Card Tricks - It started as a way to pass the time; it's not like Dimitri has patients all the time. In the beginning when he was establishing his practice, he was a big fan of reading, but it's not as appealing to him as it used to be. Over time he shifted from fantasy to realistic fiction, biographies, and eventually found himself with a hobby book of card tricks. It was enough to catch his interest, finally, and so for now he's pretty invested in perfecting his trade. For now.
People Watching - To be truthful, Dimitri has always been like this, more the type to sit to a side and watch the goings on than to take part himself. It's not that he was incapable of holding conversations with people. He'd just prefer to watch and learn. In his own head, he likens this to an over-sized, slightly more entertaining ant farm, although he doubts anyone else would appreciate the analogy.
Adrenaline Junkie - For the fact that he has a decently successful dental practice, Dimitri would not say that he is satisfied with his life. Days are tedious. Interacting with people is trying and repetitive. Dimitri tried typical pastimes at first - biking, running, games, reading - but in the end, they did nothing to satiate the restlessness he felt. So in the past several years, he's turned to increasingly risky things to devote his time to on his days off: sky diving, BASE jumping, bungee jumping, even haunted houses, roller coasters, anything that could get his blood pumping and make him feel awake in a sleepy world. Nothing accomplishes this for long, so he's constantly in search of the next big thing that can thrill him.
Virtues:
Adaptable - If there's one thing that can be said for Dimitri, it's that few things leave him stumped; he rolls with almost any inconvenience that rolls his way with seemingly minimal effort, as though he can't be bothered to waste time being upset about it. Or maybe he appreciates the challenge in an otherwise mundane life. Either way, no one can say he isn't flexible.
Fearless - No matter what the challenge or how dire things may seem, Dimitri does not back down. He is very difficult (if not nearly impossible) to frazzle, much less to intimidate. This bleeds down into his professional reputation, since between this and his flexible nature make him a very reliable practitioner in a dental crisis.
Flaws:
Unsympathetic - It's not like Dimitri can't understand other people. That's not his issue, he's very capable of understanding. The problem is, he just doesn't care, and he has a very hard time pretending that he does. If there's a kid crying somewhere because they've just dropped their ice cream, he'd acknowledge it was happening and just keep walking.
Sadistic - It comes out in subtle ways. Dimitri might jab someone a little too hard with a needle when they need Novocaine. Or he might clean someone's teeth with a little more vigor than he needs. He'd been known to kick a cat when no one is looking, or bump someone's shoulder a little too hard when they pass each other on the street. All of this gives him quiet little thrills he's missing in life. It was worse when he was younger; while he's learned some impulse control to be able to maintain himself as a respectable person in society, privately, it's a struggle.
