowing full well that she does have to bow to those in charge, she nevertheless will still feel as though she might have done the job a little better.

She is a skilled diplomat, well able to forge bonds and friendships which will prove to be beneficial to her. However, that is not to say that Leoth is universally loved. She possesses a gold's certainty in her basic superiority, and really cannot help it. It's not that she thinks she's better than everyone, it's just that she was hatched to privilege and entitled to be treated with an extra level of respect than chromatics are. It's only natural, after all. She didn't make the rules; simply ask the council why there are so many metallics in power and you will have your answer. There is an inherent color bias among dragons and their riders, whether they are honest enough to admit to it or not.

Still, she does think there are very important purposes for each and every one of her kin. They were not all hatched alike, and it would be profoundly unfair and quite wrong minded to put them to the same use. Why, after all, would anyone ask a brown dragon to fly to the heights that a green might, when he would have no ability to dodge and weave as she would? No, Leoth does not believe in that foolishness. However, she is a good hearted dragon, and would listen to the arguments that others made, even if she does think that human values are being wrongfully imposed upon them all. It is her tactical mind that does not allow for the role reversals that Western Weyr demands: to Leoth, it simply doesn't make sense.

Opinions aside, she is a warmly affectionate dragon who would never turn on another. Once devoted, she will remain so indefinitely. It is just simply part of who she is, and she does not make promises lightly. She considers them to be a solemn bond, even if it is simply a relationship that she has formed, and not an oath that she has made. She would shatter herself to pieces trying to keep her word rather than break it, and would find it quite difficult to forgive herself if she failed in that regard. This queen is inclined toward falling hard for others romantically, and may never fully recover if her hearts are broken. It is unfortunate that her devotion is not likely to ever be returned to the fullest extent of her capacity, as Leoth commits herself utterly. She does not understand and cannot abide those who are without honor.

Positive Traits: Honorable, devoted, wise
Negative Traits: Proud, colorist, insubordinate

Egg A large egg that seems a bit restless, yet curious and quite bold. This egg is both welcoming and supportive.

Adult Size: 49'
Physical Attributes: Quite large and muscular, yet fiercely beautiful. Sleek in a way that something that large really shouldn't be. She has strong, bunchy muscles but moves with great stealth and grace.

Additional Notes: She will never fall in love with a lady, as her hearts belong solely to her future prince, whomever that might be. However, she would not object to the company of fellow golds or greens, should they desire a strong shoulder to lean upon. Leoth will never allow a suitor near her whom her twin sister favors. Now were Ussurianth to ever show interest her way she would embarrass herself terribly stumbling over herself to garner his attention. She has nursed a crush on him since before they were properly shelled.

Impression Effect: Sorsha may have once been cute, but she is now stunning. She'll find her bravery increased by the ten fold, for Leoth meets her and matches her in that regard. But the biggest impact that she'll see is a new ability to take decisive action, for there will be no doubts or worries lingering to shade her decision-making. She is smart and capable, and has everything it takes to be the rider that Leoth needs!

Why Me? Although Leoth does not agree with Sorsha's non-colorist views, she certainly respects the esteem in which she holds her sire. Leoth's own relationship with her sire has been a warm one for the most part, although there have been rocky moments. Aware that her own status is questionable at best within Western, she looks to Sorsha for reassurance that she is indeed every bit as much of a queen here as anywhere else. But the thing that Leoth likes most about Sorsha is her daring-do! This fearless girl is a perfect match for a queen who longs to be a Threadfighter. Oh, she cannot wait to show her dearest how well they'll fly together! For Leoth's part, she will offer Sorsha decisive direction, always upward, always yearning to be the very best fighters that they can be.

Bronze Biralath
Written by Mr Cheri
Colored by MaraRune

User Image

Origin of Name: Biralath, from the Bengali word Biṛāla, meaning "cat." Bengali is the most commonly spoken language in Kolkata, once the capital of the British ruled India. Now known as the cultural capital of India, Kolkata is the capital of West Bengal. Renowned for its splendid architectural features, the city is a center for the arts and the sciences, earning the name "City of Joy." Fishing cats are known to roam through the West Bengal region, along with numerous other areas in South and Southeast Asia.

Inspiration: Fishing Cat

The fishing cat's coat is a camouflaged gray-brown with distinctive black spots and stripes. Six to eight black lines run from the cat's forehead to its neck, breaking up into shorter bars and spots on its shoulders. Its cheeks have white highlights and black marks, and its eyes are ringed with white fur. The ears are short and round, and the back of the ears are black. When viewed from the front, they have a distinctive white spot in the center.

The fishing cat's nose is pink or deep-brick in color. Its lips, chin, belly and throat are white with gray spots. The fur on its underside is longer and spotted. Its low-set, muscular tail is shorter than a domestic cat's and ringed with six or seven incomplete dark bands, distinguishing it from the leopard cat.

This cat is powerfully built with short limbs and a stocky body. Its head is round and elongated. Unlike many cats, fishing cats readily swim. Their front toes are partially webbed and their claws protrude slightly even when retracted. This facilitates the capture of prey, especially while underwater.

Another unique adaptation for their semiaquatic lives is the structure of their fur. A compact, dense layer of fur right against the cat’s skin is composed of tightly packed strands of hair, which prevents water from reaching the cat’s skin, keeping it warm in chilly waters. Long guard hairs protrude from this coat, giving the fishing cat its unique pattern.

The fishing cat is one of the largest of the 28 species of small cats. This robust, deep‐chested cat has a body length of 33-45 inches (85-115 centimeters) and stands over 16 inches (40 centimeters) at shoulder height. The adult male weighs 18-31 pounds (8-14 kilograms), whereas the female is slightly smaller and weighs about 11-20 pounds (5-9 kilograms).

The fishing cat's natural range is unknown, but it is currently found across South and Southeast Asia. The western reaches of its range extend into Pakistan, cutting east to Cambodia. The northern part of its range extends to the Himalayan foothills, which runs south to Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Reports of fishing cats are sporadic and, in a few cases, unreliable. But camera traps have confirmed their presence in some parts of their range, including some protected areas in India, along the coast of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam. The last recorded camera trap capture in Vietnam was in 2000. There are reports of fishing cats spotted in urban areas of Sri Lanka. Separate reports place fishing cats in the north coast of Java, but biologists have not seen the species there since, and the population known to live in Ujung Kulon National Park died from poisoning in 2006.

Fishing cats are generally found in wetland areas, such as marshes, swamps and mangrove forests. Their habitat is also linked with species of rodents that they eat, particularly the sensu lato (Rattus rattus). In some parts of the fishing cat’s range, these rodents intersect with areas that are rapidly urbanizing.

Fishing cats can also be seen in cultivated grasslands and agricultural areas with standing water. More recent studies show a rising population of fishing cats in more urban areas. This may not be the result of fishing cats extending their range into urban areas, but rather the encroachment of human development into the wetland areas they rely on.

Personality: A quiet but thoughtful bronze, Biralath often finds himself withdrawing from company in order to contemplate the deeper meaning of the world. He has a the soul of an artist, although not the hands, and will likely take a great deal of enjoyment out of the finer things in life, particularly music. Although he may not be the most arrogant and powerful of bronzes, he is nonetheless a worthy creature, with aspirations of making the world a better place. He sees beauty in the chaos, potential in the unknown. Those who believe themselves nothing are capable of anything, if only they look a little longer.

Granted, Biralath doesn't quite know how to convey this certainty to others, as he is not the most social of dragons. Not that he doesn't want to be, but he takes comfort in poetry and philosophy, sentiments espoused by others whose words he can call upon when he has none of his own. Were he capable of reading, he would no doubt spend his days lost in study. As it is, he turns to the wisdom of his elders to learn the limits of his world. Yet he cannot quite believe that any venture is totally lost, even if he's told not to pursue it. He'll tend toward daydreaming about its success all the same.

When it comes to bonding with others, he'll make grand gestures. If his rider has deep pockets, they will undoubtedly be called upon to buy a present for so and so, because Biralath doesn't know how to make friends. He believes, in fact, that such gestures have more value than his own actions and words. This is because at his heart he is not the most confident of dragons. He longs to be surrounded by friends, but does not have the faintest clue of how to begin making friendship bonds in the first place. He'll be baffled when he's given admiration without seemingly earning it, should such a thing come to pass.

His general lack of grace when it comes to these matters tends to lead the bronze down solitary pathways, will he nil he. He must, he feels, content himself with his own presence and that of his rider because it is unlikely that anyone else would willingly put themselves out on his account. A fussy little creature, he abhors feeling awkward, and will do anything he can to avoid losing face. That is likely to make training quite a chore, as there is no guarantee that he will perform admirably in every respect, and a much higher likelihood that he will ultimately fail to meet his own high expectations.

Positive Traits: Artistic, philosophical, erudite
Negative Traits: Solitary, exacting, awkward

Blue Spotted Egg: A medium that seems to be pondering something very deeply. It's not clear whether it has noticed your approach.

Adult Size: 46'
Physical Attributes: Biralath is long rather than excessively large in his proportions, yet... he is on the large size, all the same. Not the most well muscled among his siblings, this bronze is quite comfortable with his slightly softer build.

Additional Notes: While everyone else was busy making friends, Biralath was pondering the deep mysteries of life. He still has a distant fondness for his siblings, although it is not too much stronger than his fondness for anyone. Of course, when it comes to his rider, the bronze has an endless supply of love and adoration. Far more likely to bond with a mate on a mental level, he does feel the stirring of desire when a Flight occurs, but it's totally a mark toss whether he'll join in the Chase. Because his perfect match would be a meeting of minds, he does not care what color they might come in.

Impression Effect: Kateleel, upon Impression, will simply exude masculinity. He has always been a man, and Biralath has absolutely no doubt about that. But now it will be obvious to anyone that meets him, and Kateleel will never need to go to a mindhealer about his gender again. He will have a new surge of confidence in himself that is catching.

Why Me? There were many things about Kateleel that drew Biralath to him. He was the perfect match for Biralath's intellect, and possessed a certain charming quality that the bronze could not resist. When he felt Kateleel's fear at the sight of his twin sisters, he knew in his hearts that he must overcome it and show him that he is and always has been the man of Biralath's dreams. Not only is Kateleel a rider, but he is a bronzerider - more importantly, he is Biralath's rider. What he loves so much about his rider is that the man knows how to work hard, and knows the true joy that can come from mental work. Together they will solve puzzles that Pern has never before dreamed of, and Biralath cannot wait to get started.

Bronze Nimrath
Written by Mr Cheri
Colored by demon_pachabel

User Image

Origin of Name: Nimrath, from the Hebrew beth Nimrah, or mountains of the leopard.

Inspiration: Leopard

Personality: Although Nimrath struggles to budge himself from a comfortable ledge, he is deeply curious about what is going on down below! This bright, engaged young fellow has apparently never realized just how utterly unwelcome he is right in the thick of things, trying to be in the middle of whatever is going on. He is a relentless gossip, always fascinated by whatever rumor is currently making its rounds. Oh, does so and so look like she's shining, lately? Nimrath is there, lounging in indolent splendor in the spot with the most light, listening in and making judicious comments of his own. For indeed, he is quite an observant young beast, well able to track the details of this and that relationship, like some great web weaving in and out all through the Weyr.

Of course, Nimrath doesn't use this knowledge for anything particularly useful. He just likes being popular, and enjoying the fruits of his latest round of gossip. It's just... it's a fun game, all right? Nimrath can't help if it's all too easy to turn heads with this or that tidbit. Oh, didn't they know that so and so had recently flown that green? Nimrath did. He is charming, in his rather superficial way, and quite likable, if a deplorable gossip. One thing that can be said of him is that he absolutely cannot keep a secret. He's certainly tried, and he knows that some are more important than others, but the temptation to use some bit of hidden knowledge to his advantage would be just too much.

Perhaps it's inevitable, then, that some of Nimrath's friendships have been burnt rather permanently in the process. It's nothing personal, he promises, but... he can't keep quiet. Maybe this foible surfaced because he hatched a twin, and therefore always had someone to gossip with in the shell, someone who would never truly turn against him. Maybe it's something that he's developed over time. Whatever the reason, he has sadly been unable to rebuild bridges that have long since burned.

If he's a bit of a shallow creature, it really cannot be helped. After all, when one is quite so beautiful, one does maintain... certain standards. He wants nothing more than to be doted upon and delighted in, and if he can't have that, well... at least his beauty can be admired. If that means that his relationships have less depth than some others might, so be it. The important things is that eyes are on him and ears (head knobs) are listening to him. He wants so badly to be the center of attention that one might wonder whether he never had any in the egg. Which... well, is patently false.

Positive Traits: Charming, curious, observant
Negative Traits: Indolent, shallow, gossiping

Ace Flag Egg: A small egg that seems utterly, terribly, most magnificently... bored.

Adult Size: 35'
Physical Attributes: Nimrath is a sleek, but small bronze, close in size to his twin brother, who tops out at 31'. He's quite eye-catching, and well aware of it. Look a little longer, if you please. He'll just spread his shiny wings and show off just what a babe he is.

Additional Notes: This bronze would never actually give a lady a second glance, unless it was to find out what she was up to. Would likely only chase a queen if it meant babies for himself and whatever flight of fancy he happened to be enjoying at the moment. Even then, he's not precisely the paternal type, so that's not going to happen anytime soon. Ladies and gentlemen can both look, but Nimrath will be sharing his ledge with whatever the masculine flavor of the day happens to be. He hasn't dreamed of settling down yet, but it's not completely out of the picture. Maybe someday.

Impression Effect: Post-Impression, Wren will be better able to control his emotions. Since Nimrath is a bit slow to feel deep emotions in the first place, not that he's incapable of them, Wren will find a new ability to view situations with a bit more of a level head. At the same time, he's already a beauty to begin with, and Impressing to Nimrath is just going to heighten that. Watch out, world!

Why Me? Why not you, darling? Who else could understand Nimrath's needs and wants? Who else could get this shallow bronze, or be the perfect confidante? And frankly, dearest, Nimrath wants to see all of the beautiful things that Wren's been making. If he happens to feel they'd look better on him, well... he's not wrong. Nimrath adores Wren for his beauty and his perfectionist nature. They're both quite bright, so will be able to come up with all manner of entrancing things to discuss. Oh, he's so looking forward to this! Nimrath doesn't use his hearts quite as much as Wren does, which will give them a balancing point. Maybe it's for the best that they have differences, because if they were the same, they'd likely never get anything done.

Bronze Pantanath
Written by Mr Cheri
Colored by Meepfur

User Image

Origin of Name: The Pamapas Cat is also known as Pantanal cat and colocolo in parts of its range. Pantanath gets his name from this.

Inspiration: Pampas Cat

The pampas cat (Leopardus colocola) is a small wild cat native to South America. It is named after the Pampas, but occurs in grassland, shrubland, and dry forest at elevations up to 5,000 m (16,000 ft). The pampas cat is a little bigger than a domestic cat and has a bushier tail.

Little is known about the Pampas cats's hunting and breeding habits. It is thought to prey mainly on small mammals and birds. Guinea pigs are thought to form a large part of its diet, along with viscachas, other rodents, and the ground-dwelling tinamou order of birds. Though some have suggested it is chiefly nocturnal, others suggest it is mainly diurnal.

Litters are relatively small, usually consisting of only one or two kittens, and occasionally three. The kittens weigh around 130 g (4.6 oz) at birth. The average lifespan is nine years, but some have lived for over 16 years.

Personality: This young bronze has the heart of a diplomatic, as well as a strong romantic streak that runs through him. He can easily be carried away by the pageantry of a situation, caught up in some internal drama that plays out only for him. He is deeply passionate about protecting others, and takes his duty as a fighting dragon very seriously. Quick to rise to another's defense, Pantanath is not afraid to speak his mind, but he is tactful with others so as not to wound them. Tending to be bold rather than wise, he can get himself into trouble when he acts without thought.

It will be up to his rider to keep him focused on simple day to day tasks, as he wants nothing more than to be the hero Pern has been waiting for! Unfortunately, he can sometimes grow discouraged when it seems that a cause is unwinnable, or if he seems to be stuck in a rut. Pulling Pantanath out of such a rut will be a challenge indeed, for he is quite an emotional creature. He is strong minded, and needs to be convinced that it is time to pick up his proverbial sword and shield, and head back into the fray. However, since he believes so strongly in fighting for what is right, he will ultimately fall into line.

Where he truly shines is in his ability to turn the most harsh rebuke into a rallying cry. Not only is Pantanath quite charming, but he is driven to do as much as he can for others. It will be difficult indeed to convince him to back down from a fight if he does find himself in one, as he does not like losing face. As agreeable as he might be, he does still have a bronze's competitive streak, and he will throw himself at danger, even if that danger happens to be another's claws.

Incapable of seeing past the end of his snout, Pantanath is distinctly lacking in foresight. Oh, he'll daydream all right, and hope and plan for the future, but when it comes down to realistic expectations, he just does not have them. No one ever bothered to tell Pantanath that he couldn't reach the highest heights, and if they did, he totally failed to understand them. Naturally accepting of others, he doesn't precisely understand the ingrained color biases that many other bronzes possess, and he does tend to take them poorly. He'll champion the little guy in a heartbeat.

Positive Traits: Expressive, passionate, driven
Negative Traits: Foolhardy, daydreaming, restless

??? Egg: A welcoming presence envelopes you, and you are, for the moment, buoyed by this medium sized egg. Don't give up!

Adult Size: 35'
Physical Attributes: A handsome, and quite small boy, Pantanath is probably the most delicate of his bronze brothers. What he lacks in strength, however, he makes up for in unusual agility. He has broad wings and a long tail, all the better to catch the wind and turn on a dime.

Additional Notes: This boy adores music and dancing, and will love watching any harpers or courtesans perform that he can. He also loves shiny things, and fully expects his rider to indulge his grand tastes... even if that means little shiny baubles that aren't worth much. He doesn't know the difference, but adores looking nice. Will fully expect to dress up his rider, too. Pantanath would enjoy having a handsome fellow of his own, and is unlikely to chase many queens, if any. He just prefers the gentlemen, what can he say! This little hero-in-training wants nothing more than to save Pern, and save it he shall!

Impression Effect: Midais has been endowed with a noble cause! Pantanath will always fight for what is right, and now Midais has +10 to his charisma when attempting to do what is just and good. He will always have a slightly larger than life aura, but he will really shine when he is behaving in keeping with Pantanath's own views of how Pern should be: good, true, noble, and kind! When helping others, he will have an edge trying to calm them down, or convincing them that he means well. His speeches are just a little better than most, and he's not sure where that came from.

Why Me? If he's being honest, Pantanath initially selected Midais because, to the infant in the egg, he resembled the kind of hero that the little dragon dreamed about. One day he wants a man who is just like him! ... Maybe not just like, but who possesses such a strong and good heart. Certainly, Pantanath adores that goodness, and will treasure it always. If Midais struggled before to speak with care, he will have no difficulty now, if he so desires, for Pantanath will show him just how it's done. He's a kind, caring, idealistic bronze, and he just knows Midais has what it takes to meet him halfway. Together, they can truly save Pern! Western has had a rash of difficult Threadfalls, and this little bronze just knows that Midais will be the fighter they need.

Bronze Ussurianth

Origin of Name:
Ussurianth's name comes directly from the river where Siberian tigers were known to be sighted, as well as one of the its alternative names. The Siberian tiger was also called Amur tiger, Manchurian tiger, Korean tiger, and Ussurian tiger, depending on the region where individuals were observed.

The Ussuri River or Wusuli River, runs through Khabarovsk and Primorsky Krais, Russia, and the southeast region of Northeast China. It rises in the Sikhote-Alin mountain range, flowing north and forming part of the Sino-Russian border (which is based on the Sino-Russian Convention of Peking of 1860) until it joins the Amur River as a tributary to it at Khabarovsk.

Inspiration: Tiger
The tiger (Panthera tigris) is the largest species among the Felidae and classified in the genus Panthera. It is most recognisable for its dark vertical stripes on reddish-orange fur with a lighter underside. It is an apex predator, primarily preying on ungulates such as deer and wild boar. It is territorial and generally a solitary but social predator, requiring large contiguous areas of habitat, which support its requirements for prey and rearing of its offspring. Tiger cubs stay with their mother for about two years, before they become independent and leave their mother's home range to establish their own.

The tiger once ranged widely from Eastern Anatolia Region in the west to the Amur River basin, and in the south from the foothills of the Himalayas to Bali in the Sunda islands. Since the early 20th century, tiger populations have lost at least 93% of their historic range and have been extirpated in Western and Central Asia, from the islands of Java and Bali, and in large areas of Southeast and South Asia and China. Today's tiger range is fragmented, stretching from Siberian temperate forests to subtropical and tropical forests on the Indian subcontinent and Sumatra. The tiger is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List since 1986.

Historically, the Siberian tiger was considered to be the largest tiger. Historical Siberian tigers and Bengal tigers were the largest ones, whereas contemporary Siberian tigers are on average lighter than Bengal tigers.

The tiger is among the most recognizable and popular of the world's charismatic megafauna. It featured prominently in ancient mythology and folklore and continues to be depicted in modern films and literature, appearing on many flags, coats of arms and as mascots for sporting teams. The tiger is the national animal of India, Bangladesh, Malaysia and South Korea.

Personality: For being a bronze, Ussurianth is less loud-and-proud, and a little bit more secretive-and-aloof. He is the sort of bronze that draws the eye naturally due to his beauty, but also because he is a mystery. He doesn't need to speak up or strut; he doesn't need to gloat, or talk up his accomplishments. No, Ussurianth simply knows how great he is, and it matters not what anyone else thinks of him.

Thankfully, he isn't a vain dragon, or arrogant--at least no more than any other bronze. Instead, this dragon is decisive. There is no room to waffle over what to do. Ussurianth sees the world in black-and-white, right and wrong, good and evil. If a decision has to be made, he will make it without hesitation; if someone isn't sure what to do, he will tell them; and if he needs to pick a path, you can bet he will do so without fear. Whether right or wrong, Ussurianth follows what he thinks is best, and isn't the sort to waffle.

Strong of body, strong of mind, Ussurianth can take quite a hit--and give one in return. He is built much like a brick, a bit heavier than some bronzes, but with stamina in droves. This mimics him emotionally, too; there is very little that gets under his skin, or draws out his ire. Ussurianth will easily be there to lift up or encourage his rider during their time of need; anyone who is emotionally distressed will always find a strength and encouragement in Ussurianth. He is wise in his own way, but don't be fooled--there is always something in his kindness that will benefit this bronze.

For Ussurianth is still a bronze at heart, and naturally does crave to be at the top of the food-chain. While he doesn't say so loudly, his rider will know that Ussurianth often sees himself well at the top of any situation, and will force his way there if necessary. Everything he does often is done for a reason, and he has no problem using his fellow clutchmates and weyrmates as if they were pawns on a board-game. Though this bronze doesn't consciously think of them as such, he doesn't often make a move without some internal purpose behind it. As he grows, especially if his rider doesn't keep his dragon in check, Ussurianth will have no trouble using others, or manipulating them to his wiles. He's not a bad dragon, he just often thinks of his needs, and the needs of his riders, first. And why shouldn't he? Life isn't fair, and if Ussurianth doesn't fight and take, someone else will.

Quiet and secretive in nature, Ussurianth isn't the sort to go out of his way to make friends; instead, they will come to him, or be drawn towards his aloof ways. He is a bit more reserved than some, though he won't object to company (particularly if they're pretty or useful). He simply won't force his way into the limelight like some of his more vocal cluthmates, or strut proudly like some of the rest. No, those who want to get to know Ussurianth will need to approach and hope they have something worthwhile to say. Besides which, as a bronze with his own secrets, a distanced lifestyle suits him, as it will take longer for others to realize his sincerity might be less genuine (and more self-serving) than it seems.

Positive Traits: Strong, Decisive, Patient
Negative Traits: Self-Centered, Manipulative, Secretive

Charcoal Egg: A large egg at the back of the clutch. This one is very guarded but every now and then, you get the feeling you're being watched.

Adult Size: 44'
Physical Attributes: Ussurianth is a solidly built bronze. He's a large bronze, though by no means the largest, but that doesn't seem to bother him or cut into his confidence. He has shorter limbs than some of his fellow dragonkin, and might even be a bit heavier than some of his more sleek companions--but he is strong. This dragon knows how to take a hit, and physically, is quite capable. He has great amounts of stamina, and won't tire easily whether on foot or on wing.

Additional Notes: Ussurianth is an independent bronze. He is opportunistic, and won't shy away from any lady's attention--or even a males, if he found them pretty enough. That said, he isn't the sort to be tied-down and it would take an exceptional dragon indeed to capture his hearts solely, if it were to ever happen. He is not particularly paternal, and if he ever fathers a clutch he won't hesitate to leave the nurturing up to the queen.

As a Threadfighter, Ussurianth will be quite dependable. His aloof nature doesn't make him the most outspoken of dragons, but he serves with honor, and doesn't hesitate to jump into battle. He's patient (if a bit strong-willed) around others, reliable during times of trouble, and dedicated to being a good Threadfighter. If he has the itch to lead, he knows how to bide his time and wait.

Impression Effect: Tostokki will find his coldness is more easily melted. While he might have separated his emotions before Impression, and been merciless in demeanor, with Ussurianth's eternal support, love, and power, Tostokki has no need to be as extremely guarded. And as a weyrling and rider, connecting emotionally with both his dragon and his fellows is imperative.

Why Me? Ussurianth was immediately drawn to Tostokki when the Candidate touched his egg. The man is aloof and private, something that this bronze certainly appreciates; he wasn't interested in someone loud, proud, and flashy; he wasn't interested in someone who would want to stand out in a crowd. That said, with Ussurianth at his side, Tostokki is going to find that he'll be centered around a good deal of attention, even at Western Weyr. He's going to find himself in many situations that might well force him to speak up and speak out; he's no longer going to be allowed to be detached from the world--but he needn't worry. While the blonde might have little patience, Ussurianth has enough for the both of them; he will be able to help calm and soothe any irate feelings that could well cloud Tostokki's head or judgment. Where Tostokki might refrain from action, Ussurianth won't and he will force the boy's world view to open up.

This man may have once only let his family in, but now he has Ussurianth and all of Western Weyr to call home. This bronze will be a balm on the others mistrustful soul, whether Tostokki notices it or not. No man is an island, after all, and even the aloof and quiet Ussurianth needs to let others in. He will try to show Tostokki exactly how useful getting in on various social circles can be, though his rider might well have enough sense to keep Ussurianth's games or use of others in relative check. Tostokki's selfless nature will certainly even out his bronze's preference for doing things that only serve them; he will keep Ussurianth grounded, and keep him from turning into a complete self-serving beast.

Ultimately, Ussurianth sees more than hired muscle in the man; he sees a partner, a friend, an equal. Someone who the Weyr can come to depend upon, and together, they can do the most good. Where Tostokki might not have any drive or ambition, Ussurianth has long-term plans, and that means ensuring they are ready to fight Thread, and carve a name out for themselves. Tostokki's responsible enough to handle the future Ussurianth hopes to bring them, and together, they will be unstoppable.

Brown Damisath

Origin of Name: Damisath's name is taken from the Hausa word for leopard, damisa.

Inspiration: Leopard

The leopard (Panthera pardus) is one of the five extant species in the genus Panthera, a member of the Felidae. It occurs in a wide range in sub-Saharan Africa, in small parts of Western and Central Asia, on the Indian subcontinent to Southeast and East Asia.

Compared to other wild cats, the leopard has relatively short legs and a long body with a large skull. Its fur is marked with rosettes. It is similar in appearance to the jaguar, but has a smaller, lighter physique, and its rosettes are generally smaller, more densely packed and without central spots. Both leopards and jaguars that are melanistic are known as black panthers. The leopard is distinguished by its well-camouflaged fur, opportunistic hunting behaviour, broad diet, strength, and its ability to adapt to a variety of habitats ranging from rainforest to steppe, including arid and montane areas. It can run at speeds of up to 58 kilometres per hour (36 mph). Rosettes are circular in East African leopard populations, and tend to be squarish in Southern African and larger in Asian leopard populations. The fur tends to be grayish in colder climates, and dark golden in rain forest habitats. The pattern of the rosettes is unique in each individual.

The leopard is a solitary and territorial animal. Adults associate only in the mating season. Females continue to interact with their offspring even after weaning, and have been observed sharing kills with their offspring when they can not obtain any prey. They produce a number of vocalisations, including growls, snarls, meows and purrs. The roaring sequence in leopards consists mainly of grunts and is also called "sawing", having been described as resembling the sound of sawing wood

Personality: The first thing one knows about Damisath is that he's an intensely cunning brown. This dragon uses his brain more than his brawn to get out of any scrapes he might find himself in, and believes there's nothing that he can't overcome. His quick-wit and silver tongue means he can often talk himself out of danger, or, more than likely, persuade others to join him on some sort of fool-hardy mission. He might be small in size, but he knows he's smarter than half the dragons in the Weyr, much less Pern, and is too smart to ever confess such a thing to anyone but his rider.

Unfortunately, his clever mind means he finds many of his lessons, drills, and sweeps, boring. While he appreciates why they do what they do, he does often yearn for opportunities to use his keen mind. He will come to love fighting Thread because it certainly gives him a purpose, and he will be quite interested in taking the lead when allowed. That said, Damisath can prove impulsive, and difficult when he's at his worst. He will take risks simply because he feels it is a better way, or the payoff worthwhile; he will fight his rider if he thinks he knows best; he will disobey orders if he feels he has a better plan, gold commands or orders aside. Unfortunately, his rider will either need to have an iron will to keep the brown on task, or risk the consequences. And yes, there will be, consequences. Damisath might be clever, but he does not know everything, and might well be blind to a larger purpose, or a more intricate plan. If he's not careful, his impulsive nature could well get him into a jam he can't get out of.

Ultimately, Damisath can be a difficult dragon to control. He has brains but he lacks wisdom, and sometimes that means he needs to learn the hard way to learn at all. Thankfully, he has no trouble deferring to his rider, for His is the best of them all. That doesn't mean he won't periodically be stubborn or fight His on the issue, but so long as his rider is firm, Damisath can be kept in line. That said, it is not at all surprising for this brown to push, to test his limits, and to run wild when allowed. Thankfully, he's wise enough to know when to push and when to go along with some simpleton's plan but over-confidence in his intelligence could easily be his bane.

Overall, Damisath will likely learn to be ambitious, especially as he grows and learns more about the world. The higher up in rank he might rise, the more his intelligence can be put to good use, and the more he can do what he feels he was meant to do - lead. That said, the brown will need help along the way, and has a long way to go before he might ever be considered a good leader--especially if he continues to think he's the smartest dragon in the room. Even if he was, there is more to leadership and life than a healthy dose of brains. The question is whether or not Damisath will ever learn to realize it.

Positive Traits: Cunning, Daring, Self-Assured
Negative Traits: Difficult, Impulsive, Easily-Bored

Ace Flag Egg: A small egg that seems utterly, terribly, most magnificently... bored.
Adult Size: 31'
Physical Attributes: Damisath is a small brown, with a large head, and shorter limbs than some of his kind. That said, he is no light-weight. He is muscular, strong, and quite capable of holding his own in Threadfall--and against his larger brown and bronze peers.

Additional Notes: Damisath tends to enjoy high perches and, once able to fly, will enjoy settling often on the fireheights of the Weyr.

When it comes to flights, Damisath will enjoy participating in them frequently and often. Gold, green, or catching another color--it's all the same to this brown. He's a clever creature, who tends to use his small size to his advantage. He's fast and agile for a brown, but also has the power you'd expect, making him quite an asset to any Wing.

Impression Effect: A newfound confidence and swagger will have a profound softness on Xahtei's otherwise prickly exterior. With Impression, whether the young man realizes it or not, he will be more open to friendships or alliances among his weyrlings. He still can be reserved, certainly, but the sharp edge of his standoffishness will be significantly dulled.

Why Me? Xahteis is just the rider Damisath was looking for! Above all else, this brown dragon wanted someone that was just as intelligent, and just as brainy, as he! This brown will absolutely adore His' cunning mind and studious knowledge, and his keen wit will pair nicely with his rider's sharp mind. Together, there is nothing the two can't accomplish.

Additionally, Damisath's confidence and self-assured nature will easily wash over, and drown out, any of Xahteis' insecurities. There is no one on Pern as great as his rider, and Damisath will prove to him everyday just how perfect he is. He isn't as lowly as he believes himself to be, and this brown will pour nothing but support over any hidden wounds Xahteis might harbor. Even if he must chase those doubts away every day, for the rest of their lives, Damisath will never grow tired of doing so.

On the flipside, Xahteis is responsible enough to (hopefully) keep Damisath's more daring and bored side in line. This brown will try hard to do things his way, because quite frankly, he feels entirely superior to most dragons on Pern--but his rider's ability to see a task through to the end, and to follow orders, will help keep this brown alive. For indeed, there are some things in this world that could well cost them (or others) their lives, and Damisath doesn't always recognize the danger of his brash and impulsive actions. That said, not all of Damisath's impulsiveness leads to negative outcomes, and he will happily encourage, if not out right shove, Xahteis into situations that the man might not have otherwise allowed himself to experience.

Yin and yang, with a heavy dose of intelligence between them, if Xahteis can keep Damisath in line, there is no reason they won't both make immensely capable dragonriders.

Brown Issoireth
Written by Uta
Colored by Meepfur

User Image

Origin of Name: The four living species of the genus Lynx are believed to have evolved from the "Issoire lynx", which lived in Europe and Africa during the late Pliocene to early Pleistocene. Issoireth is named after this forebearer.

Inspiration: Lynx

A lynx is any of the four species (Canada lynx, Iberian lynx, Eurasian lynx, bobcat) within the medium-sized wild cat genus Lynx. The name lynx originated in Middle English via Latin from the Greek word λύγξ derived from the Indo-European root leuk- ('light, brightness') in reference to the luminescence of its reflective eyes.

Lynx have a short tail, characteristic tufts of black hair on the tips of their ears, large, padded paws for walking on snow and long whiskers on the face. Under their neck they have a ruff which has black bars resembling a bow tie, although this is often not visible.

Body colour varies from medium brown to goldish to beige-white, and is occasionally marked with dark brown spots, especially on the limbs. All species of lynx have white fur on their chests, bellies and on the insides of their legs, fur which is an extension of the chest and belly fur. The lynx's colouring, fur length and paw size vary according to the climate in their range. In the Southwestern United States, they are short-haired, dark in colour and their paws are smaller and less padded. As climates get colder and more northerly, lynx have progressively thicker fur, lighter colour, and their paws are larger and more padded to adapt to the snow. Their paws may be larger than a human hand or foot.

The smallest species are the bobcat and the Canada lynx, while the largest is the Eurasian lynx, with considerable variations within species.

The lynx is usually solitary, although a small group of lynx may travel and hunt together occasionally. The lynx inhabits high altitude forests with dense cover of shrubs, reeds, and tall grass. Although this cat hunts on the ground, it can climb trees and can swim swiftly, catching fish.

Personality: Issoireth is a brown who has swagger. Issoireth is a brown who has confidence. Issoireth is a brown who believes in himself a little too much, and is quite vocal about how amazing he happens to be. If the world can't see such a thing, he'll be the one to say it.

Unfortunately, Issoireth's confidence means he ca be more than a little obnoxious. While not every conversation in the room puts him right in the middle, he believes every dragon is either desirous of him, or jealous of him, or maybe a little of both. No matter how hard he might fail at something, you can bet Issoireth can turn it into a way he's won, even if it's pure delusion. He's known to be a smarmy b*****d, always just a little too smug, always just a little too "I-told-you-so" whether or not he did, in fact, tell you so. He's the sort who thinks he's got the biggest tail in the room, and he walks with the swagger of the most pretentious dragon on Pern. This quality can drive others away very quickly, or aggravate them, but thankfully, Issoireth isn't the sort to worry. They love him, really; he'd run away upset if he was someone else not nearly as amazing as him, too.

Issoireth definitely believes that the sun rises everyday just so the world can better see his good looks, and his guns. Yeah, that's right; he doesn't really know what a gun is, but he has two of them--this one is Oh, and this one is Yeah. Put them together and it says Yeah Oh... or Oh Yeah. And that is the way he walks through life, oh yeah!

All right, so where Issoireth got a heavy doze of self-love and self-confidence, he lacks entirely in intelligence and wits. He's not the sort of dragon that's very clever or bright, and others can easily run circles around him on that score. He's the sort of brown that's cute but dumb, and is too dumb to realize when he's being insulted, slighted, or otherwise put off. On the one hand, this works out great for all parties involved; Issoireth's feelings aren't usually hurt, mostly because he sees himself so high above others, and also, because he often doesn't understand the insult. His rider will definitely need to be the brains of the duo, especially when it comes to Threadfall and tactics. While Issoireth will be a decent fighter, he will be prone to flashy tactics, and taking foolish risks just to show off and look good.

He thinks he'll be an excellent Wingsecond or Wingleader, but his foolish and narcissistic ways means he'll wind up thinking of himself before his wingmates. This might well cause issues if his rider doesn't keep a firm grip on controlling his brown as they grow. What seems harmless as a weyrling might well cost someone their life if Issoireth isn't careful. Life's a lot harder and more complicated than this brown seems to understand; while he is relatively innocent, he's a living representation of leaping before looking. Hopefully, his rider will help account for these shortcomings.

Ah, but for all his failures, Issoireth is often a jolly-sort. He has a resilient temper, and doesn't get upset or angry often. When he does, it's likely when his rider is at risk--but his hide is thick, and he is secure in himself. He knows he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but it doesn't bother him in the least. What he lacks in brains he makes up for in brawn, and you've never seen a better looking brown than he!

Positive Traits: Confident, Secure, Patient
Negative Traits: Smarmy, Narcissistic, Foolish

Night Sky Egg: A medium sized egg that exudes nothing but good-vibes. Come check this one out!

Adult Size: 39'
Physical Attributes: Issoireth is large for a brown, though not the largest. He has shorter, squatter limbs, and his feet tend to be a bit larger than a dragon of his size -- proof, he claims, that he's still slowly growing into them. Something he'll always argue, even when he's clearly stopped growing! He's slow on the ground, and slow in the air, but has the solid stamina of a brown. All his bulk (and there is substantial muscle on him) does allow for him to take a good hit without flinching--physical feats are something he excels at.

Additional Notes: Issoireth loves flights... but seems to prefer males than ladies. While he might entertain a gold, or even a green just for the thrill, he tends to show off less for the ladies and more for the beautiful and handsome males. And why shouldn't he? He's the cat's meow--or should he say, me-Wow.

Impression Effect: Farellan will find that his obsessive-compulsive tendencies and need for things to be in certain places or order will be significantly lessened, almost immediately. It's possible Farellan himself won't notice the change, being so focused on weyrlinghood, but to those who know him they will see a significant drop in the habit. It doesn't have to go away completely--but the compulsion will be significantly lessened.

Why Me? Farellllllaaaaannnnnn! You are the one Issoireth has chosen, and you never, ever, have to feel like a disappointment again. Indeed, any self-doubt or uncertainty will be completely blown away by the amount of love and adoration Issoireth has for him. You are enough. There is no need to worry about being true to himself because he is nothing but perfection; how does he know? Because he's Issoireth, and he knows everything and out of everyone on those sands it was Farellan that was his most perfect One.

Farellan will find that Issoireth absolutely agrees about being the life of the party and if anyone were to shrug him off, or dismiss him, you can bet Issoireth will be there to object. Why shouldn't the world want Farellan around? He's perfect--take it from a dragon who knows firsthand, yeah? Should Farellan ever find himself down, or glum, he'll have Issoireth to lift him up and drive any doubt and insecurity away.

On the flip side, Farellan has learned when it's best to talk ad when it's time to shut up. That sort of sense is something Issoireth highly lacks. Farellan should be able to help keep his brown in his line, especially as he learns that Issoireth doesn't always know when to stop, or begins doing foolhardy things. Even when Issoireth does find himself under scrutiny or ire, Farellan has hearts enough to love this brown even at his intellectual worst; additionally, should his brown find himself being picked on, Farellan's defensive and protective nature will be good for such a sweet dragon. While Issoireth doesn't know it's something he needs, Farellan will be this brown's best defender, as well as the brains of the duo. Issoireth will come to depend on his riders input, indubitably.

They're both just a little absent minded, but a hundred percent perfect for each other. If Farellan wanted to become a dragonrider, he just found himself with the best brown of the bunch! The skies the limit, and no matter how high up in rank Farellan wants to go, Issoireth will take them there with style.

Brown Yoneth

Origin of Name: Yoneth is named after the famous Irimote cat Yon. Yon was hit by a car on August 6, 1996 then rehabilitated at the Iriomote Wildlife Conservation Center. He died on April 9, 2011 at the estimated age of fifteen years and one month, the longest confirmed lifespan of any Iriomote cat.

Yon was permanently handicapped after his accident; his left paw was paralyzed, and he tended to move towards the right.

Yon was the first Iriomote cat to be kept for an extended period of time, the only to be saved after an accident, and the first to go through rehabilitation. Other Iriomote cats that were rescued either died immediately or shortly after being brought in for care. Additionally, though he was never returned to the wild, his care and life in captivity means he's the bst example of the cats' natural behavior. Due to difficulties observing them in the wild, and very few cases of the cats being cared for by people, the records of his health care will help injured and sick Iriomote cats in the future.

Inspiration: Iriomote Cat

The Iriomote cat (Prionailurus bengalensis iriomotensis) is a subspecies of the leopard cat that lives exclusively on the Japanese island of Iriomote. It has been listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List since 2008, as the only population comprises fewer than 250 adult individuals and is considered declining. As of 2007, there were an estimated 100–109 individuals remaining.

Iriomote consists predominantly of low mountains ranging 300–460 m (980–1,510 ft) in elevation with sub-tropical evergreen forest, including extensive belts of mangrove along the waterways. It is the smallest habitat of any wild cat species in the world. They prefer areas near rivers, forest edges, and places with low humidity. Iriomote cats are terrestrial, but climb trees, go into the water and also swim. They are nocturnal and especially active during twilight hours. During the daytime, they sleep in tree hollows or in caves.

Iriomote cats are usually solitary. Their home range varies seasonally and also individually, and is smaller during the mating season. The cats are also territorial. Home ranges of males and females overlap, and one to two females live within a male's home range. Typically, home ranges of same gender cats will not overlap, but partial overlaps are seen. Often, these small overlaps are hunting grounds. It is thought that they patrol their territories during three to four days, marking and hunting as they go.

Young male Iriomote cats and some adult cats are transient, wandering over the island and waiting for an open home range slot that they can occupy by marking this area. Female cats allow their young to stay in their own home range and mark a new territory once the next breeding season comes.

Personality: You will never find a more honest dragon than Yoneth--and that, in itself, is often a problem. This brown dragon has a tendency to speak his mind freely, openly, and doesn't pull his punches when it comes to the truth. If you don't want his honest opinion than you had better not ask! Of course, Yoneth doesn't mean to be cruel with his words, but he can be quite careless as far as feelings go. His need to speak the truth, married to his natural practicality, means that feelings aren't often part of his equation.

This isn't to say he's heartless, not at all! Yoneth knows love through his rider, and adores them above all else; he knows pride through his Weyr; he knows duty thanks to the return of Thread. This dragon has feelings, he just tends to be less emotional than some. At his best, his presence could be considered calming, at least when he's inclined to offer assurance or peace to another. While some of his clutchmates might be prone to uncertainty or anxiety, Yoneth is always a steady presence and doesn't get overly upset or stressed. When things go bad, Yoneth can usually come through with a clear head and can be leaned upon by those who get tangled up in panic; it is a rare instance indeed when Yoneth is unsure of himself. Even as a hatchling, this brown has always been centered and calm. He is a brown who knows his place in the world, and knows what he can offer Pern. That said, his rider will know that there are gentle and tender hearts deep within the brown; he just isn't always great at showing them so readily.

A solemn character, this brown tends to be on the serious side. He has a good heart, but isn't known to be the warmest of beings. Yes, he is reliable, but his practicality almost goes too far, and keeps him a touch too serious. No one ever promised you a rose garden, and he isn't afraid to say as much. Life is tough, and Yoneth seems to wear the weight of it upon his shoulders. He isn't here to be sweet, or adorable; he is here to fight Pern's ancient enemy, and to ensure his rider and he succeed in their duties. This attitude, along with a carelessness of others feelings, means he can drive away friends or allies; or hurt those he cares about most. He doesn't know how to be tactful and certainly doesn't know how to curb his tongue. His rider will need to try to help him navigate the waters of when to speak, and when it's best to say nothing at all. His rider will also come to know that sometimes, Yoneth's solemn nature, does weigh heavy on the brown, who might quietly ache to be accepted for who he is as a whole.

Yoneth is also known to be quite territorial. Western Weyr is his home, and that will never change. There is no place else in the world he would deign to be, so if his rider wishes to leave the Weyr or transfer out, they will find firm and potentially aggressive resistance. Once assigned his own ledge or wallow, you can bet Yoneth will be quite vocal about it being his. His weyr, and you had better have an invitation to perch upon it, lest face his ire. This brown, for all his practicality and steady nature, does not often like to share. While he might be convinced to do so, he will do it grudgingly, and likely drive others out as soon as he's able. When it comes to outsiders and individuals who aren't loyal to Western Weyr, Yoneth looks upon them with great suspicion and mistrust.

Any mates he might take on as an adult might well find themselves run out of his weyr, because it is HIS, not theirs. It would take a true love to open him up to the idea of sharing. His carelessness with others feelings might mean he unintentionally breaks hearts or turn others off by being too honest or forthright. Additionally, should anyone start looking at his rider too closely or as a long term interest, will find a very unhappy and snarling brown.

Positive Traits: Honest, Practical, Steady
Negative Traits: Territorial, Careless, Solemn

Nanner Egg: A small egg that seems to exude a calm air about it.

Adult Size: 30'
Physical Attributes: Yoneth is quite small for a brown, with a delicate frame to match. He's built more like the greens and blues of the Weyr than the heavier bronzes or larger browns. He is thin and sleek, and prone to under-eating; his rider will need to ensure this picky eater is actually eating enough!

Additional Notes: Yoneth is particularly fond of sea wherries. While mountain wherries tend to be more common in in the Weyr, due to a perceived better flavor, Yoneth will always have a taste for the rarer selection.

When it comes to flights, Yoneth is much more swift and agile. He'll likely have a preference for chasing the smaller greens than golds. Not only are they often substantially larger and heaver than him, but he will struggle to keep up with long flights. Territorial, Yoneth tends to dislike heavy competition, and if he is the chosen suitor, he will likely not wish to share them.

Impression Effect: Vesden will find that from the moment Yoneth chose him, he will stand taller, have renewed and even doubled confidence, and find that any doubts or worries he had about his sexuality, or how others perceive him, will be melted away by nothing but unending support. Yoneth will be his pillar in all things, and will keep him shielded from the world's scorn.

Why Me? Vesden's innate practicality is what initially drew Yoneth's interest. This brown liked that Vesden is a bit more realistic about the world; no one will simply give them what they want, they must work hard to earn it. Nothing in life comes free, after all, and Yoneth appreciates that his rider has come to understand such things and lives with a more realistic ideal. This brown dragon will come to enjoy discussing the world with His, ever interested in seeing how close their perspectives match, and having intellectual conversations when their views cross. Vesden's steady presence matches well with Yoneth's own, and both can compliment one another nicely. When Yoneth is feeling particularly territorial or aggressive due to someone stepping into his space, Vesden can better temper his brown, or at least be a voice of reason; on the flipside, when Vesden begins to worry about things getting done right, or begins to get overly fussy, Yoneth's steady presence can hopefully soothe such woes.

Vesden was exactly the sort of individual Yoneth craved. Vesden's compassionate nature will be a good influence on Yoneth, who has always struggled to mince his words or views of others. His rider will be able to help balance Yoneth's careless attitude, and bring warmth to an overly-serious and overly-practical dragon. Vesden will help draw a more caring side out of Yoneth, even as Yoneth can be truly himself around His without judgment or ire. Yoneth knows he isn't always everyone's favorite dragon, primarily due to his overly-honest nature; but Vesden will never turn him away, and Yoneth will never let the other down. Never will Vesden need to feel scorned again, for his Yoneth will be at his side, forever and for always.

Blue Citrath
Written by Mr Cheri
Colored by Meepfur

User Image

Origin of Name: Citrath, from the Sanskrit word citra, meaning "variegated, adorned, painted," from which the Hindi cītā is derived. The common name for the cat cheetah comes from the Hindi term.

Inspiration: Cheetah

A member of the subfamily Felinae, of the genus Acinonyx, cheetahs have been kept by nobility for thousands of years. Traditionally used to hunt game, cheetahs show little aggression towards humans. They can be tamed, a lengthy process which can take up to a year, and trained to hunt alongside their human partners. In Egypt, cheetahs were given bejeweled collars, and kept as pets by the Pharaoh and his royal family.

Cheetahs are a large cat capable of purring as the smaller cats do - on inhalation and exhalation. There are only a few of the large cats that are capable of this, such as the cougar and the clouded leopard. They possess an ossified hyoid apparatus, and are therefore capable of purring but not roaring, as the larger cats do. They make a variety of sounds, however, including chirping, churring, moaning, growling, yowling, bleating, and several sounds characteristic to mother-cub interactions.

They are the fastest land animal, capable of accelerating up to a top speed of approximately 70 miles per hour, with a typical hunting speed of 40 miles per hour. Cheetahs are not capable of maintaining such speeds for long periods, but show considerable skill in hunting, shared between male and female cheetahs alike. Female cheetahs are solitary, rearing their cubs alone, but male cheetahs form groups called coalitions. In spite of their territorial nature, male cheetahs are friendly and may be sociable toward one another in the wild.

Personality: From the bottom of his hearts, this little blue wants nothing more in the world than to be loved. Painfully aware of his inadequacies, especially when contrasted with his more noble brethren, Citrath longs desperately to be accepted and part of a group. To be treated as though his presence is wanted. But oh! Should it become clear that it is not (and Citrath's idea of what makes that clear is very broad,) he will retreat to lick his wounds and no doubt cry a little bit to his rider. His hearts are very tender and easily broken, and unfortunately he's a bit too trusting in nature. He puts himself out there, his delicate hearts up for the taking... and that opens them up to being shattered.

Once he has found some slight security, Citrath will pile love and affection upon anyone who dares to approach him. He most ardently desires to be among his family, and to be useful to them. He'll listen to anyone's woes with a seemingly endless supply of patience. This tact has not necessarily won him the respect of some of his fellows, but at least they seem to like him, overall? Gentle to a fault, he would never say an unkind word, and if he were to discover that something he has said has hurt someone else he would be deeply ashamed.

Easily spooked, he will flee from confrontation. He cannot abide arguments and dissent, and will hide away if he has to until it is over. If forced to deal with it, he will sit, shell shocked, throughout a bitter argument. It would be as though his tongue were wooden - suddenly unable to use it for anything useful, he'd sit in sad silence instead. Poor Citrath was not made for such harsh things, and is not prepared at all for them. Conflict turns his stomach. If someone wanted an easy target for a cruel joke, they need look no further. This devoted darling would not even consider that another might be so unkind.

He abhors situations where he is expected to take strong initiative. He isn't ready and doesn't want it. He would so much rather acquiesce to another's will - oh please, surely someone else has better ideas! He cannot handle it. Doesn't want to say a wrong word or do a wrong thing, and what if everything he does is wrong? Surely someone else would do a better job, and he'd much prefer to just... to just follow someone else. Please, don't ask him to do more than he's told. He just wants to do his own thing, to do what's expected of him, and not make a fuss.

Positive Traits: Sweet, gentle, affectionate
Negative Traits: Nervous, overly trusting, diffident

Gay Flag Egg: This small egg really wants to meet you... but it's having vapors right now. Oh Faranth! So many people!

Adult Size: 23'
Physical Attributes: A tiny, delicate Blue with relatively long legs. He is quite lovely, but very shy, and inclined to be skittish, so good luck looking long at him. This sweet boy is certainly eye catching, built for speed and not endurance in any capacity.

Additional Notes: More than likely the fastest blue that has been recently clutched at Western Weyr. Makes up for his swiftness by having poor stamina, and therefore tires easily. Would very, very much like a boyfriend, and would only join a green Flight in an effort to either catch himself a man or be caught by one, if the green in question were understanding. Also would like a Flight just for the thrill of the chase, even if he wouldn't last long. Has romantic hearts and would dearly love to find that one special someone. Very likely to fall in love with a series of brothers during the latter parts of Weyrling training as a result. He adores his twin sister to distraction, and will cling onto her if allowed.

Impression Effect: Where before Hyseren was charming, now he is exceptionally compelling. Like so many riders before him, he possesses a larger than life quality. Consider this at least +10 charisma. Watch out, world! He may also develop a deeper appreciation for men than he ever had before, given Citrath's leanings.

Why Me? Hyseren caught Citrath's eye from the very first. From his handsome face, to his sheer confidence and protective nature, the little blue could not resist. What Hyseren is lacking in his bed partners, he will certainly find in Citrath, for the blue is an utterly devoted darling. Inclined to be clingy, Citrath will lean heavily upon his rider. Thankfully, Hyseren is more than confident enough for the both of them. Yet the man will never, ever be alone with Citrath at his side. The dramatic but amiable blue has all of the love in Pern to share with Hyseren, and share he will.

Blue Cucuaranath

Origin of Name: A cat of many names, the puma is also known as the cougar, panther or mountain lion. Cucuaranath is inspired by the etymology of one if its names: cougar. Cougar is borrowed from the Portuguese çuçuarana, via French; the term was originally derived from the Tupi language.

Inspiration: Puma

In general the size and coloration of the cat varies greatly across its range, which stretches from the south west of Canada down the western states of North America and throughout most western parts of the South American continent. In the north of its range and in higher mountainous regions the pumas coat is generally longer to provide additional protection against the extremes in temperature – the color of the fur varies from slate grey, through yellow buff to light reddish brown. In appearance the puma has a small, broad head with small rounded ears, a powerful body with long hind legs and tail, which is tipped with black. The puma can be found in varying habitats from the mountain forest, up to around 16,000 feet to lowland swamp and grasslands.

Like almost all cats, the puma is a mostly solitary animal. Only mothers and kittens live in groups, with adults meeting rarely. While generally loners, cougars will reciprocally share kills with one another and seem to organize themselves into small communities defined by the territories of dominant males. Cats within these areas socialize more frequently with each other than with outsiders

The puma hunts alone, by day or night and will cache its food, if large enough, in dense undergrowth, returning to it over several days. Comparable in size to the leopard, the puma is big enough to tackle larger prey such as domestic cattle and horses, for which it has earned a bad reputation with livestock farmers, as well as wild deer, sheep, rodents, rabbits, hare and beaver. In hunting the puma uses the strength of its powerful hind legs to lunge at its prey with single running jumps that can reach in excess of 40 feet

Pumas are thought to be one of the most adaptable of felines on the American continents, because they are found in a variety of different habitats, unlike other various cat species

Personality: Cucuaranath is a blue that has no problem fitting in no matter the company. He's the sort of blue who can make friends with just about anyone; if they look down upon the blues and greens of the world, he's happy to play the role of respectful and simple blue. If he's around the metallics, he can happily fawn and coo as their egos might need; if he's around someone who is down he can be the sympathetic ear or good-humored distraction. Honestly, Cucuaranath is an adaptable creature, who doesn't mind going with the flow, and fitting in with whatever majority (or minority) is loudest. While this can give the appearance of being wishy-washy, Cucuaranath doesn't seem much to mind. Minding what others think of him is terribly boring, and also, way too much trouble. And this blue doesn't like to bother with things that are too troublesome or too exhausting.

Some might call Cucuaranath easy-going, and he is! Criticism and upsets wash over him like water on a sea-wherry. When plans change, that's fine. Someone changes their mind? No problem. He's the sort of blue who goes where the winds take him. On the other hand, sometimes Cucuaranath is considered too carefree. Things get bad, and he tends to shrug those things off, too. He doesn't always understand why others get upset; doesn't always understand why a change of plans is a big deal. He's not heartless, he just doesn't see why people worry or fuss or put so much energy into things that are out of their control or out of their hands. The world needs to relax... and Cucuaranath is there to ensure they do just that.

This can give the blue a bit of a bad reputation. He is known to be a bit irresponsible. He's not the sort to rush any task. He'll always look for an easier path, even if it's not the right path; and he'll always try to cut corners to get the job done. It will be up to his rider to make sure Cucuaranath actually does what he says he'll do; sometimes the blue might be on a task to find someone, and gets distracted by a nice sunny ledge, and the temptation of a good nap. When confronted by others, the blue won't worry much about it. If the message was that important, surely, it would have been given to someone else to deliver.

Despite his flaws, Cucuaranath is a good-hearted beast. He is always happy to share his time, his ledge, his wing, his kills, with anyone who might wish it. He's not a greedy blue, and will always listen to his clutchmates and friends. Sometimes he'll impart his no-worries wisdom, while other times he'll offer comfort in a shared meal, or a good snuggle. Sure, he's lazy, and not known to make extreme effort in any situation, but his intentions are good. Additionally, he has no fuss or fight no matter how the chain of command, or his position within the Weyr, changes. Politics is just too much work, and Cucuaranth would much rather no worry about it!

Positive Traits: Adaptable, Easy-Going, Generous
Negative Traits: Carefree, Lazy, Irresponsible

Hot Pink 80s Egg Those who gather around this small egg will feel themselves begin to unwind. Take a load off, and hang out with it!

Adult Size: 29'
Physical Attributes: Cucuaranath is a larger sized blue, though not the largest they come. He's a bit heavier than some of his more agile counterparts, built more powerfully, with muscle beneath a soft layer of fat. His hind legs are particularly strong, making it easy for the blue to launch from a sitting position; unfortunately, his size does mean he's a bit slower while on air. His stamina is solid, but he'll never be as fast a flyer. Zooming and zipping takes more energy than Cucuaranath would care to exert; instead, he prefers to fly as smartly (and lazily) as possible--preferring to glide and catch thermals than put in more effort than necessary.

Additional Notes: Cucuaranath will never be fast for a blue, but he makes up for it by tiring less easily than some of his kin. He also will prove to have an exceptionally long flame, which will help him catch Thread should laziness, or slower speeds, might otherwise have him miss. His rider will need to ensure Cucuaranath is prodded to exercise, otherwise he'll struggle when it does come time to fly.

As for flights, it would take a might special someone indeed to get Cucuaranath roused from his ledge. He doesn't chase often, but when he does, it's because whoever is Rising is worth the effort. High praise from such a laid-back blue.

Impression Effect: Xanael is going to walk with a lot more confidence. Almost immediately, a portion of his worries are simply going to vanish. What does he have to worry about now that Cucuaranath is at his side? While he obviously won't be impervious to worries, and will still likely have bad days, the edge will be taken off significantly.

Why Me? Xanael was a perfect match for the easy-going Cucuaranath. Where Xanael is full-to-the-brim with worries, this blue will be an immediate balm to such an anxious heart. Easy-going and relaxed, this blue will be there to help encourage his rider to relax, and to send him soothing feelings when Xanael's worries start to really take hold. This blue dragon knows life isn't easy or perfect, but his carefree attitude is there to temper Xanael's more uptight feelings.

On the flip side, Xanael will find that this blue won't necessarily worry about any secrets he wishes to keep; nor will he be overly upset or concerned if Xanael starts pocketing things that aren't his. He's not a particular judgmental creature, and will accept him for who he is. That said, where Xanael is known to take things that might not be his, Cucuaranath has a very generous heart. So much so, he'll likely take whatever Xanael has snatched and give it to the original owner, or at least someone who thinks they could use it. The more Xanael takes, the more Cucuaranath will give away.

Where Cucuaranath is known to be extremely lazy, Xanael is noted to be hardworking, which should hopefully help the two stay balanced. Xanael can ensure that Cucuaranath is keeping up with his lessons and development, while Cucuaranath will be there to make sure Xanael doesn't turn into all work and no play. While there certainly might be growing pains, once these two find a solid rhythm, they will be found to be dependable and reliable wingmates.

Blue Maracajath

Origin of Name: In some Spanish-speaking countries, the jaguarundi is also called gato colorado, gato moro, león brenero, tigrillo, and leoncillo. It is also called gato-mourisco, eirá, gato-preto, and maracajá-preto in Portuguese. Maracajath's name is inspired by these alternative names.

Inspiration: Jaguarondi

The jaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouaroundi) or eyra is a small wild cat native to southern North America and South America. It has short legs, an elongated body, and a long tail. The ears are short and rounded. The coat is without spots, uniform in color, with, at most, a few faint markings on the face and underside. The coat can be either blackish to brownish-grey (grey morph) or foxy red to chestnut (red morph); individuals of both morphs can be born in the same litter. The two color morphs were once thought to represent two distinct species: the grey one was called the jaguarundi and the red one was called the eyra.

The jaguarundi occurs from southern Texas and coastal Mexico in the north, through Central and South America east of the Andes, and as far south as northern Argentina. In 2015, it has also been recorded in Cerro Largo, Uruguay. Its habitat is lowland brush areas close to a source of running water, including dry thorn forest to wet grassland. While commonly inhabiting lowlands, it has been reported at elevations as high as 3,200 m (10,500 ft). Occasionally it also occurs in dense tropical areas.

Jaguarundis are primarily diurnal, being active during the day rather than evenings or night. They are comfortable in trees, but prefer to hunt on the ground. They will eat almost any small animal they can catch, typically catching a mixture of rodents, small reptiles, and ground-feeding birds. They have also been observed to kill larger prey, such as rabbits, and opossums; relatively unusual prey include fish and even marmosets. Like many other cats, they also include a small amount of vegetation and arthropods in their diets.

Although they seem to be somewhat more gregarious than many other cats, willing to tolerate the close presence of other members of their species, in the wild, they are generally encountered alone, suggesting a solitary lifestyle. Jaguarundis make an unusually wide range of vocalisations, including purrs, whistles, yaps, chattering sounds, and even a bird-like chirp.

Personality: Maracajath is the sort of blue dragon who does nothing quietly. He is the sort of blue who is bold, ambitious, and above all else, dramatic. This is the sort of blue who feels the skies the limit, and he is here to claw his way up to the top! This blue dragon has the ambition of a bronze, and he has every desire to prove himself as a Someone and a Big Deal. Rest assured, he's bold enough to have no trouble talking-the-talk and walking-the-walk; does everyone in the room know who Maracajath is? Because he's kind of a big deal...

Maracajath is the sort of blue who has no problems making a scene, because he is more than a little dramatic. When something doesn't go his way, he has no trouble puffing out his chest, spreading his wings, and making sure every rider, dragon, and flit in the area knows he's upset! If ever his pride (or hide) is wounded, you can bet he will make sure everyone knows it, and that he should be tended to by the best Healers on Pern! He's the sort of blue who has delusions of grandeur, thinking that he really, truly is a Somebody of Importance. He believes it, and will make sure his rider confirms it! Best blue on Pern, best blue ever.

One might think he was clutched with the brain of a pompous bronze for all he makes a show of himself.

Ah, but Maracajath isn't just bluster. He's a blue who is bold and isn't the sort to be easily held back. When volunteers are needed, he will be the first to chime in, regardless of how his rider feels; he will strive to be the swiftest, most agile, and most impressive blue the Weyr has ever seen. He's not against hard work, provided it all goes towards bettering himself. He wants to lead a Wing all his own, and might be eyeballing the title of Weyrleader. And why shouldn't he? He is a star, baby... The world had better watch out! Work aside, this blue dragon isn't afraid of cozying up to any metallic, or greeting outsiders with all the praise the deserve. He knows how to schmooze, and his taste for the dramatic can often be used to entertain and delight others. He's soundly creative, and style is something Maracajath knows well.

Ah, but when things don't go his way, or should his rider (or someone else) ever put him in his place, you can bet this blue knows how to throw a terrible tantrum. Always up for dramatics, he will make a scene, and then, after he's certain he's proven his point, will go into a deep sulk. He will refuse to see others, refuse to speak to his rider, and generally bemoan his fate and his wounded ego or pride. When things don't work out like he wants, he becomes insufferable. Once his pouting is done, he will tell any and all about how hard his life happens to be, never mind what issues they might be going through. Ah, but thank goodness, Maracajath's rider can usually tempt the other out of his foul mood by a bit of ego stroking, and a lot of love.

Ultimately, though a handful, there is real potential in Maracajath... He just needs to grow up. It's possible, with a lot of time and hardwork, Maracajath well could find himself in charge.

Positive Traits: Bold, Ambitious, Industrious
Negative Traits: Self-Important, Sulky, Melodramatic

Funfetti Egg: A medium egg that draws the eye immediately. All eyes over here!

Adult Size: 26'
Physical Attributes: Maracajath is a small blue with short legs, and a long body. His tail is particularly long, giving him a very graceful appearance while in air. This blue is rather delicate and slight, which periodically is a source of aggravation. His neck is a bit shorter than it should be--with his tail making up for it, and then some!

Additional Notes: Maracajath thinks he's the bees-knees and will happily chase any green who shows any interest in him. Unfortunately, he has an expectation that he should win every time. When he loses, you can bet he'll throw quite the fit, and his rider will need to try to temper him. On the other hand, once Maracajath finds himself truly smitten with someone, his taste for the bold and dramatic means he won't hesitate to pull out all the stops when it comes to wooing a possible long-term lover.

He also has a tendency to be rather vocal. He'll purr, croon, trill, trumpet, and make loud noises, which only add to the melodrama he often displays.

Impression Effect: Once Jaiyce has Impressed, he'll find that the pain and hurt of the loss within his scarred heart is lessened considerably. Impression will wash those wounds away, and give the man a renewed confidence in life.

Why Me? Maracajath was immediately drawn to Jaiyce! Not only is the man the life of a party--something this egg often feels it should be!--but he also approved of the man's fierce attitude, and determined spirit. As Maracajath has plans to rise up and become something big, bold, proud, and loud, Jaiyce is just the sort of Candidate he'll need to help achieve those goals! This blue plans on leaning on Jaiyce's fierceness, and stubborn determination to get them to climb up the ladder of importance. Where Jaiyce might struggle getting to know others, or letting individuals in, Maracajath is here to help open those flood gates. There's no need for Jaiyce to ever fear rejection, or not being enough, again for he has the best blue on Pern to lift him up when life bring him down.

On the flipside, Jaiyce's good-humor will help settle Maracajath when he's at his absolute worst. There will be many days that Jaiyce finds his blue throwing himself into a heap, bemoaning some sort of slight, or loss. While it's hypocritcal of Maracajath (the blue knows it, too) it still won't stop him from making a scene, especially as he grows. That said, Jaiyce knows firsthand how difficult it is when life doesn't go the way you wish it, and he'll always be able to calm his blue down from whatever melodramatic display he's giving the Weyr; and if nothing else, his stubborn nature should be able to kick in and be used against Maracajath's own will. No matter how they might go head-to-head, Maracajath will always inevitably yield to his rider...even if he sulks pointedly about it.

One thing's for sure--when they're both on the same page, there is nothing these two can't accomplish. They're peas-in-a-pod, and no matter where they go, or what they do, Maracajath will always make sure the Weyr always has something to talk about!

Blue Moratath
Written by Mr Cheri
Colored by Smerdle

User Image

Origin of Name: Moratath, from the scientific name Pardofelis marmorata. The word pardofelis is composed of the Latin words pardus (pard), and felis (cat) in allusion to the spots of the type species, the marbled cat. Marmorata, from the Latin marmor (marble).

Inspiration: Blue Marbled Cat

Genetic studies of this cats blood serum, shows that it shares an identical karyotype with Lynx, Panthera and Uncia, leaving this cats evolutionary history somewhat of a taxonomic puzzle. Perhaps, this little cat is similar in form to the forest ancestors of the big cats some 10 million years ago (Collier and O’Brien, 1985). However, it may have also diminished in size more recently due to competition with other big cats.

The Marbled Cat is like a miniature version of the Clouded Leopard, weighing between 9-18 pounds and reaching lengths of 32-46 inches. It has thick, soft fur, which varies from brownish gray through yellow to reddish brown in color, and is covered in large blotches, which are paler in the center. There are black spots on its limbs and some black lines on the head and neck. The Marbled Cat has a short, more rounded head than other felines, with a wide forehead and large pupils. Like the Clouded Leopard, the Marbled Cat also has relatively enlarged upper canines. The tail is very long and bushy, and well adapted to its arboreal lifestyle. It’s arboreal adaptations suggest that it is probably the Old World ecological equivalent of the Margay.

The marbled cat occurs along the eastern Himalayan foothills and in tropical Indomalaya eastward into southwest China, and on the islands of Sumatra and Borneo. It is primarily associated with moist and mixed deciduous-evergreen tropical forests. Its distribution in India is confined to the north-eastern forests.

In eastern Nepal, a marbled cat was recorded for the first time in January 2018, outside a protected area in the Kangchenjunga landscape at an altitude of 2,750 m (9,020 ft).

In northeast India, marbled cats were recorded in Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, Dampa and Pakke Tiger Reserves, Balpakram-Baghmara landscape and Singchung-Bugun Village Community Reserve in Arunachal Pradesh between January 2013 and March 2018.

In Bhutan, it has been recorded in Royal Manas National Park, and in broadleaved and mixed conifer forests at elevations up to 3,810 m (12,500 ft) in Jigme Dorji National Park and Wangchuck Centennial National Park.

In Thailand, it was recorded in a hill evergreen bamboo mixed forest in Phu Khieu Wildlife Sanctuary.

In Borneo, it has also been recorded in peat swamp forest. The population size of the marbled cat is not well understood. Few records were obtained during camera-trapping surveys throughout much of its range. In three areas in Sabah, the population density was estimated at 7.1 to 19.6 individuals per 100 km2 (39 sq mi), an estimate that may be higher than elsewhere in the cat's range. In Kalimantan, marbled cats were recorded in mixed swamp forest and tall interior forest at altitudes below 20 m (66 ft) in the vicinity of Sabangau National Park between 2008 and 2018.

Personality: Moratath has a mind like a steel trap, and is very slow to forget anything. Naturally, this extends to grudges, as he'll have a tendency to remember, point by point, everything that someone has done to offend him at one time or another. That said, while he might hold grudges, he cannot be bothered to put considerable energy toward acting on them. After all, he has so many more important things to do than waste his time on so and so, even if they are a right prat.

His sarcastic wit tends to get him into a bit of trouble, and he struggles to meet others on their own level. He doesn't want to be friends, but he knows that he must. Moratath isn't heartless, he's just... touchy. Difficult to get to know. Having been raised with some particularly arrogant siblings, he isn't overly fond of metallic dragons as a general rule, and considers them to be little better than interfering busybodies, bullies, and snobs. Still, he is smart enough to know that they ultimately wield more power than Western pretends.

When he does form attachments with others, they tend to be strong and enduring. If someone is willing to put up with him long term, they are liable to stick around. Moratath will be likely be bemused by such a thing, and accept it out of surprise as much as anything else. However, he does feel deeply, even if he doesn't allow other dragons particularly close. He is capable of devotion, and is loyal when it comes down to it.

He would like to think that his capabilities more than make up for some of his less pleasant qualities, as he'll be good at tracking details mid-Threadfall. Nor is he likely to forget a drill that he's learned. If someone doesn't like him, they'll certainly find themselves in good company, for Moratath isn't warm to begin with. However snarky Moratath is, he'll never backtalk to a superior, as he is a bright dragon, at the end of the day. Western has won his loyalty for the long haul - even a brief brush with the High Reaches mentality was more than enough for him.

Positive Traits: Intelligent, memorious, loyal
Negative Traits: Acerbic, unforgiving, cold

??? Egg: This medium sized egg knows exactly what you're thinking, and isn't at all impressed.

Adult Size: 26'
Physical Attributes: A sleek, small to middling sized blue, Moratath has honed his body into the weapon that it should be. He is a fighting dragon, through and through, and looks the part. Although he will always be an intellectual, he believes that a healthy mind and body go hand in claw.

Additional Notes: Although he is standoffish and sharp tongued, Moratath nonetheless has a certain fondness for his sister, Shanath, even if he's a bit disgusted by her overwhelmingly positive demeanor and outlook on life. Still, it is merely a friendship, and a bit of a shallow one at the end of the day. He would rather spend his time with his rider than with his clutchmates, although he certainly will have to learn how to be social with other dragons in the Weyr. Inclined to be particular in Flights, he will only Chase or allow himself to be caught by what he considers to be the creme de la creme, and he doesn't care what gender they happen to be.

Impression Effect: Those who set eyes upon Astriana will find it difficult to overlook her hypnotic beauty. They won't necessarily be charmed by it, but she is a beautiful block of ice, just like the dragon she rides. She'll find it all the easier to turn her tongue around a clever phrase, and may not feel too guilty about using her tongue sharply, for Moratath is just as snarky.

Why Me? Beautiful, bright Astriana, Moratath will never need another lady as he needs you. He loves her deeply, in a way that he will never love another being. Between the pair of them it is truly a bonding of equals. From the very first, he saw her ability to cut with a turn of phrase, and it was certainly a match. But she can also teach him the value of respect. She can also show him that life is so much more than holding others at arm's length. Astriana need never again feel that she isn't in her element, and her confidence will shine, for Moratath believes in her. Her loyalty may in time grow to rub off on him, and teach him a thing or two. But in truth, they both have so much to learn, and Moratath cannot wait to get started.

Blue Rubiginth

Origin of Name: Rubiginth's name is taken directly from the Rusty-spotted Cat's scientific name: Prionailurus rubiginosus.

Inspiration: Rusty-Spotted Cat

The rusty-spotted cat ( is one of the cat family's smallest members, of which historical records are known only from India and Sri Lanka. It is the smallest wild cat in Asia and rivals the Black-Footed cat as the world's smallest wild cat.

Very little is known about the lives of these cats, although they are thought to be nocturnal. They have a reputation for being especially fierce hunters taking large prey, but their diet is likely to be small animals, and they are frequently killed for taking domestic chickens. Rusty-spotted Cats are accomplished climbers, and probably hunt in trees as well as on the ground. In Sri Lanka, they have been observed near termite hills, especially after a heavy rain, feeding on winged termites.

Personality: Rubiginth isn’t one much to talk about himself. In fact, this little blue is so allocentric, he’d much rather hear about you. Your life, your history, your funniest moments, your most embarrassing moments, your wishes, and your dreams. Anything you feel like talking about he’d love to listen to and will do so readily. His clutchmates will find him a reliable blue, always willing to take them under wing--particularly for a good chat.

He is in fact a greedy listener. Rubiginth wants to hear it all! Are you absolutely sure that’s all there was? You can’t think of any other details? Surely there’s one more bit? He has no problems trying to pry all the little details out of you; even if it makes you late for your next task. His rider will need to try to keep him on task, for this blue has no problem holding up any mission just to get to the end of a good tale.

There is no denying Rubiginth has a certain flare for the dramatic. He simply loves an exciting and intense story. Any story can be interesting with the correct telling. This blue has a powerful expressive 'voice' when he actually uses it, and he’s more than happy to teach you to use yours for the next time you need to tell an exciting story or to make a bland story thrilling. This includes vocalizations, such as growling, snarling, and crooning, and using his body language for emphasis.

For all his love of stories, this blue does have ambition. Rubiginth is one to aim high. He likes to be independent and not controlled by another. The best way to accomplish this would be to be Weyrleader, if the stars aligned themselves. However, he’d be willing to accept Wingleader or Wingsecond, and not be just some wingrider. With a motivated rider, Rubiginth could go far, or he could help light a fire under a more lazy rider. Besides, the best stories always have the best heroes, who (strangely enough) always seem to be in some sort of position of power. Why shouldn't he want to be on top? Western Weyr is just the right place for it, too.

Unfortunately, this blue might enjoy a good story, and have grand ambitions, but he may be accused of having narrow interests or being small-thinking. That doesn’t bother him. Nor will you get any sympathies when you fail at a task because you didn’t try hard enough. Rubiginth doesn’t really care to “broaden his horizons” so to speak. He likes what he likes and that’s enough for him. He isn't the sort of blue top lay the long-game, which can be a problem, especially if he does ever start working his way up the ladder of rank and power. But don't tell him that--he wouldn't listen anyway.

Through it all, this blue is obvious in his goals. It’s clear from the get go what he is after and that will never change. From the moment he hatched shell, there was no doubt this blue wanted more than what he was given.
There is more to his story, more to his riders, more for the two of them to gain. There is no beating around the bush or dodging the question with this blue. If he ever reaches the top, his goal will shift into keeping it all for himself and his rider.

Positive Traits: Dramatic, Independent, Allocentric
Negative Traits: Small-thinking, Greedy, Obvious

Shining Star Egg: A small egg that seems to exude a curious air about it. Why not come over and say hello?

Adult Size: 23'
Physical Attributes: A narrow muzzle gives him a bit of a sinister look, particularly if he’s after the full story. While he is tiny size for a blue, Rubiginth is lithe and will excel in turns. He is small, and devastatingly quick while on wing, ever able to avoid some of the trickier patches of Threadfall.

Additional Notes: Rubiginth has a good memory for those people who have multiple interesting stories; even to the point of being able to remember who told which story. His rider will likely be the only person who can temporarily divert the blue from his main goals, but only for a little while.

When it comes to flights, he will be a fierce competitor. His speed and agility will make him popular among the greens (and blues) of the Weyr. That's just as well for him, for he enjoys a good chase. Even if he loses, there's always a good story to be told.

Impression Effect: Upon Impression, Korbet has found himself a new addiction, and that happens to be his dragon! This is one high that isn't one that's going to go away, as the good feelings and newfound support will always be there, mind-to-mind and heart-to-heart. Ultimately, his addictive nature will be heavily turned down now that he's found his lifemate.

Why Me? There is no mind as fascinating to Rubiginth than that of his rider--Korbet. For a dragon who loves stories, Korbet is a match made beyond Between! Not only does he have quite the impressive imagination, but he's a storyteller as well. Rubiginth is going to want to know all about his stories, and will forever encourage His to take up the quill and to keep dreaming. These two will certainly be a creative duo, and Rubiginth will be there to ensure His doesn't keep running!

In fact, this blue has every intention of bringing Korbet up to the very top! The tenacity within the other's spirit will work well when paired with Rubiginth's will. This blue dragon has places to go, and he wonders if perhaps Korbet has been thinking about dragonriding all wrong. Not only can they now be heroes, which comes with its own sort of rush, but think of how much better their stories will be as they rise up in rank, first as Wingsecond, then Wingleader, than Weyrleader? Even if Korbet doesnt have much desire to lead, Rubiginth is independent enough to climb the ladder, and simply drag his rider along with him.

On the flipside, while this blue is known to be dramatic, and more than a little greedy, Korbet's empathetic nature will help temper him. Where Korbet can think of others and see things from their perspective, Rubiginth is certainly more narrow-minded. While he enjoys a good story, his sympathies for others can fall short.
