Quote:
Sprigs of mistletoe dangle from various spots around the carnival and it becomes abundantly clear that most people are taking advantage of the fun holiday tradition, be it a cute peck on the cheek or an opportunity for some gross PDA. You happen to notice a crush or loved one standing under one of the sprigs and on a whim, you decide to adhere to timeless tradition and give them a kiss (even if it means mustering up your courage and getting over your shyness to make it happen). When you open your eyes, you soon realize... that wasn't your crush/loved one at all, but a total stranger! Oh no!

As promised, when it got later in the evening and a little less crowded, Lia returned to the carnival with her companion for the evening with one major difference. They were powered up. It wasn't to cause a commotion or to draw too much attention to themselves. It was just in the name of collecting some energy for quota and oh---sticking people under the mistletoe with the clown.

For amusement.

Lyonsite was all swagger as they approached the outskirts of the carnival, and was pleased to note there weren't any other auras around. The lieutenant reached up and swiped the first sprig of mistletoe, grinning as she held it out to the lieutenant beside her. "I'm ready for some laughs, Chuckles."

Mason wasn't sure why he was at the carnival. He had promised to go on a date with Nora today, and his ditzy older girlfriend had run off as soon as they got here. He had gone around looking for her and then immediately gave up.

Unlike Nora's sense of him, Mason didn't really have the I CAN FIND NORA ANYWHERE mindset. He had the, she'll come back around, and if she doesn't, I'm going home.

He shuffled around in his back, pulling out a workbook for class and chose a spot away from the crowd, so he didn't hinder the flow, and he could be less bothered.

His glasses were adjusted as he took in his surroundings of mistletoe and christmas and carnival and sighed. He'd work on his book for just a little bit and then he'd look for his girlfriend again.

There was a popular saying: like a kid in a candy shop. Penkisite had never been a big fan of candy, admittedly. Back when he'd been a kid, before the filters of adulthood and 'acceptable' behavior had been properly put into place, one of the first things his parents had cut was sugar. He'd gotten into it here and there out of spite, willful and resistance to any limitation, but less so because he loved sugar and more because he didn't want to be told no.

He imagined, though, that it felt something like this. Walking into a cluster of people like this and feeling a complete lack of powered auras besides the support of a Lyon by his side, holding out mistletoe and spurring him on. Already, there was laughter bubbling on his lips as he snatched it, all the boredom from before gone and died away into raw enthusiasm.

"Happy holidays, " he droned out mockingly, and immediately beelined for targets. One after the other, he grabbed people, roaring with laughter as they recoiled in horror from his painted lips, gathering an ever increasing store of energy for reasons he didn't really comprehend (and didn't really care to learn - it didn't matter why, it just mattered that he could).

Lyon was just along for the ride right now. She followed in the clown's wake, laughing equally as hard if not harder at the reactions people were having at being suddenly face to face under some mistletoe with the lieutenant. Her cheeks and her stomach were starting to hurt, but regardless she was also at work draining energy from people who would bump into her in their attempts to escape Penikisite. She also siphoned energy from people who were gawking at the scene the other was causing.

All in all, it was an incredibly lucrative collection process---in addition to being just downright hilarious.

They worked their way through the carnival, and at some point, as Lyonsite looked around, she caught sight of a kid a bit outside of the festivities. He was bent over and seemed to be writing in something? Huh. The woman tilted her head, and before she gave it much thought, she found herself veering from following behind Peni to approach the boy. It wouldn't hurt to make sure he was okay---after all, who came to a carnival and just sat to the side?

"Hey, kid!" She greeted as she approached Mason, energy orbs absent, as she had sent them to Negaspace already. "You okay?" The woman towered over the sitting boy, but everything about her posture was open and friendly as she smiled down at him. "This is a carnival why are you---"

She paused as she caught a good look at his book.

"Good grief." Lyonsite reached and pulled it away from the boy, and looked it over. "Are you doing homework?" She then couldn't help but laugh. "Man, these work books take me back---" The woman looked over the page, and then showed the book to the boy.

"By the way, you didn't carry the right number on this problem right here, so the solution is wrong."

There was an uproar happening in the area he was at, people either running away pissed, happy or terrified. He could make out in the chaos, some kind of clown running around with a balloon and kissing up a storm and decided it had nothing to do with him.

Unless it came over.

Until then, he was treated instead with something even more annoying. A tall wild haired woman coming over. "Hello." He was polite but didn't want more of her attention. Except he didn't really have a choice as she pulled his book away.

There was a longest suffering of a sigh as she took it and he adjusted his glasses. "I'm here because my girlfriend insisted and she's off gallavanting doing something that she does." He reached for the notebook and looked at the problem she pointed out.

"Fantastic." He said mostly with sarcasm before fixing it and closing the book. "You with the kissing clown over there?"

The clown in question had just pilfered cotton candy from a child - literally - he'd just stolen sweets from a child and was looping back around with it in hand, along with some sort of oversized stuffed prize, a glass of nog, and an excessive amount of mistletoe littering his person. There was a downright manic gleam in his eyes, smile stretched beyond its natural limits by the lines of his clown paint.

"This is terrible for children's teeth, " he remarked to Lyon as he flung the cotton candy over his shoulder. "Are you thirsty? - who's this?" he finally asked, aknowledging the boy that his companion was speaking to with a somewhat curious glance.

Lyonsite couldn't help but let out a boom of a laugh. "Wait---you're here with your girlfriend but you're not with her?" She grinned. "Rather work on your studies, huh?" The lieutenant paused as she thought she heard, in the distance, the sound of a child wailing. Well, two guesses as to who caused that, and the first one didn't count.

"Yep!" She replied, "I'm with the kissing clown who's right---here." Lyonsite beamed down at Peni as he appeared, and she focused on her fellow lieutenant for a moment. "Oh yeah? Is that why you stole it? Didn't want to possibly clean those teeth in the future?" She asked, and her eyes lit up when he asked if she was thirsty. "Is that mug for me? Because I'll totally take it---this!" She extended a hand to Mason.

"This is an adorable overachiever who's here with his girlfriend, but spending time with his studies work book instead! What's your name, kid? I'm Lyonsite---" She jabbed a thumb at herself, "The kissing clown is Penikisite---" She jabbed her thumb at the man beside her. "Or we just go by Lyon and Peni, respectively."

Mason's face couldn't be anymore exasperated as the clown suddenly did join them, and in the distance he could hear a crying kid. Made him wonder what kind of adults they were. The mistletoe on the clown was even more scary but he couldn't help the comment that came out.

"All that mistletoe and you still couldn't get a kiss dude?" Mason adjusted his glasses again. "Mason." He sighed long and with a hint of suffering to it.

"Lyonsite and Penikisite are minerals." He crossed his arms and noticed that while the clown was a bit distracting, there was something menacing and dark about them. Added to that, they wore uniformed outfits, even if they were unconventionally uniformed.

"Codenames then." He rose a brow, "I'm not adorable." Only Nora called him that.

As he passed the nog off to Lyon, looking rather smug and pleased with himself, his gaze slowly shifted to Mason. His grin widened until there was a flash of gums at the edges, the kind of look in his eyes that was unreadable in the worst way. "Oh. I got plenty. Don't worry." He gave a razor edged howl of delight before settling more comfortably, deeply satisfied with his sick little joke.

"Mason like the jar - practical name for a practical boy, I'm presuming." And perceptive. He sure picked up on the codename thing fast, didn't he? - and he wasn't shrinking away, although he supposed that was in part because Lyon was a rather more warm, encouraging presence than anything.

Still. It did bring to mind the night he'd come across a wolf and his companion, and the birth of the clown from among them. "You could have a codename too, Mason. - it'd be a lot of fun."

Logically speaking, he doubted Mason would take them up on it - but wouldn't it just hilarious if he did? "Right, Lyon?"

Lyonsite's grin was radiant. "You're the best." She said to her fellow lieutenant was she took the mug and started to down it. The woman's tall frame shook lightly with her own amusement in response to Peni's, but she was silent as she knocked back the nog. Instead she listened to the two for a moment, eyeing the boy over the rim of the mug---right up until---

Wait.

Was Peni recruiting?

Lyonsite's head turned to the side as the woman ended up snorting out the mouthful of nog she had. It sprayed out before her, and luckily not on the young man or her partner. She turned back to face Mason, the liquid running down her nose and chin, but it did nothing to dampen the wide toothy grin she gave him.

"Right!"

When she had been brought in, that was the spiel she had been given. It was good to recruit. It was good to get potential members, and it was good to see they had what it took. The kid was sharp---he sussed out a lot about them really fast. He was driven, dedicated, as shown by the fact he was studying while at a carnival.

"We're apart of a team dubbed The Circus, and our team is apart of an even larger team that works on protecting what's right and what matters. You get a spiffy uniform---" Lyon reached with her free hand to pluck at some of Penikisite's shoulder tassels. "And you get some sweet power perks---plus a codename. You'd be a great fit---you're reading us pretty fast, and it takes some awesome dedication to study while at a carnival!"

If someone asked him what he was doing for his date night with Nora, he was pretty sure they wouldn't believe he had been approached by two adults in a...uniform thing...Okay call it like it is, A clown and a like untamed wild amazon with eggnog dripping from his nose. Anyways, he didn't think he could share this with friends.

He tapped the book, eyeing them both from the top of his glasses. Obviously he had made them, they weren't trying to hide here. And they approached him.
That meant he attracted attention earlier on, which he thought bitterly, was what he was trying to avoid.

The clown was ******** weird and something in Mason recognized that there was something 'wrong' about him. Not that he was in the creepy make up, but the gaze and the way the man held himself. It was jovially almost in the presence of the woman but...He felt there was something wrong with both of them too.

"I don't care about fun." Mason leaned back, "I'll make your sales pitch easier. I'm a student with a steady girlfriend. I get good grades and plan on becoming a CEO of a large corporation by attending the best business schools in Destiny City. What's your organization offer me that I haven't already set up for myself?"

Legs crossed and he waited, a half smirk on his face. "I don't really care about 'codenames.'"

Penikisite thrived off the knowledge that he did not have to remain composed, cool, collected - and he howled with laughter at the little display from Lyon, the roar of laughter ebbing away into snickers behind his hand, even as Mason started to speak. It almost gave the impression that he wasn't paying attention.

Until Mason stopped talking, at which point, something changed in Penikisite's eyes. Like a knife being ground against stone, sparks flying, suddenly too aware of its own potential to harm. "Isn't it obvious? - freedom. If you want to get practical about it, then connections that will only benefit your company, and your purpose will be as a whole much grander in scale - but as you've said, you have much of what you need already, and I should know as I'm much the same."

He tilted his head to a side, cracking his neck sharply, although it was nothing compared to when Lyon did it. "It's an outlet. It's excitement. It's a chance to do and be someone you aren't allowed to be in your day to day, and no one can judge you for it, penalize you for it. - or doesn't that sound appealing to you, Mason? Are you really a jar who's been so filled already?"

That boy made that rickety little wooden bench look like a throne as he sat upon it smugly.

Lyon couldn't help but cackle to herself, feeding off of Penikisite's howling laugh moments prior and just the kid in front of them. She was about to speak, but paused as the clown took it up instead, and she listened, pretty raptly at that. Hey. He was pretty good at this. Being compelling when he wore the face of the clown. Dare she say even---passionate. The woman wiped her nose and mouth with a palm as she listened, and another idea came to mind.

"Too bad we're just lieutenants right now, eh, Peni?" She asked, looking over the man to see if there was anyone coming. "Then we could show him teleporting. Business schools are cool and all buuut don't think any of those are going to give him that!" Oh! There---

A group of people walked by, and with a bit of dexterity that belied her large frame (and it helped they were staring at Peni on the way by) Lyonsite lightly ghosted her fingers over the shoulder of the closest one. She came back with a small pearl of energy, and she showed it to Mason with a grin.

"It's the dude's energy." She said. "Peni's right though---it is an outlet, and it's more than what you are right now. It's also a network, with connections to resources and people you wouldn't get if you weren't apart of it---because we're not just talking about the city, little man, we're talking about the all across the planet."

The crack at the mason jar joke made his eyes narrow. The challenge was accepted. He wasn't a jar that was already filled, but jar that would overfill and drown out the world.

The idea of teleporting though, caught his attention and he realized that there was a magical aspect to this life. They were offering him a sped up version of his life plan, but add a pinch of magic. Plus the two were weird and zany, so that was fun in it's own right. Nora was fun and Zany too, so maybe that's why he accepted the two easier.

If whoever they worked for had connections across the world...

"Okay." Starr uncrossed his legs and leaned forward. "So what do I have to do?"
