Physical Description: Between heavy dark brows that arch to the edges of his thin brown eyes and the thickly curled mass of long dark brown hair that frames his impish face, it isn't just his dark but profuse stubble that makes Xanael appear darker than his strongly tanned skin truly is. A roguish and often wicked grin is partial to running across his face often and the man lifts one heavy eyebrow enough that it's become almost an official expression of his annoyance or amusement, however his face is just as prone to looking serious, especially when things look grim. Not prone to doing much other than to tie the edge of his long hair together to keep it from getting in his way, his bangs brush over his eyebrows loosely if he can even be bothered to cut them, scruffy is probably the best description that anyone can think of for him. However his clothes are always in good order despite his physical appearance and they are cut to his muscled body so that they don't hinder his work or his above average height in any way. Hands and lower arms a litter of light scars from claws and teeth over the years that he does nothing to hide, his work has strengthened him and taught him a compassion that he never had as a young child.
Personality: A bright and hardworking young man that tries his hardest to see the bright side in everything no matter what happens, even though his own anxieties tend to drag him down to a place he isn't fond of. These could come from his father, who was never overly happy with him for choosing to work healing beasts rather than in a mine, but he will never admit to any of his multiple anxieties, which range anywhere from feeling like a failure to stress over the safety of his younger brothers. The outgoing part of his nature is usually a mask for these but some of the people in his life might notice that he isn't always smiling because he wants to.
If Xanael wants something he has a tendency to just take it, though he usually returns it once he's done using it for either inspiration or for whatever it happens to do it has gotten him in trouble more than once. While he acknowledges his own problems with this he hasn't really done anything to stop his habits unless his twin asks him to. If Mikhel asks him to do something he'll go above and beyond to make certain that he can do it or his brother can have it. That goes double for his younger brothers as well, if they want it he'll get it for them and if he can't get it he'll actually try and make it to varying degrees of success. Though all of his brothers tend to chide him for his borrowing habit he has yet to stop and actually think about how it might affect others.
Deep under all the anxiety he is a sweet man that enjoys spending time with animals and beasts of any type just as much as his own brothers, who may or may not liken him to the beasts that he enjoys the company of on more than one occasion. As a young boy he lacked the compassion that many considered necessary to deal with anything in a way other than anger and frustration, however once he began to work with his master that swiftly left him and his softer core was found hiding below the surface. Many tried to figure out why he had been that way and could only come up with his need to protect his brothers that made him appear angrier than he really was, but that is all in the past and Xanael's compassion is deep enough that he can see the good in just about any side presented to him.

History: Born a twin to the distant relative of a Lord Holder, Xanael and his brother Mikhel were spared working in the mine as young boys due to the relation but were hardly rolling in Marks or position. With older brothers and younger brothers to either side of them, the two were given crafts to fall into but were expected to view mining as their know all end all. Whether or not this settled with his brothers well, it did not sit well with Xanael at all and he kept his desires and dreams to himself against the suggestions of any that knew him, even bottling up his general personality into anger to keep it secret from his father. Never once did he willingly take to the craft of blacksmith, usually forced by everyone around him to do his due for the Hold against his will he would work the best that he could until the day that he finally found another option. The chance came not long after Mikhel began his apprenticeship in healing, leaving him behind covered in sweat and low key burns, when a beasthealer came through the Hold to see to a few sick runnerbeasts that had come down with something and were no longer able to hold their own. After hearing the beasthealer's intent to stay with the Hold for quite some time until the runners were back on their feet, Xanael pressured and harassed his father into allowing him to apprentice under the man rather than continue his grueling and mentally draining position as a blacksmith apprentice. Acquiescing to his son's desires, his father offered him to the man as an apprentice and he was thrilled to discover himself with the chance to spend more time with beasts of all types.
Already well into his apprenticeship with the master, his older brothers were Searched and gone to different Weyrs, little contact had between the family made it hard to know exactly where they had ended up or how they had fared against the huge dragons that Xanael always saw in the sky. Though deep down he wished that he would someday have the chance to fly on one of them, becoming a dragon rider was never a believable destiny to him with all the stories of deaths and the crushing feeling that came with aging out of Candidacy with nothing to show for the years of work. Instead he let beasthealing swallow him whole and walked the tables to Journeyman once he came of appropriate age, however he was not destined to leave just then to travel Pern healing beasts. Between the loss of his older brothers and the sudden death of his mother and their current Lord Holder the tensions in the Hold simmered just below the surface and Xanael quickly became protective of his younger brothers and twin. Leaving was not an option for him with them in danger, especially in the wake of their mother's confession of infidelity to their father, a confession that placed his small brothers straight in the crossfire the former Lord Holder's sons fought for control and could hardly do with more competition for their desired positions. With word sent to them from one of their older brothers, retained as a guard by the youngest of the squabbling sons, that a coup was well on it's way to upsetting the Hold's current workings, his father placed he and his twin in charge of their younger brothers, afraid that they might be discovered and placed in danger.
With contact from their older brother, a dragon rider at Western Weyr, their father ordered them to take the boys as far away as they could get and the western continent seemed as good an option to the twins as any. Xanael's plan was to deliver his youngest brothers to their older brother Ha'rel and then return to the Hold to see to their father's own safety rather than theirs, but this as not to be. Just as they were about to begin their passage to the continent across the sea disaster of another sort struck and stalled their hopes dead. Thread decimated the seaside hold and their boat was forced back to port, crippled by the falling silver tendrils of an ancient enemy many had believed gone forever. Stuck at the hold, the twins did the best that they could to work and earn marks for food to keep them afloat as they waited for Pern to settle into a new routine, constantly worried that shadows from their recent past would follow them every day. Like his brother, Xanael took to helping heal any beasts injured in the first few weeks of the fall, earning what spare marks he could as a Journeyman and earning the respect of the people so devastated by the suddenness of the fall. It did him good to get out of his own head as well, stressed that they may never make it to the Western Continent and that Thread might eat their chances at life in the future, Xanael fell into his anxieties despite himself and was only pulled out of them by Mikhel when his twin informed him that he had earned enough Marks to book them passage.
Uncertain of their Hold's current status, having received no messages or information about it in months, the brothers finally set out for Western Weyr with the intent of finding their older brother and finally settling their younger brothers into safety.
