Name: Wren
Age: 16
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Craft: Apprentice Jewelcrafter
Rank: Candidate
Location: Western Weyr
Physical Description:
Standing at 5'4" tall, Wren is on the smaller side for an adult male. With a lithe figure, almost sylph-like, he borders on the edge of androgynous. His hair is long, falling to his shoulder blades and colored a pale blonde. Eyes of blue peer out from under long lashes, set against his face in an almond shape, with a slightly upturned nose. At the least, he is well toned, and tends well to his appearance. Generally, he is clad in darker colors, thinking it compliments his pale skin well. On his back shoulder is a tattoo in glittering gold ink that spans from the middle of his spine, up over his right shoulder, and a bit on to his chest.
Personality:
One thing that Wren was raised well with, and has had since birth, was a sharp mind. The boy is almost like a tactician, with a brain that is capable of understanding puzzling situations and coming up with a creative ending. He enjoys games of wit and playing word-games with other candidates when he gets a chance. He enjoys logic puzzles as well, spending his more private time creating small puzzles, to allow his own brain to get a moment's reprieve from going about a million miles a minute. He loves being given new challenges, and will often take on more difficult tasks, if only for the sake of not getting bored. This intelligence leads him to begin to stick his nose in to things...Anything. He is inherently curious, wanting to know everything about everyone, at every time. Mostly because people are curious. Their mannerisms and natures.
Wren is absolutely curious about anyone and anything. He wants to understand how things work and why, and wants nothing less than the absolute truth of things. His curiosity drives everything he does, from looking at everything during his duties, to poking people about their history. It means that he takes everything in to his own mind, figuring out whatever tasks he's given with clear devotion. Speaking of, there is nothing that Wren would not do for the people he cares about. Once you are within the boy's inner circle, he becomes as devoted to you as possible. He would happily take anything on for the people he loves so that they can be happy.
This leads to Wren being a bit intense. His emotions are always 0 or 100% and it's rare for them to be anywhere in between. With the fact that the jeweler follows his heart rather than his head, he can get in to a lot of trouble sometimes stepping in or up where he doesn't belong. He lets himself be led around by these emotions and this wears him out terribly quickly. He swears his perfectionism came from Jewelercraft, but anyone who's known him for a long time can say that it is what drove him to the work. Any tasks he undertakes is met with a scrutinizing eye.
He is insistent that he is allowed to look over whatever is before him, and will sometimes involve himself for hours to ensure that a task is done to absolute perfection. Not a spot is left, not a single piece out of place, when you allow Wren to REALLY get at something. He becomes hyperfocused and can get irritable when he feels ignored. With people, Wren does not like being left alone. In fact, if he finds a partner, they will find themselves with an emotionally clingy young man. He needs validation from the people closest to him, and will often beg for their attention if he feels he has been left alone too long.
Positive Trait List Intelligent, Curious, Devoted
Negative Trait List Intense, Perfectionist, Clingy
History:
He was the son of a courtesan and a Holder, that his mother kept secret from his father. The fact of the matter was the Wren was never in his mother's custody. She raised him only as long as it took to ensure that he would be healthy. If you asked the woman, she would tell you that it was because she felt she couldn't work with him hanging around her. So, when she met a rider in Ista, she passed him off to the Rider and his dragon, begging him to take it.
As such, Wren has been raised a Weyrbrat since he was about 2 turns old. Raised in Ista weyr, he was quick to make friends, and by the time he was 6 turns, he knew what his Craft would be. He fell in absolute love with. Smithcraft, focusing specifically on Jewelry. His hands began to work swiftly, and he fell absolutely in love, only spurred on by his father.
Shortly in to his seventh turn, they moved, the Weyrbrat flying with his father from Ista Weyr to Western. Sure, it was hard to leave everything behind, but he'd been 7. It hardly mattered. He dove in to his passion there, learning as much as he needed to in order to become as efficient as he could with the skill. It was barely in to his apprenticeship that he was called to be a candidate, and it was with eager excitement, at age 11, that he took to being more than just a Weyrbrat and apprentice. There was a new light and life to him in candidacy...at least until the thread came back recently.
Since the return, there is a tension between he and L'an as to him impressing a dragon. Wren is still intent on it, wanting to help like his father and the Green...even if L'an is hesitant.
